RESUMEN
The primary purpose of this study was to adapt selected accuracy and precision tests in table tennis to the specific skills of elite table tennis players with impairment. The study included a sample of 23 Para table tennis players with an average age of 31.8 ± 12.22 years (including 30.4% females) who belonged to the senior Polish Para table tennis team. A battery of six tests evaluating stroke accuracy and serve precision was assessed. The analysis of the reliability of these tests confirmed the legitimacy of using this battery of accuracy and precision tests to assess the skills of Para table tennis players in all three integrated sport classes: players in wheelchairs, in a standing position, and with intellectual impairment. Analysis of the data obtained from the tests could provide coaches with relevant information regarding elite Para table tennis players' level of performance and examine selected accuracy and precision elements of their individual technique.

OBJECTIVE: Dignity therapy (DT) is well established in adult populations, and it is likely that it could benefit younger people. This study aimed to adapt the adult Portuguese DT question framework for adolescents (DT-QF-Adol) (ages 10-18). METHOD: Five stages were followed: (1) the Portuguese DT-QF for adults was adapted for adolescents with the original author's collaboration, (2) an expert committee provided feedback on the adapted version, (3) an initial consensus version of the DT-QF-Adol was created, (4) expert committee consult affirmed final consensus, and (5) validation stage with a sample of 17 adolescents followed in ambulatory psychology clinic. RESULTS: DT's original author endorsed the final Portuguese DT-QF-Adol, reinforcing that it captures the fundamental dimensions of DT. There was 100% agreement on the final consensus version and defined age group (10-18 years old). Twenty adolescents were invited to participate, and 17 were included after informed consent was obtained; 53% were female. The average age was 12.7 years. The interviewed adolescents reported that the DT-QF-Adol was clear, and they did not identify any ambiguity or difficulty in answering any of the questions. They assumed that this information could positively affect the way parents and friends see and cared for them, permitting others to understand their concerns and preferences. Participants felt that the DT-QF-Adol could be a good starting point for a conversation with their loved ones. Although they did not consider vital for health professionals to access their answers, they strongly felt that the DT-QF-Adol might be essential to sick adolescents and they would recommend it to others. SIGNIFICANCE OF RESULTS: We developed a DT-QF of nine questions for Portuguese adolescents (DT-QF-Adol), coined Protocolo de Perguntas da Terapia da Dignidade para Adolescentes - 10-18 anos. This tool can potentially be considered a good addition for pediatric palliative care.

BACKGROUND: Literacy is an important factor that predicts cognitive performance. Existing cognitive screening tools are validated only in educated populations and are not appropriate for older adults with little or no education leading to poor performance on these tests and eventually leading to misdiagnosis. This challenge for clinicians necessitates a screening tool suitable for illiterate or low-literate older individuals. OBJECTIVES: The objective was to adapt and validate Addenbrooke's Cognitive Examination-III (ACE-III) for screening general cognitive functions in illiterate and low-literate older populations in the Indian context in three languages. METHOD: The Indian illiterate ACE-III was systematically adapted by modifying the original items of the Indian literate ACE-III to assess the cognitive functions of illiterates and low-literates with the consensus of an expert panel of professionals working in the area of dementia and related disorders. A total of 180 illiterate or low-literate participants (84 healthy-controls, 50 with dementia, and 46 with mild cognitive impairment [MCI]) were recruited from three different centers speaking Bengali, Hindi, and Kannada to validate the adapted version. RESULTS: The optimal cut-off score for illiterate ACE-III to distinguish controls from dementia in all 3 languages was 75. The optimal cut-off scores in distinguishing between controls and MCI ranged from 79 to 82, with a sensitivity ranging from 93% to 99% and a specificity ranging from 72% to 99%. CONCLUSION: The test is found to have good psychometric properties and is a reliable cognitive screening tool for identifying dementia and MCI in older adults with low educational backgrounds in the Indian context.

