In this national survey of fellowship program directors and fellows interviewed in-person and virtually, fellowship program directors and fellows formed accurate impressions, regardless of format, but our data did not clearly support one interview format over another.

Faculty career advisors who guide applicants applying to obstetrics and gynecology residency programs need updated information and resources, given the constant changes and challenges to the residency application process. Initial changes included standardization of the application timeline and interview processes. More recent changes included the utilization of a standardized letter of evaluation, initiation of program signaling, second look visit guidelines, and updated sections in the Electronic Residency Application Service. Challenges in advising include the unmatched applicant and the applicant who is couples matching in the era of program signaling. Additional considerations include applying with the current status of reproductive health law restrictions and preparing for a new residency application platform. The Undergraduate Medical Education Committee of the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics provides this updated guide of the prior 2021 resource for advisors to increase confidence in advising students, boost professional fulfillment with advising activities, and aid in satisfaction with advising resources. This guide covers the continuing challenges and future opportunities in the resident application process.

INTRODUCTION: Residency interviews have traditionally been conducted in person; however, COVID-19 forced programs to shift to virtual interviewing. This study delineated the nationwide trends observed after virtual interviewing across multiple application cycles on both surgical residency applicant competitiveness and program workload. METHODS: Publicly available National Residency Matching Program applicant and program data were retrospectively reviewed. Applicant competitiveness was assessed using a validated competitive index (# positions ranked/match rate). Interview types included in-person (2010-2020) or virtual (2021-2023), and programs were classified as general surgery (GS), surgical subspecialty (SS) - orthopedics, otolaryngology and neurosurgery, and integrated specialty (IS) - plastic, thoracic, and vascular surgery. RESULTS: When comparing in-person to virtual cohorts, the competitive index has increased in GS (0.97 ± 0.00 to 1.05 ± 0.01, P < 0.001), SS (0.97 ± 0.02 to 1.06 ± 0.01 P < 0.001), and IS (0.93 ± 0.06 to 1.12 ± 0.03, P = 0.001). United Sates Medical Licensing Examination Step scores and research experiences increased over time in GS and SS (P < 0.05). Program workload, represented by number of applications received per program increased in GS, IS, and SS (P < 0.05), as well as the number of interviews conducted in GS and SS (P < 0.05). Importantly, match rate remained stable in GS and IS, with a decrease in SS (0.69 ± 0.03 to 0.63 ± 0.02, P = 0.04). CONCLUSIONS: The residency application process has been irrevocably changed due to COVID-19. The rise in applicant volume and competitiveness places unique strains on applicants and programs. Additional modifications such as signaling and ACGME guidance are needed to help alleviate strain and ensure that residents and programs alike find their best fit.

INTRODUCTION: The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in modifications to resident selection. The success of these new recruitment strategies as well as the impact on trainee attrition and competency is unknown. We previously evaluated how selection of general surgery applicants changed early in the pandemic. Here we supplement that work by reporting further modifications to the recruitment process and the perceived impact on resident attrition and competency. METHODS: An anonymous cross-sectional survey sent via the Association of Program Directors in Surgery listserv in June 2022 to programs directors (PDs) at Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education accredited general surgery programs. Surveys contained demographic questions, 5-point Likert scale questions evaluating factors related to recruitment and match process, and postgraduate year 1 performance. RESULTS: 60 PDs responded to the survey. PDs continue to value the same post-COVID factors related to determining a resident's commitment to surgery but began to shift back to nonvirtual based strategies to recruit applicants in this new interview cycle. PD commentary frequently noted desire to return to in-person interviewing. 5.4% of postgraduate year 1s comprising this first class of residents who underwent virtual-only interviews and rotations did not reach Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education level 1 milestones, similar to prior years. The attrition rate amongst this class increased from 1.3% to 2.7%. CONCLUSIONS: The attrition rate for postgraduate year 1 categorical general surgery residents has increased since the onset of the pandemic. The recruitment strategies adopted early in the pandemic have not maintained their initial perceived impact.

