CD40L-CD40-TRAF signaling plays a role in atherosclerosis progression and affects the pathogenesis of coronary heart disease (CHD). We tested the hypothesis that CD40L-CD40-TRAF signaling is a potential therapeutic target in hyperlipidemia, diabetes, and hypertension. In mouse models of hyperlipidemia plus diabetes (db/db mice) or hypertension (1 mg/kg/d angiotensin-II for 7 days), TRAF6 inhibitor treatment (2.5 mg/kg/d for 7 or 14 days) normalized markers of oxidative stress and inflammation. As diabetes and hypertension are important comorbidities aggravating CHD, we explored whether the CD40L-CD40-TRAF signaling cascade and their associated inflammatory pathways are expressed in CHD patients suffering from comorbidities. Therefore, we analyzed vascular bypass material (aorta or internal mammary artery) and plasma from patients with CHD with diabetes and/or hypertension. Our Olink targeted plasma proteomic analysis using the IMMUNO-ONCOLOGY panel revealed a pattern of step-wise increase for 13/92 markers of low-grade inflammation with significant changes. CD40L or CD40 significantly correlated with 38 or 56 other inflammatory targets. In addition, specific gene clusters that correlate with the comorbidities were identified in isolated aortic mRNA of CHD patients through RNA-sequencing. These signaling clusters comprised CD40L-CD40-TRAF, immune system, hemostasis, muscle contraction, metabolism of lipids, developmental biology, and apoptosis. Finally, immunological analysis revealed key markers correlated with comorbidities in CHD patients, such as CD40L, NOX2, CD68, and 3-nitrotyrosine. These data indicate that comorbidities increase inflammatory pathways in CHD, and targeting these pathways will be beneficial in reducing cardiovascular events in CHD patients with comorbidities.

Drugs that can treat one disease may either be detrimental or beneficial toward another due to possible cross-interactions. Therefore, care in choosing a suitable drug for patients with multiple diseases is crucial in successful patient management. This study explores several currently available ophthalmic drugs used to treat common ocular diseases to understand how they can affect the amyloidogenesis of a transforming growth factor ß-induced protein (TGFBIp) peptide fragment found in abundance in the corneal protein aggregation deposits of lattice corneal dystrophy (LCD) patients. Results from this study provided supporting evidence that some drugs intended to treat other diseases can enhance or inhibit fibrillar aggregation of TGFBIp peptide, which may have potential implication of affecting the disease progression of LCD by either worsening or ameliorating it. Comparisons of the different properties of ophthalmic compounds explored in this study may also provide some guidance for future design of drugs geared toward the treatment of LCD.

Liquid crystal monomers (LCMs) are biphenyl- or cyclohexane-based organic chemicals used in electronic digital displays, and several of them possess bioaccumulative and toxic properties. Little is known about their occurrence in indoor dust from the United States. We analyzed 60 LCMs in 104 residential indoor dust samples collected from 16 states across the United States. Forty-seven of 60 LCMs were detected in dust samples at a median ∑LCM concentration of 402 ng/g (range: not detected to 4300 ng/g). Trans-4-propylcyclohexyl trans,trans-4'-propylbicyclohexyl-4-carboxylate (MPVBC) and (trans,trans)-4-fluorophenyl 4'-pentyl-[1,1'-bi(cyclohexane)]-4-carboxylate (FPeBC) were frequently detected in dust samples. We investigated potential sources of LCMs in dust by determining concentrations and profiles of these chemicals in smartphone screens, desktop and laptop computer monitors, and displays of other electronic devices and found that profiles in smartphones matched closely with those found in dust. The calculated median daily intake of ∑LCM through dust ingestion was 1.19 ng/kg bw/d for children, whereas that through dermal absorption was 0.18 ng/kg bw/d for adults in the United States.