INTRODUCTION: The number of Italian citizens unaware of their risk of cardiovascular disease it is still very high. AIM: This study aimed to translate and preliminarily validate a brief Italian version of the Perception of Risk of Heart Disease Scale (PRHDS). METHODS: PRHDS was culturally adapted to the Italian context. Then, the scale was administered to 772 healthy adults. By randomly dividing the sample into two subsamples, we tested the scale dimensionality through Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) followed by Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). Finally, we evaluated internal consistency. RESULTS: Psychometric properties of the scale were appropriate. EFA and CFA evidenced a unidimensional structure of a brief version of the scale, composed of six items. Internal consistency was adequate. CONCLUSIONS: Italian version of the brief PRHDS is a promising self-report questionnaire to measure cardiovascular risk perception among Italian adults.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to translate and cross-culturally adapt the original English version of the Oxford Ankle Foot Questionnaire (OxAFQ-c) into the Arabic language, and to evaluate its psychometric properties among Arabic speaking children aged from 5 to 16 years in Saudi Arabia. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An Arabic OxAFQ-c for children was developed according to established guidelines (ISPOR). The Arabic OxAFQ-c version was completed by eighty-seven patients with foot and ankle problems and their caregivers. Construct validity of the Arabic OxAFQ-c was also examined. RESULTS: The reliability analysis of OxAFQ-Ar exhibited good internal consistency in both children's and parent's versions for all domains (α = 0.80-0.89) and excellent test-retest reliability in both versions for all domains. (ICC = 0.87-0.94). A moderate correlation between the OxAFQ-Ar and PedsQL 4.0 was observed indicating moderate construct validity. CONCLUSIONS: The OxAFQ-c was successfully translated and cross-cultural adapted into the Arabic language. The OxAFQ-Ar is a valid, reliable and useful quality of life questionnaire for evaluating children's ankle foot problems.IMPLICATION OF REHABILITATION OF OxAFQ-c ARABIC VERSIONThe Arabic version of the OxAFQ-c is an acceptable, clear and comprehensible outcome measure. The Arabic version of the OxAFQ-c demonstrated evidence supporting its internal consistency, test-retest reliability and construct validity as a measure to evaluate foot and ankle pathologies in patients aged 5-16 years. The Arabic OxAFQ-c has very good internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and acceptable measurement error with no floor and ceiling effects. The Arabic version of the OxAFQ-c can be used in daily clinical practice and in research studies to assess children aged from 5 to 16 years in Arabic speakers with ankle-foot conditions.

BACKGROUND: The relevance of person-centred care as an optimising approach to the quality of care provided to older adults has sparked the development of important instruments that measure this approach at residential care facilities and requires validation for the Portuguese population. OBJECTIVES: This study aims to adapt and validate the Person-centered Care Assessment Tool (P-CAT) to the Portuguese population. METHODS: The P-CAT assesses the level of person-centred care provided by residential care facilities, according to staff. The process of adapting the P-CAT to the Portuguese population includes its translation, backtranslation and a pilot study. To recruit participants for the validation study, we contacted the Portuguese residential care facilities with emails provided in the official registries, and the study was also divulged on social media. RESULTS: The study had the participation of 573 staff members. The mean score of P-CAT was 50.76 (SD = 7.65). The exploratory factor analysis showed three dimensions: the extent of care personalisation, the amount of organisational support and the degree of environmental accessibility. The results show good internal consistency for the total scale (α = 0.809) and good temporal stability in the test-retest assessed by intraclass correlation coefficient (0.893). CONCLUSIONS: This version of the P-CAT for the Portuguese population has shown adequate psychometric properties and contributes to the study of care provided at residential care facilities in Portugal through self-reporting from staff. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE: The availability of this instrument is useful for professional practice and research purposes and supports technical and scientific advancements that are necessary for the evolution of care frameworks.

