RESUMO

Quasi-one-dimensional materials are usually characterized by optical response spectroscopy methods, which show significant polarization dependence. Herein, we report a systematical investigation of polarized Raman scattering on the (110) crystal surface of the layered (TaSe4)2I compound. Taking into account group theory analysis of the crystal structure and the Raman tensor transformation technique, the vibrational mode of the Raman peaks can be differentiated by the angular dependence of the Raman peak intensity in parallel and vertical polarization Raman scattering tests. Moreover, density functional perturbation theory (DFPT) calculation confirmed the form of the Raman tensor of the (110) crystal surface, which was consistent with the result of the Raman tensor transformation technique, and the Raman spectrum and phonon dispersion curve calculations were also performed based on the Vienna ab initio simulation package (VASP). This new method provides useful insight for accurately identifying the lattice vibration behavior in new 2D layered structures.

RESUMO

AIM: To explore the diagnostic value of multimodal imaging techniques, including automatic breast volume scanner (ABVS), mammography (MG), and magnetic resonance (MRI) in breast sclerosing adenosis (SA) associated with malignant lesions. METHODS: From January 2018 to October 2020, 76 patients (88 lesions) with pathologically confirmed as SA associated with malignant or benign lesions were retrospective analyzed. All patients completed ABVS examination, 58 patients (67 lesions) with MG and 50 patients (62 lesions) with MRI were also completed before biopsy or surgical excision, of which, six patients (eight lesions) diagnosed as Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) category 3 by all imaging examinations underwent surgical excision without biopsy, other 70 patients (80 lesions) with BI-RADS category 4 or above by any imaging examination completed biopsy, including 65 patients (75 lesions) were further surgical excised and the other five patients (five lesions) were just followed up. All lesions were retrospectively described and classified, and were divided into benign group and malignant group according to their pathological results. Image features of different examination methods between the two groups were compared and analyzed. A ROC curve was established using the sensitivity of BI-RADS categories to predict malignant lesions in different imaging techniques as the ordinate and 1-specificity as the abscissa. RESULTS: 88 lesions including 26 purely SA and 45 SA associated with benign lesions were classified as benign group, and the remaining 17 SA associated with malignant lesions were classified as malignant group. On ABVS, 40 mass lesions, their heterogeneous echo, not circumscribed margin and coronal convergence signs were statistically significant for malignant lesions (p < .05), but the remain 48 nonmass lesions lack specific sonographic features. On MG, 12 showed negative results, 55 showed with microcalcification, mass, structural distortion, and asymmetric density shadow, of which 11 lesions had the above two signs at the same time, but only microcalcification had statistical difference between the two groups. 35 mass enhanced lesions and 27 nonmass enhanced lesions on MRI, but there were no significant difference between their pathological results. Time signal intensity curves showed no differences, but ADC value <1.10 × 10-3  mm2 /s is more significant in malignant lesions (p < .05). The area under the ROC curve (AUC) of BI-RADS classification of ABVS, MG, and MRI in the diagnosis of malignant lesions were 0.611, 0.474, and 0.751, respectively, and the AUC of the combined diagnosis of the three was 0.761. CONCLUSION: Mass lesions with heterogeneous echo, not circumscribed margin and coronal convergence sign on ABVS, microcalcification on MG and the ADC value <1.10 × 10-3  mm2 /s on MRI are significant signs for SA associated with malignant lesions. The combined diagnosis of the three methods was the highest, and the following were MRI, ABVS, and MG. Therefore, be cognizant of significant characteristics in SA associated with malignancy showed in different imaging examinations can improve the preoperative evaluation of SA and better provide basis for subsequent clinical decision-making.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To compare an autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) model with a model that combines ARIMA with the Elman recurrent neural network (ARIMA-ERNN) in predicting the incidence of pertussis in mainland China. BACKGROUND: The incidence of pertussis has increased rapidly in mainland China since 2016, making the disease an increasing public health threat. There is a pressing need for models capable of accurately predicting the incidence of pertussis in order to guide prevention and control measures. We developed and compared two models for predicting pertussis incidence in mainland China. METHODS: Data on the incidence of pertussis in mainland China from 2004 to 2019 were obtained from the official website of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention. An ARIMA model was established using SAS (ver. 9.4) software and an ARIMA-ERNN model was established using MATLAB (ver. R2019a) software. The performances of these models were compared. RESULTS: From 2004 to 2019, there were 104,837 reported cases of pertussis in mainland China, with an increasing incidence over time. The incidence of pertussis showed obvious seasonal characteristics, with the peak lasting from March to September every year. Compared with the mean squared error (MSE), mean absolute error (MAE), and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) of the ARIMA model, those of the ARIMA-ERNN model were 81.43%, 95.97% and 80.86% lower, respectively, in fitting performance. In terms of prediction performance, the MAE, MSE and MAPE were 37.75%, 56.88% and 43.75% lower, respectively. CONCLUSION: The fitting and prediction performances of the ARIMA-ERNN model were better than those of the ARIMA model. This provides theoretical support for the prediction of infectious diseases and should be beneficial to public health decision making.

