BACKGROUND: Digital assistive technology (DAT) may support time management in people with dementia or mild cognitive impairment (MCI), but research on DAT for time management is limited. We aimed to explore how everyday could be supported by DAT for time management in persons with dementia or MCI from informal carers' perspectives. This study focused on a DAT device for time management called MEMOplanner (MMP). METHOD: Using a mixed-methods design, we utilized the Time-Proxy© questionnaire and a study-specific interview guide to investigate the perspectives of informal carers (n = 8) regarding the use of MMP by individuals with dementia or MCI. RESULT: The MMP was helpful in keeping track of time and activity. It helped to maintain an active lifestyle and facilitated communication. However, the MMP did not reduce the need for assistance from the informal carers, and it took time to learn the different functions of the device. Further research into employing a more extensive array of DAT for time management or other areas to assist individuals with dementia will yield valuable insights into enhancing and sustaining a higher quality of life despite cognitive decline.

PURPOSE: The sleep quality of police officers working in shifts is negatively affected due to long working hours and sleeping less during the day. In our study, we aimed to examine the differences in sleep quality and time management skills in police officers working with shift and non-shift system. METHODS: 106 police officers, 46 of whom worked in the shift system, 60 of whom worked in the non-shift system, and whose mean age was 27.6 ± 0.9 [min 20, max 40] were included in the study. Sleep quality was assessed with the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index[PSQI] and time management skills with the Time Management Questionnaire[TMQ]. RESULTS: While the TMQ total score was 80.91 ± 12.61 for police officers working in shifts, it was 72.41 ± 12.62 for police officers working non-shift. The PSQI total score was 5 in both groups. There was a difference between the TMQ time planning, TMQ time attitudes sub-dimensions, and TMQ total scores of police officers working in the shift system and those working in the non-shift system[p < 0.05]. While poor sleep quality was observed between both groups, there was no difference in sleep quality[p > 0.05]. CONCLUSION: There was no difference in sleep quality between police officers working in shifts and non-shifts. However, the time management skills of police officers working in shifts were better than those of police officers working in non-shifts. We believe that training programs to improve sleep health and time management skills in police officers are needed for both the sleep quality and well-being of police officers and public safety.

BACKGROUND: Modern undergraduate nursing students face unique challenges as digital natives balancing internet activities with the substantial academic demands of nursing studies. Given the detrimental effects of internet addiction on students' academic performance and well-being, having time management skills is crucial. AIMS: To assess the prevalence and levels of internet addiction and time management and their association among undergraduate nursing students. DESIGN: A cross-sectional, survey-based research design was used. SETTING: The Faculty of Nursing at Alexandria University in Egypt. SUBJECTS: A stratified random sample consisting of 825 undergraduate nursing students. TOOLS: The internet addiction test and time management questionnaire were utilized to collect data. FINDINGS: Internet addiction was prevalent among 98.8% of students, with 56.0% exhibiting mild levels, 40.0% showing moderate levels, and 2.8% having severe levels. A statistically significant negative correlation was found between students' internet addiction and overall time management (r= - 0.387, p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: A considerable level of internet addiction was revealed among the great majority of undergraduate nursing students; however, many students also demonstrated strong time management skills. Furthermore, internet addiction and overall time management were negatively associated, indicating that students with higher levels of internet addiction tend to have poorer time management abilities. RECOMMENDATIONS: Individual counseling and educational training programs should be developed to teach nursing students how to manage time and effectively plan internet usage.

