RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: The FDI criteria for the evaluation of direct and indirect dental restorations were first published in 2007 and updated in 2010. Meanwhile, their scientific use increased steadily, but several questions from users justified some clarification and improvement of the living document. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An expert panel (N = 10) initiated the revision and consensus process that included a kick-off workshop and multiple online meetings by using the Delphi method. During and after each round of discussion, all opinions were collected, and the aggregated summary was presented to the experts aiming to adjust the wording of the criteria as precisely as possible. Finally, the expert panel agreed on the revision. RESULTS: Some categories were redefined, ambiguities were cleared, and the descriptions of all scores were harmonized to cross-link different clinical situations with possible management strategies: reviewing/monitoring (score 1-4), refurbishment/reseal (score 3), repair (score 4), and replacement (score 5). Functional properties (domain F: fracture of material and retention, marginal adaptation, proximal contact, form and contour, occlusion and wear) were now placed at the beginning followed by biological (domain B: caries at restoration margin, hard tissue defects, postoperative hypersensitivity) and aesthetic characteristics (domain A: surface luster and texture, marginal staining, color match). CONCLUSION: The most frequently used eleven categories of the FDI criteria set were revised for better understanding and handling. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: The improved description and structuring of the criteria may help to standardize the evaluation of direct and indirect restorations and may enhance their acceptance by researchers, teachers, and dental practitioners.

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this in vitro reliability study was to determine the intra- and inter-examiner agreement of the revised FDI criteria including the categories "fracture of material and retention" (F1) and "caries at restoration margin" (B1). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty-nine photographs of direct tooth-coloured posterior (n = 25) and anterior (n = 24) restorations with common deficiencies were included. Ten dental experts repeated the assessment in three blinded rounds. Later, the experts re-evaluated together all photographs and agreed on a reference standard. Statistical analysis included the calculation of Cohen's (Cκ), Fleiss' (Fκ), and weighted Kappa (wκ), the development of a logistic regression with a backward elimination model and Bland/Altman plots. RESULTS: Intra- and inter-examiner reliability exhibited mostly moderate to substantial Cκ, Fκ, and wκ values for posterior restorations (e.g. Intra: F1 Cκ = 0.57, wκ = 0.74; B1 Cκ = 0.57, wκ = 0.73/Inter F1 Fκ = 0.32, wκ = 0.53; B1 Fκ = 0.41, wκ = 0.64) and anterior restorations (e.g. Intra F1 Cκ = 0.63, wκ = 0.76; B1 Cκ = 0.48, wκ = 0.68/Inter F1 Fκ = 0.42, wκ = 0.57; B1 Fκ = 0.40, wκ = 0.51). Logistic regression analyses revealed significant differences between the evaluation rounds, examiners, categories, and tooth type. Both the intra- and inter-examiner reliability increased along with the evaluation rounds. The overall agreement was higher for anterior restorations compared to posterior restorations. CONCLUSIONS: The overall reliability of the revised FDI criteria set was found to be moderate to substantial. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: If properly trained, the revised FDI criteria set are a valid tool to evaluate direct and indirect restorations in a standardized way. However, training and calibration are needed to ensure reliable application.

OBJECTIVES: Currently, a classification of resin cements that includes relatively recently formulated ("universal") cements is lacking. Furthermore, the terminology used to define different resin cements in the scientific reports is inconsistent. Accordingly, this work aims to: (i) propose a novel classification of resin composite cements; (ii) disambiguate the term "universal cements" and (iii) present an overview of the properties of these cements. METHODS: An analysis of peer-reviewed literature (PubMed search), as well as market research on definitive resin composite cements were performed. RESULTS: A tendency toward simplified and versatile luting materials was observed both in the scientific literature and on the dental market with the advent of self-adhesive/one-step resin cements. However, additional priming procedures were necessary to improve their bonding performance in certain clinical situations. Hence, several cements that can be applied both in adhesive and self-adhesive mode were introduced. These cements are associated with a universal adhesive resin, that can be used as a tooth and/or restorative material primer, without the need for other priming systems, regardless of the substrate. These systems should be considered truly universal. Therefore, we hereby suggested a new classification of resin-based cements: (1) adhesive/multi-step; (2) self-adhesive/one-step; (3) universal cements (one- or multi-step). Despite promising in vitro results, clinical trials and long-track laboratory studies are necessary to confirm the reliability of the universal cements. CONCLUSIONS: This review presented the current advances in the field of resin-based cements, which are reflected in the proposed classification. The term "universal cement" was disambiguated, which will help standardize the terminology used in published research. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The classification of resin-based cements and a better understanding of the proper terminology will help standardize the terminology in published research, as well as improve the understanding of the clinical practitioners of the different indications and possible modalities of use of the available cements.

