RESUMO
Thinner than 10 nm layers of bismuth (Bi) were grown on (111) Si substrates by molecular beam epitaxy. Terahertz (THz) radiation pulses from these layers excited by tunable wavelength femtosecond optical pulses were measured. THz emission sets on when the photon energy exceeds 0.45 eV, which was explained by the semimetal-to-semiconductor transition at this Bi layer thickness. A THz signal has both isotropic and anisotropic components that could be caused by the lack of balance of lateral photocurrent components and the shift currents, respectively.
RESUMO
The present study introduces a novel method for the synthesis of magneto-plasmonic nanoparticles (MPNPs) with enhanced functionality for surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) applications. By employing pulsed laser ablation in liquid (PLAL) to synthesize plasmonic nanoparticles and wet chemistry to synthesize magnetic nanoparticles, we successfully fabricated chemically pure hybrid Fe3O4@Au and Fe3O4@Ag nanoparticles. We demonstrated a straightforward approach of an electrostatic attachment of the plasmonic and magnetic parts using positively charged polyethylenimine. The MPNPs displayed high SERS sensitivity and reproducibility, and the magnetic part allowed for the controlled separation of the nanoparticles from the reaction mixture, their subsequent concentration, and their precise deposition onto a specified surface area. Additionally, we fabricated alloy based MPNPs from AgxAu100-x (x = 50 and 80 wt %) targets with distinct localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) wavelengths. The compositions, morphologies, and optical properties of the nanoparticles were characterized by using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV-vis spectroscopy, and multiwavelength Raman spectroscopy. A standard SERS marker, 4-mercaptobenzoic acid (4-MBA), validated the enhancement properties of the MPNPs and found an enhancement factor of 2 × 108 for the Fe3O4@Ag nanoparticles at 633 nm excitation. Lastly, we applied MPNP-enhanced Raman spectroscopy for the analysis of the biologically relevant molecule adenine and found a limit of detection of 10-7 M at 785 nm excitation. The integration of PLAL and wet chemical methods enabled the relatively fast and cost-effective production of MPNPs characterized by high SERS sensitivity and signal reproducibility that are required in various fields, including biomedicine, food safety, materials science, security, and defense.
RESUMO
Antimony selenide (Sb2Se3) material has drawn considerable attention as an Earth-abundant and non-toxic photovoltaic absorber. The power conversion efficiency of Sb2Se3-based solar cells increased from less than 2% to over 10% in a decade. Different deposition methods were implemented to synthesize Sb2Se3 thin films, and various device structures were tested. In search of a more environmentally friendly device composition, the common CdS buffer layer is being replaced with oxides. It was identified that on oxide substrates such as TiO2 using vacuum-based close-space deposition methods, an intermediate deposition step was required to produce high-quality thin films. However, little or no investigation was carried out using another very successful vacuum deposition approach in Sb2Se3 technology called vapour transport deposition (VTD). In this work, we present optimized VTD process conditions to achieve compact, pinhole-free, ultra-thin (<400 nm) Sb2Se3 absorber layers. Three process steps were designed to first deposit the seed layer, then anneal it and, at the final stage, deposit a complete Sb2Se3 absorber. Fabricated solar cells using absorbers as thin as 400 nm generated a short-circuit current density over 30 mA/cm2, which demonstrates both the very high absorption capabilities of Sb2Se3 material and the prospects for ultra-thin solar cell application.
RESUMO
Performance of a perovskite solar cell is largely influenced by the optoelectronic properties of metal halide perovskite films. Here we study the influence of cesium concentration on morphology, crystal structure, photoluminescence and optical properties of the triple cation perovskite film. Incorporation of small amount (x = 0.1) of cesium cations into Csx(MA0.17FA0.83)1−x Pb(I0.83Br0.17)3 leads to enhanced power conversion efficiency (PCE) of the solar cell resulting mainly from significant rise of the short-current density and the fill factor value. Further increase of Cs concentration (x > 0.1) decreases the film's phase purity, carrier lifetime and correspondingly reduces PCE of the solar cell. Higher concentration of Cs (x ≥ 0.2) causes phase segregation of the perovskite alongside with formation of Cs-rich regions impeding light absorption.
