RESUMEN

Radiation therapy (RT) continues to play an important role in the treatment of cancer. Adaptive RT (ART) is a novel method through which RT treatments are evolving. With the ART approach, computed tomography or magnetic resonance (MR) images are obtained as part of the treatment delivery process. This enables the adaptation of the irradiated volume to account for changes in organ and/or tumor position, movement, size, or shape that may occur over the course of treatment. The advantages and challenges of ART maybe somewhat abstract to oncologists and clinicians outside of the specialty of radiation oncology. ART is positioned to affect many different types of cancer. There is a wide spectrum of hypothesized benefits, from small toxicity improvements to meaningful gains in overall survival. The use and application of this novel technology should be understood by the oncologic community at large, such that it can be appropriately contextualized within the landscape of cancer therapies. Likewise, the need to test these advances is pressing. MR-guided ART (MRgART) is an emerging, extended modality of ART that expands upon and further advances the capabilities of ART. MRgART presents unique opportunities to iteratively improve adaptive image guidance. However, although the MRgART adaptive process advances ART to previously unattained levels, it can be more expensive, time-consuming, and complex. In this review, the authors present an overview for clinicians describing the process of ART and specifically MRgART.

The ovarian microenvironment plays a crucial role in ensuring the reproductive success of viviparous teleosts. However, the molecular mechanism underlying the interaction between spermatozoa and the ovarian microenvironment has remained elusive. This study aimed to contribute to a better understanding of this process in black rockfish (Sebastes schlegelii) using integrated multi-omics approaches. The results demonstrated significant upregulation of ovarian complement-related proteins and pattern recognition receptors, along with remodeling of glycans on the surface of spermatozoa at the early spermatozoa-storage stage (1 month after mating). As spermatozoa were stored over time, ovarian complement proteins were progressively repressed by tryptophan and hippurate, indicating a remarkable adaptation of spermatozoa to the ovarian microenvironment. Before fertilization, a notable upregulation of cellular junction proteins was observed. The study revealed that spermatozoa bind to ZPB2a protein through GSTM3 and that ZPB2a promotes spermatozoa survival and movement in a GSTM3-dependent manner. These findings shed light on a key mechanism that influences the dynamics of spermatozoa in the female reproductive tract, providing valuable insights into the molecular networks regulating spermatozoa adaptation and survival in species with internal fertilization.

While significant strides have been made in predicting neoepitopes that trigger autologous CD4+ T cell responses, accurately identifying the antigen presentation by human leukocyte antigen (HLA) class II molecules remains a challenge. This identification is critical for developing vaccines and cancer immunotherapies. Current prediction methods are limited, primarily due to a lack of high-quality training epitope datasets and algorithmic constraints. To predict the exogenous HLA class II-restricted peptides across most of the human population, we utilized the mass spectrometry data to profile >223 000 eluted ligands over HLA-DR, -DQ, and -DP alleles. Here, by integrating these data with peptide processing and gene expression, we introduce HLAIImaster, an attention-based deep learning framework with adaptive domain knowledge for predicting neoepitope immunogenicity. Leveraging diverse biological characteristics and our enhanced deep learning framework, HLAIImaster is significantly improved against existing tools in terms of positive predictive value across various neoantigen studies. Robust domain knowledge learning accurately identifies neoepitope immunogenicity, bridging the gap between neoantigen biology and the clinical setting and paving the way for future neoantigen-based therapies to provide greater clinical benefit. In summary, we present a comprehensive exploitation of the immunogenic neoepitope repertoire of cancers, facilitating the effective development of "just-in-time" personalized vaccines.

Following invasion, insects can become adapted to conditions experienced in their invasive range, but there are few studies on the speed of adaptation and its genomic basis. Here, we examine a small insect pest, Thrips palmi, following its contemporary range expansion across a sharp climate gradient from the subtropics to temperate areas. We first found a geographically associated population genetic structure and inferred a stepping-stone dispersal pattern in this pest from the open fields of southern China to greenhouse environments of northern regions, with limited gene flow after colonization. In common garden experiments, both the field and greenhouse groups exhibited clinal patterns in thermal tolerance as measured by critical thermal maximum (CTmax) closely linked with latitude and temperature variables. A selection experiment reinforced the evolutionary potential of CTmax with an estimated h2 of 6.8% for the trait. We identified 3 inversions in the genome that were closely associated with CTmax, accounting for 49.9%, 19.6%, and 8.6% of the variance in CTmax among populations. Other genomic variations in CTmax outside the inversion region were specific to certain populations but functionally conserved. These findings highlight rapid adaptation to CTmax in both open field and greenhouse populations and reiterate the importance of inversions behaving as large-effect alleles in climate adaptation.