BACKGROUND: To investigate the effect of 0.3 M 1-ethyl-3(3-dimethylaminopropyl) carbodiimide (EDC) aqueous solution pretreatment on push-out bond strength (PBS) and matrix-metalloproteinases (MMPs) activity within radicular dentin when different post cementation strategies were employed. METHODS: One hundred and twenty monoradicular human teeth were endodontically treated and randomly divided into six groups, depending on the cementation strategy and root dentin pretreatment (n = 20): EAR: cementation with an etch-and-rinse adhesive (LuxaBond Total Etch, DMG) and resin cement (LuxaCore Z Dual, DMG); EAR/EDC: 1 min EDC pretreatment after etching + EAR; SE: cementation with a self-etch primer (Multilink Primer, Ivoclar Vivadent) and corresponding cement (Multilink Automix, Ivoclar Vivadent); SE/EDC: self-etch primer + EDC pretreatment + SE; SA: cementation with a universal self-adhesive cement (RelyX Universal, 3 M); SA/EDC: EDC pretreatment + SA. Slices were submitted to PBS test and interfacial nanoleakage evaluation 24 h after cementation or after thermocycling (40.000 cycles, 5-55 °C). To investigate the effect of EDC on MMPs activity, 4 additional first maxillary premolars per group were processed for in situ zymography analysis. Multivariate ANOVA and post hoc Tukey tests were used to analyze PBS values. The data from in situ zymography were analyzed with Kruskal-Wallis test and Dunn's pairwise multiple comparison procedures (α = 0.05). RESULTS: The variables "EDC pretreatment", "root region" and "thermocycling" significantly influenced PBS (p < 0.05), while the variable "cementation strategy" had no influence (p > 0.05). Thermocycling significantly reduced PBS in SE and SA groups (p < 0.05). EDC was effective in preserving PBS after artificial aging. EDC pretreatment significantly reduced enzymatic activity at baseline in EAR and SE groups, and in SA group after thermocycling (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The use of EDC prevents the reduction of bond-strength values after artificial aging and silences endogenous enzymatic activity within radicular dentin when different cementation strategies were employed.

BACKGROUND: Work-related musculoskeletal (MS) disorders are very common among dentists due to abnormal positions maintained during their work. There is the need to teach undergraduate students ergonomic procedures to prevent MS pain and disorders. METHODS: All the students of the School of Dentistry at the University of Trieste were enrolled for the study (No. 55). A self-administered questionnaire was used to collect anthropometric information, previous or current diseases, MS pain and disorders and work tasks performed. All students attended a training course. Three months after the training they completed a follow-up questionnaire. RESULTS: All students reported MS pain: higher at cervical level (91%), lower at lumbosacral level (64.2%), shoulders (43.6%), and wrist/hand level (41.8%). Forty-nine percent of students reported an improvement in pain symptoms (p<0.05) 3 months after the training. CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of pain symptoms was high but the training course helped reduce symptoms. Theory and practice of ergonomics should be incorporated into dental undergraduate curricula.

