RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The present study aims to explore the influencing factors of the scientific fitness literacy of nurses and provide a strategic basis for literacy improvement. METHODS: A questionnaire on the influencing factors of scientific fitness literacy of nurses was designed by the group conducting the present study; the questionnaire was based on the socioecology model and the questionnaire preparation method. The general data questionnaire and the questionnaire on the influencing factors of scientific fitness literacy of nurses were adopted to investigate nurses in tertiary hospitals in order to analyze and discuss the influencing factors of their scientific fitness literacy. RESULTS: (1) The questionnaire on the influencing factors of the scientific fitness literacy of nurses comprised five dimensions and 36 items. The overall item-content validity index was 0.833-1.000, the scale-content validity index was 0.974, and the overall Cronbach's α coefficient was 0.955; (2) the results of the pairwise Pearson correlation analysis showed that all five dimensions were positively correlated with the scientific fitness literacy of nurses; and (3) the results of the multiple linear regression analysis revealed that five dimensions, as well as the existence of exercise habits in daily life, had a significant impact on the scientific fitness literacy of nurses (P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: The factors influencing the scientific fitness literacy of nurses involved all levels of the socioecological system. The methods of improving the awareness of the scientific fitness of nurses and providing opportunities for scientific fitness activities via the hospital played a critical role in literacy improvement. However, the lack of professional guidance and an atmosphere promoting scientific fitness might hinder literacy improvement.

RESUMO

An in-depth understanding of the mechanism of lower extremity muscle coordination during walking is the key to improving the efficacy of gait rehabilitation in patients with neuromuscular dysfunction. This paper investigates the effect of changes in walking speed on lower extremity muscle synergy patterns and muscle functional networks. Eight healthy subjects were recruited to perform walking tasks on a treadmill at three different speeds, and the surface electromyographic signals (sEMG) of eight muscles of the right lower limb were collected synchronously. The non-negative matrix factorization (NNMF) method was used to extract muscle synergy patterns, the mutual information (MI) method was used to construct the alpha frequency band (8-13 Hz), beta frequency band (14-30 Hz) and gamma frequency band (31-60 Hz) muscle functional network, and complex network analysis methods were introduced to quantify the differences between different networks. Muscle synergy analysis extracted 5 muscle synergy patterns, and changes in walking speed did not change the number of muscle synergy, but resulted in changes in muscle weights. Muscle network analysis found that at the same speed, high-frequency bands have lower global efficiency and clustering coefficients. As walking speed increased, the strength of connections between local muscles also increased. The results show that there are different muscle synergy patterns and muscle function networks in different walking speeds. This study provides a new perspective for exploring the mechanism of muscle coordination at different walking speeds, and is expected to provide theoretical support for the evaluation of gait function in patients with neuromuscular dysfunction.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Arachis contains 80 species that carry many beneficial genes that can be utilized in the genetic improvement of peanut (Arachis hypogaea L. 2n = 4x = 40, genome AABB). Chromosome engineering is a powerful technique by which these genes can be transferred and utilized in cultivated peanut. However, their small chromosomes and insufficient cytological markers have made chromosome identification and studies relating to genome evolution quite difficult. The development of efficient cytological markers or probes is very necessary for both chromosome engineering and genome discrimination in cultivated peanut. RESULTS: A simple and efficient oligonucleotide multiplex probe to distinguish genomes, chromosomes, and chromosomal aberrations of peanut was developed based on eight single-stranded oligonucleotides (SSONs) derived from repetitive sequences. High-resolution karyotypes of 16 Arachis species, two interspecific F1 hybrids, and one radiation-induced M1 plant were then developed by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) using oligonucleotide multiplex, 45S and 5S rDNAs, and genomic in situ hybridization (GISH) using total genomic DNA of A. duranensis (2n = 2x = 20, AA) and A. ipaënsis (2n = 2x = 20, BB) as probes. Genomes, chromosomes, and aberrations were clearly identifiable in the established karyotypes. All eight cultivars had similar karyotypes, whereas the eight wild species exhibited various chromosomal variations. In addition, a chromosome-specific SSON library was developed based on the single-copy sequence of chromosome 6A of A. duranensis. In combination with repetitive SSONs and rDNA FISH, the single-copy SSON library was applied to identify the corresponding A3 chromosome in the A. duranensis karyotype. CONCLUSIONS: The development of repetitive and single-copy SSON probes for FISH and GISH provides useful tools for the differentiation of chromosomes and identification of structural chromosomal rearrangement. It facilitates the development of high-resolution karyotypes and detection of chromosomal variations in Arachis species. To our knowledge, the methodology presented in this study demonstrates for the first time the correlation between a sequenced chromosome region and a cytologically identified chromosome in peanut.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to explore and analyze the effect of acupuncture on improving the enteral nutrition level and gastrointestinal dynamics in patients who had suffered a severe stroke. METHODS: A total of 122 patients who experienced a severe stroke who were treated in the intensive care unit of the Affiliated Hospital of Hebei University (China) between September 2021 and March 2022 were randomly divided into two groups as follows: 1) the observation group, the participants of which received acupuncture combined with early enteral nutrition (61 cases); 2) the control group, the participants of which received early enteral nutrition (61 cases). Following treatment, the hemoglobin, neutrophil count, blood glucose, albumin, pre-albumin, immediate postprandial antral area, antral contraction frequency (at 2 min), and antral motility index on days 1 and 7 of treatment were compared between the two groups. RESULTS: The total clinical effective rate was 96.72% in the observation group and 77.05% in the control group. The curative effect comparison between the two groups after seven days of treatment showed a lower probability of gastrointestinal bleeding, faster recovery of gastrointestinal motility, and a higher level of nutrient absorption in the observation group. Serum albumin, pre-albumin, hemoglobin, total lymphocyte count, immediate postprandial maximum (max) and minimum (mix) area of the gastric antrum, antral contraction frequency (at 2 min), and antral motility index were higher in the observation group than in the control group (P < 0.05). The difference in blood glucose levels between the two groups was not statistically significant (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Acupuncture improved the enteral nutrition status of patients who had suffered a severe stroke and promoted gastrointestinal motility. The combination of acupuncture and early enteral nutrition could reduce damage to the gastrointestinal mucosal barrier caused by stress, changes in metabolism, and improved gastrointestinal function.