RESUMO

A surprisingly large number of lottery prizes go unclaimed every year. This leads us to suspect that what people bet on is not only money, but also good mood. We conducted three studies to explain, from an emotional perspective, why people play lottery games. We first conducted two survey studies to assess mood state reported by online (Study 1a) and offline lottery buyers (Study 1b) at different stages of lottery play. The results revealed that participants' highest mood appeared before knowing whether they had won. In Study 2, we manipulated the means of reward (lottery tickets vs. cash) and compared participants' mood changes at different stages of a rewards game in the laboratory. We found the following: first, lottery group participants were generally in a better mood; second, 42% of lottery group participants did not come to the laboratory to collect scratch cards; and third, lottery group participants took more time to return to the laboratory to check their tickets than participants in the cash group. In Study 3, we examined whether priming good or bad mood could influence participants' preferences for cash versus lottery tickets. The results revealed that participants who were primed for poor mood had a higher preference for lottery tickets compared with their good mood counterparts. These findings suggest that what our participants sought in lottery play was not only money, but improved mood.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The risk factors for stroke in elderly patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) are not well understood. This study aimed to explore the influence of systolic blood pressure (SBP) on the risk of stroke in a large cohort of elderly patients with stage 3-5 CKD. METHODS: We retrospectively identified 665 patients hospitalized in Beijing Friendship Hospital from January 2000 to December 2021. Patients were followed up until the occurrence of stroke or death. Multivariate logistic regression analysis and Cox proportional hazard models were used to analyze the risk factors for stroke according to the presence or absence of CKD. The association between CKD and stroke was further evaluated regarding the role of SBP in the hypertensive population. RESULTS: In individuals with CKD, a J-shaped relationship was observed between SBP levels and the risk of stroke. Participants with CKD and an SBP less than 125 mmHg had a significantly higher cumulative stroke survival rate than those whose SBP was between 125 and 139 mmHg. The cumulative stroke survival rate increased progressively for those with SBP higher than 140 mmHg. This J-shaped relationship was not found in patients without CKD. CONCLUSION: In elderly patients with CKD, those with the lowest BP are at increased risk for incident stroke. This phenomenon could be different from that in the general population.