BACKGROUND: Since the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, virtual interviews have become a norm for gastroenterology (GI) fellowship recruitment. Most interviews hold a session for applicant and current fellow interaction. There is wide variability of the sessions across programs. There are a paucity of data on the influence of these sessions on applicants' ranking of programs. AIMS: We aim to describe applicants' experiences and perceptions of virtual happy hours (i.e., applicant-fellow sessions) during the GI fellowship application process. METHODS: We surveyed applicants participating in the 2022 GI fellowship match cycle to understand their experience with virtual fellow-only happy hours. Mixed methods analyses were performed. RESULTS: The survey was completed by 68 (13.91%) applicants, of which, 75% reported that at least half of the interviews they attended had conducted a virtual, fellow-only happy hour. Most respondents preferred that the virtual happy hours should be conducted prior to the interview day (58%) and that breakout rooms with a smaller ratio of applicants to fellows are helpful (78%). The majority (87%) of respondents reported attending these sessions at least 75% of the time. Nearly half (44%) of respondents reported that these sessions influenced/altered their ranking decisions with respect to programs. CONCLUSION: Given the advantages associated with virtual interviews and their ongoing support by professional societies, the virtual platform is likely here to stay in future. Virtual fellow-only happy hours help provide a representation of the program's mission and when successfully implemented, can be leveraged to optimize recruitment and attract qualified, diverse candidates.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated and amplified the use of virtual research methods. While online research has several advantages, it also provides greater opportunity for individuals to misrepresent their identities to fraudulently participate in research for financial gain. Participant deception and fraud have become a growing concern for virtual research. Reports of deception and preventative strategies have been discussed within online quantitative research, particularly survey studies. Though, there is a dearth of literature surrounding these issues pertaining to qualitative studies, particularly within substance use research. Results: In this commentary, we detail an unforeseen case study of several individuals who appeared to deliberately misrepresent their identities and information during participation in a virtual synchronous qualitative substance use study. Through our experiences, we offer strategies to detect and prevent participant deception and fraud, as well as challenges to consider when implementing these approaches. Conclusions: Without general awareness and protective measures, the integrity of virtual research methods remains vulnerable to inaccuracy. As online research continues to expand, it is essential to proactively design innovative solutions to safeguard future studies against increasingly sophisticated deception and fraud.

BACKGROUND: In the United States, Obstetrics and Gynecology residency interviews are instrumental in assessing the compatibility between medical student applicants and residency programs during the match process. Applicant perceptions of Obstetrics and Gynecology residency culture are a key component in determining how they rank residency programs. In 2020, residency interviews transitioned to a virtual format, and little is known about how applicants evaluated program culture during this first round of universal virtual interviews. Medical students in the United States commonly use Reddit, a popular social media platform, to discuss residency programs and share interview experiences. We explored Obstetrics and Gynecology applicants' considerations regarding residency program culture during the first universal virtual interview season in 2020-2021 by analyzing posts on a Google spreadsheet accessed through Reddit. METHODS: In 2022, we imported 731 posts from the "2020-21 OB GYN Residency Applicant Spreadsheet" Google spreadsheet posted to the 2020-2021 Residency Interview Spreadsheet megathread on the r/medicalschool subreddit to NVivo 12(QSR International, Burlington, MA), a qualitative analysis software program. Three investigators used qualitative inductive techniques to code and identify themes. RESULTS: Applicants used visual, verbal and behavioral cues during virtual Obstetrics and Gynecology residency interviews to understand three components of the workplace culture: prioritization of diversity, equity and inclusion, social environment, and resident workload. CONCLUSIONS: Obstetrics and Gynecology residency programs convey information about their culture during virtual interviews through the behavior, appearances and responses of residents and interviewers to applicant questions. To ensure they accurately represent their culture to applicants, programs should consider educating residents and faculty around the implications of interview-day conduct.

