RESUMO

Pseudo-signet ring parietal cell vacuolation has been described as a mimic of invasive signet ring cell carcinoma. Moreover, signet ring cell carcinoma has been described in a fundic gland polyp. This case demonstrates parietal cell vacuolation in a fundic gland polyp in a patient on a long-term proton pump inhibitor.

RESUMO

Breast carcinoma in males is rare although a 4-fold increased incidence is reported in HIV-infected men. Herein we report a case of invasive breast carcinoma in a HIV-positive man on antiretroviral therapy. The carcinoma was associated with features of florid gynecomastia, atypical ductal hyperplasia, ductal carcinoma in situ, and columnar cell change. This combination of morphological changes has not previously been reported in the context of male breast carcinoma and their etiopathological associations are discussed.

RESUMO

Xanthomas are common in cutaneous sites but may also be seen in unusual locations. In view of the paucity of reported cases, the occurrence of such lesions within the breast stroma would appear to be either unusual, underreported, or ignored. Indeed, most reports of the few breast xanthomas and of the even fewer xanthomatous fibroadenomas reported have appeared in the older literature. Herein, a case of fibroadenoma with multiple foci of xanthoma is reported, the literature is briefly reviewed, and the apparent difference between the previous cases and the current case is highlighted.

RESUMO

Membranous fat necrosis is an unusual type of fat necrosis occurring in the breast and normally involves the parenchyma. This report describes an apparently unique intraductal focus in a fibroadenoma following prior needling. Displacement of fatty tissue in the form of membranous fat necrosis within ducts could be added to the list of histological features following core biopsy.

RESUMO

Melanosis coli is a well-known occurrence in colonic biopsies. The condition is, however, reportedly absent in both neoplastic and hyperplastic colonic polyps. Herein, we describe its occurrence in 10 hyperplastic colonic polyps, some of which showed melanosis in adjacent biopsied mucosa, and 2 colonic adenomata.

RESUMO

Pseudomembranes in colonic biopsies are normally associated with antibiotic related pseudomembranous colitis. Although pseudomembranes have rarely been reported in other conditions, their presence in rectal prolapse has not been previously reported.

RESUMO

Aggressive angiomyxoma and endometriosis are two apparently unrelated lesions which commonly arise within the pelvis. However, whilst their simultaneous occurrence in this site may be fortuitous, a shared pathogenesis cannot be entirely excluded.

RESUMO

Acinar cell carcinoma is an uncommon carcinoma of the exocrine pancreas. On very rare occasions it has been reported in ectopic sites, sometimes with, but usually without contiguous heterotopic pancreatic tissue. Whilst mixed and composite glandular tumours have also been described, pure pancreatic-type acinar cell carcinomas arising in the stomach are very rare.

RESUMO

Russell body gastritis refers to the accumulation of plasma cells containing Russell bodies within the lamina propria. This report describes the first case of monoclonal Russell body gastritis without the previously reported associations.

RESUMO

A case of mantle cell lymphoma involving the prostate is reported. This was associated with scattered histiocytes and features of granulomatous prostatitis. This demonstrates that histiocytes are seen in mantle cell lymphoma in unusual sites and raises the possibility of a pathogenetic association with granulomatous prostatitis.

RESUMO

The spaces of pseudoangiomatous stromal hyperplasia (PASH) are postulated to be important in the intramammary spread of breast carcinoma. The present study aimed to note the prevalence of inconspicuous, microscopic foci of PASH (identified as CD34+ve, CD31-ve and D2-40-ve spaces containing tumour emboli) involved in breast carcinoma and to establish the significance of its relationship to lymph node metastases. A total of 80 cases of breast carcinoma were examined for microscopic foci of PASH permeated by carcinoma and, of the four cases found to demonstrate such involvement, three had lymph node metastases.