Recent advances in low-cost liquid crystal display (LCD) 3D printing have popularized its use in creating microfluidic master molds and complete devices. However, the quality and precision of these fabrications often fall short of the rigorous standards required for advanced microfluidic applications. This study introduces a novel approach to enhance the dimensional accuracy of microchannels produced using a desktop LCD 3D printer. We propose a method for dimension compensation, optimize the printing parameters, and provide a straightforward post-treatment technique to ensure high-quality curing of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) in master molds made from photosensitive resin. Our investigation assesses the precision of 3D printing across three different scales of square cross-section microchannels by measuring their widths and heights, leading to the determination of optimal printing parameters that minimize dimensional errors. The dimensional errors are further reduced by introducing a series of dimension compensation factors, which correct the nominal dimensions of the microchannels by using the compensation factors in 3D printing. The dimensional accuracy is significantly improved after compensation even in fabricating complex microchannels of triangular cross-sections. Finally, a spiral channel of trapezoidal-like cross-section with tilted edges is fabricated for microfluidic application, and highly efficient particle separation is realized in the channel. The proposed method provides new insights for utilizing desktop LCD 3D printers to achieve high-accuracy microstructures necessary for advanced microfluidic applications.

Cell death is an important facet of animal development. In some developing tissues, death is the ultimate fate of over 80% of generated cells. Although recent studies have delineated a bewildering number of cell death mechanisms, most have only been observed in pathological contexts, and only a small number drive normal development. This Primer outlines the important roles, different types and molecular players regulating developmental cell death, and discusses recent findings with which the field currently grapples. We also clarify terminology, to distinguish between developmental cell death mechanisms, for which there is evidence for evolutionary selection, and cell death that follows genetic, chemical or physical injury. Finally, we suggest how advances in understanding developmental cell death may provide insights into the molecular basis of developmental abnormalities and pathological cell death in disease.

Preoperative weight loss before a bariatric surgery reduces long-term complications, but there is no solid evidence for short-term or perioperative complications. This review highlights recent evidence on dietary protocols and the possible correlation between weight loss and surgical complications. Updated evidence was searched in PubMedDirect with the terms "preoperative very low-calorie diet or very-low-calorie ketogenic diet or low-fat diet or intermittent fasting or Mediterranean diet and bariatric surgery or bariatric surgery complications." The main characteristics of each diet, achievements related to weight loss, liver reduction, peri and postoperative outcomes, surgical complications, tolerance, and adherence to the diet are presented from the selected studies. There are few reports about the Mediterranean diet as a strategy to reach these goals. The VLCKD has been associated with better body weight reduction and lesser postoperative complications risk. However, the results in animal models are still controversial. When comparing VLCD with an LCD, there is no apparent superiority between one against the other one. However, LCD has shown better tolerance and adherence than VLCD. There is still a need for more controlled studies to define the best preoperative dietary treatment for weight loss before bariatric surgery since there are controversial positions regarding this issue.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Recently, pemafibrate and a low-carbohydrate diet (LCD) have each been reported to improve fatty liver disease. However, it is unclear whether their combination improves fatty liver disease and is equally effective in obese and non-obese patients. METHODS: In 38 metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) patients, classified by baseline body mass index (BMI), changes in laboratory values, magnetic resonance elastography (MRE), and magnetic resonance imaging-proton density fat fraction (MRI-PDFF) were studied after 1 year of combined pemafibrate plus mild LCD. RESULTS: The combination treatment resulted in weight loss (P = 0.002), improvement in hepatobiliary enzymes (γ-glutamyl transferase, P = 0.027; aspartate aminotransferase, P < 0.001; alanine transaminase [ALT], P < 0.001), and improvement in liver fibrosis markers (FIB-4 index, P = 0.032; 7 s domain of type IV collagen, P = 0.002; M2BPGi, P < 0.001). Vibration-controlled transient elastography improved from 8.8 to 6.9 kPa (P < 0.001) and MRE improved from 3.1 to 2.8 kPa (P = 0.017) in the liver stiffness. MRI-PDFF improved from 16.6% to 12.3% in liver steatosis (P = 0.007). In patients with a BMI of 25 or higher, improvements of ALT (r = 0.659, P < 0.001) and MRI-PDFF (r = 0.784, P < 0.001) were significantly correlated with weight loss. However, in patients with a BMI below 25, the improvements of ALT or PDFF were not accompanied by weight loss. CONCLUSIONS: Combined treatment with pemafibrate and a low-carbohydrate diet resulted in weight loss and improvements in ALT, MRE, and MRI-PDFF in MAFLD patients. Although such improvements were associated with weight loss in obese patients, the improvements were observed irrespective of weight loss in non-obese patients, indicating this combination can be effective both in obese and non-obese MAFLD patients.

