RESUMO

A novel copper oxide/graphite composite (GCuO) anode with high capacity and long cycle stability is proposed. A simple, one-step synthesis method is used to prepare the GCuO, through heat treatment of the Cu ion complex and pristine graphite. The gases generated during thermal decomposition of the Cu ion complex (H2 and CO2 ) induce interlayer expansion of the graphite planes, which assists effective ion intercalation. Copper oxide is formed simultaneously as a high-capacity anode material through thermal reduction of the Cu ion complex. Material analyses reveal the formation of Cu oxide nanoparticles and the expansion of the gaps between the graphite layers from 0.34 to 0.40 nm, which is enough to alleviate layer stress for reversible ion intercalation for Li or Na batteries. The GCuO cell exhibits excellent Li-ion battery half-cell performance, with a capacity of 532 mAh g-1 at 0.2 C (C-rate) and capacity retention of 83 % after 250 cycles. Moreover, the LiFePO4 /GCuO full cell is fabricated to verify the high performance of GCuO in practical applications. This cell has a capacity of 70 mAh g-1 and a coulombic efficiency of 99 %. The GCuO composite is therefore a promising candidate for use as an anode material in advanced Li- or Na-ion batteries.

RESUMO

In this work, a whole manufacturing process of the curved copper nanowires (CCNs) based flexible transparent conductive electrode (FTCE) is reported with all solution processes, including synthesis, coating, and networking. The CCNs with high purity and good quality are designed and synthesized by a binary polyol coreduction method. In this reaction, volume ratio and reaction time are the significant factors for the successful synthesis. These nanowires have an average 50 nm in width and 25-40 µm range in length with curved structure and high softness. Furthermore, a meniscus-dragging deposition (MDD) method is used to uniformly coat the well-dispersed CCNs on the glass or polyethylene terephthalate substrate with a simple process. The optoelectrical property of the CCNs thin films is precisely controlled by applying the MDD method. The FTCE is fabricated by networking of CCNs using solvent-dipped annealing method with vacuum-free, transfer-free, and low-temperature conditions. To remove the natural oxide layer, the CCNs thin films are reduced by glycerol or NaBH4 solution at low temperature. As a highly robust FTCE, the CCNs thin film exhibits excellent optoelectrical performance (T = 86.62%, R(s) = 99.14 Ω â—»(-1)), flexibility, and durability (R/R(0) < 1.05 at 2000 bending, 5 mm of bending radius).

RESUMO

Cu3Sn alloy nanocrystals are synthesized by sequential reduction of Cu and Sn precursors through a gradual increase of the reaction temperature. By transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), UV/Vis spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses, the alloy formation mechanism of Cu3Sn nanocrystals has been studied. The incremental increase of the reaction temperature sequentially induces the reduction of Sn, the diffusion of Sn into the preformed Cu nanocrystals, resulting in the intermediate phase of Cu-Sn alloy nanocrystals, and then the formation of Cu3Sn alloy nanocrystals. We anticipate that the synthesis of Cu3Sn alloy nanocrystals encourages studies toward the synthesis of various alloy nanomaterials.

RESUMO

Oxidation-resistant copper nanowires (Cu NWs) are synthesized by a polyol reduction method. These Cu NWs show excellent oxidation resistance, good dispersibility, and have a low sintering temperature. A Cu NW-based flexible, foldable, and free-standing electrode is fabricated by filtration and a sintering process. The electrode also exhibits high electrical conductivity even bending, folding, and free-standing.

RESUMO

As a dermal scaffold, artificial dermal substitutes allow the body to accomplish its own tissue regeneration through infiltration of cells and neovascularisation. However, they show not only rather lower take rates compared to autologous skin grafts alone, but they also require more time for sufficient vascular ingrowth to overlay the skin graft. To accelerate this overlaying, we applied vacuum-assisted closure negative-pressure settings over the artificial dermis: Terudermis(®) and Pelnac(®) grafts. Fourteen patients with complex tissue defects were treated, including bone exposure in two cases, tendon exposure in seven cases and soft tissue defects in five cases. Nine cases had combined wound infections. The time interval between the first artificial dermis graft and the second split-thickness skin graft over it was 7·64 days on average. Dermal substitutes took place completely in all cases and there were no graft failures.