BACKGROUND: Good attitude towards to time management is the backbone to bring a change at individual and organizational levels in different sectors across the globe. But it has been ignored by different institutions, particularly in low and middle-income countries including Ethiopia. However, this can be alleviated if there are punctual, committed, and accessible health professionals that could translate the national aspirations and the desire of the community into reality. This study aims to determine the magnitude and associated factors of attitude towards time management among health professionals working in public hospitals of Dessie City, Northeast Ethiopia, METHODS: Institution-based cross-sectional study was conducted from March 24 -April 24, 2021 among 409 health professionals using a stratified sampling technique, Frequency and percentage were used to describe the study population. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to identify independent predictors. A p-value of < 0.05 with 95% CI were used to declare statistically significant associations. RESULTS: The overall good time management attitude among sample was 67%(95%CI:66.77-67.22%). Satisfaction with organizational policy and strategy (AOR: 2.69, 95%CI: 1.42-5.09), satisfaction with supervisor support (AOR: 2.12, 95% CI: 1.19-3.77), and managers' good attitude towards time management (AOR: 2.00, 95%CI: 1.23-3.25) were significantly associated with good attitude towards time management among health professionals. CONCLUSION: The attitude towards time management in public hospitals of Dessie City was low. Satisfaction with organizational policies and strategies, satisfaction with supervisor support, and managers' good attitude towards time management were delineated factors. This low attitude towards time management could affect the practice and it compromise the health service coverage and quality unless timely and appropriate interventions should be taken. Strengthening strategies aimed at maximizing job satisfaction and emphasizing an attitude towards time might have a substantial contribution.

BACKGROUND: While progressing towards universal health coverage, poor time management in the healthcare system had significant effect on an individual such as imbalance, job dissatisfaction, and work ineffectiveness and finally poor productivity of the organization will be resulted. Information about time management practice in the healthcare system is limited. Therefore, the objective of this study was to assess time management practice and associated factors among employees working in public health centers, Dabat District, Northwest Ethiopia. METHODS: A facility-based cross-sectional mixed methods (quantitative and qualitative) study was conducted in Dabat District from May 27 to June 22, 2022. A simple random sampling technique was used to select 413 study subjects and for the qualitative data, six key informants were selected. Self-administered questionnaire was used for the quantitative study, and an interview guide was employed for the qualitative study. Epi-data version 4.6 and SPSS 26 software were used for data entry and analysis, respectively. Open Code 4.6 software was used for qualitative data analysis. Variables with p-value of < 0.05 in multivariable analysis were considered as significant associated factors. RESULTS: A total of 396 employees participated in the study with a response rate of 95.8%. The result showed that overall, 54.8% (95% CI: 49.5-59.6) of health employees had practiced good time management. The likelihood of good time management was higher among those health workers who had planning experience (AOR = 2.04, 95% CI: 1.22-3.4), low procrastination habit (AOR = 1.65 95% CI: 1.04-2.65), satisfied with performance appraisal (AOR: 1.7, 95% CI: 1.05-2.81), and satisfied with organizational policy and strategy (AOR: 2.6, 95% CI: 1.6-4.3). The qualitative result also showed that the existing performance appraisal practices were not linked to rewards or sanction planning. CONCLUSION: The overall time management practice of public health center employees was low compared with prior studies. Organizational policies, prior planning experience, procrastination, and performance appraisal were all significantly associated factors with time management practice. Therefore, health center managers need to set an intervention to address all of the following factors to enhance employees' time management skills at public health centers like evidence-based performance appraisals, sharing organizational policies, and engaging in capacity building activities such as training in time management and planning.

OBJECTIVES: To test 8 models of linear surface roughness assessment in characterizing surface profile description and to correlate these models with equivalent areal parameters over sound human enamel in vitro. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirty enamel blocks were randomly selected. The roughness data (2D-Rp; Rv; Rz; Rc; Rt; Ra; Rq; Rsk; Rku/3D-Sp; Sv; Sz; Sa; Sq; Ssk; Sku) was obtained in duplicate in a non-contact 3D optical profilometer. The models were composed by 1 single vertical trace (model 1) until 8 traces (model 8 composed by three vertical traces, three horizontal traces, and two diagonal). RESULTS: The addition of linear sampling traces to the enamel blocks did not result in Rp, Rv, Rz, Rc, Rt, Ra, Rq, Rsk, and Rku value changes (low power-from 5 to 72%). Significant Spearman's correlation coefficients were obtained in most correlation analysis (Rp ↔ Sp; Rv ↔ Sv; Rz ↔ Sz; Ra ↔ Sa; Rq ↔ Sq; and Rku ↔ Sku). CONCLUSIONS: A single vertical trace in the middle of the sample was representative of the overall enamel surface roughness (Rp, Rv, Rz, Rc, Rt, Ra, Rq, Rsk, and Rku) models. The majority of the assessed models in the correlation evaluation presented significant and positive association. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: The findings highlight the applicable model for roughness analysis over human enamel recommended for research and in situ trials assessments.