The dynamic structure and composition of lipid membranes need to be tightly regulated to control the vast array of cellular processes from cell and organelle morphology to protein-protein interactions and signal transduction pathways. To maintain membrane integrity, sense-and-response systems monitor and adjust membrane lipid composition to the ever-changing cellular environment, but only a relatively small number of control systems have been described. Here, we explore the emerging role of the ubiquitin-proteasome system in monitoring and maintaining membrane lipid composition. We focus on the ER-resident RNF145 E3 ubiquitin ligase, its role in regulating adiponectin receptor 2 (ADIPOR2), its lipid hydrolase substrate, and the broader implications for understanding the homeostatic processes that fine-tune cellular membrane composition.

Primary mitochondrial diseases (PMDs) are a heterogeneous group of metabolic disorders that can be caused by hundreds of mutations in both mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and nuclear DNA (nDNA) genes. Current therapeutic approaches are limited, although one approach has been exercise training. Endurance exercise is known to improve mitochondrial function in heathy subjects and reduce risk for secondary metabolic disorders such as diabetes or neurodegenerative disorders. However, in PMDs the benefit of endurance exercise is unclear, and exercise might be beneficial for some mitochondrial disorders but contraindicated in others. Here we investigate the effect of an endurance exercise regimen in mouse models for PMDs harboring distinct mitochondrial mutations. We show that while an mtDNA ND6 mutation in complex I demonstrated improvement in response to exercise, mice with a CO1 mutation affecting complex IV showed significantly fewer positive effects, and mice with an ND5 complex I mutation did not respond to exercise at all. For mice deficient in the nDNA adenine nucleotide translocase 1 (Ant1), endurance exercise actually worsened the dilated cardiomyopathy. Correlating the gene expression profile of skeletal muscle and heart with the physiologic exercise response identified oxidative phosphorylation, amino acid metabolism, matrisome (extracellular matrix [ECM]) structure, and cell cycle regulation as key pathways in the exercise response. This emphasizes the crucial role of mitochondria in determining the exercise capacity and exercise response. Consequently, the benefit of endurance exercise in PMDs strongly depends on the underlying mutation, although our results suggest a general beneficial effect.

In Australia, bortezomib-based induction (V-IND) is used in >90% of newly diagnosed transplant-eligible multiple myeloma (MM) patients. Four cycles of V-IND with bortezomib-cyclophosphamide-dexamethasone or bortezomib-lenalidomide-dexamethasone are available via the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme prior to autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT). Patients who demonstrate suboptimal response or who are refractory to V-IND demonstrate inferior survival, representing a subgroup of MM where an unmet need persists. We evaluated an early, response-adapted approach in these patients by switching to an intensive sequential therapeutic strategy incorporating daratumumab-lenalidomide-dexamethasone-based (DRd) salvage, high-dose melphalan ASCT followed by DRd consolidation and R maintenance. The overall response rate following four cycles of DRd salvage was 72% (95% credible interval: 57.9-82.4); prespecified, dual, Bayesian proof-of-concept criteria were met. Euro-flow minimal residual disease (MRD) negativity was 46% in the intention-to-treat population and 79% in the evaluable population following 12 cycles of DRd consolidation. At the 24-month follow-up, median progression-free survival and overall survival were not reached. DRd salvage was well tolerated with grade 3 and 4 events reported in 24% and 8% respectively. Response-adapted DRd combined with ASCT achieves high rates of MRD negativity and durable disease control in this functional high-risk group.

Nanocontainers that can sense and respond to environmental stimuli like cells are desirable for next-generation delivery systems. However, it is still a grand challenge for synthetic nanocontainers to mimic or even surpass the shape adaption of cells, which may produce novel compartments for cargo loading. Here, this work reports the engineering of compartment network with a single polymer vesicle by unraveling osmotic stress-dependent deformation. Specifically, by manipulating the way in exerting the stress, sudden increase or gradual increase, polymer vesicles can either undergo deflation into the stomatocyte, a bowl-shaped vesicle enclosing a new compartment, or tubulation into the tubule of varied length. Such stress-dependent deformation inspired us to program the shape transformation of polymer vesicles, including tubulation, deflation, or first tubulation and then deflation. The coupled deformation successfully transforms the polymer vesicle into the stomatocyte with tubular arms and a network of two or three small stomatocytes connected by tubules. To the author's knowledge, these morphologies are still not accessed by synthetic nanocontainers. This work envisions that the network of stomatocytes may enable the loading of different catalysts to construct novel motile systems, and the well-defined morphology of vesicles helps to define the effect of morphology on cellar uptake.