This study aimed to translate and adapt the psychometric properties of the Behavioural Regulation in Active Commuting to School (BR-ACS) questionnaire to young Portuguese students. This study had two stages: (1) translation and adaptation of the questionnaire; (2) evaluation of the psychometric properties. A sample of 338 participants (212 female, 126 male) aged 11 to 19 years (Mage = 15.6 ± 2.1) from 31 cities and Madeira island participated in this study. The confirmatory factor analysis suggested an acceptable fit to the data for the first-order and third-order measurement models. The composite reliability values ranged from 0.71 (identified regulation) to 0.90 (integrated regulation), demonstrating internal consistency. The AVE values ranged from 0.40 (amotivation) to 0.69 (integrated regulation), demonstrating an acceptable convergent validity for all constructs. The model estimation had an acceptable fit, with values akin to those of the first-order tested model. Finally, the results of the multigroup analysis for the successive restricted models (CFI < 0.010 and RMSEA < 0.015) point out that the null hypothesis of factor invariance between gender cannot be rejected. The psychometric properties demonstrates the suitability of this questionnaire among Portuguese youths aged 11 to 19. This questionnaire will help understand the motivation aspects that underpin active commuting to school and consequently help to increase physical activity among Portuguese adolescents.
RESUMEN
Background: Multitasking is a rapidly evolving construct and we are in dire need of a sound tool for measuring multitasking behaviors and abilities across socio-cultural contexts. To this end, this study has put forward a cultural adaptation (through back translation) of an already developed (Kushniryk, 2008) measure i.e., Communication Specific Multitasking Measurement Instrument. Objective: This study is intended to translate, adapt, and validate a multitasking measure i.e., Communication Specific Multitasking Measurement Instrument (CSMMI; Kushniryk, 2008) in the context of collectivist culture in Pakistan. Design: The study was composed of two parts. The first part was completed in two phases. Phase I employed back and forward translation methods to translate the multitasking measure into an indigenous language. Phase II provided empirical validity of the translated and adapted instrument (CSMMI) using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) on data collected from a sample of 230 married individuals. The second part of the study was designed to establish construct validity of the translated instrument using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) on a larger data set of married individuals. Results: EFA using a varimax rotation on all 19 items of CSMMI showed that the instrument is a three-dimensional measure. CFA confirmed that the translated and adapted instrument is also a three-dimensional measure on the larger data set. Analysis of the intraclass correlation and alpha coefficient provided sound evidence for validity and reliability of the measure (CSMMI). Conclusion: The findings of this study indicate that the translated and adapted multitasking measure (CSMMI) is reliable and valid when applied to the culturally collectivist population of Pakistan. This also pertains to any other populations where the translation is adequately applicable.
RESUMEN
Distinct sources of stress have emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic. Particularly, fear is expected to generate significant psychological burden on individuals and influence on either unsafe behavior that may hinder recovery efforts or virus-mitigating behaviors. However, little is known about the properties of measures to capture them in research and clinical settings. To resolve this gap, we evaluated the psychometric properties of a novel measure of fear of illness and viruses and tested its predictive value for future development of distress. We extracted a random sample of 450 Chilean adult participants from a large cross-sectional survey panel and invited to participate in this intensive longitudinal study for 35 days. Of these, 163 ended up enrolling in the study after the demanding nature of the measurement schedule was clearly explained to them. For this final sample, we calculated different Confirmatory Factor Analyses (CFA) to evaluate the preliminary proposed structure for the instrument. Complementarily, we conducted a content analysis of the items to qualitatively extract its latent structure, which was also subject to empirical test via CFA. Results indicated that the original structure did not fit the data well; however, the new proposed structure based on the content analysis did. Overall, the modified instrument showed good reliability through all subscales both by its internal consistency with Cronbach's alphas ranging from 0.814 to 0.913, and with test-retest correlations ranging from 0.715 to 0.804. Regarding its convergent validity, individuals who scored higher in fears tended to also score higher in depressive and posttraumatic stress symptoms at baseline. Furthermore, higher fears at baseline predicted a higher score in posttraumatic stress symptomatology 7 days later. These results provide evidence for the validity, reliability, and predictive performance of the scale. As the scale is free and multidimensional potentially not circumscribed to COVID-19, it might work as a step toward understanding the psychological impact of current and future pandemics, or further life-threatening health situations of similar characteristics. Limitations, practical implications, and future directions for research are discussed.
RESUMEN
