RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To characterize blaNDM-carrying Salmonella recovered from a pig slaughterhouse. METHODS: In this study, 46 environment samples were collected from a slaughterhouse in China, and screened for carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales. WGS, antimicrobial susceptibility testing and conjugation experiments were carried out to identify the isolates' resistance phenotypes and genetic characteristics. The phylogenetic relatedness of the Salmonella isolates obtained in this study and Salmonella (ST34 and ST29) in GenBank was determined. RESULTS: Two ST34 Salmonella Typhimurium and one ST29 Salmonella Stanley, recovered from three environmental samples (6.52%), were positive for blaNDM-1 and blaNDM-5, respectively. The two ST34 S. Typhimurium strains exhibited a close relationship (10-36 SNPs) with two human-derived blaNDM-1-bearing isolates from China (Hong Kong and Guangxi Province) and two blaNDM-negative ST34 Salmonella strains from the UK. The blaNDM-1 genes were located on IncHI2/ST3 plasmids. The capture of blaNDM-1 by the IncHI2/ST3 plasmid seems to be due to homologous recombination mediated by circular structures, as the genetic arrangements of the blaNDM-1 gene contain two IS26 elements of the same orientation. The blaNDM-5 gene was also carried by the IncHI2/ST3 plasmid, which shares highly similar structures with other blaNDM-5-bearing IncHI2/ST3 plasmids from other sources (fish, chicken, duck, human). CONCLUSIONS: This is the first report of a blaNDM-5-carrying IncHI2/ST3 plasmid in Salmonella. The clonal spread of NDM-1-producing ST34 S. Typhimurium across human and animal-associated environments, and the widespread dissemination of epidemic blaNDM-5-carrying IncHI2/ST3 plasmids among Enterobacteriaceae in China indicate the potential of further dissemination of blaNDM among Salmonella, which poses a threat to public health.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) are crucial in cell-assisted lipotransfer (CAL). ADSC-derived exosomes could improve the survival of CAL. Almost all relevant research now ignores ADSCs in favor of studying the proangiogenic potential of extracellular vesicles (EVs) on human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). OBJECTIVES: Given the significance of ADSCs in CAL, the authors sought to verify that EVs from ADSCs under hypoxia treatment can enhance the angiogenic potential of ADSCs. METHODS: EVs were harvested from human ADSCs (hADSCs) under normoxia and hypoxia. A Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assay was used to measure the proliferation of hADSCs. By examining the expression of CD31, vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2, and vascular endothelial growth factor, the pro-angiogenic differentiation potential was assessed. Moreover, a tube formation experiment was carried out to evaluate the pro-angiogenic differentiation potential. RESULTS: Hypoxic EVs showed more significant pro-proliferative and pro-angiogenic potential. Angiogenesis was more vigorous in hADSCs treated with hypoxic EVs than in those treated with nomorxic EVs. The hADSCs treated with hypoxic EVs expressed higher angiogenic markers, according to real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and Western blot analysis, which revealed more angiogenic marker expression in hypoxic EV-treated hADSCs. The same result was demonstrated by tube formation on Matrigel in vitro. CONCLUSIONS: Hypoxic EVs significantly increased the proliferation and angiogenic differentiation potential of hADSCs. Hypoxic EV-treated ADSCs may be beneficial to CAL and prevascularized tissue-engineered constructs.