PURPOSE: To provide a brief summary and comparison of the most recent literature on available and theorized treatment modalities for classic lattice corneal dystrophy (LCD). This paper aims to support practitioners in their management of this disease. METHODS: A search was carried out on available literature through PubMed and Google Scholar of English language articles up to January 2023 that relate to the treatment of LCD. Due to scarcity of literature regarding specific novel therapies for LCD, results from other corneal pathologies (granular corneal dystrophy, corneal scarring) are sometimes included for contrast, which is clearly denoted. RESULTS: LCD is a slowly progressive disease that leads to recurrent epithelial corneal erosions, stromal haze, corneal opacification, substantial discomfort, and visual impairment. Due to its autosomal-dominant inheritance pattern, this disease can persist throughout ancestral lines and requires consistent treatment and follow-up. An optimal management plan is necessary to (1) prolong years of life with best achievable visual acuity; (2) treat painful recurrent corneal erosions as they occur; (3) ensure proper follow-up throughout the life of a patient, as well as monitor at-risk offspring; and (4) monitor efficacy of treatment. CONCLUSIONS: This paper addresses (1) treatment for early disease including corneal epithelial debridement, photo therapeutic keratectomy (PTK), femtosecond laser-assisted lamellar keratectomy (FLK), and others; (2) treatment for late disease including full thickness keratoplasties and anterior lamellar keratoplasties; and (3) potential future treatment considerations including a wide variety of topical/systemic, genetic, and regenerative approaches.

The recycling of organic solvents is a widely discussed topic. The waste organic solvents from thin-film-transistor liquid-crystal display (TFT-LCD) production is characterized by large quantities, multiple types, and complex compositions. Thus, the unified and compatible component analysis method is important for studying the recovery of waste organic solvents. In our work, based on the study of existing analytical methods, we designed a compatible method for the analysis of moisture using Karl Fischer analysis, for the analysis of organic compounds using gas chromatography, and for the analysis of the photoresist and other solids by evaporation. These were specific methods for analyzing the components of near-total formulation thin-film-transistor liquid-crystal display waste organic solvent. The organic matter content was analyzed via gas chromatography with a CP-Sil8CB column and flame ionization detector. The initial temperature of the column was 90 °C and the holding time was 1 min. The heating rate was 30 °C/min. The temperature was raised to 270 °C for 7 min. The internal standard method and the external standard method were used to determine the content of the main components of organic compounds. The relative standard deviation of the analytical results was 1.14~2.93%, 1.21~4.74% and 0.61%, respectively. The analytical results had good accuracy, but the external standard method was better; the recoveries were 99.76~107.60%, 95.86~107.70%, and 95.23~96.88%, respectively. Based on the composition analysis, the composition rule of the waste organic solvent was summarized. Through the exploration of the effect of the waste solvent, the common characteristics of the waste solvent were obtained. This study provides a good strategy and an optimized method for improving the efficiency of organic solvent recovery.

In this paper, we investigate the algebraic structure of the non-local ring Rq=Fq[v]/⟨v2+1⟩ and identify the automorphisms of this ring to study the algebraic structure of the skew constacyclic codes and their duals over this ring. Furthermore, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for the skew constacyclic codes over Rq to be linear complementary dual (LCD). We present some examples of Euclidean LCD codes over Rq and tabulate the parameters of Euclidean LCD codes over finite fields as the Φ-images of these codes over Rq, which are almost maximum distance separable (MDS) and near MDS. Eventually, by making use of Hermitian linear complementary duals of skew constacyclic codes over Rq and the map Φ, we give a class of entanglement-assisted quantum error correcting codes (EAQECCs) with maximal entanglement and tabulate parameters of some EAQECCs with maximal entanglement over finite fields.