PURPOSE: To examine the effect of CHX pre-treatment on long-term bond strength of fiber posts luted with self-adhesive resin cements. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Seventy-two single-rooted teeth were selected for root canal treatment and post space preparation. The tested self-adhesive cement/post combinations were (N = 36): 1. RelyX Fiber-Posts luted with RelyX Unicem; 2. Rebilda Posts luted with Bifix SE Cement. For both self-adhesive cements, half of the specimens (experimental groups) were luted after the application of a solution of 2% CHX, while no CHX application was performed for the remaining specimens (control groups). Luted specimens were cut and used for push-out bond strength evaluation immediately, and after storage in artificial saliva for 6 months or 1 year. Additional specimens were processed for quantitative interfacial nanoleakage analysis. RESULTS: ANOVA showed that the variable times of storage had a significant influence on the results (p < 0.05), while no influence of the luting procedure (cements with or without CHX) on the final outcome (p > 0.05) was found. Tukey's pairwise post-hoc test showed that the radicular bond strength decreased with time of storage. In particular, a significant difference was found between T0 and T1y, but not between T0 and T6m. In contrast, in terms of pretreatment, no significant reduction in push-out bond strength was observed, irrespective of the aging time. CONCLUSION: CHX pretreatment did not prevent bond strength degradation of fiber posts luted with self-adhesive cements.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the effect of cervical margin relocation (CMR) for crowns designed using CAD/CAM technology, and made of pre-cured resin or lithium disilicate, before and after thermomechanical loading. The test hypothesis was that the marginal quality of the crowns would not be influenced by the CMR with composite resins before or after thermomechanical loading. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Standard crown preparations were created in 40 human molars. The margins were located in enamel, except for the mesial proximal box, where the cervical margin was 2.0 mm below the cementoenamel junction, with 4.0 mm in the buccolingual and 2.0 mm in the mesiodistal dimension. For the CMR technique, a 2-mm layer of conventional or flowable composite resin was applied to the mesial box. Using the Cerec CAD/CAM system, 40 standard crowns were prepared, and restorations were luted using a dual-curing adhesive cement. SEM analysis was performed using epoxy resin replicas before and after loading to assess the marginal quality of interfaces of the mesial proximal box with CMR/crown and the distal face of the tooth without CMR. Statistical differences between groups were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test and Bonferroni's post-hoc test. RESULTS: The null hypothesis was accepted, since no statistically significant differences were found in marginal quality before and after thermomechanical cycling (p > 0.05). CONCLUSION: The implementation of CMR before and after thermomechanical cycling had no effect on the quality of cervical margins. To establish whether CMR is a suitable procedure for the adhesive luting of composite resin crowns in deep proximal boxes, additional studies are required.

This study aimed at investigating the effect of a methacrylate-modified chitosan on the durability of adhesive interfaces to improve the clinical performance of dental restorations. Chitosan was modified with methacrylic acid (Chit-MA70) on 16% of the amino groups. Viscosity, rheology, and (1)H NMR spectroscopy were performed to characterize the modified polysaccharide. Chit-MA70 was blended into a primer of an "etch-and-rinse" experimental adhesive system and tested on human teeth. The presence of methacrylate moieties and of residual positive charges on the polysaccharide chain allowed Chit-MA70 to covalently bind to the restorative material and electrostatically interact with demineralized dentin. The Chit-MA70 containing an adhesive system showed values of the immediate bond strength (26.0 ± 8.7 MPa) comparable to the control adhesive system (25.5 ± 8.7 MPa). However, it was shown that upon performing thermo-mechanical cycling treatment of the dental restoration on human teeth, the adhesive with the methacrylate-modified chitosan, in variance with the control adhesive, did not show any decrease in the bond strength (28.4 ± 8.8 MPa). The modified chitosan is proposed as a component of the "etch-and-rinse" adhesive system to efficiently improve the durability of dental restorations.

Bruxism is a worldwide oral health problem. Although there is a consensus about its multifactorial nature, its precise etiopathogenetic mechanisms are unclear. This study, taking advantage of a deeply characterized cohort of 769 individuals (aged 6-89 years) coming from Northern Italy's genetically isolated populations, aims to epidemiologically describe environmental risk factors for bruxism development and identify genes potentially involved through a Genome-Wide Association Study (GWAS) approach. Logistic mixed models adjusted for age and sex were performed to evaluate associations between bruxism and possible risk factors, e.g., anxiety, smoking, and alcohol and caffeine intake. A case-control GWAS (135 cases, 523 controls), adjusted for age, sex, and anxiety, was conducted to identify new candidate genes. The GTEx data analysis was performed to evaluate the identified gene expression in human body tissues. Statistical analyses determined anxiety as a bruxism risk factor (OR = 2.54; 95% CI: 1.20-5.38; p-value = 0.015), and GWAS highlighted three novel genes potentially associated with bruxism: NLGN1 (topSNP = rs2046718; p-value = 2.63 × 10-7), RIMBP2 (topSNP = rs571497947; p-value = 4.68 × 10-7), and LHFP (topSNP = rs2324342; p-value = 7.47 × 10-6). The GTEx data analysis showed their expression in brain tissues. Overall, this work provided a deeper understanding of bruxism etiopathogenesis with the long-term perspective of developing personalized therapeutic approaches for improving affected individuals' quality of life.

