RESUMO

Holocene climate warming has dramatically altered biological diversity and distributions. Recent human-induced emissions of greenhouse gases will exacerbate global warming and thus induce threats to cold-adapted taxa. However, the impacts of this major climate change on transcontinental temperate species are still poorly understood. Here, we generated extensive genomic datasets for a water strider, Aquarius paludum, which was sampled across its entire distribution in Eurasia and used these datasets in combination with ecological niche modeling (ENM) to elucidate the influence of the Holocene and future climate warming on its population structure and demographic history. We found that A. paludum consisted of two phylogeographic lineages that diverged in the middle Pleistocene, which resulted in a "west-east component" genetic pattern that was probably triggered by Central Asia-Mongoxin aridification and Pleistocene glaciations. The diverged western and eastern lineages had a second contact in the Holocene, which shaped a temporary hybrid zone located at the boundary of the arid-semiarid regions of China. Future predictions detected a potentially novel northern corridor to connect the western and eastern populations, indicating west-east gene flow would possibly continue to intensify under future warming climate conditions. Further integrating phylogeographic and ENM analyses of multiple Eurasian temperate taxa based on published studies reinforced our findings on the "west-east component" genetic pattern and the predicted future northern corridor for A. paludum. Our study provided a detailed paradigm from a phylogeographic perspective of how transcontinental temperate species differ from cold-adapted taxa in their response to climate warming.

RESUMO

Notonecta maculata Fabricius, 1794 is recorded for the first time from Romania. Five species belonging to the genus Notonecta Linnaeus, 1758 and one to the genus Anisops Spinola, 1837 are now recorded from this country. The occurrence of Anisops sardeus sardeus Herrich-Schaeffer, 1849 and N. meridionalis Poisson, 1923 is confirmed by additional records. A checklist of the Notonectidae of Romania and updated distribution maps are provided.

RESUMO

The Romanian fauna comprises two species of Aquarius Schellenberg, 1800, eight species of Gerris Fabricius, 1794 and one species of Limnoporus Stål, 1868, and we hereby update the distribution and provide insights on the phenology and ecology of all eleven species in this country. We furthermore update the distribution of the two closely related species Gerris gibbifer Schummel, 1832 and G. maculatus Tamanini, 1946 in southeastern Europe. Gerris maculatus is recorded for the first time from Hungary, Montenegro and Slovenia, and the first detailed localities from Romania and Serbia are given. All bibliographic records of G. gibbifer from Romania, Macedonia and Serbia are based on misidentification and this species is thus excluded from the faunal lists of these countries. Both G. gibbifer and G. maculatus occur in Croatia, Hungary, Ukraine, and probably Slovenia.

A comprehensive survey on aquatic and semiaquatic bugs (Heteroptera: Nepomorpha and Gerromorpha) of three Greek holiday islands, Rhodes, Crete and Corfu, was conducted from 2007 to 2010 at 237 localities. In this paper, hundreds of detailed records for 30 taxa in nine families are given. The occurrences of Rhagovelia infernalis africana Lundblad, 1936 and Velia mariae Tamanini, 1971 are confirmed and recorded for the first time from Europe sensu stricto. Additionally, some notes on morphology, taxonomy and distribution of the European species of Rhagovelia and Velia are also given, Velia mariae is recorded for the first time not only from several Greek islands, but from continental Greece and Bulgaria as well. Gerris asper (Fieber, 1860), a common European species, was also found for the first time in Greece. Furthermore, new occurrence data are given for endemic taxa; Sigara nigrolineata mendax Heiss & Jansson, 1986 and Velia rhadamantha rhadamantha Hoberlandt, 1941 (whose distribution is restricted to Crete and small adjacent islands) are very common throughout Crete, whereas Ilyocoris cimicoides jonicus (Lindberg, 1922) apparently is rare in Corfu.

RESUMO

A review of the West-Palaearctic Hebridae and their distribution is given, including two genera and 21 species-group taxa (18 species and 3 subspecies). A new species, Hebrus (Hebrus) atlas sp. nov. (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Hebroidea: Hebridae: Hebrinae), is described from Morocco and is the first micropterous species of Hebrus s. str. in the Palaearctic Region. The species Hebrus fulvinervis Horváth, 1929, not recorded since its original description, is rediscovered, redescribed, and its species status is confirmed. Based on the morphological characters, H. fulvinervis is considered closely related to H. ruficeps Thomson, 1871, and transferred to the subgenus Hebrusella Poisson, 1944. Remarks on the morphology of Hebrus syriacus Horváth, 1896 are provided and its placement in the subgenus Hebrus s. str. is confirmed. The following new or confirmed distribution records are provided: Hebrus acutiscutatus Brown, 1951 from Israel, H. fulvi-nervis from Bulgaria, H. jeanneli djaneti Poisson, 1953 from Morocco, H. montanus Kolenati, 1857 from Israel and Romania, H. pusillus arabicus Linnavuori, 1971 from Iran (Hormozgan) and Oman, H. pusillus pusillus (Fallén, 1807) from Greece and Lithuania, H. syriacus from Cyprus, and H. vaillanti Poisson, 1953 from Morocco. Several corrections concerning type localities, type material and depositories are also provided.

RESUMO

A critical review of the family Veliidae (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Gerromorpha) in Romania is provided. In total, two genera and eight species (Microvelia Westwood, 1834-3 species, Velia Latreille, 1804-5 species) are known from the country. Microvelia buenoi Drake, 1920 and Velia serbica Tamanini, 1951 are recorded for the first time from Romania. The occurrence of V. affinis filippii Tamanini, 1947 and V. mancinii mancinii Tamanini, 1947 is confirmed by additional records. Based on proven or suspected misidentifications, V. currens (Fabricius, 1794) and V. rivulorum (Fabricius, 1775) are excluded from the Romanian fauna. A checklist of the Veliidae of Romania and updated distribution maps are provided. Biogeographical aspects of the fauna are summarized.