BACKGROUND: COVID-19 preventive measures required a drastic shift to online teaching-learning in most of countries. Institutions used different combinations of live online lectures (synchronous) requiring students to attend the class in real-time, as well as recorded lectures uploaded by the instructors to be accessed by students as per their own convenience (asynchronous). We undertook this study to assess and compare the perceptions of students regarding their learning experiences in the synchronous versus asynchronous mode of instruction using  their teaching-learning during the compulsory online mode of instruction at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODOLOGY: This cross-sectional questionnaire-based study received responses from 122 final-year medical students studying at the College of Medicine, King Khalid University, Abha, Saudi Arabia. An online 5-point Likert scale-based questionnaire was used to collect data regarding experience and perception towards synchronous and asynchronous learning. Statistical analysis was done using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 21.0. A P-value less than 0.05 was considered significant. RESULT: All the students found both synchronous and asynchronous learning to be equally satisfying, enjoyable and comfortable. No statistically significant difference was found when both the methods were analyzed for enhancement of knowledge. The students opined that asynchronous learning helped them manage their time better whereas synchronous learning encouraged more interaction during the live lectures. CONCLUSION: Overall, the students' perceptions regarding both synchronous and asynchronous online learning were positive. As both methods have their advantages/limitations, a mix of both synchronous and asynchronous methods may be adopted depending upon the content of the topic and the desired learning outcomes.

Predatory journals and conferences are an emerging problem in scientific literature as they have financial motives, without guaranteeing scientific quality and exposure. The main objective of the ASGLOS project is to investigate the predatory e-email characteristics, management, and possible consequences and to analyse the extent of the current problem at each academic level. To collect the personal experiences of physicians' mailboxes on predatory publishing, a Google Form® survey was designed and disseminated from September 2021 to April 2022. A total of 978 responses were analysed from 58 countries around the world. A total of 64.8% of participants indicated the need for 3 or fewer emails to acquire a criticality view in distinguishing a real invitation from a spam, while 11.5% still have doubt regardless of how many emails they get. The AGLOS Study clearly highlights the problem of academic e-mail spam by predatory journals and conferences. Our findings signify the importance of providing academic career-oriented advice and organising training sessions to increase awareness of predatory publishing for those conducting scientific research.

BACKGROUND: In today's companies, time management abilities have grown as a significant predictor of nurses' success. Organizations have simplified their internal operations and flattened their organizational structures in an effort to increase productivity and cut expenses. As a result, successful time management skills are particularly crucial for nurses in recently restructured healthcare organizations. This study aimed at exploring factors influencing time management skills among Palestinian nurses. METHODS: Cross-sectional quantitative study of all nurses (715) working in private and government hospitals and primary healthcare centers in north Palestine was conducted. Time management skills were measured on a continuous scale using the Nursing Time Management Scale (NTMS), Arabic version. The scale measures various aspects of time management including goal setting, planning, scheduling, and organizing activities. The relationship between time management skills and background variables was assessed using the multivariate linear regression. RESULTS: The average total score for NTMS scale was 63.39 out of a total score of 90. This score indicates relatively good time management skills among the respondents. The multivariate linear regression results showed that females obtained slightly lower scores than males, coefficient = -2.36, p = 0.043. Nurses in primary care centers had significantly higher scores than nurses who work at hospitals, coefficient = 4.47, p = 0.004. The type of healthcare organization emerged as a significant factor predicting time management skills. Nurses in private hospitals had worse time management skills than nurses in government hospitals, coefficient = -12.27, p < 0.001. Nurse supervisors had better time management skills than staff nurses, coefficient = 4.01, p = 0.023. Nurses working in non-teaching hospitals had worse time management skills than nurses in teaching hospitals, coefficient = - 3.86, p = 0.001. Nurses who did not attend a time management course had worse time management skills than nurses who attended time management course, coefficient = - 4.05, p = p < 0.001. CONCLUSIONS: Healthcare institutions should consider organizational and individual factors to improve the time management skills of their staff. Time management training interventions are proven and effective policies that are recommended to be adopted by all healthcare centers.