RESUMO

Objective: The present study aims to analyze the current situation of scientific fitness literacy in nurses and provide a basis for all-round strategies for its improvement. Methods: Nurses in tertiary hospitals were conveniently selected as subjects in order to investigate the current situation regarding the scientific fitness literacy of nurses. The selection process was completed via the demographics questionnaire and the adult scale of scientific fitness literacy in sports medicine integration. As the minimum sample size was 5-10 times the number of variables in the study of exploring influencing factors of related variables and using the equation , given 20% of invalid questionnaires, the sample size should be >600 persons. The methods used for statistical analysis were descriptive statistical analysis and the t-test. Results: The scientific fitness literacy score in nurses was 110.81 ± 25.04 (relative value: 69.7%); this consisted of 50.85 ± 11.19 (73.7%) for scientific fitness knowledge dimension, 25.99 ± 5.35 (78.8%) for scientific fitness attitude dimension, and 33.97 ± 13.59 (59.6%) for scientific fitness behavior and skill dimension. The results of the independent sample t-test and analysis of variance showed that the differences in gender, education level, position, exercise habits, and balanced diet in daily life among nurses (regarding scientific fitness literacy) were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Nurses generally have an above-average level of scientific fitness literacy; this is mainly due to their good cognition and attitude regarding scientific fitness. However, their scientific fitness behaviors and skills are greatly inadequate. They are especially weak in completing WHO's recommended amount of exercise, mastering the cores of sports skills, undergoing a professional assessment before exercise, and developing exercise plans.