BACKGROUND: In agreement with Association of American Medical Colleges guidelines, the 2020 to 2021 integrated vascular surgery (I-VS) residency interviews were conducted virtually. In the present study, we collected data about the virtual interview process from the applicant's perspective, including preferences for interview format and the virtual resources they found most helpful. METHODS: An anonymous, online survey study of medical students who had been accepted into I-VS residencies during the 2020 to 2021 application cycle was performed. The survey contained questions about applicant behavior during the virtual application cycle, their perception of the virtual interviews, the utility of the virtual format, their preferences, and the virtual resources they found the most helpful for determining their rank list. RESULTS: Of 72 applicants, 38 (18 women, 19 men, and 1 declined to answer) had completed the survey for a 57.2% response rate. The average number of programs interviewed was 25 to 30 (31%). More than one-half (55%) of the respondents had responded that they had interviewed at more programs than they would have had the interviews been in person. More than one-half of the applicants (55%) reported that they preferred remote interviews with the option to visit in-person at their top choice programs compared with the use of all remote interviews (21%) or all in-person interviews (18%). Most had somewhat or strongly agreed (79%) that virtual interviews allowed them to properly gauge a residency program and provided adequate opportunities to interact with the residents (65%). The online resources the applicants found the most helpful in determining their rank lists were attending educational conferences, prerecorded videos from faculty and residents, and the program's social media platforms. CONCLUSIONS: The results from the present study have illuminated the current trends and attitudes of I-VS applicants for virtual interviews, including the virtual resources they found the most useful. Virtual interviews were a preferred method of interviewing and allowed applicants to assess a residency program and interact with the current residents. These variables should be considered by the program leadership when developing protocols for upcoming application cycles.

INTRODUCTION: The virtual residency application season posed numerous challenges for the 2021 residency match process. Many residency programs are exploring relationships between this novel format and the match process. The purpose of this study was to compare one of the largest general surgery residency program's applications and match data from preCOVID years to the 2021 virtual cycle. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective review was performed of applicants to a single general surgery residency program from 2017 to 2021. The primary outcome was the number of locally matched applicants. The secondary outcomes were the total number of applications, change in applicant demographics, and variability of the geographic spread during this study period. Chi-square tests of independence, Fisher's exact tests, and negative binomial regression were performed. RESULTS: 6819 applicants were included in the study. In 2021, an increase in applications was observed. The distribution of 2021 applications was statistically different from previous years regarding gender and race (P < 0.0001). The 2021 application cycle had a greater proportion of applicants from the United States (P < 0.0001) and southern US medical schools (P = 0.008). While the 2021 cycle had significantly more interviews (P = 0.013), there were no significant differences in the demographic composition of interviewees. During the 2021 application year, all 11 matches were from southern medical schools and there was a trend to more matched female applicants compared to previous years. CONCLUSIONS: During the 2021 COVID-19 virtual match cycle, an increase in both the number of applications and number of interviews for general surgery residency was identified. The characteristics of applicants who interviewed and matched were not different when compared to previous years. As virtual interviews may become more commonplace, it is important to assess all factors that may be involved in the dynamic residency application process.

INTRODUCTION: The COVID-19 pandemic forced a sudden change from in-person to virtual interviews for the general surgery residency match. General surgery programs and applicants adopted multiple strategies to best mimic in-person recruitment. The purpose of this study was to evaluate applicant opinions of the virtual recruitment format. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Postinterview survey responses for applicants interviewing at a single general surgery residency program in the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 cycles were evaluated. All interviewed applicants were sent an anonymous survey assessing the virtual interview structure, their impression of the program, and their opinions on recruitment in the future. RESULTS: The response rate was 31.2% (n = 60). Most (88.4%) respondents reported a more favorable view of the program after a virtual interview. Factors that were most likely to create a favorable impression were residents (89.6%) and culture (81.0%). 50.8% of applicants favored virtual-only interviews. The majority of applicants (60.3%), however, preferred the virtual interview remain a component of the application process, 34.4% recommended that virtual interviews be used as an initial screen before in-person invites, while 19.0% suggested applicants should interview in-person or virtually without penalty. 62.1% favored capping the number of interviews offered by programs and accepted by applicants. CONCLUSIONS: The virtual interview format for general surgery residency allows applicants to effectively evaluate a residency program. Applicants are in favor of a combination of virtual and in-person interviews in the future. Innovation in the recruitment process, including limiting the number of applications and incorporating virtual events, is supported by applicants.

