RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Parathyroid glands can mimic thyroid follicular lesions on fine-needle aspiration (FNA) cytology and can lead to unnecessary or incorrect surgery. Newer molecular panel tests using next-generation sequencing (NGS) include analysis of cell type-specific gene expression profiles such as parathyroid. The study aim is to determine the frequency and clinical implications of parathyroid tissue identification by molecular testing in cytologically indeterminate "thyroid" lesions. METHODS: Molecular analysis of indeterminate thyroid FNA specimens is obtained routinely and relies on amplification-based NGS inclusive of PTH-specific expression profiles. For this study, we retrospectively examined the clinical data and management of patients with molecular results positive for PTH expression from May 2014 until May 2016. RESULTS: Among 4765 consecutive patients with indeterminate cytology for a presumed thyroid nodule, NGS instead indicated a parathyroid lesion in 20 patients (0.42%). The clinical data of 15 patients were available, and the subsequent clinical management was altered in 93% (14/15 patients), including five (33%) eucalcemic patients who could avoid unnecessary surgery. Primary hyperparathyroidism was not suspected in seven patients until the molecular analysis results, and primary hyperparathyroidism was diagnosed in one (14%). During parathyroid exploration, most patients (6/8, 75%) required concurrent thyroidectomy or lobectomy, but thyroid preservation was still possible in two patients. A parathyroid gland was histologically confirmed in 89%. CONCLUSIONS: In 0.42% of patients with indeterminate cytology results, next-generation molecular results will indicate the presence of a parathyroid lesion. When this occurs, it is accurate and can robustly impact clinical management (93%).

RESUMO

It is uncommon for tire explosion related injuries on the lower extremity. The bilateral lower extremities were injured by tire explosion when the patient was seated in a bus. She sustained an open fracture with partial bone loss in the right calcaneus (a comminuted fracture in the right ankle joint) and a closed comminuted fracture in the left tibia and fibula. This damage was caused by uncontacted tire explosion, thanks to a thick floor between the exploded tire and the patient's feet. This type of injury on lower extremity caused by uncontacted tire explosion was uncommon.

RESUMO

AIMS: To examine differences between the eyes in choriocapillaris perfusion and choroidal thickness in children with myopic anisometropia. METHODS: In this observational and prospective study, 46 children with myopic anisometropia were enrolled. Choriocapillaris perfusion parameters, including the percentage of flow voids, the total number of flow voids and the average flow void area were obtained by optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). The OCTA image was divided into a 1 mm-diameter central circle (C1) and a 2.5 mm-diameter annulus (without the inner central 1 mm circle, C1-2.5). Both C1 and C1-2.5 are centred on the foveola. The C1-2.5 was divided into nasal (N1-2.5), temporal (T1-2.5), inferior (I1-2.5) and superior (S1-2.5) areas. Differences in these parameters in different regions between eyes were analysed. RESULTS: There were no significant differences in the percentage of flow voids and the average flow void area between the fellow eyes. The total number of signal voids was significantly higher in the less myopic eyes in C1-2.5 (p=0.032), S1-2.5 (p=0.008) and N1-2.5 (p=0.019). Changes in spherical equivalent refraction and axial length were both correlated with the changes in the total number of flow voids in N1-2.5 (R=-0.431, p=0.03; R=-0.297, p=0.047). CONCLUSIONS: The choroid in the macular region becomes thinner and the total number of flow voids in the nasal macular region decreased with the amplitude of myopia. This suggests that a decrease in total number of flow voids may indicate an early change in myopia.

