RESUMEN

The primary objective of this study was to objectively compare the visual performance of patients following premium pseudophakic presbyopia corrections in different light combinations for near- and intermediate-vision activities of daily living (ADLs). This is a prospective, comparative study. A total of 75 patients populated three study groups: G1-patients with bilateral trifocal implantation, G2-patients with bilateral bifocal implantation, and G3-patients with bilateral monofocal implantation. All participants addressed 10 ADLs in nine combinations of light temperature (3000 K, 4000 K, and 6000 K) and light intensity (25 fc, 50 fc, and 75 fc) and declared their subjectively optimal light combination while reading. G2 and G3 had the best total ADL scores in 6000 K/75 fc, while G1 had the best total ADL score in 4000 K/75 fc. Total ADL, easy ADL, and moderate difficulty ADL scores were significantly better in G2, while difficult ADL score was significantly better in G1. The majority of all groups selected 6000 K/75 fc as the most comfortable light combination, and no group selected 3000 K and 25 fc. In conclusion, trifocal patients benefit from intense daylight, while bifocal and monofocal patients benefit from intense, cold lighting. Trifocal patients present superior near-vision capacity in difficult near-vision daily tasks, while bifocal patients present superiority in easy and moderate-difficulty ADLs.

Background: The dataset comprises geolocalised records of dive and surface interval durations, light level and temperature of the seawater during the post-resting and post-moulting tracks of 13 immature southern elephant seals, Miroungaleonina. It describes an unpublished open access version of the original data with records of light level and temperature of the water column using the Darwin Core standard (DwC) through ArOBIS, guaranteeing compliance with the FAIR principles, encompassing a wide time scale (2005, 2006 and 2007) and geographic range in the South Atlantic and Pacific Oceans (South West [-58.75, -81.29], North East [-37.60, -28.65]). Seals were simultaneously equipped with affordable light-temperature loggers (LTLs) and satellite tags. The LTLs recorded light level and temperature of the water column at 30-s intervals during dives and light-time records were applied to estimate dive parameters of diurnal records from 06:00 to 17:00 h, since movements up and down the water column are reflected by changes in light level. For that, the minimum light level reached at the surface of a dive was determined experimentally with diurnal dive simulations at sea using the LTLs devices before deployment. The dataset also includes variation of light and temperature of records between 17:00 to 06:00 h. Data can be used to identify temperature changes associated with seawater masses as drivers of the distribution of other taxa of interest and variation of light level in the seawater (light attenuation) could be linked to concentrations of phytoplankton assemblages as an index of primary productivity. New information: This dataset provides unpublished data of the duration of dives and surface intervals and associated records of light level and temperature variations along the movements throughout the seawater of 13 immature southern elephant seals in the Southern Hemisphere. The location data were generated by satellite tags and the light and temperature data were recorded with light-temperature loggers (LTLs), both devices deployed on individuals simultaneously and uploaded following the Darwin Core standard and compliance with the FAIR principles.

Introduction The primary objective of this study is to develop and validate an experimental lighting facility that allows the evaluation of near and intermediate vision in different user-defined illuminance levels. Methods This is a prospective, randomized, controlled study. Normophakic patients populated three validation groups (VGs) according to their binocular uncorrected near visual acuity (UNVA): a) VG1, 0.0-0.1 logMAR; b) VG2, 0.4 logMAR; and c) VG3, 0.7 logMAR. All participants addressed 10 near and intermediate activities of daily life (ADLs) in the three following lighting settings: 1) 25 foot candles (fc)/3000 kelvins (K), 2) 50 fc/4000 K, and 3) 75 fc/6000 K. Results Thirty patients in each group performed all ADLs in the three lighting settings. VG1 demonstrated the best ADL scores in all ADLs and lighting settings, followed by the VG2. VG3 presented the worst scores. ADLs using printed material showed significant differences among the three lighting settings for all study groups, while ADLs using screens or needing manual dexterity demonstrated no significant differences except for the Screwdriver Test (ST) in VG1. All ADL scores demonstrated a high correlation with UNVA in all lighting settings (p < 0.001). Conclusion This is the first study that validates a lighting facility for comparative studies in patients with different near vision capacities performing a series of ADLs.

RESUMEN

In this study, we collected data of meteorology, soil property, agricultural management and corn yield from five representative sites in Jilin Province, China, and integrated these data into a crop growth model of CERES-maize to simulate the potential productivity of five corn varieties. Our objectives were to simulate, calibrate and validate genetic parameters of the corns based on the analyses of climatic effects on the productivity, and to establish best practices for enhancing crop production in response to climatic change. The results showed that the projected days of sowing-flo-wering and flowering-maturing stages and yields of corn were well consistent with the measured va-lues with normalized mean variances being 2.96%, 3.40% and 9.37%, respectively, and the stan-dard deviation ranged from -10.6% to 15.2%. The mean projected light-temperature potential productivity (LTPP) of corns ranged from 7799.60 to 12902.83 kg·hm-2·a-1, which decreased by 128.6-880.3 kg·hm-2 every 10 years. The correlation analysis suggested that climate change, i.e. temperature rising and significant decline of total radiation during the growth of corns, dominated the decrease of LTPP of corns in the region. The simulated genetic parameters indicated that the LTPP of the corns increased linearly with the increase of P5 (filling stage characteristic parameter referred to silking to physiological maturity of more than 8 ℃ heat time). Our model estimated that the LTPP might increase 154.44-261.10 kg·hm-2 for every 10 ℃·d increase of P5. The simulated sowing date delay showed that five days' sowing delay would maximize the LTPP of corns in Dunhua and Liaoyuan with 0.47% and 1.32% increase, respectively, while 15 days' delay would maximize the LTPP in Huadian and Yushu with 1.10% and 4.06% increase, respectively.
