RESUMEN

Cancer of the adolescent and young adult (AYA) generation has received increasing attention in recent years, however, there were few reports on radiotherapy for this area. As for pediatric cancer, many cancer of the AYA generation were treated with radiation therapy as the multidisciplinary treatment. In this article, we will review reproductive complications, which are considered to be particularly important complications of radiation therapy for AYA generation, and describe investigation of radiation therapy for cancers of the AYA generations at the Hyogo Cancer Center and the Hyogo Ion Beam Medical Center Kobe Proton Center. Germ cells are highly radiosensitive, and even low doses of radiation can cause infertility. Therefore, patients should be treated with sufficient knowledge to prevent fertility. Proton beam therapy for cancer of the AYA generation was useful therapy as pediatric cancer. However, proton beam therapy used less frequently. Insurance coverage, publicity, and access to facilities were considered issues for future study.

RESUMEN

The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection remains a huge challenge for contemporary healthcare systems. Apart from widely reported acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), the virus affects many other systems inducing a vast number of symptoms such as gastrointestinal, neurological, dermatological, cardiovascular, and many more. Currently it has also been hypothesized that the virus might affect female and male reproductive systems; SARS-CoV-2 infection could also have a role in potential disturbances to human fertility. In this article, we aimed to review the latest literature regarding the potential effects of SARS-CoV-2 infection on female and male reproductive systems as well as fertility, in general.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Published studies are not conclusive on the impact of certain occupational exposures in pregnancy, stressing the need to consider the double role, professional and family, of women. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of employment and domestic load on the duration of pregnancy and fetal development. METHODS: Using Univariate and Multivariate regression models, we studied the association of preterm deliveries (PPT) (<37 weeks), full term newborns with low weight (BPT) (<2500g) and small for their gestational age (PEG) (<10th percentile) in weight, length and head circumference according to work situation (employment/non-employment) and domestic load (low/ medium/ high) in 2506 women. The analyses were carried out using SPSS and R. RESULTS: Women with medium domestic load have lower risk of PPT (OR=0.41, 95%CI:0.21-0.81), PEG in weight (OR=0.47, 95%CI:0.32-0.69), length (OR=0.57, 95%CI:0.39-0.83) and head circumference (OR=0.58, 95% CI:0.40-0.83) and with high load PEG in weight (OR=0.72,95%CI:0.54-0.98) and head circumference (OR = 0.73, 95% CI:0.54-0.99). When analyzing employment situation and domestic load, women with medium domestic load have less risk of PPT (OR=0.29, 95%CI:0.14-0.58) than the absence of load or high domestic load. CONCLUSIONS: The results show a protective effect of the medium and high domestic load, reducing the probability of preterm birth and small for gestational age babies.

Heterotopic pregnancy is defined as intrauterine and extrauterine pregnancy entity coexisting simultaneously and which has been on the rise in recent years with the development of assisted reproductive techniques. We report 4 cases of heterotopic pregnancy, three of them resulting from assisted reproductive technologies and a spontaneous case. We also describe the methods used for diagnosis, therapies and behavior and perinatal outcome.

Se presenta 4 casos de embarazo heterotópico, tres de ellos resultado de técnicas de reproducción asistida y otro espontáneo; se describen los métodos usados para el diagnóstico, conductas terapéuticas, así como el resultado perinatal.