BACKGROUND: Intestinal barrier dysfunction, which is associated with reactive enteric glia cells (EGCs), is not only a result of early sepsis but also a cause of multiple organ dysfunction syndrome. Inhibition of platelet activation has been proposed as a potential treatment for septic patients because of its efficacy in ameliorating the organ damage and barrier dysfunction. During platelet activation, CD40L is translocated from α granules to the platelet surface, serving as a biomarker of platelet activation a reliable predictor of sepsis prognosis. Given that more than 95% of the circulating CD40L originate from activated platelets, the present study aimed to investigate if inhibiting platelet activation mitigates intestinal barrier dysfunction is associated with suppressing reactive EGCs and its underlying mechanism. METHODS: Cecal ligation and puncture (CLP) was performed to establish the sepsis model. 24 h after CLP, the proportion of activated platelets, the level of sCD40L, the expression of tight-junction proteins, the intestinal barrier function and histological damage of septic mice were analyzed. In vitro, primary cultured EGCs were stimulated by CD40L and LPS for 24 h and EGCs-conditioned medium were collected for Caco-2 cells treatment. The expression of tight-junction proteins and transepithelial electrical resistance of Caco-2 cell were evaluated. RESULTS: In vivo, inhibiting platelet activation with cilostazol mitigated the intestinal barrier dysfunction, increased the expression of ZO-1 and occludin and improved the survival rate of septic mice. The efficacy was associated with reduced CD40L+ platelets proportion, decreased sCD40L concentration, and suppressed the activation of EGCs. Comparable results were observed upon treatment with compound 6,877,002, a blocker of CD40L-CD40-TRAF6 signaling pathway. Also, S-nitrosoglutathione supplement reduced intestinal damage both in vivo and in vitro. In addition, CD40L increased release of TNF-α and IL-1ß while suppressed the release of S-nitrosoglutathione from EGCs. These EGCs-conditioned medium reduced the expression of ZO-1 and occludin on Caco-2 cells and their transepithelial electrical resistance, which could be reversed by CD40-siRNA and TRAF6-siRNA transfection on EGCs. CONCLUSIONS: The inhibition of platelet activation is related to the suppression of CD40L-CD40-TRAF6 signaling pathway and the reduction of EGCs activation, which promotes intestinal barrier function and survival in sepsis mice. These results might provide a potential therapeutic strategy and a promising target for sepsis.

BACKGROUND: We prospectively evaluated the association between low-carbohydrate-diet (LCD) score during pregnancy and the risk of allergic diseases in infants up to 2 years. METHODS: Participants were from a prospective mother-offspring cohort study in Wuhan, China. LCD score was calculated according to the percentage of dietary energy intake from carbohydrate, protein, and fat assessed in late pregnancy using validated food frequency questionnaires. Allergic diseases, including immunoglobulin E (IgE)-mediated allergic diseases, allergic contact dermatitis, and food allergy, were recorded at 3, 6, 12, and 24 months postpartum follow-up. Poisson regression models were used to calculate relative risks (RRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). RESULTS: Among 1636 mother-infant pairs included in the present analysis, 230 infants (14.1%) with IgE-mediated allergic diseases, 77 (4.7%) with allergic contact dermatitis, and 488 (29.8%) with food allergy were, respectively, reported. Independent of total energy intake and other potential confounders, both the lowest quintile (RR, 1.77; 95% CI, 1.13-2.77) and the highest quintile (RR, 1.72; 95% CI, 1.22-2.63), were associated with the risk of IgE-mediated allergic diseases compared with the middle quintile. Among high-carbohydrate-diet pregnant women, substituting 5% of energy from either protein or fat for carbohydrate was associated with a lower risk of IgE-mediated allergic diseases. While among low-carbohydrate-diet pregnant women, substituting 5% of energy from carbohydrate, especially high-quality carbohydrate, for fat was associated with a lower risk of IgE-mediated allergic diseases. CONCLUSION: Maternal low carbohydrate-high protein and fat, and high carbohydrate-low protein and fat diet were both associated with an increased risk of allergic diseases in the infants up to 2 years. This study may provide an intervention strategy for allergy prevention in early childhood.

Epidemiological studies on the association between the low carbohydrate diet (LCD) score and cardiovascular disease risk factors have limited and inconsistent results. Data are from the baseline survey of Community-based Cohort Study on Nervous System Diseases. A total of 4609 adults aged ≥18 years were included in the study. Dietary data were assessed using a validated semi-quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire. Multivariable logistic regression analyses were used to estimate relationships of three LCD scores with low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), high low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia, impaired fasting glucose (IFG), high blood pressure, and hyperuricemia after adjusting for potential confounders. A higher LCD score was negatively associated with low HDL-C [OR (95%CI): 0.65 (0.50, 0.83), P=0.0001] and IFG [OR (95%CI): 0.65 (0.51, 0.81), P=0.001] after the final adjustment. However, there are gender differences in this result. Males in the highest quintile of the animal-based or plant-based LCD scores showed a decreased risk of low HDL-C, and females in the highest quintile of the animal-based or plant-based LCD scores showed a decreased risk of IFG than those in the lowest quintile of the LCD scores. These results suggest that gender differences should be considered when using LCD to treat dyslipidemia and reduce fasting blood glucose.