RESUMO

Many surgical techniques are available for repairing a lacerated canaliculus, such as, Worst pigtail probing, and monocanalicular or bicanalicular procedures involving silicone intubation. Despite this, controversy still exists regarding the best surgical method in terms of subjective and objective outcomes. We report the experience of microscopic canalicular repair using monocanalicular stents; Monostent (Eagle Vision Inc., Memphis, TN) and Mini-Monoka stents (FCI Ophthalmics, Marshfield Hills, MA) and compare these 2 products. Seventeen cases of canalicular lacerations in 15 consecutive patients underwent microscopic canalicular repair using a monocanalicular procedure with either a Monostent (Eagle Vision Inc.) (5 cases) or a Mini-Monoka stent (FCI Ophthalmics) (12 cases). Microscopic anastomosis of the canalicular mucosa was performed following the placement of a juxta canalicular suture to reduce tension. Subjective and objective flows of repaired lacrimal drainage systems were checked by saline injection using a Healon needle (Advanced Medical Optics, Inc., Santa Ana, CA) and dacryocystogram. Patent lacrimal drainage systems were achieved in 16 of the 17 cases, and mild epiphora was acceptable in 14 patients during follow-up. No cases of spontaneous punctal plug migration, stent displacement, eyeball irritation or inflammation, or granuloma formation were encountered. However, in one case, a Mini-Monoka stent (FCI Ophthalmics) was repeatedly extruded or clogged internally and replaced by Monostent (Eagle Vision Inc.). Although the latter had a larger conduit diameter, it was more flexible and had potentially folded on itself in the lacrimal sac, thus, obstructing flow in this case. Microscopic canalicular reconstruction using a Monostent (Eagle Vision Inc.) or Mini-Monoka stent (FCI Ophthalmics) offers a safe, effective, and straightforward means of acute lacrimal system injury treatment.

RESUMO

The specialized structure of the upper eyelid ensures complete closure of the eye and eyeball sealing. An upper eyelid injury can cause various symptoms associated with eyeball trauma, not just scar formation or eyelid deformity. In this report, we describe a case of lagophthalmos observed after wound repair in a patient with a crushing injury caused by a grinder. Several surgical techniques are used to treat lagophthalmos or scar contracture. In most cases, a releasing procedure is performed after 6 months of initial repair. However, if the patient has severe symptoms that are not relieved by conservative care, early revision is inevitable. We describe a case of early lagophthalmos successfully resolved with pentagonal wedge resection, fat redistribution, and full-thickness skin grafting. After the revisional surgery, we observed that the patient regained the ability to completely close the injured eyelid, with restoration of function and favorable cosmetic outcomes. Pentagonal wedge resection to release a retracted structure, fat redistribution to prevent readhesion, and full-thickness skin grafting for enough amount of skin to regain upper eyelid function is useful for scar release and lagophthalmos following crushing injuries of the upper eyelid.

RESUMO

Fifteen rabbits were used to assess the effect of Lipo-PGE1 on neovascularization. Merocel(®) and Alloderm(®) of the same size were implanted separately under the back skin to act as matrices for vessel growth. Lipo-PGE1 was injected intravenously for 2 weeks in an experimental group of eight rabbits, and they were compared with a control group of seven untreated animals. Blood flow was measured using the (99m)TcO4(-) clearance technique. The mean blood clearance halftime (T1/2) and washout radioactivity were measured. Newly formed vessels were counted by CD31. The mean clearance halftime was 4005 ± 2161.3 and 13840 ± 4644.6 s in the experimental and control group, respectively, in the 1 × 2 × 1.5-cm-sized implants (p = 0.0125), and 1560 ± 1174.7 and 3405 ± 807.03 s, respectively, in the 2 × 2 × 1.5-cm-sized implants (p = 0.0413). Histological examinations revealed that the mean numbers of newly formed vessels in the experimental and control groups were 11 ± 1.58 and 7.8 ± 1.71, respectively, in the 1 × 2 × 1.5-cm-sized implants (p = 0.0501), and 20.19 ± 12.47 and 12.33 ± 3.25, respectively, in the 2 × 2 × 1.5-cm-sized implants (p = 0.02679). Lipo-PGE1 was found to be effective in promoting angiogenesis in a rabbit matrix model.