RESUMO

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Millettia speciosa Champ., also called Niu dali, is a fabaceous medicinal plant mainly distributed in southeast China, where it is a functional food for developing physical strength, and often used traditionally in medicinal treatment of numbness of the wrists, diabetes, hepatitis, and so on. AIM OF THE STUDY: To investigate the chemical profile, ameliorating effects of MSC on glycolipid metabolism in diabetic mice and to identify the possible mechanism of action. MATERIALS AND METHODS: High-performance liquid chromatography coupled with electrospray ionization quadrupole time of flight mass spectrometry (HPLC-ESI-QTOF-MS) was applied to analyze the chemical compositions from M. speciosa extract (MSC). MSC was orally administered to high-fat diet and STZ-induced diabetic mice at doses of 4.55, 9.10 and 13.65 mg/(kg·d) respectively for 10 weeks. Indices of glycolipid metabolism, including fasting blood glucose (FBG), fasting insulin, insulin resistance index (IRI), blood lipids, HPA-axis hormones, and related gene expressions were evaluated. RESULTS: 86 compounds were tentatively identified from MSC, counting for 91.97% of the total extract, mainly including 23 alkaloids (including 2 cyanogenetic glycosides firstly identified in this species, total content accounted to 39.71%), 23 flavonoids (11.91%), 17 acids (including 3 amino acids, 9 phenolic acids and 5 organic acids; 9.2%), 9 terpenoids and steroids (20.13%), 7 esters (3.33%), 3 lignans (3.73%), 3 saccharides (4.0%) and 1 anthraquinone (0.18%). MSC could ameliorate the glycolipid disorder in diabetic mice markedly, and significant regulations on CRH and ACTH hormones were observed. Moreover, the cellular morphology of liver and pancreas were significantly improved and the expressions of IRS2, PI3K, Akt and GLUT4 were significantly up-regulated by MSC treatment. CONCLUSION: This was the first time to study the chemical profile and ameliorating effect on glycolipid metabolism of M. speciosa. It was found to be rich in flavonoids and alkaloids, which might support the potential relation of material foundation and the activity in regulating glycolipid metabolism. The ameliorating effect on glycolipid disorder in diabetic mice might be associated to the regulation of related hormones of the HPA axis and the IRS2/PI3K/Akt/GLUT4 signalling pathway. It was of great significance for advanced directed separation and pharmacological activity research of MSC.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: To investigate the clinical efficacy of physical factors combined with early psychological intervention in treatment of patients with chronic limb pain. METHODS: A total of 132 patients with chronic limb pain admitted to Affiliated Hospital of Hebei University, Baoding, China from June 2014 to June 2017 were enrolled. The patients were divided into control group (n=66) and observation group (n=66) according to the random number table method. Both groups of patients were treated with physical factors, and the patients in the observation group were also treated with early psychological intervention. PHQ-15 pain factor score, visual analog pain score (VAS score), Hamilton depression rating scale (HAMD) and clinical efficacy were compared between two groups. RESULTS: Difference of PHQ-15 pain factor score, VAS score and HAMD score between two groups before treatment were not statistically significant (P=0.091, 0.161, 0.078). At the end of treatment and at 8 weeks of follow-up, PHQ-15 pain factor score, VAS score, and HAMD score of observation group were lower than those of control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P=0.045, 0.014; 0.011, 0.025; 0.030, 0.015). Total clinical effective rates of observation group and control group were 92.43% and 86.37%, respectively, and the differences were statistically significant (P=0.019). CONCLUSION: Compared with physical factors alone, combination of physical factors and early psychological intervention can significantly alleviate the pain and improve the depression of patients with chronic limb pain. It should be promoted in clinical practices.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To observe the therapeutic effect of acupuncture therapy in the treatment of dysphagia in apoplexy patients. METHODS: A total of 104 patients with post-stroke dysphagia were randomized into a control (conventional swallowing rehabilitation training) group and an acupuncture group (n= 52 cases in each one). In the control group, the conventional swallowing rehabilitation training was conducted, twice daily, 6 times a week for 4 weeks. In the acupuncture group, deep needling of main acupoints Lianquan (CV23) and Yifeng (TE17), and conventional acupuncture of adjuvant acupoints as Fengchi (GB20) and Fengfu (GV16), Wangu (GB12), Lieque (LU7), Jinjin (EX-HN12), Yuye (EX-HN13), etc. as well as electroacupuncture stimulation (15-20 Hz, 5 mA, and duration of 30 