The aim of this study was to evaluate microtensile bond strength (µTBS) to dentine, interfacial nanoleakage expression, and stability after ageing, of two-step vs. one-step self-etch adhesives. Human molars were cut to expose middle/deep dentine, assigned to groups (n = 15), and treated with the following bonding systems: (i) Optibond XTR (a two-step self-etch adhesive; Kerr), (ii) Clearfil SE Bond (a two-step self-etch adhesive; Kuraray), (iii) Adper Easy Bond (a one-step self-etch adhesive; 3M ESPE), and (iv) Bond Force (a one-step self-etch adhesive; Tokuyama). Specimens were processed for µTBS testing after 24 h, 6 months, or 1 yr of storage in artificial saliva at 37°C. Nanoleakage expression was examined in similarly processed additional specimens. At baseline the µTBS results ranked in the following order: Adper Easy Bond = Optibond XTR ≥Clearfil SE = Bond Force, and interfacial nanoleakage analysis showed Clearfil SE Bond = Adper Easy Bond = Optibond XTR> Bond Force. After 1 yr of storage, Optibond XTR, Clearfil SE Bond, and Adper Easy Bond showed higher µTBS and lower interfacial nanoleakage expression compared with Bond Force. In conclusion, immediate bond strength, nanoleakage expression, and stability over time were not related to the number of steps of the bonding systems, but to their chemical formulations.

PURPOSE: To examine the bond strength and interfacial nanoleakage expression of fiber posts luted to intraradicular dentin with self-adhesive cements. Six-month and 1-year aging effects were examined. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Post space was created in endodontically treated human incisors. Each tooth was assigned to a self-adhesive cement/post combination: (1) Bifix SE Cement (Voco) with proprietary posts (Rebilda Post, Voco), (2) RelyX Unicem (3M ESPE) with proprietary posts (Rely X Fiber Post, 3M ESPE), (3) MaxCem (Kerr) with Rebilda Posts. Each specimen was cut into 1-mm-thick sections and either immediately stressed to failure with the push-out bond strength test or aged in artificial saliva for 6 months or 1 year before testing. Additional specimens were processed for quantitative interfacial nanoleakage analysis using ammoniacal silver nitrate. RESULTS: Immediate bond strength ranked in the following order: Bifix SE (7.8 ± 2.9 MPa) = RelyX Unicem (8.4 ± 2.7 MPa) > MaxCem (4.6 ± 2.4 MPa) (p < 0.05). Aging significantly reduced the bond strength of all cements after 1 year: Bifix SE (3.8 ± 1.4 MPa) = RelyX Unicem (5.8 ± 1.7 MPa) > MaxCem (1.3 ± 0.9 MPa; p<0.05). No immediate difference in interfacial nanoleakage expression was found. Nanoleakage increased after aging, and MaxCem showed the highest values. CONCLUSION: The push-out strength and interfacial nanoleakage expression of fiber posts luted with self-adhesive cements were dependent on luting material and type of post, and were significantly affected by storage time.

Malocclusions and temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) are oral health problems that are spread worldwide. To date, few studies focused on their prevalence and associated risk factors are available. This study aims to define the prevalence and distribution of odontostomatological traits and evaluate specific risk factors in isolated villages in north-eastern Italy, taking advantage of their environmental homogeneity. Nine hundred and forty-four participants aged six to eighty-nine years were enrolled. Thirty-one odontostomatological phenotypes, classified into five domains (airways, bad habits, extraoral and intraoral parameters, TMDs, and teeth), were evaluated. A descriptive statistical analysis was performed; mixed logistic models were used to test the relationships among the traits. According to the study's findings, Angle's class I was prevalent (65.3%) followed by class II malocclusion (24.3%); class III and reversed overjet were the least frequent malocclusions (10.4% and 1.8%, respectively). Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) click/noise was prevalent among TMDs (34.7%). The statistically significant (p-value < 0.05) risk factors were ankyloglossia for phonetic issues (OR 1.90) and bruxism for TMJ click/noise (OR 1.70) and pain (OR 2.20). Overall, this work provides a picture of the prevalence of malocclusions and TMDs in a large Italian sample and reveals risk factors to take into account in the development of preventive strategies and treatments.