Parenteral nutrition (PN)-induced villus atrophy is a major cause of intestinal failure (IF) for children suffering from short bowel syndrome (SBS), but the precise mechanism remains unclear. Herein, we report a pivotal role of farnesoid X receptor (FXR) signaling and fatty acid oxidation (FAO) in PN-induced villus atrophy. A total of 14 pediatric SBS patients receiving PN were enrolled in this study. Those patients with IF showed longer PN duration and significant intestinal villus atrophy, characterized by remarkably increased enterocyte apoptosis concomitant with impaired FXR signaling and decreased FAO genes including carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1a (CPT1a). Likewise, similar changes were found in an in vivo model of neonatal Bama piglets receiving 14-day PN, including villus atrophy and particularly disturbed FAO process responding to impaired FXR signaling. Finally, in order to consolidate the role of the FXR-CPT1a axis in modulating enterocyte apoptosis, patient-derived organoids (PDOs) were used as a mini-gut model in vitro. Consequently, pharmacological inhibition of FXR by tauro-ß-muricholic acid (T-ßMCA) evidently suppressed CPT1a expression leading to reduced mitochondrial FAO function and inducible apoptosis. In conclusion, impaired FXR/CPT1a axis and disturbed FAO may play a pivotal role in PN-induced villus atrophy, contributing to intestinal failure in SBS patients.

BACKGROUND: The contribution of gut microbiota to human high-altitude adaptation remains inadequately understood. METHODS: Here a comparative analysis of gut microbiota was conducted between healthy individuals living at sea level and high altitude using deep whole-metagenome shotgun sequencing, to investigate the adaptive mechanisms of gut microbiota in plateau inhabitants. RESULTS: The results showed the gut bacteriomes in high-altitude individuals exhibited greater within-sample diversity and significant alterations in both bacterial compositional and functional profiles when compared to those of sea-level individuals, indicating the potential selection of unique bacteria associated with high-altitude environments. The strain-level investigation revealed enrichment of Collinsella aerofaciens and Akkermansia muciniphila in high-altitude populations. The characteristics of gut virome and gut mycobiome were also investigated. Compared to sea-level subjects, high-altitude subjects exhibited a greater diversity in their gut virome, with an increased number of viral operational taxonomic units (vOTUs) and unique annotated genes. Finally, correlation analyses revealed 819 significant correlations between 42 bacterial species and 375 vOTUs, while no significant correlations were observed between bacteria and fungi or between fungi and viruses. CONCLUSION: The findings have significantly contributed to an enhanced comprehension of the mechanisms underlying the high-altitude geographic adaptation of the human gut microbiota.

The Yarkand hare (Lepus yarkandensis) inhabits arid desert areas and is endemic to China. It has evolved various adaptations to survive in hot arid environments, including stress responses, the ability to maintain water homeostasis and heat tolerance. Here, we performed a selective sweep analysis to identify the candidate genes for adaptation to hot arid environments in the Yarkand hare. A total of 397 237 single-nucleotide polymorphisms were obtained from 80 Yarkand hares, which inhabit hot arid environments, and 36 Tolai hares (Lepus tolai), which inhabit environments with a mild climate, via specific-locus amplified fragment sequencing. We identified several candidate genes that were associated with the heat stress response (HSPE1), oxidative stress response (SLC23A and GLRX2), immune response (IL1R1 and IRG1), central nervous system development (FGF13, THOC2, FMR1 and MECP2) and regulation of water homeostasis (CDK1) according to fixation index values and θπ ratios in the selective sweep analysis, and six of these genes (GLRX2, IRG1, FGF13, FMR1, MECP2 and CDK1) are newly discovered genes. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to identify candidate genes for adaptation to hot arid environments in the Yarkand hare. The results of this study enhance our understanding of the adaptation of the Yarkand hare to hot arid environments and will aid future studies aiming to functionally verify these candidate genes.