RESUMO

Bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) has a crucial role in the development of cardiogenesis, and is used in inducing bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMMSCs) to differentiate into cardiomyocytes. We have examined a combination of BMP-2 and 5-azacytidine (5-AZA) in inducing these differentiation effects. BMMSCs were collected and purified from bone marrow of 4-week-old Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats by density-gradient centrifugation and differential attachment. The fourth passage subculture of BMMSCs, selected by cytometry for purity and identification, was divided into four groups: a control group, BMP-2 treated, 5-AZA treated, and a combination of BMP-2 and 5-AZA treatment. Expression of cardiac Troponin I (cTnI) and Connexin 43 (CX-43) in BMMSCs after induction were detected by immunofluorescence and Western blot. Flow cytometry analysis was used for differentiation rates and apoptosis of induced BMMSCs, through the expression of cardiac Troponin T (cTnT) and Annexin V-FITC & PI kit, respectively. BMP-2 can ameliorate apoptosis of BMMSCs caused by 5-AZA and promote the differentiation of BMMSCs into cardiomyocyte-like cells. Thus a combination of BMP-2 and 5-AZA can significantly improve the cardiac differentiation with fewer cell damage effects, making it a safe and effective method of induction in vitro.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To study the effects of Jinmaitong capsule on oxidative stress and cell apoptosis of dorsal root ganglion (DRG) in rats with diabetic peripheral neuropathy. METHODS: Sixty male SD rats were randomly divided into normal group and model groups. The diabetic rat models were established using Streptozotocin (STZ) method (60 mg/kg of intraperitoneal injection), and then randomly divided Jinmaitong low, middle, and high-dose groups and vitamin C group. All the experimental rats were sacrificed at 16-week and then the DRG was isolated. The morphological changes of DRG were observed using the Nissl's staining, and the NADPH oxidase subunit p22-phox, Cyt C, Bcl-2, and Caspase-3 of DRG in rats were detected by immunohistochemistry and quantitative reverse transcription PCR (qRT-PCR). Cell apoptosis was detected by TUNEL. RESULTS: Compared with the model group, the expressions of NADPH oxidase subunit p22-phox protein, Cyt expression of C protein, Caspase-3 protein, and mRNA cell apoptosis rate in each treatment group significantly decreased whereas the expressions of Bcl-2 mRNA and protein significantly increased (P<0.05 or P<0.01). The Jinmaitong high-dose group had the best effect and was significantly different from that of the vitamin C group (P<0.01). CONCLUSIONS: Jinmaitong capsule can prevent the nerve injury in rats with diabetic peripheral neuropathy by inhibiting oxidative stress and decreasing the apoptosis. The high-dose Jinmaitong capsule has the best effect and is superior to vitamin C.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: We aimed to reveal the 5-year clinical outcomes of 3-dimensional (3D) interstitial high-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy with regional metastatic lymph node intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) for locally advanced peripheral non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), which has been shown to have low toxicity and improved 2-year survival rates in patients with this disease. METHODS AND MATERIALS: In this phase 2, single-arm, open-label clinical trial, 83 patients with locally advanced peripheral NSCLC were enrolled (median follow-up [range], 53.7 [4.3-120.4] months). All eligible patients received 3D interstitial HDR brachytherapy with regional metastatic lymph node IMRT. The primary endpoint was overall survival (OS). Secondary endpoints were local recurrence-free survival, regional recurrence-free survival, progression-free survival, distant metastasis-free survival, toxicities, and quality of life. RESULTS: The final analysis included 75 patients (19 [25.3%] females, 56 [74.7%] males; median [range] age, 64 [44-80] years; stage IIIA, 34 [45.3%]; stage IIIB, 41 [54.7%]). At the latest follow-up, 32 (42.7%) patients had survived. The median OS was 38.0 months (5-year OS, 44.5%; 95% confidence interval [CI], 33.8%-58.6%). Local recurrence-free survival, recurrence-free survival, and distant metastasis-free survival at 5 years were 79.2% (95% CI, 68.5%-91.5%), 73.6% (95% CI, 61.5%-88.1%), and 50.3% (95% CI, 38.3%-66.1%), respectively. The dominant failure pattern was distant disease, corresponding to 40% (30 of 75) of patients and 65.2% (30 of 46) of all failures. Two (2.7%) patients developed grade 1 acute pneumonitis. Grade 2 and 3 acute esophagitis occurred in 11 (14.7%) and 4 (5.3%) patients, respectively. No late radiation-related grade ≥2 late adverse events were observed. CONCLUSIONS: 3D interstitial HDR brachytherapy with regional metastatic lymph node IMRT for locally advanced peripheral NSCLC shows significant OS and has a low toxicity rate. Additional evaluation in a phase 3 trial is recommended to substantiate these findings.