OBJECTIVE: Resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, a virtual interview format was adopted in lieu of in-person interviews for fellowship recruitment. The purpose of this study is to analyze the potential effect that virtual interviews have on musculoskeletal radiology fellowship match results and collect opinions of the process. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An anonymous survey was sent to 87 listed US-based musculoskeletal radiology fellowship directors, who were asked for their 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 match data: fellowship positions, interviewees, ranked interviewees, and matched ranks. They rated effectiveness of virtual interviews on a ten-point scale (1 poor-10 excellent) and provided an ideal percentage of future interviews to be conducted virtually. RESULTS: Thirty responses were received (34.4% response rate). Primary analysis found significant increase in the mean number of candidates ranked in 2020-2021, 14.6 to 17.5 (p = 0.047). The mean rank of matched applicants increased from 6.02 to 6.43, without significance (p = 0.821). Secondary analysis, which attempted to exclude internally matched programs, found significant increases in 2020-2021 in the mean number of applicants-28.7 to 32.4 (p = 0.017), interviews conducted-17.8 to 21.3 (p = 0.007), and candidates ranked by programs-16.3 to 19.8 (p = 0.015). The mean rank of matched applicants increased from 6.39 to 7.03, without significance (p = 0.713). CONCLUSION: With results showing an increase in applications, interviews conducted, and ranked applicants while lowering the average rank of matched candidates, musculoskeletal radiology fellowship directors should consider interviewing more applicants than they usually would in the prior in-person recruitment format.

BACKGROUND: All Canadian Residency Matching Service (CaRMS) R1 interviews were conducted virtually for the first time in 2021. We explored the facilitators, barriers, and implications of the virtual interview process for the CaRMS R1 match and provide recommendations for improvement. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional survey study of CaRMS R1 residency applicants and interviewers across Canada in 2021. Surveys were distributed by email to the interviewers, and by email, social media, or newsletter to the applicants. Inductive thematic analysis was used for open-ended items. Recommendations were provided as frequencies to demonstrate strength. Close-ended items were described and compared across groups using Chi-Square Fisher's Exact tests. RESULTS: A total of 127 applicants and 400 interviewers, including 127 program directors, responded to the survey. 193/380 (50.8%) interviewers and 90/118 (76.3%) applicants preferred virtual over in-person interview formats. Facilitators of the virtual interview format included cost and time savings, ease of scheduling, reduced environmental impact, greater equity, less stress, greater reach and participation, and safety. Barriers of the virtual interview format included reduced informal conversations, limited ability for applicants to explore programs at different locations, limited ability for programs to assess applicants' interest, technological issues, concern for interview integrity, limited non-verbal communication, and reduced networking. The most helpful media for applicants to learn about residency programs were program websites, the CaRMS/AFMC websites, and recruitment videos. Additionally, panel interviews were preferred by applicants for their ability to showcase themselves and build connections with multiple interviewers. Respondents provided recommendations regarding: (1) dissemination of program information, (2) the use of technology, and (3) the virtual interview format. CONCLUSIONS: Perceptions of 2021 CaRMS R1 virtual interviews were favourable among applicants and interviewers. Recommendations from this study can help improve future iterations of virtual interviews.

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to understand the residency resources used by psychiatry applicants who applied during the first two virtual recruitment seasons, match 2021 and 2022. METHODS: Between January 27, 2022, and February 24, 2022, a non-probabilistic sample of psychiatry residents from the match 2018 through match 2022 cycles were asked to complete a survey via email and social media. Due to the continuation of virtual recruitment post-pandemic, an analysis of psychiatry residents in the match 2021 and 2022 cycles was conducted. Questions assessed the use of recruitment resources, including websites, the Fellowship and Residency Electronic and Interactive Database, virtual open houses, video tours, away rotations, and social media platforms. Descriptive statistics and chi-square analyses were used. RESULTS: Psychiatry residents from the match 2021 and 2022 cycles completed the survey (n = 605), with 288 US allopathic medicine doctors (47.6%), 178 (29.4%) international medical graduates, and 139 (23.0%) osteopathic medicine doctors. More than half of respondents (n = 347, 57.4%) reported that the virtual interview season increased the number of programs they intended to apply to. Most respondents (n = 594, 88.3%) reported attending one or more psychiatry virtual open houses and 84.6% (n = 512) followed psychiatry residency programs on at least one social media platform. Program websites were reported to be the most influential digital platform for both applying and ranking. CONCLUSION: Understanding the influence of recruitment resources is essential for residents and program leadership to optimize time and resources to assist applicants with their decision-making.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic caused graduate medical education (GME) programs to pivot to virtual interviews (VIs) for recruitment and selection. This systematic review synthesizes the rapidly expanding evidence base on VIs, providing insights into preferred formats, strengths, and weaknesses. METHODS: PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, ERIC, PsycINFO, MedEdPublish, and Google Scholar were searched from 1 January 2012 to 21 February 2022. Two authors independently screened titles, abstracts, full texts, performed data extraction, and assessed risk of bias using the Medical Education Research Quality Instrument. Findings were reported according to Best Evidence in Medical Education guidance. RESULTS: One hundred ten studies were included. The majority (97%) were from North America. Fourteen were conducted before COVID-19 and 96 during the pandemic. Studies involved both medical students applying to residencies (61%) and residents applying to fellowships (39%). Surgical specialties were more represented than other specialties. Applicants preferred VI days that lasted 4-6 h, with three to five individual interviews (15-20 min each), with virtual tours and opportunities to connect with current faculty and trainees. Satisfaction with VIs was high, though both applicants and programs found VIs inferior to in-person interviews for assessing 'fit.' Confidence in ranking applicants and programs was decreased. Stakeholders universally noted significant cost and time savings with VIs, as well as equity gains and reduced carbon footprint due to eliminating travel. CONCLUSIONS: The use of VIs for GME recruitment and selection has accelerated rapidly. The findings of this review offer early insights that can guide future practice, policy, and research.