BACKGROUND: Surgical site infection (SSI) is a post-operative complication of high concern with adverse impact on patient prognosis and public health systems. Recently, SSI pathogens have experienced a change in microbial profile with increasing reports of non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) as important pathogens. AIM: of the study The study aimed to detect the prevalence of NTM among cases with SSIs and describe their species using matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) and PCR-based microarray. METHODS: The study was conducted with 192 pus samples collected from patients with SSI. Mycobacterial investigations were done in the form of Ziehl-Neelsen (ZN) smears for acid-fast bacilli, automated mycobacterial culture to isolate mycobacteria, followed by immunochromatography test to predict NTM. NTM-positive cultures were tested by MALDI -TOF MS and PCR-based microarray to reach species-level identification. RESULTS: Mycobacterial growth was found in 11/192 samples (5.7%) and identified as 4 NTM and 7 M. tuberculosis isolates with prevalence of 2.1% and 3.64%, respectively. The NTM species were described by MALDI-TOF as M. abscessus, M. porcinum, M. bacteremicum, and M. gordonae. Microarray agreed with MALDI-TOF in identifying one isolate (M. abscessus), while two isolates were classified as belonging to broad groups and one isolate failed to be identified. CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of NTM among SSI was found to be low, yet have to be considered in the diagnosis of mycobacteria. Employing advanced technologies in diagnosis is recommended to guide for appropriate treatment.

South Korea is a global leader in electronics, but little is known about their climate change impact. Here, we estimate the direct and indirect greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of Korean electronics by developing a new and high-resolution (∼380 sectors) environmentally extended input-output model, named KREEIO. We find that final demand for Korean electronics led to nearly 8% of national GHG emissions in 2017, mostly because of indirect emissions embodied in the electronics supply chain. Notably, the semiconductor and display sectors contributed 3.2% and 2.4% to national emissions, with capital investment accounting for 17% of the two sectors' total emissions or nearly 1% of national emissions. For other electronic products, scope 1, scope 2, and upstream scope 3 emissions on average accounted for 3%, 10%, and 87% of a sector's GHG intensity, respectively. Detailed contribution analysis suggests that reducing Korean electronics GHG emissions would benefit most from the transition to a low-carbon electricity grid, but mitigation efforts in many other sectors such as metals and chemicals are also important. Overall, our study underscores the significance of electronics GHG emissions in South Korea, especially those from semiconductors and displays, and the mitigation challenges these sectors face as demand continues to grow globally.

Liquid crystal monomers (LCMs) are a class of emerging chemical pollutants; however, their release and gas-particle partitioning remain unknown. This study performed the first comprehensive analysis of a wide range of 93 LCMs in the ambient air of liquid crystal display (LCD) dismantling facilities. A total of 53 of the 93 target LCMs were detected in the air samples. The total atmospheric concentrations (gas and particles) of LCMs (∑LCMs) ranged from 68,800 to 385,000 (median of 204,000) pg/m3. Most LCMs were predominant in the gas phase, implying that their atmospheric transport would be mainly governed by gas rather than particle diffusions. Differential distribution patterns of the LCMs were observed due to their different atmospheric partitioning behaviors. Significant linear correlations were found between the gas-particle partitioning coefficients (KP) and the predicted subcooled vapor pressures (PL) and octanol-air partitioning coefficients (Koa) (p < 0.01). Compared with two equilibrium-state models, the experimentally observed particulate fractions (ϕ) fit better with the predicted values based on the Li-Ma-Yang (L-M-Y) steady-state model, and Koa was identified as a key factor determining the atmospheric fate pathways of LCMs. Our study highlights another new class of chemicals significantly contributing to the chemical mixture in the ambient air at e-waste recycling areas.