PURPOSE: To assess the self-perceived psychological impact of dental aesthetics among female university students and its relationship to various sociodemographic factors. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted on a sample of 2400 female students from various departments of selected private and public universities in Riyadh City. Participants completed an Arabic translated version of the Psychosocial Impact of Dental Aesthetic Questionnaire (PIDAQ) and a short demographic sheet. Descriptive statistics was used to describe the sample's sociodemographic characteristics as well as the mean PIDAQ scores. Bivariate analysis (ANOVA) and linear regression were used to investigate the impact of the sociodemographic factors on the mean PIDAQ scores. RESULTS: The pilot test revealed the instruments' conceptual equivalence, semantic equivalence and ease of comprehension. Cronbach's alpha was 0.81, indicating good internal consistency. The total sample was 1845 with a mean age of 20.74 years. The total mean score for the (PIDAQ) was 58.10 (SD=11.41). Significant differences were detected between different university affiliation in the dental self-consciousness (<0.0001), social (<0.0001) and psychological impacts (0.0256) and the total PIDAQ scores (0.0024). Significant differences were also detected between different disciplines in the dental aesthetics (0.0110) and social (0.0195) domains as well as the total PIDAQ scores (0.0144). College level was also a significant factor where middle students were significantly impacted socially (0.0026) compared to junior level students. As for the impact of income, those with the highest income displayed greater social impact (0.0039), psychological impact (0.0046) and impact on aesthetic attitude (0.0037) when compared to students with lower income levels. CONCLUSION: Dental aesthetics was found to affect the psychological well-being of the subjects. University affiliation, faculty affiliation, college level, and level of income were all factors that significantly affected self-perceived aesthetics and psychosocial well-being.
RESUMEN
The article presents findings from three studies designed to validate and culturally adapt the Polish version of the Revised Illness Perception Questionnaire (IPQ-R), a measure of the cognitive and emotional components of illness representations among oncology patients. The tool is conceptually based on Leventhal's Self-Regulatory Model (Leventhal et al., 1984, 2001). The results of the study 1 (n = 40) show that it can be successfully used in a Polish cultural context as a reliable equivalent to its original English version (Moss-Morris et al., 2002). Analyses conducted in Study 2 (n = 318) provided good evidence for construct and criterion validity as well as the internal reliability of the IPQ-R subscales. Study 3 (n = 54) revealed that the IPQ-R subscales present good test-retest reliability. Overall, the results show that the Polish version of the IPQ-R provides a comprehensive and psychometrically acceptable assessment of the representation of cancer and can be reliably used in studies involving Polish oncology patients.
RESUMEN
BACKGROUND: Aphasia is a common consequence of stroke. To optimize recovery, it becomes critical as there are early identification and treatment of language deficits. The rising burden of stroke aphasia and lack of screening tools in the Indian context necessitates the need for a screening tool. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to adapt and validate the Frenchay Aphasia Screening Test (FAST) to the Indian context in two widely spoken Indian languages, Telugu and Kannada, for the literate and illiterate population. METHODS: A systematic process of adaptation and culturally appropriate modifications of the original FAST were done in 116 healthy controls and 115 patients. The validity of the adapted test was established. RESULTS: The optimum cut-off values for detecting aphasia in our sample ranged from 25 to 25.5 (literate) and 13.5 to 15.5 (illiterate) with high sensitivity and specificity. There was also a significant correlation between aphasia scores for adapted FAST and the Western Aphasia Battery (WAB), establishing good convergent validity. DISCUSSION: Results of the adaptation and validation of two Indian versions of FAST, suggest that it is an easy-to-use screening measure for detecting stroke-related language disabilities. The psychometric properties of the Indian version of FAST met the standardised requirements for adaptation and validation. CONCLUSIONS: The Indian version of FAST was found to be a reliable and valid bedside screening tool for aphasia in stroke patients. We aim that this study will facilitate the use of the test across other Indian languages and a large clinical population in the future.
RESUMEN
Background: Job satisfaction is largely associated with organizational aspects, including improved working environments, worker's well-being and more effective performance. There are many definitions regarding job satisfaction in the existing scholarly literature: it can be expressed as a positive emotional state, a positive impact of job-related experiences on individuals, and employees' perceptions regarding their jobs. Aims: No reliable scales in Arabic language to assess job satisfaction in the sports and physical education field exist. This study aimed to trans-culturally adapt and validate the Pepe's "Teacher Job Satisfaction Scale" 9 items (TJSS-9), creating the "Teacher of Physical Education Job Satisfaction Inventory" (TPEJSI) in Arabic language. This scale was administered to a Tunisian population of sports and physical education teachers and analyzed according to the Pepe's theoretical model. More in detail, this investigation systematically tested its factor structure, in terms of internal consistency/reliability, predictive validity, sensitivity and convergent validity. Methods: A total of 417 Tunisian teachers of sports and physical education participated voluntarily in this study. The sample comprised of 258 males and of 159 females. More in detail, 189 were teachers teaching in primary schools of physical education, 105 teaching in secondary schools, and 123 were university teachers. Both exploratory (EFA) and confirmatory (CFA) factor analyses were performed on random-split halves of the sample. Results: The three-dimensional alpha coefficients of the TPEJSI were all >0.80: for satisfaction with colleagues, alpha was 0.865; for satisfaction with parents, alpha was 0.856 and for satisfaction with students alpha was 0.860. The CFA fit indices were satisfactory. Conclusions: Given the good EFA factor loadings, the CFA fit indices, the correlation matrix, the sensitivity analysis, the convergent validity and the excellent internal consistency, it can be concluded that the TPEJSI is a good psychometric tool that can be used to quantitatively assess the job satisfaction level among teachers of sports and physical education in the Arabic-speaking world.

