The efficient synthesis of nanosheets containing two metal ions is currently a formidable challenge. Here, we attempted to dope lanthanide-based bimetals into porphyrin-based metal-organic skeleton materials (MOFs) by microwave-assisted heating. The results of the EDX, ICP, and XPS tests show that we have successfully synthesized porphyrin-based lanthanide bimetallic nanosheets (Tb-Eu-TCPP) using a household microwave oven. In addition, it is tested and experimentally evident that these nanosheets have a thinner thickness, a larger BET surface area, and higher photogenerated carrier separation efficiency than bulk porphyrin-based bimetallic materials, thus exhibiting enhanced photocatalytic activity and n-type semiconductor properties. Furthermore, the prepared Tb-Eu-TCPP nanomaterials are more efficient in generating single-linear state oxygen under visible light irradiation compared to pristine monometallic nanosheets due to the generation of bimetallic nodes. The significant increase in catalytic activity is attributed to the improved separation and transfer efficiency of photogenerated carriers. This study not only deepens our understanding of lanthanide bimetallic nanosheet materials but also introduces an innovative approach to improve the photocatalytic performance of MOFs.

Lanthanide organic frameworks (Ln-MOFs) have attracted increasing research enthusiasm as photoluminescent materials. However, limited luminescence efficiency stemming from restricted energy transfer efficiency from the organic linker to the metal center hinders their applications. Herein, a uranyl sensitization approach was proposed to boost the luminescence efficiency of Ln-MOFs in a distinct heterobimetallic uranyl-europium organic framework. The record-breaking photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY, 92.68%) among all reported Eu-MOFs was determined to benefit from nearly 100% energy transfer efficiency between UO22+ and Eu3+. Time-dependent density functional theory and ab initio wave-function theory calculations confirmed the overlap of excited state levels between UO22+ and Eu3+, which is responsible for the efficient energy transfer process. Coupled with intrinsically strong stopping power toward X-ray of the uranium center, SCU-UEu-2 features an ultralow detection limit of 1.243 µGyair/s, outperforming the commercial scintillator LYSO (13.257 µGyair/s) and satisfying the requirement of X-ray diagnosis (below 5.5 µGyair/s) in full.

The calixarenes are ideal building blocks for constructing photocatalytic covalent organic frameworks (COFs), owing to their electron-rich and bowl-shaped π cavities that endow them with electron-donating and adsorption properties. However, the synthesis and structural confirmation of COFs based on calixarenes are still challenging due to their structural flexibility and conformational diversity. In this study, a calix[4]arene-derived 2D COF is synthesized using 5,11,17,23-tetrakis(p-formyl)-25,26,27,28-tetrahydroxycalix[4]arene (CHO-C4A) as the electron donor and 4,7-bis(4-aminophenyl)-2,1,3-benzothiadiazole (BTD) as the acceptor. The powder X-ray diffraction data and theoretical simulation of crystal structure indicate that COF-C4A-BTD exhibits high crystallinity and features a non-interpenetrating undulating 2D layered structure with AA-stacking. The density functional theory theoretical calculation, transient-state photocurrent tests, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy confirm the intramolecular charge transfer behavior of COF-C4A-BTD with a donor-acceptor structure, leading to its superior visible-light-driven photocatalytic activity. COF-C4A-BTD exhibits a narrow band gap of 1.99 eV and a conduction band energy of -0.37 V versus normal hydrogen electrode. The appropriate energy band structure can facilitate the participation of ·O2- and h+ . COF-C4A-BTD demonstrates high efficacy in removing organic pollutants, such as bisphenol A, rhodamine B, and methylene blue, with removal rates of 66%, 85%, and 99% respectively.

