RESUMO
A case of folie à six is described in which the persecutory delusions of the central figure spread to her husband and their 2 sons, and even to her sister-in-law and a nephew. The main factor in the development of this shared paranoid disorder seems to have been the dominant personality of the inducer. In contrast to reports in the literature, there was no family history of such disorders and there were no adverse social or environmental circumstances.

An optimized FT Raman microscope (inverted microscope with high throughput of radiation) was developed that allows minimal sample preparation and Raman spectroscopy without fluorescence. A quantitative determination of the mineralization of bone tissue and hydroxyapatite (HA) coatings of hip and knee prostheses was performed. The lateral resolution reached down to 10 microm. The distribution of the HA content in the coatings investigated was found to be similar all the time. This result was independent of the composition of the coatings and the history of the whole prosthesis. In the immediate vicinity of the prosthesis a large HA content could be observed that decreased to a minimum towards the periphery of the coating and increased at the site of the ongrown bone. For the interface between bone and HA coating a transitional zone was observed at a lateral distance of 30-40 microm to the implant.

The results of several studies on sleep EEG and dreams in patients with eating disorders are presented and compared with the data obtained in patients with a major depression. The sleep pattern, which is characteristic of depression, could not be found in the eating disorder group. Regarding the cholinergic REM induction test, the depressive displayed a pronounced shortening of REM sleep latency. However, this biological marker, indicating a cholinergic hyperactivity in depression, could not be observed in patients with eating disorders. The content analysis of laboratory-recorded dreams yielded several differences between depression and eating disorders and also, more subtle, between anorexia and bulimia.

REM sleep abnormalities like shortened REM (rapid eye movement) latency, prolongation of the first REM period and heightening of REM density often found in patients with a major depression have prompted an increasing number of studies investigating the neurobiology and neurophysiology of REM sleep in depressive patients, as well as in healthy humans and animals. On the other hand, since the early 1970s investigation of the psychological concomitant of REM sleep, i.e., dreaming, in depressive patients has been extremely sparse. The present study aimed at investigating morning and laboratory dream recall and content in patients with a major depressive disorder to shed more light on this neglected area. In short, morning as well as laboratory dream recall in depressive inpatients was drastically reduced. The low number of scorable dream reports collected did not reveal a heightened incidence of "masochistic" or "negative" content, indeed were rather mundane. In contrast, depressive outpatients (probably less depressed) had a higher rate of morning dream recall. Interestingly, antidepressive treatment with trimipramine (an antidepressant which does not suppress REM sleep) led to a positive influence on patients' mood that was paralleled by a change of dream mood in a positive direction.