BACKGROUND: Female nurses confronting work-family conflict may endure adverse consequences for themselves and their families, leading to a decline in job performance and intentions to quit. Investigating the effects of interventions based on factors contributing to work-family conflict can aid in identifying optimal strategies for conflict reduction and mitigating its negative repercussions. This study aimed to examine the impact of time management and resilience training on work-family conflict among Iranian female Nurses in 2022. METHODS: In this randomized controlled trial employing pre, post, and follow-up measures, 132 female nurses employed in the hospitals of Bushehr University of Medical Sciences (Bushehr, Iran) were selected and subsequently categorized into three groups-time management, resilience training, and control groups-using simple random sampling method. 10 online training sessions were conducted for each intervention group. A demographic form and a work-family conflict questionnaire were used for data collection. Repeated measures ANOVA, one-way ANOVA and multivariate general linear model were used to examine the hypotheses. RESULTS: Regarding total work-family conflict, posttest mean scores were significantly lower than the pretest in both time management (p < 0.001) and resilience (p < 0.001) training groups, but follow-up mean scores were significantly higher than posttests in both time management (p < 0.001) and resilience (p < 0.001) training groups. In the control group, the mean scores at three time points were not statistically different (P = 0.058). The post-test mean score of work-family conflict was comparable in the two intervention groups (P > 0.05) and lower than the control group (P < 0.001) The follow-up mean score was comparable in the two intervention groups (P > 0.05) and lower than the control group (P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Time management and resilience training effectively reduced the work-family conflict experienced by female nurses. Therefore, it is recommended that training programs such as time management and resilience training be incorporated into the ongoing education of nurses to alleviate their work-family conflict. Considering the diminishing impact of these interventions over time, training should be reiterated based on the evolving needs of the nurses. Despite the presence of numerous generic time management instruments, relatively few research articles have assessed the validity and reliability of time management skills specific for the nursing profession. This study aimed at developing and validating a time management scale for nurses.Method A self-administered questionnaire was administered to 715 nurses working in hospitals and clinics in the northern region of the West Bank, Palestine. The scale was examined through exploratory factor analysis, reliability measures, and correlations with other scales.Results The scale revealed a 3-factor structure 1) organization of nursing work 2) planning and goal setting and 3) coordination of nursing work. The scale demonstrated excellent psychometric properties.Conclusions The Nursing Time Management Scale (NTMS) is a valid and reliable measure that can be used in assessing time management skills of nurses and in evaluating interventions and training modules aiming at developing nurses' time management skills.

OBJECTIVE: Intensive Care Units are one of the areas with the lowest digitization rate. This study aims to measure the effect of digitizing medical records kept in paper forms in ICUs on time-saving and paper consumption. In our study, care forms in ICUs were transferred to digital media. In our research, care forms in ICUs were transferred to digital media. METHODS: The time required to fill out the nursing care forms on paper and digital media was measured, the change in paper and printer costs was determined, and the results were compared. Two volunteer nurses working in the ICU of a university hospital in Istanbul measured the time it took to fill out the forms of patients on paper. Then, a future projection was made using digital form data of 5,420 care days of 428 patients hospitalized between October 2017 and September 2018. Only anonymous data of patients hospitalized in the general ICU were used, and other untempered were not included in the study. RESULTS: When the forms were filled in digitally by the nurses, one nurse per patient per day saved 56.82 min (3.95% per day). DISCUSSION: Health care services are provided in hospitals in Turkey with 28,353 adult intensive care beds and an occupancy rate of 68%. Based on the occupancy rate of 68%, the number of full beds is 19,280. When 56.82 min are saved per bed from the forms filled by the nurses, 760.71 care days are dedicated. Considering the salary of 1,428.67 US dollars per nurse, the savings to be achieved are estimated to be 13,040,804.8 US dollars per year.