OBJECTIVES: To develop and evaluate an artificial intelligence (AI) system that can automatically calculate the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) from dynamic renal imaging without manually delineating the regions of interest (ROIs) of kidneys and the corresponding background. METHODS: This study was a single-center retrospective analysis of the data of 14,634 patients who underwent 99mTc-DTPA dynamic renal imaging. Two systems based on convolutional neural networks (CNN) were developed and evaluated: sGFRa predicts the radioactive counts of ROIs and calculates GFR using the Gates equation and sGFRb directly predicts GFR from dynamic renal imaging without using other information. The root-mean-square error (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE), mean absolute percentage error (MAPE), and R2 were used to evaluate the performance of our approach. RESULTS: sGFRa achieved an RMSE of 5.05, MAE of 4.03, MAPE of 6.07%, and R2 of 0.93 for total GFR while sGFRb achieved an RMSE of 7.61, MAE of 5.92, MAPE of 8.92%, and R2 of 0.85 for total GFR. The accuracy of sGFRa and sGFRb in determining the stage of chronic kidney disease was 87.41% and 82.44%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: The findings of sGFRa show that automatic GFR calculation based on CNN and using dynamic renal imaging is feasible and efficient and, additionally, can aid clinical diagnosis. Furthermore, the promising results of sGFRb demonstrate that CNN can predict GFR from dynamic renal imaging without additional information. With the growing demand for X-ray imaging, especially for three-dimensional objects with curved surfaces, a large-area flexible X-ray imaging membrane based on scintillating materials becomes the focus of vigorous investigation. Among the developed scintillators, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) featuring tunable photophysical properties and marked luminescence stability hold great promise for serving as ideal X-ray scintillators. Here, we report a flexible composite scintillating membrane with superior imaging performance. The membrane is achieved by embedding an aggregation-induced emission (AIE) luminogen (AIEgen, H4ETTC)-functionalized MOF scintillator (Y-PCN-94) into a polymer matrix (PDMS). Notably, Y-PCN-94 exhibits a strong AIE effect under both ultraviolet (UV) light and X-ray irradiation, which is also the first time that the AIE effect was observed in the MOF system under an ionizing radiation field. This also gives the material promising radioluminescence properties, such as a low X-ray detection limit (1.6 µGy s-1) and high imaging resolution (>14.3 lp mm-1), which can be mainly attributed to the combination of the AIE effect and strong X-ray stopping power. This work demonstrates that incorporating AIEgens into MOFs or other frameworks can offer an alternative approach for producing high-performance X-ray scintillators.

Staphylococcus aureus, a major opportunistic pathogen in aerobic vaginitis (AV), can potentially invade the host and occasionally cause infections. Estrogen is associated with an altered immune response of vaginal epithelial cells and prevention of certain vaginal infectious diseases. However, the molecular mechanisms involving estrogen and S. aureus adhesion to vaginal epithelial cells remain unclear. Thus, here, VK2/E6E7 vaginal epithelial cells were infected with S. aureus, and the role of the estrogen receptor α-associated signaling pathway (ERα/FAK/Src/iNOS axis) in S. aureus adhesion was evaluated. The estrogen-associated phosphorylation status of ERα, FAK, and Src and the protein level of iNOS were assessed by western blotting. We used a specific ERα inhibitor to validate the involvement of the ERα-associated signaling pathway. The results showed that with exposure to 1 nM estrogen for 24 h, transient ERα-associated pathway activation was observed, and the protein expression upregulation was accompanied by a dose-dependent increase in 17-ß-estradiol (E2) content and increased S. aureus adherence to vaginal epithelial cells. Estrogen-induced activation of the ERα/FAK/Src/iNOS axis was notably inhibited by the specific ERα inhibitor (ICI 182780). Simultaneously, a significant decrease in the number of adherent S. aureus was observed. However, this inhibitory effect diminished after inhibitor treatment for 24 h. Our findings suggested that the ERα-associated signaling pathway might be involved in S. aureus adherence to vaginal epithelial cells, which appeared to be linked to enhanced cell adhesion leading to AV.

OBJECTIVE: Changing insights regarding the extent of surgery for low-risk papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) stir up discussions on the benefits and harms of thyroid lobectomy versus total thyroidectomy. The chance of needing postoperative thyroid hormone supplementation after thyroid lobectomy is still unclear. The purpose of this retrospective two-center study was to identify the incidence and risk factors of postoperative thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) elevation (>2.0 µIU/ml) after thyroid lobectomy for low-risk PTC. DESIGN AND METHODS: Medical records of 201 consecutive patients with low-risk PTC from two tertiary centers who underwent thyroid lobectomy between 2015 and 2019 were retrospectively reviewed. Postoperative thyroid function tests were measured regularly and patients were prescribed levothyroxine if the TSH level was higher than 2.0 µIU/ml. Multivariable regression models were used to evaluate potential risk factors associated with postoperative TSH elevation after thyroid lobectomy. RESULTS: At 6 weeks postoperatively, 85% had TSH level of >2 µIU/ml; this increased to 88% by 3-6 months. Receiver operating characteristic analysis identified preoperative TSH cut-off (>1.7 µIU/ml) to predict postoperative TSH elevation. Multivariate analysis revealed that only a high preoperative TSH level (>1.7 µIU/ml) was an independent risk factor for a postoperative TSH level of >2 µIU/ml (odds ratio = 7.71; p < .001). CONCLUSION: Nearly 90% of the patients who underwent thyroid lobectomy for low-risk PTC had a postoperative TSH level of >2 µIU/ml, necessitating thyroid hormone supplementation in accordance with current guidelines. This finding highlights that preoperative patient counseling should also focus on raising awareness about postoperative thyroid hormone supplementation for low-risk PTC patients seeking thyroid lobectomy.