INTRODUCTION: Physical activity (PA) is believed to play an important part in many aspects during childhood and adolescence, especially cardiorespiratory fitness and cardiometabolic health. However, whether different levels of PA in daily life influence the structure or function of heart in school-aged children remains unknown. We aimed to investigate the association between PA and cardiovascular parameters in 7-year-old children. METHODS: Follow-up data from the Shanghai Prenatal Cohort Study and the Shanghai Birth Cohort was analyzed. Perinatal information including both maternal and offspring datum was recorded. A refined questionnaire was used to evaluate the frequency and duration of children's PA levels. Blood pressure, echocardiography, and anthropometry assessment were conducted during the follow-up of 7-year-old children. RESULTS: Overall, high PA level was associated with higher left ventricle posterior wall thickness in diastole (LVPWd, ß coefficient: 0.36, 95% CI: 0.12, 0.61), higher left ventricle mass index (LVMI, ß = 0.28, 95% CI: 0.07, 0.48), mitral E/a ratio (ß = 0.47, 95% CI: 0.22, 0.71) and slower heart rate (ß = -0.32, 95% CI: -0.57, -0.07), compared to low PA level. Medium PA level was associated with lower diastolic blood pressure (DBP, ß = -0.18, 95% CI: -0.35, -0.01). In subgroup analysis, increased relative wall thickness (RWT) was found in high PA level boys (ß = 0.36, 95% CI: 0.05, 0.67), and systolic blood pressure (SBP) showed a significant decrease in high PA level girls (ß = -0.42, 95% CI: -0.78, -0.06). CONCLUSIONS: This study suggested non-athlete children having higher PA level were associated with thicker left ventricle (LV) walls and better LV diastolic function, as well as slower heart rate and DBP at the age of 7. Furthermore, disparity in the association between PA level with morphological heart patterns and blood pressure existed in different sex category.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic control strategies disrupted the smooth delivery of essential health services (EHS) globally. Limited evidence exists on the health systems lens approach to analyzing the challenges encountered in maintaining EHS during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aimed to identify the health system challenges encountered and document the mitigation strategies and adaptations made across geopolitical zones (GPZs) in Nigeria. METHODS: The national qualitative survey of key actors across the six GPZs in Nigeria involved ten states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) which were selected based on resilience, COVID-19 burden and security considerations. A pre-tested key informant guide was used to collect data on service utilization, changes in service utilization, reasons for changes in primary health centres' (PHCs) service volumes, challenges experienced by health facilities in maintaining EHS, mitigation strategies implemented and adaptations to service delivery. Emerging sub-themes were categorized under the appropriate pillars of the health system. RESULTS: A total of 22 respondents were interviewed. The challenges experienced in maintaining EHS cut across the pillars of the health systems including: Human resources shortage, shortages in the supply of personal protective equipments, fear of contracting COVID-19 among health workers misconception, ignorance, socio-cultural issues, lockdown/transportation and lack of equipment/waiting area (. The mitigation strategies included improved political will to fund health service projects, leading to improved accessibility, affordability, and supply of consumables. The health workforce was motivated by employing, redeploying, training, and incentivizing. Service delivery was reorganized by rescheduling appointments and prioritizing some EHS such as maternal and childcare. Sustainable systems adaptations included IPC and telehealth infrastructure, training and capacity building, virtual meetings and community groups set up for sensitization and engagement. CONCLUSION: The mitigation strategies and adaptations implemented were important contributors to EHS recovery especially in the high resilience LGAs and have implications for future epidemic preparedness plans.