PURPOSE: To assess the degree of conversion (DC) at different levels of a resin-based luting agent used with different commercial posts. METHODS: A resin-based luting agent (Variolink II) was light-cured in a simulated dowel space in combination with different fiber posts: GC Fiber Post (GC), DT Light Safety Lock (SL), RelyX Fiber Post (RX), Reforpost (RE), DT Light Post Illusion (LPI), FRC Postec Plus (FP), Radix (RA), Snowpost (SP), Dentin Post X (DP), Macrolock Illusion (MI), and Composipost (CP). After 24 hours, DC was assessed through micro-Raman analysis at the coronal, middle, and apical thirds. Two-way ANOVA and Tukey test were used for post-hoc comparisons (P<0.05). RESULTS: The results demonstrated that the post-type, dowel space level, and between-factor interaction were statistically significant (P<0.001). Differences in DC were observed at different depths for RX, RE, LPI, SL, DP, MI and CP, decreasing from the coronal to the apical third. Although the resin-based luting agent should be able to polymerize in absence of light, a higher DC was found following light irradiation (with a decreasing effect from the coronal to the apical third).

The latest advancements in dentin bonding have focused on strategies to impair degradation mechanisms in order to extend the longevity of bonded interfaces. Protease inhibitors can reduce collagen degradation within the hybrid layer (HL). Collagen cross-linkers allow better adhesive infiltration and also inhibit proteases activity. Particles added to adhesive can promote mineral precipitation within the HL, reducing nanoleakage and micropermeability, besides possible antimicrobial and enzymatic inhibition effects. Most of these approaches are still experimental, and aspects of the adhesive under the clinician's control are still determinant for the long-term stability of adhesive restorations.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate resin infiltration (RI) technique's effects on the in vivo functional treatment of molar hypomineralization (MH)-affected permanent first molars (PFMs). Methods: Fifteen MH-affected PFMs were resin-infiltrated and evaluated for a three-month follow-up (FU). In vivo resin replicas were used for profilometric and scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis of PFM surfaces; any variation of clinical aspect and dentin hypersensitivity was registered as: T0 equals baseline; T1 equals right after treatment; T2 equals oneweek follow-up; and T3, T4, and T5 equal one-, two-, and three-month FU. Results: At T0, MH-affected surfaces were rougher and more irregular than sound ones; at T1, resin-infiltrated surfaces were smoother while a progressive increase of superficial roughness was observed over time. Hypersensitivity improved at T1 and remained stable over time in severe MH cases. Conclusions: Resin infiltration seems to be a promising treatment, especially in managing severe molar hypomineralization cases for the evaluated follow-up.

Resin infiltration is a conservative treatment of initial enamel carious lesions. Only one infiltrant material is available on the market (Icon, DMG), and research is now investigating new chemical compositions so as to further exploit the benefits of the resin infiltration technique. A literature search of the articles testing the effects of different formulations on mechanical properties, resin penetration ability, remineralizing, and antibacterial activities was conducted. Of 238 articles, 29 resulted in being eligible for the literature review. The formulations investigated were all different and consisted in the inclusion of hydrophobic monomers (i.e., BisEMA, UDMA), solvents (ethanol, HEMA), alternative etchants (PAM) or molecules with antibacterial or bioactivity features (i.e., AgNP, YbF3, MTZ, chitosan, DMAMM, HAp, MC-IL, NACP, PUA, CHX) and microfilled resins. Information on the long-term performances of the tested experimental materials were scarce. The combination of TEGDMA with hydrophobic monomers and the inclusion of a solvent alternative to ethanol reinforced mechanical properties of the materials. Hybrid-glass materials demonstrated an enhanced remineralization capacity. Techniques such as tunnelization increased the penetration depth and preserved the recourse to less-conservative treatments. Combining the min-invasive infiltrant approach with remineralizing and bacteriostatic properties would be beneficial for therapeutic and economical aspects, according to the principles of minimally invasive dentistry.

