[Preliminary clinical and experimental data on a new anti-arrhythmic drug: lorcainide]. / Primi rilievi clinici e sperimentali su un nuovo antiaritmico: la lorcainide.

A first series of personal results in the treatment of arrhythmia with lorcainide is presented. Findings were obtained by recording for 24 hr with Holter and compared with those observed in patients treated with quinidine. An ECG study was also made of the atrial and nodal refractory periods. The conclusion is drawn that lorcainaide possesses an undoubted and protracted anti-arrhythmic effect, and does not exert a significant influence on refractory period values.

Hemodynamic classification of varicoceles in men: our experience.

AIM: The aim of this work is to propose a new hemodynamic classification of male varicoceles that can improve the accuracy of staging and the quality of the examination report. We retrospectively analyzed data on outpatients referred to our vascular ultrasonography service by general practitioners or urologists for work-up of "varicoceles." Quantification and characterization of venous reflux is essential for selecting patients who require treatment and for evaluating the latter's effectiveness, as demonstrated by our experience in a subgroup of 58 patients referred for imaging after surgery on endovascular procedures. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We performed scrotal Doppler sonography on 278 males seen during the period 2009-2011 for doubts raised during clinical assessment of varicoceles or for postoperative evaluation of residual reflux. RESULTS: The diagnosis of varicocele was confirmed on 193 subjects; in 32 patients who had undergone percutaneous or surgical treatment the examination demonstrated the presence of residual reflux, while in 85 cases the presence of pain or a scrotal mass was not associated with venous reflux. CONCLUSIONS: Standardized instrumental criteria have been developed for the diagnosis of varicoceles but not for their staging. The classification system we propose provides a simple, hemodynamically accurate method for qualitatively evaluating venous reflux, and it can be a useful tool for verifying the success of surgical and endovascular procedures for correcting varicoceles.

[Hbeag/Anti-hbe system and other markers for hepatitis b in a dialysis unit (author's transl)]. / Sistema HBeAg/anti-HBe ed altri markers: situazione in un centro di emodialisi.

The Authors study with radioimmunoassay for detection of HBeAg, anti-HBc, anti-HBs, anti-HBe, 22 patients on regular dialysis treatment, 41 their familiars, 10 staff dialysis unit members and 16 their familiars. There was found sure correlation between in the mean type presence of HBsAG and HBeAg and risk of infectious hepatitis B. The presence of the "e" antibody has not always protective significance and was stressed the importance of non parenteral virus transmission.

[Hyperlipemia and erythrocyte filterability]. / Iperlipemia e filtrabilità eritrocitaria.

The erythrocyte filterability was examined in 30 patients presenting identical values of fibrinogen and polymorphonuclear leucocytes (10 patients had normal values of lipemia, cholesterol and triglycerides and in the other 20 patients one or more of these parameters were altered). In the first group filterability values were homogeneous, while in the second group they were higher and widely dispersed. A close proportionality between the reduced filterability rate and cholesterolemic values was also found.