Customized voluntary waiting period (VWP) before first insemination was tested in 18 commercial dairy herds in Sweden, to assess milk production, fertility and health in primiparous cows expected to be suited for extended VWP. Cow selection for extended VWP was based on 3 criteria in early lactation: 1) the 10% of cows with highest genomic persistency index, 2) cows with a difficult calving or disease during the first month of lactation, and 3) cows with higher yield during d 4-33 after calving than the herd average for primiparous cows. Cows meeting at least one of these criteria were randomly assigned to either the ExtExt treatment (extended VWP of at least 175 d, n = 174; calving interval (CInt) = 16.3 mo) or the ExtConv treatment (conventional VWP of maximum 100 d n = 173; CInt = 12.4 mo). Cows not meeting any of the criteria were assigned to the ConvConv treatment (conventional VWP, n = 183; CInt = 12.0 mo). There were no differences in milk yield per day in the CInt between treatments, although 305-d and whole-lactation (WL) milk yields were higher for ExtExt cows (10,371 and 13,803 kg) than ExtConv cows (9,812 and 10,257 kg). Milk yield at the last test milking before dry-off was lower in ExtExt compared with ExtConv cows (24.9 vs 28.3), however the results showed no difference in dry period length between the treatments. Regarding reproductive performance, the ExtExt cows had higher first service conception rate (FSCR; 60% vs. 45%) and lower number of inseminations per conception (NINS; 1.67 vs. 2.19), compared with the ExtConv cows. As expected, ConvConv cows had the lowest milk yield in 305-d, in WL, and per day in the CInt, however, FSCR and NINS did not differ between ConvConv cows and cows in the other 2 VWP treatments. Disease incidence was higher for cows in the ExtConv compared with the ConvConv treatment, but there was no difference between ExtExt and the 2 other VWP treatments. Further, no difference in proportion of cows with good udder health or culling rate was detected between any of the treatments, though due to low prevalence the study lacked power to draw major conclusions on these results. Thus prolonging VWP for suitable primiparous cows can produce benefits such as improved fertility in the form of higher FSCR and lower NINS, as well as lower dry-off yield, without compromising milk yield or prolonging dry period length.

The insect cuticle consists of chitin and cuticular proteins (CPs), which stabilize the body shape and provide an effective physical barrier against the external environment. They are also potential target sites for developing environmentally friendly insect management through the utilization of physiology-based methods. The codling moth, Cydia pomonella, is a pest afflicting fruit orchards worldwide. This study used a comparative genomic approach, whole-genome resequencing, and transcriptome data to understand the role that CPs played in the environmental adaptation of the codling moth. A total of 182 putative CPs were identified in the codling moth genome, which were classified into 12 CP families. 119 CPR genes, including 54 RR-1, 60 RR-2, and 5 RR-3 genes were identified and accounted for 65.4% of the total CPs. Eight and seven gene clusters are formed in RR1 and RR2 subfamily and the ancestor-descendant relationship was explained. Five CPAP genes were highly expressed during the egg stage and exposed to high temperature, which indicated their potential role in aiding codling moth eggs in acclimating to varying external heat conditions. Moreover, six CPs belonging to the CPR and CPLCP families were identified in association with insecticide resistance by population resequencing. Their expression levels increased after exposure to insecticides, suggesting they might be involved in codling moth resistance to the insecticides azinphos-methyl or deltamethrin. Our results provide insight into the evolution of codling moth CPs and their association with high temperature adaptation and insecticide resistance, and provide an additional information required for further analysis of CPs in environmental adaptation.

Based on cross-country data from 2002 to 2019, we explore the impact of climate change risk (CCR) on energy poverty (EP), and the moderating role in the CCR-EP nexus is also discussed. The empirical results suggest that CCR can exacerbate EP, especially for rural areas. Moderating effect analysis shows that financial development, technological innovation, and adaptation readiness can modify the negative impacts of CCR on EP to some extent. Moreover, the impact of CCR on EP is heterogeneous, demonstrating that CCR is more likely to exacerbate EP in countries with low economic development, low economic freedom, high carbon intensity, and the Africa region. Our findings emphasize the challenge of balancing EP alleviation with climate change response and provide the policy guidance to promote coordinated development of CCR management and energy supply security.

To satisfy the preference of each driver, the development of a Lane-Keeping Assistance (LKA) system that can adapt to individual drivers has become a research hotspot in recent years. However, existing studies have mostly relied on the assumption that the LKA characteristic aligned with the driver's preference is consistent with this driver's naturalistic driving characteristic. Nevertheless, this assumption may not always hold true, causing limitations to the effectiveness of this method. This paper proposes a novel method for a Driver-Adaptive Lane-Keeping Assistance (DALKA) system based on drivers' real preferences. First, metrics are extracted from collected naturalistic driving data using action point theory to describe drivers' naturalistic driving characteristics. Then, the subjective and objective evaluation method is introduced to obtain the real preference of each test driver for the LKA system. Finally, machine learning methods are employed to train a model that relates naturalistic driving characteristics to the drivers' real preferences, and the model-predicted preferences are integrated into the DALKA system. The developed DALKA system is then subjectively evaluated by the drivers. The results show that our DALKA system, developed using this method, can enhance or maintain the subjective evaluations of the LKA system for most drivers.

