RESUMO

Objective To investigate the relationship between body mass index(BMI)and risk levels of thyroid nodules in a multi-center healthy population. Methods A total of 6070 subjects were enrolled from five medical physical examination centers in China from January 2015 to December 2017. All the participants'general information and parameters were recorded. Thyroid nodules were detected by color Doppler ultrasonography. All ultrasound doctors received uniform training before study. Results Among all the subjects,5773(95.1%;with 4274 nodules identified in 2833 subjects)were from northern China and 297(4.9%,with 183 nodules identified in 158 subjects)from central China(χ2=1.923,P=0.092). The nodules were single in 1479 of 2991 subjects(49.4%)and multiple in 1512 subjects(50.6%). Nodules larger than 1 cm accounted for 13.3% and nodules smaller than 1 cm accounted for 86.7%. Compared with the non-thyroid nodule group, the thyroid nodule group had significantly more women(χ2=156.36,P=0.000),older age(t=-18.768,P=0.000),and higher fasting blood glucose(FBG) level(t=-3.808,P=0.000). Among all the nodules, the prevalence rates of benign,very-low-risk,low-risk,moderate risk, and high risk were 4.5%,6.6%,85.0%,0.1%,and 3.7%,respectively,according to the ATA guidelines. Notably, there were 4291 nodules at moderate or lower risks and 166 nodules at high risk. Compared with the former, patients with high-risk nodules had significantly lower BMI(χ2=25.161,P=0.000)and high FBG(t=3.357,P=0.000). Multivariate non-conditional Logistic regression showed low BMI(OR=2.900,95%CI:1.461-5.783,P=0.002)and high FBG level(OR=0.803,95%CI:0.675-0.955,P=0.013)were independent risk factors for high-risk nodules. Compared with subjects with normal weight or obese populations, subjects with low BMI had significantly higher detection rate of high-risk nodules(χ2=25.16,P=0.000). In ≥55 year-old group, significantly more high-risk nodules were detected in low BMI group(χ2=44.868,P=0.000). Conclusion Low weight is associated with high-risk thyroid nodules among people ≥55 years old.

RESUMO

Berberine is the major component of Coptidis Rhizoma and it has been used as anti-infection, anti-inflammation drug for gastrointestinal diseases. In recent years, evidence showed that it could regulate glucose and lipid metabolism. Moreover, its activity had been tested by clinical trials and animal researches. The mechanisms of berberine in diabetes include: improving the function of beta-cell; prompting insulin secretion and islets regeneration, lowing lipid level, regulating glucose and lipid metabolic by influence transcriptional factors expression such as PPARgamma, C/EBPalpha, SREBP-1c, LXR, having the activities of anti-oxidation and inhibiting reductase to repress oxidative stress state and regulate metabolic signal pathway. Although numbers of data supported that berberine could improving insulin resistance by clinical trials and animal studies, the large scale, multicenter clinical trials are needed to evaluate the effects of berberine for diabetes and its complications in the time of evidence-based medicine.

RESUMO

Cardiovascular deconditioning is known to occur in astronauts exposed to microgravity. Endothelial dysfunction at microcirculatory sites might contribute to cardiovascular deconditioning induced by weightlessness. Recent studies have reported changes in the morphology and gene expression of endothelial cells exposed to conditions of simulated microgravity. The present study was aimed at examining the effects of microgravity on the apoptosis of microvascular endothelial cells and the mechanism underlying these effects. We simulated a microgravity environment and found that microgravity induced microvascular endothelial cell apoptosis and that this effect was correlated with the downregulation of the PI3K/Akt pathway, increased expression of NF-κB, and depolymerization of F-actin. These findings may provide important insights into the origin of the adverse physiological changes occurring due to exposure to microgravity conditions.

RESUMO

Aim: To derive a more precise association between the interleukin-1 beta (IL-1B) gene polymorphism rs1143623 and cancer risk. Methods: Published case-control studies up to November 5, 2019, that met all inclusion criteria were identified using PubMed, Web of Science, and EMBASE. Odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals were calculated to estimate the strength of associations using multiple genetic models. Sensitivity analyses and publication biases were also performed. Results: Nine articles covering 11 case-control studies, with 4801 cases and 6116 controls, were included in this meta-analysis. No significant association between the IL-1B rs1143623 polymorphism and cancer risk was observed under the homozygous, heterozygous, dominant, recessive, or allelic genetic models (all p > 0.05). Subgroup analysis by ethnicity indicated that the IL-1B rs1143623 polymorphism may decrease the risk of cancer in Asians under the heterozygous and dominant genetic models (both p < 0.05). Sensitivity analyses showed that none of the individual studies significantly affected the overall results. No significant publication biases were detected in this meta-analysis. Conclusion: Our results suggest that there is no significant association between the IL-1B rs1143623 polymorphism and cancer risk in the overall human population, but that it may provide a protective affect among Asians.

RESUMO

This study retrospectively evaluated the effectiveness and safety of traditional Chinese medicine Shenqilixin Formula (SQLXF) as an adjunctive intervention for treating patients with chronic heart failure (CHF).This retrospective study included 135 patients with CHF. They were allocated to a treatment group or a control group according to the different treatments they received. Seventy five patients in the treatment group underwent SQLXF plus routine treatment, while 60 subjects in the control group received routine treatment only. The primary outcome was cardiac function. It was measured by the left ventricular end diastolic diameter (LVDD), left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), cardiac output (CO), every cardiac output (ECO), and cardiac index (CI). The secondary outcome included motor function. It was measured by the standard 6-MinuteWalk Test (6MWT). In addition, adverse events (AEs) were also recorded.Compared to subjects in the control group, patients in the treatment group revealed greater effectiveness in cardiac function, measured by LVEF (P < .05), CO (P < .05), and ECO (P < .05), and motor function, measured by the 6MWT scale (P < .05). Moreover, no significant differences of AEs were found between the 2 groups.SQLXF as an adjunctive therapy to routine treatment may help to improve both cardiac and motor function in patients with CHF.

RESUMO

Four Ni-Ln-Ni heterometallic complexes, [Ni2LnL2]NO3·3H2O (H3L = tri(((3-methoxysalicylidene)amino)ethyl)amine, Ln = Gd for , Tb for and Dy for , respectively) and [Ni2DyL2]ClO4·MTBE·0.65H2O (, MTBE = methyl tert-butyl ether) have been synthesized by diffusion of methyl tert-butyl ether vapor into the reaction solution. The X-ray analyses demonstrated that the Gd(III) ion in exhibits rare seven-coordination, the Tb(III) and Dy(III) ions in display unusual six-coordination, and two Ni(II) ions and one Ln(III) ion are bridged by six phenolato atoms to form linear Ni-Ln-Ni heterotrinuclear complexes for . All complexes exhibit weak ferromagnetic interactions between Ni(II) and Ln(III) ions. Alternating current susceptibility measurements demonstrated that compounds and behave as single-molecule magnets with the effective energy barriers of 14.17 and 11.13 K under zero direct current field. They are rare single-molecule magnets containing six-coordinate Dy(III) ions.
