BACKGROUND: Dyslipidemia is increasingly recognized as an essential risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. However, few studies illustrated the effects of ambient temperature exposure (TE) on lipid levels in children. The study aimed to examine the association between ambient TE and lipid levels in children. METHODS: Based on a prospective cohort, a total of 2423 children (with 4466 lipids measure person-time) were collected from 2014 to 2019. The meteorological observation data and adjusted variables were collected. Mixed-effect models and generalized additive mixed model (GAMM) were applied to investigate the association between ambient TE and lipid levels. RESULTS: A significant negative association was observed between TE and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) or total cholesterol (TC) levels both in all children [LDL-C, ß(95%CI) = -0.350(-0.434,-0.265), P < 0.001; TC, ß(95%CI) = -0.274(-0.389,-0.160), P < 0.001] and by different sex group. However, no significant association was found in low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) or triglycerides (TG) levels. The estimated optimal ambient TEs for LDL-C were 18.273 °C and 18.024 °C for girls and boys, respectively. For TC, the optimal ambient TEs were 17.949 °C and 18.024 °C, respectively. With ambient TE decreased, the risk of dyslipidemia increased for both boys [OR = 0.032(0.006,0.179), P < 0.001] and girls [OR = 0.582(0.576,0.587), P < 0.001]. CONCLUSION: This study provided a comprehensive illustration about the associations between ambient TE and lipid levels in different sex and ages from a prospective cohort study. The findings will provide evidence for the government to prevent dyslipidemia in vulnerable children through regulating TE.

SCOPE: Hyperlipidemia is currently a global public health problem severely affecting people's physical and mental health, as well as their quality of life. METHODS AND RESULTS: The present study is aimed at revealing the mechanism of Porphyra haitanensis polysaccharide (PHP) in decreasing blood lipids by acting through gut-liver axis in Mesocricetus auratus fed a high-fat diet. PHP significantly prevented increases in serum total cholesterol, triglycerides and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and alleviated damage to liver cells induced by a high-fat diet M. auratus, in a dose-dependent manner. PHP promotes proliferation of Muribaculaceae and Faecalibaculum, thereby enhancing the production of butyric acid both in the colon and liver, particularly high-dose PHP (HPHP). Low-dose PHP (LPHP) promotes the expression of phosphatidylcholine metabolites and fatty acid transport genes, and inhibits the expression of genes involved in fat degradation (Abhd5), adipogenesis (Me1), fatty acid synthesis (Fasn and Pnpla3), and fatty acid chain elongation (Elovl6) in the liver. However, HPHP inhibits the expression of triglyceride metabolites and promotes the expression of fatty acid transporter (CD36), fatty acid oxidation (Acacb), and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARg) genes in the liver. CONCLUSION: PHP regulates lipid metabolism through the gut microbiota, and the gut-liver axis plays an important role in its hypolipidemic effects.

Meat is an essential food, and pork is the largest consumer meat product in China and the world. Intramuscular fat has always been the basis for people to select and judge meat products. Therefore, we selected the Duroc, a western lean pig breed, and the Luchuan, a Chinese obese pig breed, as models, and used the longissimus dorsi muscle for lipidomics testing and transcriptomics sequencing. The purpose of the study was to determine the differences in intramuscular fat between the two breeds and identify the reasons for the differences. We found that the intramuscular fat content of Luchuan pigs was significantly higher than that of Duroc pigs. The triglycerides and diglycerides related to flavor were higher in Luchuan pigs compared to Duroc pigs. This phenotype may be caused by the difference in the expression of key genes in the glycerolipid metabolism signaling pathway.

Liver disease is a kind of common and frequently occurring disease, which seriously threatens human life and health. The study of liver disease has become a hotspot and difficulty in the field of organic diseases. In recent years, scholars have found a close relation between liver disease and the metabolism of lipid compounds in body. Lipomics, an important branch of metabolomics, can evaluate liver diseases by analyzing the level of lipid changes in the body, find biomarkers of liver diseases, and study the possible mechanism of liver diseases. It plays an important role in the study of liver diseases. In order to provide reference for further study of liver diseases and their clinical treatment, the research methods of lipomics have been reviewed, and the application of lipomics in liver diseases summarized and analyzed based on different types of liver diseases in this paper.