Transfer RNA (tRNA) modifications are essential for the temperature adaptation of thermophilic and psychrophilic organisms as they control the rigidity and flexibility of transcripts. To further understand how specific tRNA modifications are adjusted to maintain functionality in response to temperature fluctuations, we investigated whether tRNA modifications represent an adaptation of bacteria to different growth temperatures (minimal, optimal, and maximal), focusing on closely related psychrophilic (P. halocryophilus and E. sibiricum), mesophilic (B. subtilis), and thermophilic (G. stearothermophilus) Bacillales. Utilizing an RNA sequencing approach combined with chemical pre-treatment of tRNA samples, we systematically profiled dihydrouridine (D), 4-thiouridine (s4U), 7-methyl-guanosine (m7G), and pseudouridine (Ψ) modifications at single-nucleotide resolution. Despite their close relationship, each bacterium exhibited a unique tRNA modification profile. Our findings revealed increased tRNA modifications in the thermophilic bacterium at its optimal growth temperature, particularly showing elevated levels of s4U8 and Ψ55 modifications compared to non-thermophilic bacteria, indicating a temperature-dependent regulation that may contribute to thermotolerance. Furthermore, we observed higher levels of D modifications in psychrophilic and mesophilic bacteria, indicating an adaptive strategy for cold environments by enhancing local flexibility in tRNAs. Our method demonstrated high effectiveness in identifying tRNA modifications compared to an established tool, highlighting its potential for precise tRNA profiling studies.

Droughts are the most expensive climate disasters as they leave long-term and chronic impacts on the ecosystem, agriculture, and human society. The intensity, frequency, and duration of drought events have increased over the years and are expected to worsen in the future on a regional and planetary/global scale. Nature-based solutions (NBS) such as wetland and floodplain restorations, green infrastructures, rainwater harvesting, etc., are highlighted as effective solutions to cope with the future impacts of these events. While the role of NBS in coping with the impacts of other disasters, such as floods, has been extensively studied, there has been a lack of comprehensive review of NBS targeting drought. The following paper provides a unique critical state-of-the-art literature review of individual drought-related NBS around the world, in Europe, and particularly in Belgium, and assesses the critical differences between the NBS applied globally and in Flanders. An extensive literature review was conducted to systematically analyze NBS, listing the type, the location, the status of the implementation, and the possible recommendations proposed to optimize future NBS applications. Finally, a comparison is made between small- and large-scale applications of NBS. By analyzing all these aspects, especially the level of effectiveness and recommendations, insight was gained into the future potential of NBS and possible improvements. The research indicated a lack of scientific publications, especially in Belgium. Hence, grey literature was also included in the literature review. Only four papers included a quantitative assessment regarding the effectiveness of drought on a global level, all stating a positive impact on groundwater recharge. In contrast, at regional and country levels, the performance of NBS was not quantified. The number of large-scale implementations is low, where landscape- or watershed-scale holistic approaches to drought mitigation are still scarce. Some successfully implemented projects are only very local and have a long realization time, two aspects that limit achieving visible impact at a larger scale. Among the many NBS, wetlands are recognized as highly effective in coping with drought but are still degraded or lost despite their significant restoration potential. A common effectiveness evaluation framework shall be followed, which gives policymakers a clear view of the different NBS investment options. Furthermore, a more collaborative approach is recommended globally, including different stakeholder groups, with specific attention to the local communities. To conclude, future research should increase the evidence base and implementation of drought-mitigating NBS.

Employees often work in dynamic environments requiring adaptive performance (e.g., emergencies, clients from other cultures). To optimize change management, employee training, and personnel selection in organizations, researchers have focused on trait-like predictors of adaption to change, such as personality traits or cognitive ability. The study (N = 300) shifts the focus to more proximal performance predictors - change communication and task-related state motivation. Adaptive performance was modeled using latent growth models. Providing two change-related hints, one at the beginning of the task and another directly after the change, mitigated performance impairment observed directly after the change. Moreover, this advantage largely persisted throughout the later stages of the task. In contrast, a single hint at the beginning of the task did not substantially facilitate adaption. Finally, task-related state motivation was linked to better performance on the subsequent measurement occasion. Organizations might minimize change-induced losses by deploying adequate change communication and maintaining employee motivation.