The aim of this study was to measure the contraction stress of three flowable resin composites and to correlate the stress with the elastic modulus and the degree of conversion. One low-shrinkage (Venus Diamond Flow) and two conventional (Tetric EvoFlow and X-Flow) flowable composites were polymerized for 40s with a light-emitting diode (LED) curing unit. Contraction force was continuously recorded for 300s using a stress-analyser, and stress values were calculated at 40s and at 300s. The maximum stress rate was also calculated for each specimen. The elastic modulus of each composite was assayed using a biaxial flexural test, and degree of conversion was analysed with Raman spectroscopy. X-Flow exhibited higher stress values than the other tested materials. Venus Diamond Flow showed the lowest stress values at 40s and at 300s, and the lowest maximum stress rate. Stress values were correlated with elastic modulus but not with degree of conversion, which was comparable among all tested materials.

Nine antibacterial di-methacrylate monomers based on bis-quaternary ammonium salts (bis-QAMs) were synthesized and structurally characterized. The biological activity of the bis-QAMs was tested in terms of minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) on different bacterial strains achieving promising results and, in most cases, a complete bactericidal effect using a bis-QAM concentration lower than 1 mg/mL. Two of the structures showed comparable and superior activity against S. mutans than the commercial monomer 12-methacryloyloxydodecyl pyridinium bromide (MDBP). All the bis-QAMs here described were able to inhibit S. mutans biofilm formation at a concentration equal to the MIC value. From the analysis of the obtained data, some correlation regarding the structure and the antibacterial activity of the bis-QAMs could be drawn: a flexible alkyl C12 spacer between the two quaternary ammonium moieties increased the monomer antibacterial effect in comparison to the aromatic ones; the equilibrium between hydrophobic and hydrophilic moieties was directly correlated to the bactericidal range of action; the increase of the steric hindrance of the ammonium side groups might be both advantageous or disadvantageous to the antibacterial efficacy depending on the whole monomer chemical structure. Even though the possible correlation between the monomer structures and their bacteriostatic or bactericidal effect is under investigation, the monomers exhibited low cytotoxicity on human dental pulp stem cells, confirming their promising potential in the dental materials' field. STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: The use of dental resins with antibacterial monomers might prevent the formation of secondary caries at the restoration margins. For this purpose, a series of di-methacrylate bis-quaternary ammonium monomers (QAMs) was developed. Unlike antibacterial mono-methacrylate monomers already described in the literature, the synthesized di-methacrylate monomers have the potential of acting as cross-linkers stabilizing the polymeric network and bear two quaternary ammonium groups that increase their antibacterial ability. The QAMs exert bactericidal activity on both Gram(+) and Gram(-) bacterial strains maintaining at the same time good biocompatibility with the oral environment. Some structural elements of the monomers were clearly related to high antibacterial properties, and this can help design new active structures and better understand their mechanism of action.

This in vitro study aimed to evaluate the influence of curing time on surface characteristics and microbiological behavior of three bulk-fill resin-based composites (RBCs). Materials were light-cured for either 10 s or 80 s, then finished using a standard clinical procedure. They were characterized by surface morphology (SEM), surface elemental composition (EDS), surface roughness (SR), and surface free energy (SFE). Microbiological behavior was assessed as S. mutans adherence (2 h) and biofilm formation (24 h) using a continuous-flow bioreactor. Statistical analysis included a two-way ANOVA and Tukey's test (p < 0.05). Materials differed substantially as filler shape, dimension, elemental composition and resin matrix composition. Significant differences between materials were found for SR, SFE, and microbiological behavior. Such differences were less pronounced or disappeared after prolonged photocuring. The latter yielded significantly lower adherence and biofilm formation on all tested materials, similar to conventional RBCs. Improved photoinitiators and UDMA-based resin matrix composition may explain these results. No correlation between surface characteristics and microbiological behavior can explain the similar microbiological behavior of bulk-fill materials after prolonged photocuring. This different performance of bulk-fill materials compared with conventional RBCs, where surface characteristics, especially surface chemistry, influence microbiological behavior, may have important implications for secondary caries occurrence and restoration longevity.