Estrogen, the predominant sex hormone, has been found to be related to the occurrence of vaginal infectious diseases. However, its role in the occurrence and development of bacterial vaginitis caused by Escherichia coli is still unclear. The objective of this study was to investigate the role of 17ß-estrogen in E. coli adhesion on human vaginal epithelial cells. The vaginal epithelial cell line VK2/E6E7 was used to study the molecular events induced by estrogen between E. coli and cells. An adhesion study was performed to evaluate the involvement of the estrogen-dependent focal adhesion kinase (FAK) activation with cell adhesion. The phosphorylation status of FAK and estrogen receptor α (ERα) upon estrogen challenge was assessed by Western blotting. Specific inhibitors for ERα were used to validate the involvement of ERα-FAK signaling cascade. The results showed that, following stimulation with 1,000 nM estrogen for 48 h, transient activation of ERα and FAK was observed, as was an increased average number of E. coli cells adhering to vaginal epithelial cells. In addition, estrogen-induced activation of ERα and FAK was inhibited by the specific inhibitor of ERα, especially when the inhibitor reached a 10 µM concentration and acted for 1 h, and a decrease in the number of adherent E. coli cells was observed simultaneously. However, this inhibitory effect diminished as the concentration of estrogen increased. In conclusion, FAK and ERα signaling cascades were associated with the increasing E. coli adherence to vaginal epithelial cells, which was promoted by a certain concentration of estrogen.

BACKGROUND: 99mTc-pertechnetate thyroid scintigraphy is a valid complementary avenue for evaluating thyroid disease in the clinic, the image feature of thyroid scintigram is relatively simple but the interpretation still has a moderate consistency among physicians. Thus, we aimed to develop an artificial intelligence (AI) system to automatically classify the four patterns of thyroid scintigram. METHODS: We collected 3087 thyroid scintigrams from center 1 to construct the training dataset (n = 2468) and internal validating dataset (n = 619), and another 302 cases from center 2 as external validating datasets. Four pre-trained neural networks that included ResNet50, DenseNet169, InceptionV3, and InceptionResNetV2 were implemented to construct AI models. The models were trained separately with transfer learning. We evaluated each model's performance with metrics as following: accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV), recall, precision, and F1-score. RESULTS: The overall accuracy of four pre-trained neural networks in classifying four common uptake patterns of thyroid scintigrams all exceeded 90%, and the InceptionV3 stands out from others. It reached the highest performance with an overall accuracy of 92.73% for internal validation and 87.75% for external validation, respectively. As for each category of thyroid scintigrams, the area under the receiver operator characteristic curve (AUC) was 0.986 for 'diffusely increased,' 0.997 for 'diffusely decreased,' 0.998 for 'focal increased,' and 0.945 for 'heterogeneous uptake' in internal validation, respectively. Accordingly, the corresponding performances also obtained an ideal result of 0.939, 1.000, 0.974, and 0.915 in external validation, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Deep convolutional neural network-based AI model represented considerable performance in the classification of thyroid scintigrams, which may help physicians improve the interpretation of thyroid scintigrams more consistently and efficiently.

BACKGROUND: We aimed to construct an artificial intelligence (AI) guided identification of suspicious bone metastatic lesions from the whole-body bone scintigraphy (WBS) images by convolutional neural networks (CNNs). METHODS: We retrospectively collected the 99mTc-MDP WBS images with confirmed bone lesions from 3352 patients with malignancy. 14,972 bone lesions were delineated manually by physicians and annotated as benign and malignant. The lesion-based differentiating performance of the proposed network was evaluated by fivefold cross validation, and compared with the other three popular CNN architectures for medical imaging. The average sensitivity, specificity, accuracy and the area under receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) were calculated. To delve the outcomes of this study, we conducted subgroup analyses, including lesion burden number and tumor type for the classifying ability of the CNN. RESULTS: In the fivefold cross validation, our proposed network reached the best average accuracy (81.23%) in identifying suspicious bone lesions compared with InceptionV3 (80.61%), VGG16 (81.13%) and DenseNet169 (76.71%). Additionally, the CNN model's lesion-based average sensitivity and specificity were 81.30% and 81.14%, respectively. Based on the lesion burden numbers of each image, the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) was 0.847 in the few group (lesion number n ≤ 3), 0.838 in the medium group (n = 4-6), and 0.862 in the extensive group (n > 6). For the three major primary tumor types, the CNN-based lesion identifying AUC value was 0.870 for lung cancer, 0.900 for prostate cancer, and 0.899 for breast cancer. CONCLUSION: The CNN model suggests potential in identifying suspicious benign and malignant bone lesions from whole-body bone scintigraphic images.