RESUMO

Acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) is a syndrome characterized by acute decompensation of chronic liver disease associated with high bacterial infection (BI) and short-term mortality. However, many ACLF prognostic predictive modelsare complicated. The aim of this study is to develop prognostic models for ACLF patients to predict BI and mortality. We retrospective recruited 263 patients with ACLF from Shandong Provincial Hospital and Taizhou Enze Medical Center (Group) Enze Hospital. ACLF was defined according to the Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL) criteria. Multivariable logistic regression was used to derive prediction models for occurring BI and 28-day mortality in ACLF patients. Ninety seven of 263 patients (37%) occurred BI and 41 of 155 (26%) died within 28 days of admission. C-reactive protein (CRP), glucose, and albumin were the independent predictors for occurring BI during the hospital stay. We also found that hepatic encephalopathy (HE), prothrombin time, activated partial thromboplastin time (APRI), and glucose were the independent predictors of 28-day mortality of ACLF patients. Using logistic regression model, we generated a new modified MELD model (M-MELD) by incorporating HE, APRI, and glucose. AUC of M-MELD model was 0.871, which were significantly higher than MELD score (AUC:0.734), MELD-Na score (AUC:0.742), and integrated MELD score (iMELD) (AUC:0.761). HE, MELD score, APRI, and blood glucose were independent risk factors for 28-day mortality of ACLF patients. The modified MELD model (M-MELD) by incorporating HE, APRI, and glucose has better discriminative performances compared with MELD in predicting 28-day mortality.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Matrix metalloproteinases-9 (MMP-9) can regulate extracellular matrix deposition in diabetic glomerular injury. However, it remains unknown whether MMP-9 is involved in the renal tubular injury. Meanwhile, neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), defined as a biomarker of proximal tubular injury, may influence MMP-9 by forming the MMP-9/NGAL complex. The aim of this study was to investigate MMP-9 expression in proximal renal tubules and the relationship of MMP-9 and NGAL in diabetic rat model treated with Valsartan. METHODS: Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into three groups: Diabetic group, Control group, and Treated group. The diabetic rat model was established by injection of streptozotocin. Related indexes were measured at the end of the 2nd, 4th, 8th and 12th week post-modeling. RESULTS: In diabetic groups, the concentrations of MMP-9 markedly increased in the serum and urine of rats in the early stage, even before the appearance of pathological albuminuria. Markedly elevated MMP-9/NGAL complex concentrations were also tested in diabetic groups. Western blot and qPCR tests confirmed that MMP-9 expression levels in the proximal renal tubular epithelial cells of diabetic rats were significantly higher than in control groups (P < 0.05). Correlation analysis showed that MMP-9 was positively correlated with NGAL at both protein and gene expression levels. In addition, Valsartan observably reduced tubular injury as well as MMP-9 expression in diabetic rats. CONCLUSIONS: In diabetic kidney injury, the expression of MMP-9 in the proximal renal tubular epithelial cells was significantly increased. Besides, a positive correlation was found between MMP-9 and NGAL expression, along with high levels of MMP-9/NGAL complex, which indicated that NGAL might participate in the regulation of MMP-9 expression. The administration of Valsartan may reduce this effect.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Enterovirus71 (EV71), the major cause of hand, foot, and-mouth disease (HFMD), has increasingly become a public health challenge. Type I interferons (IFNs) can regulate innate and adaptive immune responses to pathogens. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play regulatory roles in host innate immune responses to viral infections. However, the roles of miR-103 and miR-107 in EV71 infection remain unclear. METHODS: Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was employed to determine the expression of miR-103, miR-107, suppressor of cytokine signaling 3 (SOCS3), VP1, IFN-α, and IFN-ß. Virus titers were measured by 50% tissue culture infectious dose (TCID50) assay. Western blot assay was conducted to detect the protein levels of VP1, IFN-α, IFN-ß, SOCS3, signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3), and phospho-STAT3 (p-STAT3). Immunofluorescence assay was used to detect the protein level of VP1. The concentrations of IFN-α and IFN-ß were examined by Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The interaction between SOCS3 and miR-103/miR-107 was predicted by starBase and verified by dual-luciferase reporter assay and RNA pull-down assay. RESULTS: MiR-103 and miR-107 were downregulated and SOCS3 was upregulated in serum from patients with EV71 and EV71-infected cells. Overexpression of miR-103 and miR-107 repressed EV71 replication by inhibiting EV71 titers and VP1 expression. Moreover, upregulation of miR-103 and miR-107 enhanced EV71-triggered the production of type I IFNs. In addition, miR-103 and miR-107 directly targeted SOCS3, and SOCS3 upregulation reversed the effects of miR-103 and miR-107 on EV71 replication and type I IFN response. Importantly, miR-103 and miR-107 increased STAT3 phosphorylation by targeting SOCS3 after EV71 infection. CONCLUSION: MiR-103 and miR-107 suppressed EV71 replication and increased the production of type I IFNs by regulating SOCS3/STAT3 pathway, which might provide a novel strategy for developing effective antiviral therapy.