Background: Young adolescents and pre-adolescents are the population most vulnerable to disorders derived from a distorted Body Image (BI). In this study, the Multidimensional Body Self Relations Questionnaire, MBSRQ®, was adapted and validated for young Spanish people between 9 and 16 years old. Method: 719 young people of both sexes participated. The internal structure, the invariance of the measure according to sex and age, and evidence of validity and reliability of the measure were examined. Results: the dimensional model found in adults was not replicated in young people. The simplest, best-fitting BI construct in young people, examined from the perspective of the BI construct contained in the MBSRQ®, consisted of 20 items in 4 differentially correlated factors. The internal consistency of the factors contained in the MBSRQ-SA-a was shown to be satisfactory, as was the evidence of concurrent validity. Factor invariance was demonstrated as a function of gender and three age groups. Conclusions: the MBSRQ-SA-a is reliable and valid for the study of BI in young people aged 9-16 years to the extent permitted by the content of the 4 factors making it up.(AU)

BACKGROUND: HIV treatment programs are in need of brief, valid instruments to identify common mental disorders such as depression. AIM: To translate and culturally adapt the Self-Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ-20) for use in Uganda and to investigate its psychometric properties in this setting. METHODS: Following an initial translation of the SRQ-20 from English to Luganda, key informant interviews and focus-group discussions were used to produce a culturally adapted version of the instrument. The adapted SRQ-20 was administered to 200 HIV-positive individuals in a rural antiretroviral therapy program in southern Uganda. All study participants were also evaluated by a psychiatric clinical officer with the Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview (MINI). Receiver-operating-characteristic analysis was used to examine the sensitivity and specificity of the SRQ-20 compared to the clinical diagnosis generated by the MINI. RESULTS: The prevalence estimates of any depressive disorder and current depression were 24% (n = 48) and 12% (n = 24), respectively. The SRQ-20 scores discriminated well between subjects with and without current depression based on the MINI, with an area under the curve of 0.92, as well as between subjects with and without any current or past depressive disorder, with an area under the curve of 0.75. A score of 6 or more had 84% sensitivity and 93% specificity for current depression, and 75% sensitivity and 90% specificity for any depressive disorder. CONCLUSION: The SRQ-20 appears to be a reliable and valid screening measure for depression among rural HIV-positive individuals in southern Uganda. The use of this screening instrument can potentially improve detection and management of depression in this setting.

Objectives@#1) To translate and cross-culturally adapt the Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS) into Filipino; 2) To validate the Filipino translation of KOOS using the Filipino Short-Form 36 Health Survey (SF-36) among patients with knee osteoarthritis (kOA) at a tertiary hospital. @*Methodology@#A Filipino version of the KOOS was translated and cross-culturally adapted from the original English version and validated following standard guidelines. Adult Fiipino patients with knee osteoarthritis at the University of the Phiippines-Philippine General Hospital were asked to complete identical questionnaires containing the Filipino KOOS and Filipino SF-36, with re-test on the same patients after a median of 14 days. Reliability was assessed using Cronbach’s alpha and intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC); dimensionality using convergent and divergent construct validity. @*Results@#The Filipino translation of the KOOS was administered to 30 patients with knee OA (kOA). Cronbach's α across the Filipino KOOS domains ranged from 0.71 to 0.89 suggesting good internal consistency. The reproducibility of measurements of all KOOS subscales by ICC ranged from 0.97 to 1.0. For convergent construct validity, there was moderate correlation between KOOS ADL (0.38, p =0.03) and knee-related QoL (0.42, p=0.02) by SF-36 Physical Functioning (PF). A strong correlation (0.51, p=0.003) was observed between KOOS sports and recreation domain with SF-36 PF. For divergent construct validity, there was weak correlation between KOOS pain (0.015, p=0.93) and symptoms (0.15, p=0.42) with SF 36 Social Functioning. @*Conclusion@#The Filipino version of the KOOS is a valid and reliable instrument to measure the different aspects of disability affecting quality of life of Filipino patients with kOA.

Abstract The present work was carried out in order to validate the Barratt Impulsivity Scale (bis-11) in the population of Bogota, and thus provide empirical evidence to unify the interpretation and analysis criteria. Participated 313 people: 98 deprived of freedom temporarily in the Unit of Immediate Reaction (URI); 86 diagnosed with disorders related to impulsivity and 126 university students. The cultural adaptation of the test was made through linguistic revision, expert judgment and piloting. Subsequently, the instrument was validated. The results showed a reliability of the total scale of a 0.7 and for motor subscales a 0.6, attentional a 0.5 and unplanned a 0.4; the exploratory factor analysis identified 2 factors that explain 29.77% of the total variance. The evidence allows to conclude a psychometric quality moderate, for which it is recommended not to use this version for diagnosis and perform the translation of the last update of the original scale.
