RESUMO

Immediately prior to their consultation of a physician 259 ambulatory patients were interviewed concerning their expectations of the interaction with the physician, the course and results of the consultation. From the responses received to open and closed questions several quasi-scales were developed. These scales showed correlations to variables such as nature of the medical problem, type of practice and socio-economic indicators.

RESUMO

In the drug prevention programme studied here, peers were acting as teachers for their colleagues. We focused on the contribution of student characteristics and of teaching quality to the gain in knowledge about drugs. 165 8th- and 9th-graders in eight classes answered a questionnaire three times: before, immediately after and five months after the intervention. There was a significant increase in knowledge immediately after the intervention (mean m = 6.2) and after five months (m = 6.1) compared to the score before (m = 4.5). Furthermore, non-German speaking students of the "Sekundarschule" (higher level) learned the most, non-German speaking students of the "Realschule" (lower level) learned nothing at all. We found a positive association between teaching quality as assessed by each class and knowledge gain in the same class. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that five months after the intervention student characteristics explained an important part of the variance in knowledge gain (25% of the total variance), while teaching quality explained another 5%. Consequently, these characteristics can serve as predictors of knowledge gain in such programmes.

RESUMO

Following a brief overview of approaches to workplace health promotion and more specifically of health education courses the paper describes the objectives, contents and methods of a new health course for workers at elevated health risk. This course was developed as part of a comprehensive workplace intervention programme. It comprises three consecutive modules, coping with stress, nutrition, and fitness, each consisting of five 75-minute lessons. Due to intervals of several months between the modules the whole course takes about a year. Course objectives are to improve awareness of own health-related life-style, to mobilise health resources and to develop potentials for health action. Instructional methods include teaching of relevant knowledge, exchange of experience, observational tasks as well as practical exercises.

RESUMO

The incidence and prevalence of patients with musculoskeletal disorders benefiting from the Swiss invalidity insurance system in the Canton of Berne, Switzerland, are studied. During a 5-year period 1252 such patients (393 women) first received either payments or were supported by rehabilitation measures (incidence). The correlation of this incidence with sociodemographic factors such as sex, age, disease pattern, place of residence and occupation, as well as the type of service delivered, are analyzed and discussed. At a given date (March 1982) 2754 patients with musculoskeletal disorders were receiving insurance pension (prevalence). By relating these figures to census data (total population), a 1.37% 5-year benefit incidence and a 3.02% pension prevalence can be calculated.

RESUMO

This paper describes the Model for Outcome Classification in Health Promotion and Prevention adopted by Health Promotion Switzerland (SMOC, Swiss Model for Outcome Classification) and the process of its development. The context and method of model development, and the aim and objectives of the model are outlined. Preliminary experience with application of the model in evaluation planning and situation analysis is reported. On the basis of an extensive literature search, the model is situated within the wider international context of similar efforts to meet the challenge of developing tools to assess systematically the activities of health promotion and prevention.