BACKGROUND: The utility of integrated single-photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (SPECT/CT) in children and young adults with differentiated thyroid carcinoma is incompletely studied. OBJECTIVE: To determine the value of adding SPECT/CT to conventional whole-body scintigraphy in post-ablation iodine-131 (131I) scintigraphy for children and young adults with differentiated thyroid carcinoma. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Planar scintigraphy and SPECT/CT were performed on 42 post-surgical children and young adults (32 female, 10 male; mean age 14.3±4.9 years, range 7-20 years) with differentiated thyroid carcinoma (39 papillary, 2 follicular, 1 mixed) 5 days after the therapeutic administration of 1.9-7.4 GBq of 131I. Planar and SPECT/CT images were interpreted independently, and sites of uptake were categorized as positive or equivocal with respect to thyroid bed, lymph node and distant metastasis uptake. An experienced thyroid endocrinologist used a combination of surgical histopathology and scintigraphic findings to determine whether the addition of SPECT/CT would change patient management. RESULTS: Planar scintigraphy evidenced 88 radioiodine-avid foci and SPECT/CT confirmed all foci. No additional foci were disclosed by SPECT/CT. SPECT/CT correctly classified 16/88 (18%) foci that were unclear or wrongly classified at planar scintigraphy. Globally, SPECT/CT showed an incremental value over planar scintigraphy in 9 (21.4%) patients and changed therapeutic management in 3 (7.1%; 95% confidence interval, 2-20%) patients. CONCLUSION: SPECT/CT improved localization and characterization of focal 131I uptake on post-ablation whole-body scintigraphy in children and young adults with differentiated thyroid carcinoma. Further prospective evaluation in a larger series is justified to prove the effect of post-ablation SPECT/CT-based management decisions.

BACKGROUND: Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) are one of the most commonly described urination disorders worldwide. Previous investigations have focused predominantly on the prospective identification of cases that meet the researchers' criteria; thus, the genuine demands regarding LUTS from patients and related issues may be neglected. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to examine web-based search trends and behaviors related to LUTS on a national and regional scale by using the dominant, major search engine in mainland China. METHODS: Baidu Index was queried by using LUTS-related terms for the period of January 2011 to September 2020. The search volume for each term was recorded to analyze search trends and demographic distributions. For user interest, user demand graph data and trend data were collected and analyzed. RESULTS: Of the 13 LUTS domains, 11 domains are available in the Baidu Index database. The Baidu search index for each LUTS domain varied from 37.78% to 1.47%. The search trends for urinary frequency (2011-2018: annual percent change APC=7.82%; P<.001), incomplete emptying (2011-2014: APC=17.74%; P<.001), nocturia (2011-2018: APC=11.54%; P<.001), dysuria (2017-2020: APC=20.77%; P<.001), and incontinence (2011-2016: APC=13.39%; P<.001) exhibited fluctuations over time. The search index trends for weak stream (2011-2017: APC=-4.68%; P<.001; 2017-2020: APC=9.32%; P=.23), split stream (2011-2013: APC=9.50%; P=.44; 2013-2020: APC=2.05%; P=.71), urgency (2011-2018: APC=-2.63%; P=.03; 2018-2020: APC=8.58%; P=.19), and nocturnal enuresis (2011-2018: APC=-3.20%; P=.001; 2018-2020: APC=-4.21%; P=.04) remained relatively stable and consistent. The age distribution of the population for all LUTS-related inquiries showed that individuals aged 20 to 40 years made 73.86% (49,218,123/66,635,247) of the total search inquiries. Further, individuals aged 40 to 49 years made 12.29% (8,193,922/66,635,247) of the total search inquiries for all LUTS-related terms. People from the east part of China made 67.79% (45,172,031/66,635,247) of the total search queries. Additionally, most of the searches for LUTS-related terms were related to those for urinary diseases to varying degrees. CONCLUSIONS: Web-based interest in LUTS-related terms fluctuated wildly and was reflected timely by Baidu Index in mainland China. The web-based search popularity of each LUTS-related term varied significantly and differed based on personal interests, the population's concerns, regional variations, and gender. These data can be used by care providers to track the prevalence of LUTS and the population's interests, guide the establishment of disease-specific health care policies, and optimize physician-patient health care sessions.

Vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC) caused by Candida spp. affects 70-75% of women at least once during their lives. We aim to elucidate the potential mechanism of VVC and investigate the therapeutic effects of long noncoding RNA 9708-1. Female BALB/c mice were randomized to four treatment groups, including the blank control group, VVC control group, vehicle control group and lncRNA 9708-1-overexpressed group. Mice were euthanized on Day 4, Day 7 and Day 14 after treatment. Colony-forming unit (CFU) was measured, and the inflammation was detected by hematoxylin and eosin (H&E). Gene and protein expression levels of lncRNA 9708-1 and FAK were determined by real-time PCR, Western blot and immunohistochemistry. The overexpression of lncRNA 9708-1 significantly decreased the fungal load from Day 4 to 7. H&E staining indicated that the impaired histological profiles were improved in lncRNA 9708-1-overexpressed group. LncRNA 9708-1 led to a significant increase in FAK level of vagina tissue which is expressed mainly in epithelial basal layer. This study suggests that lncRNA 9708-1 played a protective role on murine experimental VVC by upregulating the expression levels of FAK.

Background. Despite the danger of infection during the outbreak of the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Wuhan, many patients still need surgical treatment. Most elective surgeries were delayed because of the public health emergency. However, when patients have life-threatening emergencies or illnesses, surgeries are often needed as soon as possible. Moreover, due to hospital overcrowding during the COVID-19 outbreak, healthcare professionals initially struggled to address the issue due to a lack of experience. This is especially true for day surgery centers with higher patient mobility. Methods. We remodeled pathways to separate patients and medical personnel to minimize the COVID-19 infection rate. Further, strategies for medical staff education and potential patient education, ward disinfection and maintenance, setup with 3 more screening stations, patient and companion management, medical staff management, and perioperative management were implemented before starting elective day surgery. Results. From February 11 to March 11 in 2020, 202 day surgeries were performed. These were all elective surgeries and included ultrasound-guided Mammotome biopsy, endoscopic polypectomy, hernia repair, pediatric surgeries, cholecystectomy, choledochoscopy, radical mastectomy, percutaneous transhepatic cholangial drainage, liver biopsy, video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery, laparoscopic resection of colon cancer, colostomy apotheosis, and varicose vein surgery. On days 7, 14, and 30 after discharge, no postoperative complications were reported or infection of COVID-19 cases was reported. Conclusions. Using scientific and well-designed protocols, day surgery can ensure quality surgical care with while ensuring medical safety during the COVID-19 outbreak. OBJECTIVE: Postablation whole-body scintigraphy, which is performed 5-7 days after administration of ablation activity of radioactive iodine-131 (131 I) in patients with thyroid cancer, is considered a routine procedure for remnant ablation and a useful tool for disease staging. However, the relationship of pre-ablation stimulated thyroglobulin (s-Tg) levels with postablation scintigraphic findings has not been evaluated. The current study was designed to determine the diagnostic value of postablation 131 I scintigraphy during initial staging and risk stratification in intermediate-risk papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) patients with pre-ablation s-Tg < 1 ng/ml at the time of ablation. DESIGN: From January 2013 to July 2015, consecutive PTC patients at intermediate-risk of recurrence according to American Thyroid Association criteria were prospectively recruited. Patients had to have pre-ablation s-Tg < 1 ng/ml in the absence of anti-Tg antibody at the time of ablation. Systematic pre-ablation neck ultrasonography was performed for each patient. Postablation whole-body planar scintigraphy was obtained 5 days after administration of ablation activity of 131 I. Single photon emission computed tomography/low-dose computed tomography was added for patients whose planar findings were inconclusive. RESULTS: Among 756 patients ablated, 240 (31·7%) patients were eligible for the analysis. Pre-ablation neck ultrasonography revealed lymph node metastases in eight of the 240 patients. Postablation scintigraphy showed ectopic neck uptake corresponding to the lymph nodes seen by ultrasonography in four patients and revealed neck lymph node metastases in another two patients whose ultrasonography findings were negative. None of the 240 patients showed distant metastasis on postablation scintigraphy. Neither staging nor initial risk stratification was altered by postablation scintigraphy in the included patients with pre-ablation s-Tg < 1 ng/ml. CONCLUSIONS: As postablation whole-body scintigraphy played a minimal role in improving staging or initial risk stratification in intermediate-risk PTC patients with pre-ablation s-Tg < 1 ng/ml, we propose that postablation scintigraphy may be omitted in this group of patients. Multi-institutional larger studies are necessary to draw definitive conclusions.