RESUMO

We report a novel method for the synthesis of a self-reducible (thermally reducible without a reducing atmosphere) and alcohol-soluble copper-based metal-organic decomposition (MOD) ink for printed electronics. Alcohol-solvent-based conductive inks are necessary for commercial printing processes such as reverse offset printing. We selected copper(II) formate as a precursor and alkanolamine (2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol) as a ligand to make an alcohol-solvent-based conductive ink and to assist in the reduction reaction of copper(II) formate. In addition, a co-complexing agent (octylamine) and a sintering helper (hexanoic acid) were introduced to improve the metallic copper film. The specific resistivity of copper-based MOD ink (Cuf-AMP-OH ink) after heat treatment at 350 °C is 9.46 µΩ·cm, which is 5.5 times higher than the specific resistivity of bulk copper. A simple stamping transfer was conducted to demonstrate the potential of our ink for commercial printing processes.

RESUMO

Dupuytren's contracture is a condition commonly encountered by hand surgeons, although it is rare in the Asian population. Various surgical procedures for Dupuytren's contracture have been reported, and the outcomes vary according to the treatment modalities. We report the treatment results of segmental fasciectomies with multiple transverse incisions for patients with Dupuytren's contracture. The cases of seven patients who underwent multiple segmental fasciectomies with multiple transverse incisions for Dupuytren's contracture from 2006 to 2011 were reviewed retrospectively. Multiple transverse incisions to the severe contracture sites were performed initially, and additional incisions to the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joints, and the proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joints were performed if necessary. Segmental fasciectomies by removing the fibromatous nodules or cords between the incision lines were performed and the wound margins were approximated. The mean range of motion of the involved MCP joints and PIP joints was fully recovered. During the follow-up periods, there was no evidence of recurrence or progression of disease. Multiple transverse incisions for Dupuytren's contracture are technically challenging, and require a high skill level of hand surgeons. However, we achieved excellent correction of contractures with no associated complications. Therefore, segmental fasciectomies with multiple transverse incisions can be a good treatment option for Dupuytren's contracture.

RESUMO

Alloderm as a biomechanical scaffold in situations such as skin grafting has been previously demonstrated. In this paper we describe its utility in a broad range of post-traumatic and congenital hand defects. During the recent three years, 11 patients (7 male, 4 female) ranging in age from 8 to 84 years underwent hand resurfacing using acellular dermis graft. There were 10 traumatic and 1 congenital hand deformities (constriction ring syndrome). The acellular dermis was used as both a dermal filler and as a spacer construct. There was no obvious loss of the acellular dermis or infection. Stable resurfacing was achieved in all patients with reasonable functional and cosmetic outcomes.

RESUMO

In distal fingertip amputations where microanastomosis may not be possible, composite grafting might offer the possibility of maintaining digital length and function using the patient's own tissue. Many trials such as ice-cooling, pharmacologic enhancement and hyperbaric oxygenation have been reported to improve the survival rate of the composite graft. Twenty-four cases of unreplantable fingertip amputation were classified as types I to III according to the level of injury. We performed the composite grafting followed by immediate ice-cooling for 2 weeks and intravenous lipo-prostaglandin E(1) (lipo-PGE(1)) injection for 8.8 days each on average. Twenty-two fingertips in 24 patients survived completely with acceptable appearance and sensibility over the 8 month follow-up period. Confirming that therapeutic angiogenesis using ice-cooling and lipo-PGE(1) can increase the survival rate of the composite graft in unreplantable fingertip amputation, we describe the procedures and postoperative care in detail.