RESUMO

Four H7N3 avian influenza viruses (AIVs) were isolated from domestic ducks in live-poultry markets in Zhejiang Province, Eastern China, in 2011. All viruses were characterized by whole-genome sequencing with subsequent phylogenetic analysis and genetic comparison. Phylogenetic analysis of all eight viral genes showed that the viruses clustered in the Eurasian lineage of influenza viruses. The hemagglutinin cleavage site of all viruses indicated that the four strains were low-pathogenic avian influenza viruses.

RESUMO

This study describes the characterization of seven H5N1 avian influenza viruses from domestic ducks in Eastern China in 2011. Phylogenetic analysis showed these viruses were closely related to an H5N1 virus circulating in wild birds in Hong Kong. Some characteristics of these viruses were similar to those of an H5N1 strain that circulated in China and Vietnam (2003-2004). The virulence of three isolates was examined in chickens and mice, and they were found to be highly pathogenic in chickens but showed low pathogenicity in mice. These results suggest that continued H5N1 surveillance in poultry should be used as an early warning system for avian influenza outbreaks.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Endoscopic thyroidectomy via thoracic/breast approach is an acceptable and successful technique in Asia. This technique has the advantage of better cosmesis compared with open or even video-assisted thyroidectomy. Unfortunately, because of the need for three separate ports, conventional endoscopic thyroidectomy usually involves significantly more tissue dissection, and thus more injury to patients, limiting the popularity of this technique. We herein present 35 cases of trans-areola single-site endoscopic thyroidectomy (TASSET), which was first performed in 2009. METHODS: Thirty-five patients who underwent TASSET for thyroid nodules from September 2009 to March 2011 were evaluated. The surgical outcomes of the surgery were retrospectively analyzed, including conversion, operative time, estimated blood loss, complications, length of stay, and patient satisfaction. RESULTS: Thirty-one of the 35 patients (88.5%) underwent successful TASSET, with subtotal lobectomy being the most common procedure. Median operative time for the surgery was 153.65 min (range 100-190 min). Estimated blood loss ranged from 20 to 40 mL. Length of postoperative stay ranged from 2 to 4 days (average 2.5 days). Visual analog scale scores were 0 to 4 without administration of analgesics. The complication rate was low (8.6%) and included one case of transient recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) palsy, one case of subcutaneous seroma, and one case of tracheal injury. All patients were satisfied with the cosmetic outcome after mean follow-up of 8 months. CONCLUSIONS: TASSET is feasible and safe, with great cosmetic benefits and less injury than other procedures. It may become an alternative procedure for treatment of patients with benign thyroid tumors, especially those with strong desire for cervical cosmesis.

RESUMO

A good visual search mode is an important prerequisite for a driver to perceive the hazard in the traffic environment timely and accurately. However, hypoxia conditions in the plateau environment might affect drivers' cognitive and judgment ability, posing potential threats to safe driving. This study analyzed the eye movement behaviors of drivers when faced with traffic hazards in the plateau environment, to examine the impact level of altitude on drivers' perception and reaction. Nine typical traffic hazard scenarios were investigated at four locations with four different altitudes, including Linzhi, Lhasa, Naqu, and Yanghu Scenic Area based on UC-WIN / ROAD driving simulation software. Then, drivers' visual search modes were analyzed according to drivers' eye movement data collected by ASL Mobile Eye monocular eye tracker. As the altitude increased, the drivers' first fixation time and the average saccade amplitude decreased, while the fixation duration percentage increased. Drivers with fewer years of driving experience had a larger percentage of fixation duration and a smaller saccade amplitude. In addition, a shorter acclimation period also negatively influenced the percentage of fixation time. The increase of altitude would weaken the drivers' visual sensitivity and cognitive processing ability of hazard information, which would reduce drivers' hazard perception skills, and the increase of driving experience might help alleviate such negative impacts to some extent. Based on the visual characteristics of traffic hazard scenarios obtained in this paper, the training of highly accident-prone drivers can be guided specifically to improve their visual search strategies, thereby improving driving safety.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Quetiapine, known as a non-classical antipsychotic drug, is frequently used for the treatment of mental diseases, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depressive disorder. Acute lung injury, a rarely reported side effect of quetiapine, is described in this case report. CASE SUMMARY: Due to terminal delirium, a 66-year-old man took a large dose of quetiapine and then developed severe pulmonary disease. His symptoms were not resolved after routine treatment, such as antibiotics, diuretic, and supportive therapies. Quetiapine-related acute lung injury was therefore suspected and hormonal therapy was initiated. Subsequently, his symptoms were alleviated and the radiological results improved dramatically. CONCLUSION: Our findings in the present report highlight a potential adverse effect of quetiapine, drug-related acute lung injury, which deserves awareness in clinical practice.