RESUMO

Changing the frequency of light outside the laser cavity is essential for an integrated photonics platform, especially when the optical frequency of the on-chip light source is fixed or challenging to be tuned precisely. Previous on-chip frequency conversion demonstrations of multiple GHz have limitations of tuning the shifted frequency continuously. To achieve continuous on-chip optical frequency conversion, we electrically tune a lithium niobate ring resonator to induce adiabatic frequency conversion. In this work, frequency shifts of up to 14.3 GHz are achieved by adjusting the voltage of an RF control. With this technique, we can dynamically control light in a cavity within its photon lifetime by tuning the refractive index of the ring resonator electrically.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Unequal utilization of medical services will have a significant impact on the consumption of resources entitled through health insurance claims of patients. With the proposal of the goal of Healthy China, it is essential to achieve the equity of medical service utilization of patients with rare diseases to further promote social equity and justice. To analyze the consumption of medical resources of rare disease patients, so as to explore how different medical insurance types impact patients' medical resources consumption. This study pioneeringly used medical data from Peking Union Medical College Hospital. By analyzing the consumption data, this paper fills the research gap of existing studies on the analysis of medical service utilization inequality based on the perspective of insurance participation by examining the effects of different types of insurance coverage on medical resource consumption of hemophiliacs. At the same time, rare disease patients as a minority group have long been neglected in the analysis of medical resource consumption, and this paper fills the research gap of medical service utilization of this group to a certain extent by taking hemophiliacs as the object of analysis. METHODS: Based on the medical data of hemophilia patients in Peking Union Medical College Hospital from 2010 to 2020, we analyze the consumption of medical resources of the patients, and use a multiple regression model to explore how different medical insurance types impact patients' medical resources consumption. RESULTS: The study has three main findings. Firstly, the disparity in medical expenditure among different hemophilia patients is quite obvious, and the drug expense accounts for a large proportion of the total cost. Secondly, the ratio of reimbursement is generally low, and there is a wide difference in the amount of reimbursement for different types of medical insurance. Thirdly, the resource consumption of patients with different medical insurance types differs a lot. CONCLUSION: In order to improve the current medical insurance system and mechanism for providing orphan drugs, we put forward the following suggestions. First of all, the medical security system should expand its coverage to eliminate the medical expenditure gap between different hemophilia patients, therefore better promoting equity under the same insurance type. At the same time, the reimbursement level of medical expenses for patients with rare diseases should be appropriately improved, so as to reduce the financial burden of patients with rare diseases, and promote the realization of economic equity. In addition, society should pay special attention to the disadvantaged groups, reduce the differences between various medical insurance, and improve the level of health and equity of the whole society.

RESUMO

Precise revealing the mechanisms of excited-state intermolecular proton transfer (ESPT) and the corresponding geometrical relaxation upon photoexcitation and photoionization remains a formidable challenge. In this work, the compound (E)-4-(((4H-1,2,4-triazol-4-yl)imino)methyl)-2,6-dimethoxyphenol (TIMDP) adopting a D-π-A molecular architecture featuring a significant intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) effect has been designed. With the presence of perchloric acid (35 %), TIMDP can be dissolved through the formation of a HClO4 -H2 O-OH(TIMDP)-N(TIMDP) hydrogen-bonding bridge. At the ground state, the ICT effect is dominant, giving birth to crystals of TIMDP. Upon external stimuli (e.g., UV light irradiation, electro field), the excited state is achieved, which weakens the ICT effect, and significantly promotes the ESPT effect along the hydrogen-bonding bridge, resulting in crystals of [HTIMDP]+ ⋅[H2 O]⋅[ClO4 ]- . As a consequence, the mechanisms of the ESPT can be investigated, which distorted the D-π-A molecular architecture, tuned the emission color with the largest Stokes shift of 242 nm, and finally, high photoluminescence quantum yields (12 %) and long fluorescence lifetimes (8.6 µs) have achieved. These results not only provide new insight into ESPT mechanisms, but also open a new avenue for the design of efficient ESPT emitters.

