RESUMEN

A method is presented for simultaneously inferring both the refractive index and the size of a particle with extended interferometric particle imaging technique. The optical system of extended IPI with opposite two-sheet illumination at dual scattering angles is laid out for the experiment. The size of a particle is evaluated by the interference fringe recorded at the scattering angle of 90°, which is from the two reflected lights with two counter-propagating sheet illuminations. And then the refractive index is calculated by the fringe pattern recorded in the side scattering angle region with one of two-sheet illumination when combined with droplet size determined. Experiments on the polystyrene microsphere and water droplet suggest that the method presented herein is promising for many relevant applications, such as fuel combustion and environmental monitoring, in accurately measuring both the particle size and its refractive index.

RESUMEN

Tumor growth and metastasis are responsible for breast cancer-related mortality. Andrographolide (Andro) is a traditional anti-inflammatory drug used in the clinic that inhibits NF-κB activation. Recently, Andro has been found in the treatment of various cancers. Andro inhibits breast cell proliferation and invasion and induces apoptosis via activating various signaling pathways. Therefore, the underlying mechanisms with regard to the antitumor effects of Andro still need to be further confirmed. Herein, a MMTV-PyMT spontaneous luminal-like breast cancer lung metastatic transgenic tumor model was employed to estimate the antitumor effects of Andro on breast cancer in vivo. Andro significantly inhibited tumor growth and metastasis in MMTV-PyMT mice and suppressed the cell proliferation, migration, and invasion of MCF-7 breast cancer cells in vitro. Meanwhile, Andro significantly inhibited the expression of NF-κB, and the downregulated NF-κB reduced miR-21-5p expression. In addition, miR-21-5p dramatically inhibited the target gene expression of programmed cell death protein 4 (PDCD4). In the current study, we demonstrated the potential anticancer effects of Andro on luminal-like breast cancer and indicated that Andro inhibits the expression of miR-21-5p and further promotes PDCD4 via NF-κB suppression. Therefore, Andro could be an antitumor agent for the treatment of luminal-like breast cancer in the clinic.

RESUMEN

Augmented renal clearance(ARC)can be caused by the disease itself, inflammatory state,or therapeutic interventions, and is often associated with severe infections and trauma.Sepsis is one of the most important diseases with high morbidity and mortality in the world.Current studies suggest that ARC is significantly associated with inadequate antimicrobial therapy concentration in patients with sepsis, increasing the risk of clinical treatment failure. It is important to optimize the drug administration strategy for patients with ARC in sepsis, although the current clinical screening of ARC is not yet perfect. This review summarized the literature on changes in blood concentration of antibiotics and administration strategies in patients with sepsis with ARC,in order to provide appropriate medication and clinical guidance for ARC patients.

RESUMEN

ObjectiveTo assess the repeatability (intra-operator variability) and reproducibility (inter-operator variability) of a new partial coherence interferometry (PCI)-based ocular biometer, Myopia Master, and its agreement with IOL Master 500 for measuring axial length (AL) and corneal curvature (K) in children aged 8-12 years. MethodsThe same operator measured school children with the Myopia Master and the IOL Master 500 in random order to assess agreement. Additionally, some of these children received measurements from another operator using the Myopia Master to assess repeatability and reproducibility. AL, flat keratometry (Kf), steep keratometry (Ks), mean keratometry (Km), J0 and J45 were analyzed. The repeatability and reproducibility were assessed by the within-subject standard deviation (Sw), test-retest repeatability (TRT), coefficient of variation (CoV) and intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC). The agreement between the Myopia Master and the IOL Master 500 was assessed by Bland-Altman plots and 95% limits of agreement (LoA). ResultsBoth repeatability and reproducibility of the Myopia Master were high for AL measurements (Sw=0.02 mm, ICC=0.999; Sw=0.04 mm, ICC=0.998), but moderate for K measurements (Sw range, 0.04 to 0.12 D, ICC range, 0.861 to 0.991; Sw range, 0.06 to 0.20 D, ICC range, 0.835 to 0.992). There were significant mean differences between the Myopia Master and the IOL Master 500 in measurements of AL (-0.01±0.04) mm, Kf (-0.09 ± 0.15) D, Ks (-0.47±0.40) D, and Km (-0.28±0.23) D, J0 (0.18±0.20) D and J45 (-0.01±0.12) D. ConclusionsThe Myopia Master provided high repeatability and reproducibility for AL measurements in schoolchildren with myopia, but the Myopia Master and the IOL Master 500 cannot be used interchangeably in measuring AL and K.