RESUMO

The Amur Tiger (Panthera tigris altaica) is one of the world's most endangered species. Recently, habitat fragmentation, food scarcity and human hunting have drastically reduced the population size and distribution areas of Amur tigers in the wild, leaving them on the verge of extinction. Presently, they are only found in the north-eastern part of China. In this study, we developed a reference framework using methods and technologies of analytic hierarchy process (AHP), remote sensing (RS), geographic information system (GIS), GAP analysis and Natural Break (Jenks) classification to evaluate the habitat and to set the conservation priorities for Amur tigers in eastern areas of Heilongjiang and Jilin Provinces of northeast China. We proposed a Habitat Suitability Index (HSI) incorporating 7 factors covering natural conditions and human disturbance. Based on the HSI values, the suitability was classified into five levels from the most to not suitable. Finally, according to results of GAP analysis, we identified six conservation priorities and designed a conservation landscape incorporating four new nature reserves, enlarging two existing ones, and creating four linkages for Amur tigers in northeast China. The case study showed that the core habitats (the most suitable and highly suitable habitats) identified for Amur tigers covered 35,547 km(2), accounting for approximately 26.71% of the total study area (1,33,093 km(2)). However, existing nature reserves protected only (7124 km(2) or) 20.04% of the identified core habitats. Thus, enlargement of current reserves is necessary and urgent for the tiger's conservation and restoration. Moreover, the establishment of wildlife corridors linking core habitats will provide an efficient reserve network for tiger conservation to maintain the evolutionary potential of Amur tigers facing environmental changes.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of medicated serum prepared by administration of Jinmaitong (JMT), a compound Chinese herbal medicine, on nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase p22-phox subunit and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) of rat Schwann cells cultured in high-glucose medium. METHODS: Wistar rats were divided into normal control group (distilled water), JMT (JMT at dose of 1.31 g/(kg·d)) group and vitamin C (vitamin C at dose of 0.08 g/(kg·d)) group to prepare medicated serum. Bilateral sciatic nerves of new born Wistar rats were used to separate Schwann cells. Schwann cells cultured in high-glucose medium were divided into high glucose group (cultured with 50 mmol/L glucose medium), JMT group (cultured with JMT-medicated serum) and vitamin C (VC) group (cultured with VC-medicated serum). Schwann cells cultured in DMEM were used as the normal control. After 48 h culturing, the expression of iNOS was detected by immunofluorescence method and p22-phox mRNA was tested by real-time fluorescent quantitative polymerase chain reaction. RESULTS: The expression levels of iNOS and p22-phox mRNA in the high glucose group were higher than those in the normal control group (P<0.01). Compared with the high glucose group, expressions of iNOS protein and p22-phox mRNA in JMT group were significantly decreased (P<0.01) and JMT-medicated serum had better effect than VC (P<0.01). CONCLUSION: JMT-medicated serum can down-regulate the expressions of iNOS protein and NADPH oxidase p22-phox subunit mRNA of Schwann cells cultured in high-glucose medium.

RESUMO

Receptor Interacting Serine/Threonine Kinase 2 (RIPK2) is located on chromosome 8q21 and encodes a protein containing a C-terminal caspase activation and recruitment domain (CARD), which is a component of signaling complexes in both the innate and adaptive immune pathways. To estimate the value of RIPK2 in evaluating the prognosis and guiding the targeted therapy for patients with kidney renal clear cell carcinoma (KIRC), we analyzed total 526 KIRC samples from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. Our result showed that RIPK2 was upregulated in KIRC tumor samples compared with normal samples. Cox regression was performed to calculate the hazard ratio of RIPK2 expression as an unfavorable prognosis feature for overall survival. Moreover, RIPK2 expression was positively correlated to the high-risk clinical stage, and metastasis features. The upregulation of RIPK2 was strongly correlated with various immune signaling pathway dysregulations as well as immune phenotypes changes in KIRC patient's cohort. In addition, inhibition of RIPK2 activity by either shRNA-mediated knockdown or inhibitor significantly reduced kidney cancer cell viability, trans-migration in vitro, and impaired tumor growth in vivo. In conclusion, elevated RIPK2 expression indicates a worse prognosis for KIRC patients and could serve as a potential prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target in kidney cancer.