RESUMO

Consumption of food high in fructose is prevalent in modern diets. One week of moderately high fructose intake combined with high salt diet has been shown to increase blood pressure and failed to suppress plasma renin activity (PRA). We tested the hypothesis that the hypertension and high PRA are consequences of elevated renal sympathetic nerve activity (RSNA). In protocol 1, we assessed RSNA by telemetry in conscious Sprague-Dawley rats given 20% fructose or 20% glucose in drinking water on a 0.4% NaCl diet (NS) for 1 wk and then transitioned to a 4% NaCl diet (HS). After an additional week, mean arterial pressure (MAP) and RSNA increased significantly in fructose-fed but not glucose-fed HS rats. In protocol 2, fructose (Fruc)- or glucose (Glu)-fed rats on NS or HS diet for 3 wk underwent sham denervation (shamDNX) or bilateral renal denervation using cryoablation (cryoDNX). MAP was higher in Fruc-HS rats compared with Glu-NS, Glu-HS, or Fruc-NS rats and decreased after cryoDNX ( P < 0.01). MAP did not change in Fruc-HS shamDNX rats. Renal norepinephrine content decreased by 85% in cryoDNX ( P < 0.01 vs. shamDNX). PRA significantly decreased after cryoDNX in both Fruc-NS and Fruc-HS rats. Nonfasting blood glucose levels were similar among the four groups. Glucose-to-insulin ratio significantly increased in Fruc-HS cryoDNX rats, consistent with greater insulin sensitivity. Taken together, these studies show that renal sympathoexcitation is, at least in part, responsible for salt-dependent increases in MAP, increased PRA, and decreased insulin sensitivity in rats fed a moderately high fructose diet for as little as 3 wk.

RESUMO

A room-temperature ferromagnetic behavior was observed in a ternary layered-Cu2MoS4 nanosheet. Both the coercivity and magnetization saturation increased with a decrease in temperature. The electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy confirmed a high g value. Combined with atomic structural observations, our first principle calculations revealed that the ferromagnetism originated from the edged molybdenum atoms.

RESUMO

Due to great challenges resulting from China's rapid population aging, Chinese elders are mobilized to address problems caused by this demographic trend through civic engagement. Based on an integrative review of policy, research, and practice, this article reveals that today's Chinese elders have a higher level and wider scope of civic engagement than previous cohorts. A set of factors contributing to such improvement are further identified, including the reform of the national economy, transformation of governmental functions, and the use of effective strategies applied to concrete programs. However, several constraints limiting Chinese elders' equal, active engagement in civic life remain, including the social stratification of older adults, preferential selection of participants due to the nation's socioeconomic development strategy, and family care work competing with other types of civic activities. Finally, future directions for policy, research, and practice are proposed in order to increase Chinese elders' civic engagement.

RESUMO

Renal artery stenosis is increasing in prevalence. Angioplasty plus stenting has not proven to be better than medical management. There has been a reluctance to use available denervation methodologies in this condition. We studied conscious, chronically instrumented, two-kidney, one-clip (2K-1C) Goldblatt rats, a model of renovascular hypertension, to test the hypothesis that renal denervation by cryoablation (cryo-DNX) of the renal nerve to the clipped kidney decreases mean arterial pressure (MAP), plasma and tissue ANG II, and contralateral renal sympathetic nerve activity (RSNA). Five-week-old male Sprague-Dawley rats underwent sham (ShC) or right renal artery clipping (2K-1C), placement of telemetry transmitters, and pair-feeding with a 0.4% NaCl diet. After 6 wk, rats were randomly assigned to cryo-DNX or sham cryotreatment (sham DNX) of the renal nerve to the clipped kidney. MAP was elevated in 2K-1C and decreased significantly in both ShC cryo-DNX and 2K-1C cryo-DNX. Tissue norepinephrine was ∼85% lower in cryo-DNX kidneys. Plasma ANG II was higher in 2K-1C sham DNX but not in 2K-1C cryo-DNX vs ShC. Renal tissue ANG II in the clipped kidney decreased after cryo-DNX. Baseline integrated RSNA of the unclipped kidney was threefold higher in 2K-1C versus ShC and decreased in 2K-1C cryo-DNX to values similar to ShC. Maximum reflex response of RSNA to baroreceptor unloading in 2K-1C was lower after cryo-DNX. Thus, denervation by cryoablation of the renal nerve to the clipped kidney decreases not only MAP but also plasma and renal tissue ANG II levels and RSNA to the contralateral kidney in conscious, freely moving 2K-1C rats.