Similar to many other medical training programs, fellowship interviews for hand surgery will be conducted virtually for a second consecutive year. We provide strategies for applicants to ideally portray themselves and to learn about fellowship programs. We include approaches for fellowship programs to identify candidates that match their values as a program, as well as ways to provide useful information to applicants about the program's culture. Given that components of virtual interviewing and recruitment will likely be an ongoing part of fellowship applications, we hope this article provides a framework to guide both applicants and program faculty for the 2021 to 2022 cycle and beyond.

BACKGROUND: Travel restrictions amidst the COVID-19 pandemic reshaped interviewing for fellowships into a predominantly virtual process. How this impacts Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) resident approaches to fellowship application and Match navigation is largely unknown. METHODS: We performed a cross-sectional survey study of fourth year OB/GYN residents in the United States who participated in at least one virtual fellowship interview in 2020. We collected information regarding demographics, application strategy, perceived strengths and weaknesses of virtual interviews, and confidence with rank list creation. Descriptive statistics were used for categorical variables and responses pre- and post-Match were compared using Fisher's exact test. RESULTS: Seventy-five out of an estimated 490 applicants (~ 15% response rate) completed the survey. Of the respondents, 65.3% felt they interviewed at more programs virtually than they would anticipate completing in person, but perceived less confidence in having the necessary information (n = 45, 60%) or understanding the culture of programs (n = 59, 78.7%) to create a rank list. Cost savings were the main benefit of virtual interviews (n = 50, 66.7%), and inability to get a true "feel" for a program was the biggest limitation (n = 43, 57.3%). A majority (46.7%) advocate for a future hybrid interview process. CONCLUSIONS: OB/GYN residents pursuing fellowship reported interviewing at more programs during the virtual season, but had less confidence with rank list creation. Cost savings benefits are weighed against difficulty getting a "feel" for programs virtually. Most would advocate for a future hybrid interview process.

BACKGROUND: Nationwide restrictions and recommendations from the Association of American Medical Colleges mandated program directors to conduct all graduate medical education interviews virtually in the Spring of 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This study was conducted to assess the impact of virtual interviews on a candidates' ability to effectively create a rank list. OBJECTIVE: The primary objective of this study was to evaluate Obstetrics and Gynecology (ObGyn) subspecialty fellowship applicants' perspectives regarding the effectiveness of virtual interviews for creating a rank list. Secondary outcomes included perceived advantages and disadvantages of the process and costs of the process. METHODS: This was a cross-sectional IRB-exempt study, using an electronic survey administered to a convenience sample of applicants to ObGyn subspecialty fellowship programs. The survey was administered via RedCap between the rank list submission deadline and the Match. Descriptive statistics were used. RESULTS: Response rate was 158/330 (48%). Overall, 129/158 (82%) percent of respondents felt confident in making their rank list based on the virtual interviews, and 146/158 (92%) were "very satisfied" or "somewhat satisfied" with the process. Of those who expressed an interview style preference, 65/149(44%) of respondents preferred virtual interviews; 49/149(33%) had no preference or were not sure. Nearly all 146/148(99%) applicants cited cost-savings as a distinct advantage of virtual interviews. CONCLUSION: Applicants to ObGyn subspecialty fellowships felt comfortable to create a rank list based on the virtual interview. This study indicates that the virtual format is effective, less stressful and less costly for ObGyn subspecialty interviews and should be considered beyond the pandemic to remove barriers and burdens for applicants.