RESUMO

The design and preparation of a porous high-valence metal-organic framework (MOF) featuring open coordination sites are of utmost importance for the development of adsorbent materials. Here in this work, the three-dimensional (3D) high-valence MOF [Er(dcbp)3/2(DMF)(H2O)2]·2H2O (HV-MOF-1; H2dcbp = 4,4'-dicarboxy-2,2'-bipyridine, DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide), which possesses permanent porosity and two open coordination sites, has been prepared and characterized. In the 3D framework, the dcbp molecules display two different bridging styles, resulting in ordered diamondlike pores with bared carboxyl oxygen and pyridine nitrogen atoms on dcbp exposed directly to the pores, generating hydrophilic characteristics and high water affinity. In addition, the open coordination sites act as arms to fix the adsorbed water molecules, providing high water adsorption capacity (5.95 mmol g-1) and selectivity. More importantly, the activated HV-MOF-1 species shows an energy-saving step for recycling (operation under 120 °C), demonstrating promise as a candidate for an adsorbent material with considerable water adsorption-desorption cycles.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Condylar displacement and remodeling are critically involved in occlusal and skeletal stability after orthognathic surgery. The aim of the present study was to characterize condylar displacement and surface remodeling after bimaxillary orthognathic surgery in adult patients with skeletal Class III malocclusion treated by the surgery-first approach (SFA) or the orthodontic-first approach (OFA). MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective cohort study recruited adult patients with mandibular hyperplasia treated with SFA or OFA. Simultaneous Le Fort I osteotomy for maxillary advancement and bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy for mandibular setback were performed in all patients. Original cone-beam computed tomographic data before surgery (T0), immediately after surgery (T1), and 12 months postoperatively (T2) were collected and reconstructed for 3-dimensional (3D) quantitative analyses. Three-dimensional condylar displacement and remodeling after SFA and OFA were characterized and statistically compared by Mann-Whitney U test and χ2 test. The significance level was set at a P value less than .05. RESULTS: Twenty-four (male-to-female ratio, 1:2; mean age, 21.2 yr) and 20 (male-to-female ratio, 1:1; mean age, 23.1 yr) patients were enrolled in the OFA and SFA groups, respectively. Condylar inferolateral displacement with inward and anterior rotations from T0 to T1 and return movements from T1 to T2 were observed regardless of treatment approach. Significantly greater amount of 3D bodily shift immediately after surgery (2.04 ± 1.05 mm in SFA group vs 1.22 ± 0.66 mm in OFA group; P < .05) and downward movement 1 year after surgery were observed in the SFA versus OFA group. Bone resorption in the condylar surface was prevalent and predominant in its lateral areas, whereas bone formation was frequently observed in the anteromedial area in the SFA (45%) and OFA (42.9%) groups. CONCLUSIONS: Similar patterns of 3D condylar displacement and surface remodeling were observed in patients treated with SFA or OFA.

RESUMO

A knowledge of the total amount of heavy metals is not enough to assess the environmental impact of polluted soils. Therefore, the determination of Cu fractions in sediment is important to evaluate its behavior in the environment and its mobilization capacity. The distribution of Cu (II) fractions in the sediment was studied in a laboratory simulation experiment. The results indicated that the distribution of Cu fractions was related to the concentration of Cu in sediments. In the Suaeda heteroptera group, the content of exchangeable and carbonate-bound were reducing, while the Fe-Mn oxide- and organic matter-bound were basically raising. In the Nereis succinea group, the content of Fe-Mn oxide- and organic matter-bound were from raising to reducing, and the residual was basically reducing with the increasing Cu concentrations. Generally speaking, the existence of N. succinea could enhance the uptake of Cu in the coastal sediment planted with S. heteroptera. When S. heteroptera and N. succinea in combination, effect of S. heteroptera and N. succinea on Cu fractions in sediments was significantly higher than the two working singly.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: The aim of the present study was to comprehensively summarize the epidemiological, clinicopathological characteristics, treatments as well as prognosis of Castleman's disease (CD) identified in the oral maxillofacial and neck region. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients with CD in the oral maxillofacial and neck were retrieved from disease registry at our institution from Jan. 1990 to Dec. 2015. Systematic reviews from both English and Chinese literature were performed to collect the detailed information about the oral maxillofacial and neck CD. The epidemiological, clinicopathological data and treatment outcomes were further statistically analyzed. RESULTS: Four patients with the oral maxillofacial and neck CD were identified and histologically confirmed as hyaline-vascular type. They underwent surgical excision without recurrence during the follow-up. Systematic literature reviews identified 221 cases from 123 eligible articles which satisfied the inclusion criteria. In 225 patients, most patients were diagnosed as unicentric (207) or hyaline-vascular type (205) of CD and identified in the neck, and treated by surgical resection with good prognosis. In contrast, the minority of patients was multicentric or plasma-cell/mixed type and treated by chemotherapy with inferior outcomes. Kaplan-Meir analyses revealed that both clinical and pathological types were significantly associated with patients' overall survival. CONCLUSIONS: Although rare, most cases of the oral maxillofacial neck CD are found in adults and classified as unicentric and hyaline-vascular type of CD. Complete surgical excision is preferred with favorable prognosis for unicentric disease, whereas chemotherapy is usually exploited for multicentric disease with inferior outcomes. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: These data provide comprehensive information about the epidemiology, clinicopathological features, treatments, and outcomes of the oral maxillofacial and neck CD.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: The aim of the present study was to assess the incidence and risk factors of ERR in second molars with mesially and horizontally impacted mandibular third molars using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) images from patients in a Chinese tertiary referral hospital. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total number of 216 patients with 362 mesially and horizontally impacted mandibular third molars who were treated at our institution from 2014 to 2015 was retrospectively included. The ERR in second molars was identified on CBCT multiplanar images. The associations between incidence of ERR and multiple clinical parameters were statistically analyzed by Chi-square test. Moreover, the risk factors for ERR in second molars were further assessed by multivariate regression analysis. RESULTS: The overall incidence of ERR in second molars was 20.17 % (73/362) as detected on CBCT images. The presence of ERR significantly associated with patients age and impaction depth of mandibular third molars. However, no significant relationship was found between ERR severity and impaction depth or ERR location. Multivariate regression analyses further revealed age over 35 years and impaction depth as important risk factors affecting the ERR incidence caused by mesial and horizontal impaction of mandibular third molar. CONCLUSIONS: ERR in second molar resulted from mesially and horizontally impacted mandibular third molar is not very rare and can be reliably identified via CBCT scan. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Given the possibility of ERR associated with third molar impaction, the prophylactic removal of these impacted teeth could be considered especially for those patients with over 35 years and mesially and horizontally impacted teeth.