Although Executive Functions has been considered as the main correlation of ADHD few studies have examined the effect of EFs on ADHD symptoms, in the samples with ADHD. This study aimed to examine the structure of EFs on ADHD students in a hypothesized model. After careful screening of ADHD among 1368 university students (with stratified and multistage cluster sampling), out of them, 211 students with ADHD diagnosis were selected purposefully. They received scales on their emotion regulation, motivation, adult ADHD, deficits in EFs, and diagnostic interview. Emotion regulation and intrinsic motivation were considered as input; behavioral-inhibition, time-management, and problem-solving were the mediators and ADHD subscales were as the output variables. Results showed that the model adequately fit the data. The model fit indices were χ2 = 27.081, df = 1, CFI = 0.99, GFI = 0.97, and PGFI = 0.02. The direct effects of intrinsic-motivation and emotion-regulation on all three mediators and indirect effects of them to ADHD subscales were significant. Based on the results, time-management mediated the relationship between motivation and emotion regulation and ADHD. Among EFs, emotion-regulation and intrinsic-motivation had fundamental influence to other aspects of EFs factors such as behavioral-inhibition, time-management, problem-solving, and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder.

BACKGROUND: Interruptions can impact consultation duration, doctors and patients' satisfaction, and quality of care provided. Although most of them seem to have a negative impact, affecting doctor-patient relationship and interfering with clinical reasoning, which increases the risk of error, there is still no evidence on their global impact on consultations. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the number and duration of interruptions during general practice consultations. To compare physicians and patients' perceptions of their urgency and impact, as well as the overall satisfaction with the consultation. METHODS: Cross-sectional study of a representative sample of annual face-to-face general practice consultations at a Health Centre. Between January and March 2022, anonymous questionnaires were given to physicians and patients after consultation. We performed a descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. RESULTS: A total of 403 consultations were included. Physicians reported more interruptions than patients (108 vs. 87, P < 0.001). From patients' perspective those interruptions were more urgent (34.5%) compared with physicians' perspective (20.6%; P = 0.029). Patients undervalued their impact on consultations (7.1% of interruptions with a negative impact among patients vs. 24.7% among doctors; P < 0.001). Interruptions did not interfere with patients' satisfaction with consultation (P = 0.135) but were associated with lower physicians' satisfaction with consultation (P = 0.003). CONCLUSION: Physicians are more critical regarding consultations interruptions, being more aware of their incidence and reporting more often a negative impact, which translates into lower satisfaction with interrupted consultations. Patients devalue the occurrence of interruptions, showing no concern about their impact on security or privacy, and their satisfaction is not affected by them.


Interruptions during consultations can impact their duration, doctors and patients' satisfaction, and the quality of care provided. This study aims to evaluate the number and duration of consultation interruptions, to compare physicians and patients' perceptions of their urgency and impact, as well as the overall satisfaction with the consultation. For that, 403 face-to-face general practice consultations were analysed through anonymous questionnaires given to doctors and patients after each consultation. Physicians were more critical regarding the consultation's interruptions, being more aware of their incidence and reporting more often a negative impact. This translated into a lower satisfaction with the consultation where an interruption occurred. Therefore, interruptions seemed to increase physicians stress and dissatisfaction, which may represent a risk factor for burnout and jeopardize patient safety. On the other hand, patients seemed not to be aware of the possible impact of interruptions during consultations. They not only devalued their occurrence, showing no concern about possible impact on their security or privacy, but also their satisfaction with the consultation was not affected by them.