RESUMO

This paper begins with an explanation of the four Chinese characters that represent the project of the Garden of the Heart and Soul. This project was founded to help the psychological development of orphans, as well as to provide psychological relief for the victims of ecological disasters such as earthquakes through the use of Jungian psychology, sandplay therapy, and the psychology of the Heart. Eleven years after its founding, there are 83 work-stations on mainland China. The authors discuss how the Chinese characters influenced the way they set up their project and the values that guide them. In addition to helping the individuation of the people they work with, their work provides a container for the collective psyche and a connection with the cultural archetypal roots.

RESUMO

Objective To investigate the application value of modified single-port laparoscopic surgery for children's unclosed processus vaginalis by using 30° electroscope, needle forceps and water injection crochet. Methods From August 2021 to December 2022,36 children with unclosed processus vaginalis were treated by modified single-port laparoscopic surgery.Instead of laparoscopy,a 30° electroscope was inserted into the abdominal cavity by the lower umbilical margin, and needle forceps were inserted into the abdominal cavity at the midpoint of the umbilical cord and pubic union.Water injection crochet with 2-0 vascular suture was inserted into the extraperitoneal space through the surface point of the internal inguinal ring. With the assistance of needle forceps, water was injected simultaneously to completely separate the spermatic vessels, vas ductus and the surrounding abdominal wall from the peritoneum around the internal ring.Without puncturing the peritoneum, the 2-0 vascular suture was wrapped around the inner ring opening in the water separation gap and led outside the body to complete the ligation. Results All the 36 cases underwent modified single-port laparoscopic surgery successfully, without conversion to open surgery. The operation time was 5-16 min(mean,9.2 min)in32 unilateral cases and9-23 min(mean,13.4 min)in 4 bilateral cases. One case was lost of follow-up,and the remaining 35 cases were followed up in outpatient clinics for 1-6 months and by telephone for 12-28 months, with a median of 20 months. There were no postoperative scrotal hematoma, testicular atrophy,or incision infection. No recurrence was found. Conclusion Modified single-port laparoscopic surgery for children's unclosed processus vaginalis is safe and feasible.

RESUMO

Objective To develop a method for the determination of ketamine analogues in hair samples by liquid chromatography quadrupole linear ion trap mass spectrometry(QTRAP LC-MS/MS).Methods 20 mg of washed and dried hair was added to 1 mL extracting solution and then prepared using an ultrasonic extraction with frozen pulverization method. After centrifugation and purification with membrane, the supernatant was separated in a ACQUITY UPLC? HSS T3 column with gradient elution, finally tested with multiple reaction monitoring for the detection of 10 ketamine analogues. The above method was applied for quantitative analysis of ethylfluamine,F-norketamine and tiletamine in 20 positive samples. Results When the concentration ranged from 0.01 to 2.00 ng/mg,there was good linearity for 10 ketamine analogues with the correlation coefficients over 0.99.The recoveries ranged from 89.1%to 106.1%,and the matrix effects were between 88.3%and 106.0%.Among the 20 positive samples, the contents of ethylfluamine,F-norketamine and tiletamine in hair ranged between 0.02~8.35 ng/mg,0.01~0.94 ng/mg and 0.02~10.93 ng/mg,respectively.Their mean values were 1.59 ng/mg,0.28 ng/mg and 2.69 ng/mg.Their medians were 0.40 ng/mg,0.19 ng/mg and 2.11 ng/mg.Conclusion The established method was simple, efficient, reliable and suitable for the determination of ketamine analogues in hair. The data provided reference for the drug control and forensic science practice.