BACKGROUND: During the 2020-21 residency interview season, interviews were conducted through virtual platforms due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of this study is to assess the general perceptions of applicants, residents and attendings at a single, large, metropolitan orthopaedic residency with regards to the video interview process before and after the interview season. METHODS: Surveys were sent to all orthopaedic applicants, residents, and attendings before the interview season. Applicants who received interviews and responded to the first survey (46) and faculty who responded to the first survey (28) were sent a second survey after interviews to assess how their perceptions of video interviews changed. RESULTS: Initially, 50% of applicants (360/722) and 50% of faculty and residents (28/56) responded before interview season. After interviews, 55% of interviewees (25/46) and 64% of faculty and residents (18/28) responded. Before interviews, 91% of applicants stated they would prefer in-person interviews and 71% were worried that video interviews would prevent them from finding the best program fit. Before interviews, 100% of faculty and residents stated they would rather conduct in-person interviews and 86% felt that residencies would be less likely to find applicants who best fit the program. Comparing responses before and after interviews, 16% fewer applicants (p = 0.01) perceived that in-person interviews provide a better sense of a residency program and faculty and residents' perceived ability to build rapport with interviewees improved in 11% of respondents (p = 0.01). However, in-person interviews were still heavily favored by interviewees (84%) and faculty and residents (88%) after the interview season. CONCLUSIONS: In-person interviews for Orthopaedic Surgery Residency are perceived as superior and are preferred among the overwhelming majority of applicants, residents, and interviewers. Nevertheless, perceptions toward video interviews improved in certain domains after interview season, identifying potential areas of improvement and alternative interview options for future applicants.

BACKGROUND: The recent surge in applications to nursing in the United Kingdom together with the shift towards providing virtual interviews through the use of video platforms has provided an opportunity to review selection methodologies to meet a new set of challenges. However there remains the requirement to use selection methods which are evidence-based valid and reliable even under these new challenges. METHOD: This paper reports an evaluation study of applicants to nursing and midwifery and reports on how to plan and use online interviews for in excess of 3000 applicants to two schools of nursing in Northern Ireland. Data is reported from Participants, Assessors and Administrators who were asked to complete an online evaluation using Microsoft Forms. RESULTS: A total of 1559 participants completed the questionnaire. The majority were aged 17-20. The findings provide evidence to support the validity and reliability of the online interview process. Importantly the paper reports on the design and implementation of a fully remote online interview process that involved a collaboration with two schools of nursing without compromising the rigour of the admissions process. The paper provides practical, quantitative, and qualitative reasons for concluding that the online remote selection process generated reliable data to support its use in the selection of candidates to nursing and midwifery. CONCLUSION: There are significant challenges in moving to online interviews and the paper discusses the challenges and reflects on some of the broader issues associated with selection to nursing and midwifery. The aim of the paper is to provide a platform for discussion amongst other nursing schools who might be considering major changes to their admissions processes.

Admissions teams are challenged to select the best applicants for their college. There is a growing emphasis on selecting applicants with personal attributes important for success in a variety of veterinary careers, but there is no clear consensus on how to best identify these individuals. A number of veterinary colleges are utilizing multiple mini-interviews (MMIs), a highly structured type of interview in this selection process. However, due to travel restrictions currently associated with COVID-19, many are now considering virtual MMIs. Long Island University (LIU) took the step to conduct MMIs virtually for its inaugural class before the pandemic restrictions occurred, largely because it hoped to reduce the cost of admission by eliminating travel costs. In this process, we encountered a unique set of challenges, the resolution of which we believe constitutes best practices for virtual MMIs. This report describes the design and execution of an MMI for LIU. We were able to interview 340 applicants in 7 days. Based on feedback from applicants as well as raters, most considered it an acceptable means of interviewing students. Both raters and applicants expressed a high degree of satisfaction with the process, and we were able to separate applicants based on MMI scores with 88% reliability.