RESUMO

Electrospinning permits fabrication of biodegradable matrices that can resemble the both scale and mechanical behavior of the native extracellular matrix. However, achieving high-cellular density and infiltration of cells within matrices with traditional technique remain challenging and time consuming. The cell electrospinning technique presented in this paper can mitigate the problems associated with these limitations. Cells encapsulated by the material in the cell electrospinning technique survived well and distributed homogenously within the nanofibrous membrane, and their vitality was improved to 133% after being cultured for 28 days. The electrospun nanofibrous membrane has a certain degradation property and favorable cell-membrane interaction that supports the active biocompatibility of the membrane. Its properties are helpful for supporting cell attachment and growth, maintaining phenotypic shape, and secreting an ample amount of extracellular matrix (ECM). This novel membrane may be a potential application within the field of tissue engineering. The ability of cell electrospinning to microintegrate cells into a biodegradable fibrous matrix embodies a novel tissue engineering approach that could be applied to fabricate a high cell density elastic tissue mimetic.

RESUMO

The structure of a tissue engineering scaffold plays an important role in modulating tissue growth. A novel gelatin-chitosan (Gel-Cs) scaffold with a unique structure produced by three-dimensional printing (3DP) technology combining with vacuum freeze-drying has been developed for tissue-engineering applications. The scaffold composed of overall construction, micro-pore, surface morphology, and effective mechanical property. Such a structure meets the essential design criteria of an ideal engineered scaffold. The favorable cell-matrix interaction supports the active biocompatibility of the structure. The structure is capable of supporting cell attachment and proliferation. Cells seeded into this structure tend to maintain phenotypic shape and secreted large amounts of extracellular matrix (ECM) and the cell growth decreased the mechanical properties of scaffold. This novel biodegradable scaffold has potential applications for tissue engineering based upon its unique structure, which acts to support cell growth.

RESUMO

We present a modal wavefront reconstruction from slope measurements for rectangular optical components of high-power laser systems. Wavefront reconstruction with slope data is an important approach used for wavefront control or correction in high-power systems. In this work, we derive a complete set of orthonormal wavefront slope polynomials for rectangular apertures and describe the modal method for obtaining wavefront representation with the aberration balancing property. Error propagation properties for the modal method are evaluated and compared with the Southwell method. The cross-coupling error is also discussed. Numerical experiments are conducted to illustrate that the modal method can achieve a higher accuracy than the Southwell method. In addition, we also investigate the influence of noise on the modal method compared with that of the Southwell method.