min) of ipsilateral CV23-GV16, TE17-GB20, and bilateral Neidaying acupoints were conducted. The acupuncture treatment was given once daily, 6 times a week for consecutive 4 weeks. In addition, patients of the two groups also received routine symptomatic treatment with drugs for anti-platelet aggregation, nourishing cranial nerve, lowering blood pressure, controlling blood glucose, improving cerebral circulation, etc. Before and after the treatment, the standard swallowing assessment (SSA, 18-46 points) and Kubota water swallowing test (WST, 1-5 grades) were conducted to evaluate the patient's swallowing function. The comprehensive therapeutic effect was assessed in accordance with the SSA and Kubota WST, and adverse reactions were recorded. RESULTS: After the treatment, the SSA score was considerably reduced in the two groups relevant to their own pre-treatment (both P<0.05), and was significantly lower in the acupuncture group than in the control group (P<0.05). The Kubota WST grade was evidently increased in the number of patients with grade Ⅰ (P<0.05) and reduced in the numbers of patients with grade Ⅲ-Ⅴ in both groups relevant to their own pre-treatment, and was more patients with grade Ⅰ in the acupuncture group than in the control group (P<0.05). Outcomes of the comprehensive therapeutic effect indicated that of the two 52 cases in the control and acupuncture groups, 8 (15.38%) and 19 (36.53%) were cured, 7 (13.46%) and 15 (28.45%) had marked improvement, 17 (32.69%) and 12 (23.08%) were effective, and 20 (38.46%) and 6 (11.54%) failed in the treatment, with the effective rate being 61.54% and 88.46%, respectively. The total effective rate of the acupuncture group was significantly higher than that of the control group (P<0.05). The adverse reactions such as regional hematoma (in 3 cases) and pain (in 2 cases) in the acupuncture group, and choking-coughing in the control group were seen, being 9.62% and 11.54% in the incidence rate, respectively. CONCLUSION: Deep needling of main acupoints Lianquan (CV23) and Yifeng (TE 17) in combination with conventional acupuncture of other acupoints is effective in improving local glossopharyngeal function in apoplexy patients with dysphagia, which is obviously superior to conventional swallowing rehabilitation training in the therapeutic effect and is applicable in clinical practice.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Development of oligonucleotide probes facilitates chromosome identification via fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) in many organisms. RESULTS: We report a high throughput and economical method of chromosome identification based on the development of a dye solution containing 2 × saline-sodium citrate (SSC) and oligonucleotide probes. Based on the concentration, staining time, and sequence effects of oligonucleotides, an efficient probe dye of peanut was developed for chromosome identification. To validate the effects of this solution, 200 slides derived from 21 accessions of the cultivated peanut and 30 wild Arachis species were painted to identify Arachis genomes and establish karyotypes. The results showed that one jar of dye could be used to paint 10 chromosome preparations and recycled at least 10 times to efficiently dye more than 100 slides. The A, B, K, F, E, and H genomes showed unique staining karyotype patterns and signal colors. CONCLUSIONS: Based on the karyotype patterns of Arachis genomes, we revealed the relationships among the A, B, K, F, E, and H genomes in genus Arachis, and demonstrated the potential for adoption of this oligonucleotide dye solution in practice.

RESUMO

Soil cadmium (Cd) contamination has become a serious problem in China. This study was conducted to test the effects of basal application of hydrated lime and iron fertilizer alone or together and topdressing of iron fertilizer at the tillering stage alone or coupled with basal application of hydrated lime, on reducing the accumulation of Cd in brown rice grown in an acidic paddy field slightly contaminated with Cd. The results showed that Cd in brown rice (BR-Cd) was dependent on not only the pH increase and CaCl2-extractable Cd reduction in the soil due to lime amendment but also Cd sequestration by the iron plaque on root surfaces. However, lime significantly decreased the amounts of Fe and Cd in the iron plaque on the surface of rice root. Topdressing of ferrous sulfate at the tillering stage resulted in the highest Fe and Cd sequestration in the iron plaque. Compared with the control (0.71 mg kg-1 BR-Cd), the basal application of lime and ferrous sulfate alone or together reduced BR-Cd by 45.8%, 18.3%, and 53.1%, respectively; topdressing of ferrous sulfate alone reduced BR-Cd by 23.6%, and topdressing of ferrous sulfate at the tillering stage coupled with basal application of lime yielded the lowest BR-Cd level with a 74.6% reduction. This result was further confirmed by field experiments at two sites in the following year.