The use of mycobacteriophage D29 to treat Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB)-infected macrophages results in significant inhibitory activity. This study aims to explore the novel treatment strategy of intracellular mycobacterial infection from the point of view of phages. We investigated the dynamic phagocytosis and elimination of D29 by macrophages, measured the titer of D29 inside and outside MTB within macrophages by fluorescence quantitative PCR, and detected the levels of interleukin 12 (IL-12) and nitric oxide (NO) in the culture supernatants of D29-infected macrophages by ELISA. Results showed that the activity of D29 phagocytosed by macrophages was significantly lower than that of D29 phagocytosed by MTB-infected macrophages. The titer of D29 that infected intracellular MTB ranged from 10(9) pfu to 10(4) pfu. The titer of D29 inside and outside intracellular MTB transiently increased when MTB-infected macrophages were incubated with D29 for 40 and 50 min; then, a large number of D29 were eliminated by macrophages. The levels of IL-12 and NO had no significant differences versus the negative control but were significantly lower compared with the lipopolysaccharide (LPS) positive control. These results suggest D29 has no effect on the immune function of macrophages and that high phage titer must be administered repeatedly if D29 is applied to treat intracellular MTB infection.

ABSTRACT: A 57-year-old woman who had persistent symptoms of transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis underwent 99m Tc-pyrophosphate ( 99m Tc-PYP) scintigraphy. The 99m Tc-PYP planar and SPECT/CT fusion image showed diffuse myocardial uptake and multiple fractures of the sternum and ribs. These fractures interfered with semiquantitative scores of 99m Tc-PYP uptake, leading to false positive in 99m Tc-PYP imaging.

ABSTRACT: We described the findings of 68Ga-FAPI-04 PET/CT of psoriatic arthritis in a 56-year-old man. Intense FAPI uptake was observed alongside the spine and in the joints of bilateral feet and the right hip. 68Ga-FAPI PET/CT is potentially valuable for the evaluation of join involvement and disease activity in patients with psoriasis.

Campylotropis xinfeniae, a new species from the dry-hot valley of the Jinsha River in the Yunnan province, China, is described and illustrated. It is morphologically similar to C. wilsonii and C. brevifolia in having glabrescent old branches, absent stipels, 3-foliolate leaves, and adaxially puberulent leaflets, while it differs from the latter two in having often paniculate inflorescences, obviously white standard, not incurved sickle keel, larger narrowly oblique legumes, and longer legume beak. The complete chloroplast genome of this new species is 149,073 bp in length and exhibits a typical quadripartite structure. Phylogenetic analyses based on the complete chloroplast genome also supported C. xinfeniae as a new species located at the basal distinct clade of the genus Campylotropis, clearly separated from the remaining members of the genus and its allied genera. A conservation assessment of data deficient (DD) is recommended for the new species without extensive exploring of similar habitats according to the IUCN Categories and Criteria.

Regulation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation from radical to non-radical pathways is an emerging focus of advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) due to its superiority of anti-interference to complex wastewater. However, the detailed correlation mechanism between the defect structure of the catalyst and the regulation of radicals/non-radicals remains unclear. Herein, natural chalcopyrite (CuFeS2) with different levels of S vacancies created by a simple NaBH4 reduction process was employed to explore the above-mentioned underlying mechanism for constructing high efficiency and low cost of catalyst towards AOPs. With the assistance of simulated solar light, S-deficient chalcopyrite (Sv-NCP) exhibited prominent performance for PMS activation. More interestingly, the different degrees of S vacancies regulated the active species from radicals to non-radical 1O2, thus showing excellent purification of complex wastewater as well as actual pharmaceutical wastewater. Mechanistic analysis reveals that PMS tends to loss electrons on S vacancies sites and is dissociated into 1O2 rather than ·OH/SO4·- due to electron deficiency. Meanwhile, the improved adsorption performance makes the degradation sites of pollutants change from solution to surface. Most importantly, Sv-NCP presented excellent detoxication for antibiotic wastewater due to the high selectivity of 1O2. This work provides novel insights into the regulation of active species in Fenton-like reactions via defect engineering for high efficiency of pollutant degradation.