BACKGROUND: Recent studies have shown that reducing pre-hospital time could improve the outcomes of trauma victims. Due to the importance of pre-hospital time management, this study aims to determine the effects of the Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) training program on the on-scene time interval reduction. METHODS: The PHTLS training program was implemented based on global standards for pre-hospital emergency technicians. The research tool was a questionnaire designed by the Ministry of Health and Medical Education in Iran. The mean on-scene time interval was calculated before, after and one month after the intervention in the control (n = 32) and experimental group (n = 32). The data were analyzed using SPSS. RESULTS: The mean on-scene time interval in the target group (one month after intervention) has been significantly lower than that of the control group. Moreover, the mean and standard deviation from the on-scene time interval in the target group has been reduced from 17.6 ± 5.5 (before intervention) to 12 ± 3.8 min (one month after intervention) which was statistically significant. CONCLUSION: The implementation of the PHTLS training program can lead to the reduction of on-scene time interval. Therefore, considering the role of reducing on-scene time intervals on victims' survival, the integration of the PHTLS training programs with pre-hospital emergency medical service systems seems inevitable.

Delays beyond recommended wait times, especially for specialist services, are associated with adverse health outcomes. The Alberta Surgical Initiative aims to improve the referral wait time-the time between a referral is received at the central intake to the time a specialist sees the patient. Using the discrete event simulation modelling approach, we evaluated and compared the impact of four referral distribution policies in a central intake system on three system performance measures (number of consultations, referral wait time and surgeon utilization). The model was co-designed with clinicians and clinic staff to represent the flow of patients through the system. We used data from the Facilitated Access to Surgical Treatment (FAST) centralized intake referral program for General Surgery to parameterize the model. Four distribution policies were evaluated - next-available-surgeon, sequential, "blackjack," and "kanban." A sequential distribution of referrals for surgical consultation among the surgeons resulted in the worst performance in terms of the number of consultations, referral wait time and surgeon utilization. The three other distribution policies are comparable in performance. The "next available surgeon" model provided the most efficient and robust model, with approximately 1,000 more consultations, 100 days shorter referral time and a 14% increase in surgeon utilization. Discrete event simulation (DES) modelling can be an effective tool to illustrate and communicate the impact of the referral distribution policy on system performance in terms of the number of consultations, referral wait time and surgeon utilization.

Patient management in the emergency department (ED) is evaluated by performance indicators, such as wait times (time to be seen by a physician), length of stay (LOS) and the number of diagnostic tests per patient. To improve the quality of care, dedicated emergency medicine (EM) specialists are employed to work in the ED. The aim of this study is to evaluate three performance indicators of patient management in the ED compared by specialty, internal medicine (IM) versus EM. Research was conducted in the ED of a large tertiary teaching hospital. A retrospective data analysis of the hospital information system was conducted for the period when only IM specialists were working as attendants, versus a period when two EM specialists joined the ED team. We calculated the percentage of patients seen within the recommended time per Australasian Triage system (AST) category and compared the average LOS and the average number of tests per patient, using data from June 2017 to January 2020. Means, standard deviation, standard error, 95% confidence interval were calculated, and the independent t-test was used to compare means. With the introduction of the EM specialists, the percentage of patients examined within the recommended time frame per AST category was higher. There was a significant reduction in LOS in the ED when comparing only IM specialists to IM specialists with two EM specialists (p<0.001). The IM physicians on average do more tests than EM specialists, which was statistically significant (p<0.05). There was a significant improvement in efficiency in the ED with the introduction of EM specialists which was manifested by shorter patient wait times and shorter length of stay in the Emergency Department and fewer diagnostic test orders.