PURPOSE: To investigate the applicability of liquid crystal displays (LCD) as suitable replacement for cathode ray tube monitors (CRT) as stimulator for the sweep VEP for estimating visual acuity. METHODS: In a first experiment, sweep VEPs were recorded in 13 healthy volunteers with best-corrected visual acuity with an LCD and a CRT monitor, respectively. Time-to-peak after stimulus and peak-to-trough amplitudes as well as the visual acuity, estimated using a second-order polynomial and the modified Ricker model, were compared between both monitor types. In a second experiment, sweep VEPs were recorded in six healthy volunteers with two levels of stimulus contrast using artificially reduced visual acuities as well as best-corrected with the same monitors as in the first experiment and additionally, a modern LCD gaming monitor with a response time of 1 ms. Time-to-peak after stimulus and peak-to-trough amplitudes were compared between the different combinations of monitors and contrasts. Finally, visual acuities estimated using the modified Ricker model were compared to subjective visual acuities determined using the Freiburg Visual Acuity and Contrast Test (FrACT). RESULTS: In the first experiment, the time-to-peak after stimulus presentation was statistically significantly delayed for LCD displays (mean difference [confidence interval]: 60.0 [54.0, 65.9] ms; t(516) = 19.7096, p < 0.0001). Likewise, peak-to-trough amplitudes were statistically significantly smaller for the LCD stimulator, however, not clinically relevant (mean difference [confidence interval]: - 0.89 [- 1.59, - 0.20] µV; t(516) = - 2.5351, p = 0.0115). No statistically significant effect of the monitor type on the estimated visual acuity was found for neither method, second-order polynomial, nor the modified Ricker model. In the second experiment, statistically significant delays of the time-to-peak after stimulus onset were found for all combinations of monitor and contrast compared to the CRT monitor. A statistically significant, but not clinically relevant, difference of the peak-to-trough amplitudes was only found between the CRT monitor and the LCD gaming monitor (mean difference [confidence interval]: 2.6 [1.2, 4.0] µV; t(814) = 4.66, p < 0.0001). Visual acuities estimated from LCD stimulation significantly underestimated the subjective visual acuity up to 0.2 logMAR using the conversion formula of the first experiment. No statistically significant difference was found when using conversion formulas adjusted for each combination of monitor and contrast. CONCLUSIONS: Based on the results of this study, LCD monitors may substitute CRT monitors for presenting the stimuli for the sweep VEP to objectively estimate visual acuity. Nevertheless, it is advisable to perform a calibration and to collect normative data of healthy volunteers using best-corrected and artificially reduced visual acuity for establishing a conversion formula between sweep VEP outcome and the subjective visual acuity before replacing a CRT with an LCD stimulator.

BACKGROUND: Routine human papillomavirus (HPV) testing is performed in cervival cancer and is required for classification of some head and neck cancers. In penile cancer a statement on HPV association of the carcinoma is required. In most cases p16 immunohistochemistry as a surrogate marker is applied in this setting. Since differing clinical outcomes for HPV positive and HPV negative tumors are described we await HPV testing to be requested more frequently by clinicians, also in the context of HPV vaccination, where other HPV subtypes are expected to emerge. METHOD: Therefore, a cohort of archived, formalin-fixed paraffin embedded (FFPE) penile neoplasias was stained for p16 and thereafter tested for HPV infection status via PCR based methods. Additionally to Sanger sequencing, we chose LCD-Array technique (HPV 3.5 LCD-Array Kit, Chipron; LCD-Array) for the detection of HPV in our probes expecting a less time consuming and sensitive HPV test for our probes. RESULTS: We found that LCD-Array is a sensitive and feasible method for HPV testing in routine diagnostics applicable to FFPE material in our cohort. Our cohort of penile carcinomas and carcinomas in situ was associated with HPV infection in 61% of cases. We detected no significant association between HPV infection status and histomorphological tumor characteristics as well as overall survival. CONCLUSIONS: We showed usability of molecular HPV testing on a cohort of archived penile carcinomas. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study investigating LCD-Array technique on a cohort of penile neoplasias.

Backlight power-saving algorithms can reduce the power consumption of the display by adjusting the frame pixels with optimal clipping points under some tradeoff criteria. However, the computation for the selected clipping points can be complex. In this paper, a novel algorithm is created to reduce the computation time of the state-of-the-art backlight power-saving algorithms. If the current frame is similar to the previous frame, it is unnecessary to execute the backlight power-saving algorithm for the optimal clipping points, and the derived clipping point from the previous frame can be used for the current frame automatically. In this paper, the motion vector information was used as the measurement of the similarity between adjacent frames, where the generation of the motion vector information requires no extra complexity since it is generated to reconstruct the decoded frame pixels before the display. The experiments showed that the proposed work can reduce the running time of the state-of-the-art methods by 25.21% to 64.22%, while the performances are maintained; the differences with the state-of-the-art methods in PSNR are only 0.02~1.91 dB, and those in power are only -0.001~0.008 W.
