RESUMO

A clearly expressed effect of unpolarized light electro-optical modulation by homeoplanar structures of a smectic C* ferroelectric liquid crystal (FLC) and a ferrielectric liquid crystal (FerriLC) was discovered and investigated for the first time to our knowledge. This effect of electrically controlled light scattering is insensitive to the applied voltage sign, as for polymer-dispersed nematic liquid crystals (PDLCs), but the electro-optical modulation frequency reaches the kilohertz range. Occurrence conditions and essential features of the effect, as well as its physical origin, are discussed.

RESUMO

Surgical brain revascularization is an important treatment for acute or chronic ischemia, intracranial aneurysms and skull base tumors. Individual anatomy of brain vessels should be clearly understood for this procedure. Variants of collateral cerebral blood flow in patients with cerebrovascular diseases depend on individual characteristics of circle of Willis and reserve mechanisms of collateral circulation. These anatomical variations require careful preoperative planning to choose the optimal revascularization option.

RESUMO

Two cases of myeloid leukemias (acute [AML M2] and chronic [CMC]), blastic crisis, with identical t(2;3)(p13;q26) are described. These cases had some peculiarities: no significant decrease of blood thrombocyte count in the AML patient and high increase of blood thrombocyte count during blastic phase in the CML patient; dysplastic megakaryocytes in bone marrow and unfavorable course of the disease; and short remission (3 months) in AML and short chronic phase (8 months) in CML. Clinical and morphologic findings in patients with t(2;3)(p13;q26) resembled those in cases with 3q21q26 syndrome or with other chromosome rearrangements involving 3q21 or 3q26.

RESUMO

Allogenic bone marrow transplantation was performed in a patient with chronic myelocytic leukemia (Ph+) in a stable phase. A 1,5-year recurrence-free period since the time of transplantation was observed. Transplantation features were as follows: incompatibility of the recipient and donor by ABO-antigens, the development of acute graft versus host disease and transient Ph-positivity.

RESUMO

The examinees demonstrated definite effects caused by total influence of Am-241 and Pu-239: chronic radiation sickness with diffuse pneumosclerosis, chronic toxic radiation bronchitis and peripheral blood changes (reactive alterations and stable lower platelets and reticulocytes count), microfocal hypoplasia, osteodysplasia, reactive hepatopathy. Frequency of these effects increased with higher radiation exposure and did not depend on the age.

RESUMO

The article deals with consequences seen in track driver after prolonged exposure to radiation caused by "lost" gamma-source (cesium-137) that long remained in receptacle of the vehicle's left door. Radiation dose averaged 8 Gy. The authors presented clinical manifestations, changes in peripheral blood and bone marrow, cytogenetic data by progression of radiation hemopoiesis hypoplasy to myelodysplastic syndrome and to acute leukaemia.

RESUMO

It was shown that mitotic indices of erythroblasts, basophilic and polychromatophilic normoblasts, myeloblasts, promyelocytes and myelocytes decline depending on the degree of cell differentiation and are quantitatively expressed by the ratio 4:2:1. The feedback between the value of mitotic indices and the number of cells which is expressed by power dependence was identified.