PURPOSE: It is widely cited-based on limited evidence-that attending to a patient's emotions results in shorter visits because patients are less likely to repeat themselves if they feel understood. We evaluated the association of clinician responses to patient emotions with subsequent communication and visit length. METHODS: We audio-recorded 41 clinicians with 342 unique patients and used the Verona Coding Definitions of Emotional Sequences (VR-CoDES) to time stamp patient emotional expressions and categorize clinician responses. We used random-intercept multilevel-regression models to evaluate the associations of clinician responses with timing of the expressed emotion, patient repetition, and subsequent length of visit. RESULTS: The mean visit length was 30.4 minutes, with 1,028 emotional expressions total. The majority of clinician responses provided space for the patient to elaborate on the emotion (81%) and were nonexplicit (56%). As each minute passed, clinicians had lower odds of providing space (odds ratio [OR] = 0.96; 95% CI, 0.95-0.98) and higher odds of being explicit (OR = 1.02; 95% CI, 1.00-1.03). Emotions were more likely to be repeated when clinicians provided space (OR = 2.33; 95% CI, 1.66-3.27), and less likely to be repeated when clinicians were explicit (OR = 0.61; 95% CI, 0.47-0.80). Visits were shorter (ß = -0.98 minutes; 95% CI, -2.19 to 0.23) when clinicians' responses explicitly focused on patient affect. CONCLUSION: If saving time is a goal, clinicians should consider responses that explicitly address a patient's emotion. Arguments for providing space for patients to discuss emotional issues should focus on other benefits, including patients' well-being.

Several strands of prior work have evaluated students' study strategies and learning activities. In this work, we focus on integrating two of those strands. One has focused on student self-reports of their study practices from a cognitive psychology perspective. The other has focused on classifying student learning activities from a learning sciences perspective using the Interactive, Constructive, Active, and Passive (ICAP) framework (Chi & Wylie, 2014). The current study aims to integrate these two strands of research by testing the implications of the ICAP framework with students' self-reports in a classroom context. Another goal was to address the measurement limitations of the metacognitive study strategy literature by using assessment-specific self-reports with both closed and open-ended questions. Across three noncumulative exams, 342 undergraduates self-reported their study practices before each exam. We then categorized their strategies as either active or constructive in alignment with the ICAP framework. Next, we examined whether these strategies were related to each other and then tested the hypothesis that constructive strategies would be positively associated with better exam performance than active strategies. Students reported using a variety of study practices in which a few active strategies were related to constructive strategies, but constructive strategies were more likely to be related to each other. Lastly, supporting the ICAP framework, many of the constructive strategies were positively related to exam performance, whereas the active strategies were not. This work provides insight into the measurement of students' study strategies and their relations to each other and learning outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) are community health workers responsible for improving the health status of people by facilitating their access to healthcare services. The life skills of ASHA are known to be effective in negotiating behaviour change in the community; however, there has been a meagre focus towards improving them. Considering this gap, we adopted a comprehensive training program, known as Personal Advancement and Career Enhancement (P.A.C.E.), to empower ASHAs on life skills and financial literacy. The present study intends to assess the training program in two districts of Uttar Pradesh, India, by examining changes in knowledge, perceptions, and practices of ASHAs about life skills and financial literacy. METHODS: We conducted a quasi-experimental, non-randomized, controlled study with pre-and post-test assessments. Data were collected on socio-demographic characteristics, knowledge, and practices related to life skills (communication skills, self-confidence, problem-solving and decision-making skills, time and stress management skills) and financial literacy. Additionally, change perceptions on gender-, life skills-, and savings-related practices at the personal, community, and workplace levels were assessed in the intervention group. Factor analysis was performed to obtain the change patterns by assessing the degree to which the four life skills, financial literacy, and change perceptions on practices were correlated. A general linear regression model was performed to assess associations among change pattern scores and socio-demographic variables. RESULTS: We analyzed the data of 171 ASHAs (intervention group:86 and control group:85). There was a significant improvement in the average post-test scores of all the life skills and financial literacy in the intervention group (p < 0.001). Three distinct change patterns were found post-training in the intervention group. Factor 1 (high loadings for change perceptions on practices) was positively associated with ASHAs aged 38 and above and with experience of ≤12 years. On the contrary, the change in financial literacy and self-confidence scores was common among ASHAs with more than 12 years of experience. CONCLUSIONS: The P.A.C.E training program was found effective in improving the life skills and financial literacy of ASHAs in India.