RESUMEN

Fusobacterium nucleatum (F. nucleatum) is an early pathogenic colonizer in periodontitis, but the host response to infection with this pathogen remains unclear. In this study, we built an F. nucleatum infectious model with human periodontal ligament stem cells (PDLSCs) and showed that F. nucleatum could inhibit proliferation, and facilitate apoptosis, ferroptosis, and inflammatory cytokine production in a dose-dependent manner. The F. nucleatum adhesin FadA acted as a proinflammatory virulence factor and increased the expression of interleukin(IL)-1β, IL-6 and IL-8. Further study showed that FadA could bind with PEBP1 to activate the Raf1-MAPK and IKK-NF-κB signaling pathways. Time-course RNA-sequencing analyses showed the cascade of gene activation process in PDLSCs with increasing durations of F. nucleatum infection. NFκB1 and NFκB2 upregulated after 3 h of F. nucleatum-infection, and the inflammatory-related genes in the NF-κB signaling pathway were serially elevated with time. Using computational drug repositioning analysis, we predicted and validated that two potential drugs (piperlongumine and fisetin) could attenuate the negative effects of F. nucleatum-infection. Collectively, this study unveils the potential pathogenic mechanisms of F. nucleatum and the host inflammatory response at the early stage of F. nucleatum infection.

RESUMEN

ObjectiveTo investigate the late detection of HIV/AIDS cases in the elderly in Jilin Province and analyze its influencing factors, to provide theoretical basis for improving their life quality. MethodsThe first CD4 values of HIV/AIDS patients aged 50 years and above living in Jilin Province were used to estimate late detection, and the influencing factors of late detection in elderly cases were analyzed. ResultsThe average CD4 cell count of newly reported HIV/AIDS cases aged 50 and above in Jilin Province from 1996 to 2021 was (230.55±191.97), the low value group accounted for the largest proportion (50.8%), and the late detection rate was 59.3% (1397/2325). The late detection cases were mainly from sexual transmission (46.8% for same-sex and 48.2% for heterosexual contact). From the perspective of sample sources, most of the late detection patients were diagnosed while testing for other illnesses, followed by testing and consulting. In terms of contact history, the late detection of cases of men who have sex with men was higher. The binary logistic regression analysis showed that gender, marriage, sample source and report year were the factors affecting the late detection of AIDS. The late detection rate of males was higher, and cases of married couples were more likely to be late detection. With the increase of report year, the late detection rate decreased, and testing and counseling could effectively reduce the late detection rate of AIDS. ConclusionThe CD4 cell count in the first detection of HIV/AIDS in the elderly in Jilin Province is low, and the late detection rate of male cases is high. In recent years, the expansion of voluntary counseling and testing in Jilin Province has effectively reduced the late detection rate of HIV/AIDS. At the same time, sex education should be strengthened for the elderly, healthy marital relationships should be advocated and more attention should be paid to the mental health of the elderly.

RESUMEN

@#Objective To systematically review the clinical effect of music therapy in patients with insomnia. Methods PubMed,Web of Science,Embase,CBM,CNKI,Wanfang Data, and VIP were searched for related articles published up to December 3 2021,and literature screening and data extraction were performed strictly according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. RevMan 5.3 and Stata 16.0 were used for data analysis and evaluation. Results A total of 20 randomized controlled trial articles were included, with 1378 patients in total, among whom there were 704 patients in the experimental group and 703 patients in the control group. The meta-analysis showed that music therapy effectively improved the symptoms of patients with insomnia, with significant differences in clinical response rate (risk ratio=1.66,95% confidence interval [CI]:1.35-2.05,P<0.001),PSQI score (weighted mean difference [WMD]=-1.10,95%CI -1.57 to-0.63,P<0.001),and ISI score (WMD=-0.30,95%CI -0.76 to -0.15,P=0.19). Conclusion Music therapy has obvious advantages and therapeutic significance in the clinical observation of patients with insomnia. Clinical response rate and PSQI score are mainly selected as outcome measures in most articles, and therefore, more sleep indicators can be used for outcome observation.