RESUMO

During a screening program for new agrochemicals from Chinese medicinal herbs and local wild plants, the petroleum ether (PE) extract of Atractylodes lancea (Thunb.) rhizomes was found to possess repellent and contact activities against Tribolium castaneum adults. Bioactivity-directed chromatographic separation of PE extract on repeated silica-gel columns led to the isolation of two polyacetylenes, atractylodin and atractylodinol (1 and 2, resp.), and two lactones, atractylenolides II and III (3 and 4, resp.). The structures of the compounds were elucidated based on NMR spectra. The four isolated compounds were evaluated for their insecticidal and repellent activities against T. castaneum. Atractylodin exhibited strong contact activity against T. castaneum adults with a LD50 value of 1.83 µg/adult. Atractylodin and atractylenolide II also possessed strong repellenct activities against T. castaneum adults. After 4-h exposure, >90% repellency was achieved with atractylodin at a low concentration of 0.63 µg/cm(2) . The results indicated that atractylodin (1) and atractylenolide II (3) have a good potential as a source for natural repellents, and 1 has the potential to be developed as natural insecticide.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To explore the effect of Compound Tongtu Granule (CTG) on intestinal permeability in elderly sepsis patients. METHODS: Eighty elderly sepsis patients were randomly assigned to the experimental group and the control group by randomized double blinded method, 40 in each group. On the basis of conventional antiseptic treatment program, patients in the experimental group took CTG, while those in the control group took placebos. The dosage for CTG or placebos was 14.3 g each package, one package each time, twice daily for 14 successive days. Patients' abdominal symptoms and signs, levels of serum inflammatory factors (high-sensitivity C-reactive protein and procalcitonin), levels of plasma endotoxin, and the intestinal permeability (IP, represented by urinary lactulose/mannitol excretion rate) were compared between the two groups before and after treatment. RESULTS: After 14-day treatment, patients in the experimental group had improved abdominal symptoms, increased frequency of defecation, significantly decreased levels of plasma endotoxin and IP, when compared with the control group (P < 0.05). RESUMO

Cu2 MoS4 nanosheets are synthesized by a solvothermal method in which the Cu2 O starting material acts as a sacrificial template. The microstructure of the Cu2 MoS4 nanosheets is characterized at the atomic level, and the growth mechanism is monitored at the nanoscale through systematic time-dependent experiments. As a result, the unprecedented observation of the allotropic phase change in Cu2 MoS4 that occurs during the solvothermal process is possible.

RESUMO

Currently, physical education teaching in universities tends to adopt the traditional model of one teacher for multiple students, which has high requirements for teachers and is difficult to consider students' strengths. On this basis, an interactive system has been established, including three modules: behavior information, user data collection, and behavior evaluation. Taking the 400 m running physical education teaching as an example, Kinectv2 was used to collect students' movements and contours while running, and ORB (Oriented FAST and Rotated BRIEF) feature extraction algorithm was used to extract students' movement features. After importing the data into the interactive system, students and teachers could view it in the system and provide guidance based on the students' actions. This article took 10 students as examples to test their performance changes in the 400 m running before and after systematic training. The results showed that the evaluation score after receiving systematic instruction increased by 6-7 s compared to the score without receiving instruction, with a significant change. This indicated that the interactive AI (artificial intelligence) system constructed in this article can play a significant role in sports teaching of 400 m running.

RESUMO

Exercise-induced changes in γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) or nitric oxide signaling within the paraventricular nucleus (PVN) have not been studied in renovascular hypertension. We tested whether exercise training decreases mean arterial pressure (MAP) and renal sympathetic nerve activity (RSNA) in two-kidney, one-clip (2K-1C) hypertensive rats due to enhanced nitric oxide or GABA signaling within PVN. Conscious, unrestrained male Sprague-Dawley rats with either sham (Sham) or right renal artery clipping (2K-1C) were assigned to sedentary (SED) or voluntary wheel running (ExT) for 6 or 12 wk. MAP and angiotensin II (ANG II) were elevated in 2K-1C SED rats. The 2K-1C ExT rats displayed lower MAP at 6 wk that did not decline further by 12 wk. Plasma ANG II was lower in 2K-1C ExT rats. Increases in MAP, heart rate, and RSNA to blockade of PVN nitric oxide in 2K-1C SED rats were attenuated compared with either Sham group. Exercise training restored the responses in 2K-1C ExT rats. The increase in MAP in response to bicuculline was inversely correlated with baseline MAP. The rise in MAP was lower in 2K-1C SED vs. either Sham group and was normalized in the 2K-1C ExT rats. Paradoxically, heart rate and RSNA responses were not diminished in 2K-1C SED rats but were significantly lower in the 2K-1C ExT rats. Thus the decrease in arterial pressure in 2K-1C hypertension associated with exercise training is likely due to diminished excitatory inputs to PVN because of lower ANG II and higher nitritergic tone rather than enhanced GABA inhibition of sympathetic output.