RESUMO

Human endogenous retrovirus (HERV) sequences make up ~8% of the human genome and increased expression of some HERV proteins has been observed in various pathologies including leukaemia and multiple sclerosis. However, little is known about the function of these HERV proteins or environmental factors which regulate their expression. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are used very extensively as antimicrobials and antivirals in numerous consumer products although their effect on the expression of HERV gene products is unknown. Cell proliferation and cell toxicity assays were carried out on human acute T lymphoblastic leukaemia (MOLT-4) and Fanconi anaemia associated acute myeloid leukaemia (FA-AML1) cells treated with two different sizes of AgNPs (7nm and 50nm diameter). Reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction and western blotting were then used to the assess expression of HERV-W syncytin-1 mRNA and protein in these cells. FA-AML1 cells were more sensitive overall than MOLT-4 to treatment with the smaller 7nm sized AgNp's being the most toxic in these cells. MOLT-4 cell were more resistant and showed no evidence of differential toxicity to the different sized particles. Syncytin-1 mRNA and protein were induced by both 7 and 50nm AgNPs in both cell types yet with different kinetics. In summary, the observation that AgNPs induce expression of syncytin-1 in FA-AML1 and MOLT-4 cells at doses as little as 5 µg/ml is grounds for concern since this protein is up-regulated in both malignant and neurodegenerative diseases. Considering the widespread use of AgNPs in the environment it is clear that their ability to induce syncytin-1 should be investigated further in other cell types.

RESUMO

A magneto-metasurface is demonstrated for one-way transmission of terahertz (THz) waves and magnetic field sensing. Due to the magneto-optical effect and the asymmetric structure of the transmission system, magnetoplasmon mode splitting for forward and backward THz waves and one-way transmission has been observed in this magneto-metasurface. Significantly, the resonance of the magneto-metasurface has been found that can remain at 0.750 THz at a temperature of 218 K, performing as a stable isolator with an isolation of larger than 30 dB within a magnetic field disturbance from 0.23 to 0.35 T. Also, since the resonance of the magneto-metasurface can be tuned by the different external magnetic fields at a temperature that is higher or lower than 218 K, the magneto-metasurface can work as a highly sensitive magnetic field sensor. The sensitivity of this device reaches S=513.05 GHz·T(-1) when T=230 K. This multifunctional magneto-metasurface has broad potential in THz application systems.