RESUMO

Objective:To screen the independent influencing factors of restoration of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) in patients after cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and establish a predictive model, and explore its clinical value. Methods:A retrospective case control study was conducted. The clinical data of cardiac arrest patients admitted to the emergency department of Tangdu Hospital of Air Force Military Medical University and received CPR from January to July 2023 were analyzed, including general information, blood biochemical indicators, main cause of cardiac arrest, whether it was defibrillation rhythm, duration from admission to CPR, and whether ROSC was achieved. The clinical data between the patients whether achieved ROSC or not were compared. The binary multivariate Logistic regression analysis was used to screen the independent influencing factors of ROSC in in-hospital CPR patients. According to the above influencing factors, the ROSC prediction model was established, and the receiver operator characteristic curve (ROC curve) was drawn to evaluate the predictive value of the model for ROSC.Results:A total of 235 patients who received CPR in the emergency department were enrolled, including 153 cases (65.11%) of in-hospital CPR and 82 cases (34.89%) of out-of-hospital CPR. The ROSC ratio was 30.21% (71/235). Among all patients, the majority were aged 61-80 years [40.43% (95/235)], and cardiogenic disease was the main cause of cardiac arrest [32.77% (77/235)]. Among 153 patients with in-hospital CPR, 89 were non-ROSC and 64 were ROSC with ROSC rate of 41.83%. Compared with the non-ROSC group, the patients in the ROSC group had lower blood lactic acid (Lac), N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), Lac/albumin (Alb) ratio (LAR), and ratio of non-defibrillation rhythm [Lac (mmol/L): 5.50 (2.33, 9.65) vs. 7.10 (3.50, 13.35), NT-proBNP (μg/L): 0.87 (0.20, 8.68) vs. 3.00 (0.58, 20.17), LAR: 0.14 (0.07, 0.29) vs. 0.19 (0.10, 0.43), non-defibrillation rhythm ratio: 68.75% (44/64) vs. 93.26% (83/89)], higher actual base excess (ABE) and Alb [ABE (mmol/L): -3.95 (-12.75, 0.23) vs. -7.50 (-13.50, -3.35), Alb (g/L): 38.13±7.03 vs. 34.09±7.81], and shorter duration from admission to CPR [hours: 3.25 (1.00, 14.00) vs. 8.00 (2.00, 27.50)], the differences were statistically significant (all P < 0.05). Binary multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that LAR [odds ratio ( OR) = 0.037, 95% confidence interval (95% CI) was 0.005-0.287], non-defibrillation rhythm ( OR = 0.145, 95% CI was 0.049-0.426), and duration from admission to CPR ( OR = 0.984, 95% CI was 0.972-0.997) were independent influencing factors for ROSC in hospitalized CPR patients (all P < 0.05). Based on the above influencing factors, a ROSC prediction model was constructed through regression analysis results. The ROC curve analysis showed that the area under the ROC curve (AUC) for predicting ROSC in in-hospital CPR patients was 0.757 (95% CI was 0.680-0.834), Yoden index was 0.429, sensitivity was 76.6%, and specificity was 66.3%. Conclusions:LAR, non-defibrillation rhythm and duration from admission to CPR were independent influencing factors for ROSC in patients with in-hospital CPR. The ROSC prediction model established based on the above influencing factors has a good predictive value for ROSC of CPR patients in hospital, and can guide clinicians to evaluate the prognosis of patients through relevant indicators as early as possible.

RESUMO

In order to perform the multiple functions of disinfection, cleansing, and storage, preservatives are often added to contact lens care solutions. The disadvantage of adding preservatives is that this often causes various eye conditions. However, lens care solutions would not be able to disinfect in the absence of such preservatives. In addition, comfort is an important issue for contact lens wearers due to the long periods of time they are worn. It has been shown that lower friction coefficients are correlated with increased comfort. We have previously developed a multipurpose contact lens care solution in which poly-gamma-glutamic acid (γ-PGA) was the main ingredient. In this study, we investigated the antimicrobial activity and lubricating property of our care solution. We showed that there was a synergetic effect of γ-PGA and chlorine dioxide on antimicrobial activity. We also demonstrated that γ-PGA functioned as a lubricating agent. Our results provided evidence of γ-PGA acting as a multi-functional polymer that could be applied in contact lens care solutions.