RESUMO

Although subclinical persistent infections with the human polyomaviruses BKV and JCV are ubiquitous worldwide, these are known to vary in relation to diseases present and geographical location. DNAs from 220 cervical smears and 109 invasive cervical carcinomas obtained from HIV positive and HIV negative Kenyan women of known HPV status were analyzed by nested endpoint PCR for BKV and JCV. BKV-JCV DNA was detected in 5/105 (4.7%) of cervical smears and in 6/37 (16%) of cervical carcinomas from women infected with HIV whereas 9/115 (7.8%) of the cervical smears and 4/72 (5.5%) of the carcinomas were positive in HIV negative women. Nested PCR showed that all 24 samples were positive for JCV and not BKV. JCV was not more prevalent in either HPV positive (P = 0.438) or HPV negative women (P = 0.392). However, 37% of carcinomas and smears which were positive for JCV were also positive for a "high-risk" oncogenic HPV. Comparison of the incidence of JCV in cervical smears and cervical carcinomas showed a ∼3-fold increase in samples from HIV positive women with cervical carcinoma (P = 0.025) whereas no significant difference was found between cervical smears and cervical carcinomas from HIV negative women (P = 0.553). These results suggest that JCV may combine with high-risk HPV infection in women infected with HIV to influence the rate of progression to invasive cervical carcinoma.

RESUMO

Predicting the magnitude of herbicide impacts on marine primary productivity remains challenging because the extent of worldwide herbicide pollution in coastal waters and the concentration-response relationships of phytoplankton communities to multiple herbicides are unclear. By analyzing the spatiotemporal distribution of herbicides at 661 bay and gulf stations worldwide from 1990 to 2022, we determined median, third quartile and maximum concentrations of 12 triazine herbicides of 0.18 nmol L-1, 1.27 nmol L-1 and 29.50 nmol L-1 (95%Confidence Interval: CI 1.06, 1.47), respectively. Under current herbicide stress, phytoplankton primary productivity was inhibited by more than 5% at 25% of the sites and by more than 10% at 10% of the sites (95%CI 3.67, 4.34), due to the inhibition of highly abundant sensitive species, community structure/particle size succession (from Bacillariophyta to Dinophyceae and from nano-phytoplankton to micro-phytoplankton), and resulting growth rate reduction. Concurrently, due to food chain cascade effects, the dominant micro-zooplankton population shifted from larger copepod larvae to smaller unicellular ciliates, which might prolong the transmission process in marine food chain and reduce the primary productivity transmission efficiency. As herbicide application rates on farmlands worldwide are correlated with residues in their adjacent seas, a continued future increase in herbicide input may seriously affect the stability of coastal waters.

RESUMO

Intelligent manufacturing (IM), sometimes referred to as smart manufacturing (SM), is the use of real-time data analysis, machine learning, and artificial intelligence (AI) in the production process to achieve the aforementioned efficiencies. Human-machine interaction technology has recently been a hot issue in smart manufacturing. The unique interactivity of virtual reality (VR) innovations makes it possible to create a virtual world and allow users to communicate with that environment, providing users with an interface to be immersed in the digital world of the smart factory. And virtual reality technology aims to stimulate the imagination and creativity of creators to the maximum extent possible for reconstructing the natural world in a virtual environment, generating new emotions, and transcending time and space in the familiar and unfamiliar virtual world. Recent years have seen a great leap in the development of intelligent manufacturing and virtual reality technologies, yet little research has been done to combine the two popular trends. To fill this gap, this paper specifically employs Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis (PRISMA) guidelines to conduct a systematic review of the applications of virtual reality in smart manufacturing. Moreover, the practical challenges and the possible future direction will also be covered.

RESUMO

Background: Short videos on social media are playing an increasingly important role in cancer health education today. It is important to explore how the actual communication effect of health videos and the knowledge absorption of users are influenced by different factors of the video creation process. Objective: The objective of our study is to access the factors influencing breast cancer health education through short videos on efficiency and quality. Methods: Three pairs of videos about breast health were created and participants completed questionnaires before and after watching the videos. A paired t-test was used to analyze within-group change scores. RM-ANOVA was used to assess the relationship between the pretest, posttest, and three variables. Results: Watching short videos can significantly increase viewers' knowledge of related health topics (p < 0.05). The viewers' concentration level while watching was significantly higher for the video with background music (BGM) than for the video without BGM (p = 0.006). The viewers' willingness to share was significantly higher for the video with a progress bar than for the video without a progress bar (p = 0.02). Using an interpreter wearing a doctor's uniform instead of casual wear and setting a progress bar can significantly improve the efficiency of knowledge absorption (p < 0.05). Conclusion: A uniformed interpreter, BGM and a progress bar are factors influencing the efficiency of short health videos. They can be applied in video making to explore better ways of promoting cancer health education in the new mobile Internet environment.