RESUMO
The high efficiency of perovskite solar cells strongly depends on the quality of perovskite films and carrier extraction layers. Here, we present the results of an investigation of the photoelectric properties of solar cells based on perovskite films grown on compact and mesoporous titanium dioxide layers. Kinetics of charge carrier transport and their extraction in triple-cation perovskite solar cells were studied by using transient photovoltage and time-resolved photoluminescence decay measurements. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that the crystallinity of the perovskite films grown on mesoporous titanium dioxide is better compared to the films grown on compact TiO2. Mesoporous structured perovskite solar cells are found to have higher power conversion efficiency mainly due to enlarged perovskite/mesoporous -TiO2 interfacial area and better crystallinity of their perovskite films.
RESUMO
Background: The development of organic/inorganic metal halide perovskites has seen unprecedent growth since their first recognition for applications in optoelectronic devices. However, their thermodynamic stability and toxicity remains a challenge considering wide-scale deployment in the future. This spurred an interest in search of perovskite-inspired materials which are expected to retain the advantageous material characteristics of halide perovskites, but with high thermodynamic stability and composed of earth-abundant and low toxicity elements. ABX 3 chalcogenides (A, B=metals, X=Se, S) have been identified as potential class of materials meeting the aforementioned criteria. Methods: In this work, we focus on studying tin zirconium selenide (SnZrSe 3) relevant physical properties with an aim to evaluate its prospects for application in optoelectronics. SnZrSe 3 powder and monocrystals were synthesized via solid state reaction in 600 - 800 °C temperature range. Crystalline structure was determined using single crystal and powder X-ray diffraction methods. The bandgap was estimated from diffused reflectance measurements on powder samples and electrical properties of crystals were analysed from temperature dependent I-V measurements. Results: We found that SnZrSe 3 crystals have a needle-like structure (space group - Pnma) with following unit cell parameters: a=9.5862(4) Å, b=3.84427(10) Å, c=14.3959(5) Å. The origin of the low symmetry crystalline structure was associated with stereochemical active electron lone pair of Sn cation. Estimated bandgap was around 1.15 eV which was higher than measured previously and predicted theoretically. Additionally, it was found that resistivity and conductivity type depended on the compound chemical composition. Conclusions: Absorption edge in the infrared region and bipolar dopability makes SnZrSe 3 an interesting material candidate for application in earth-abundant and non-toxic single/multi-junction solar cells or other infrared based optoelectronic devices.
RESUMO
Electron dynamics in the polycrystalline bismuth films were investigated by measuring emitted terahertz (THz) radiation pulses after their photoexcitation by tunable wavelength femtosecond duration optical pulses. Bi films were grown on metallic Au, Pt, and Ag substrates by the electrodeposition method with the Triton X-100 electrolyte additive, which allowed us to obtain more uniform films with consistent grain sizes on any substrate. It was shown that THz pulses are generated due to the spatial separation of photoexcited electrons and holes diffusing from the illuminated surface at different rates. The THz photoconductivity spectra analysis has led to a conclusion that the thermalization of more mobile carriers (electrons) is dominated by the carrier-carrier scattering rather than by their interaction with the lattice.
RESUMO
Pu distribution coefficient Kd variation was experimentally determined and examined in natural soil samples considering the type of soil, particle size, pH, the concentration of macroelements and organic matter content. This research was carried out with sand, silty sand, peat, clayey sand and clayey loam samples by applying 236Pu tracer in flow-through column tests. Due to relatively short contact time of 0.5-40 h the tests are considered as have not reached equilibrium state and represent the fast-moving contaminants retardation processes closer to field conditions. Every soil sample was fractionated into two particle size fractions: ≤0.25 mm and 0.25 ÷ 0.5 mm. Analysis revealed that Kd of Pu is higher for the smaller soil particle fraction (≤0.25 mm). The experimental study with 1.6, 4, 6 and 9 pH tracer solution revealed a tendency of elevated Kd when 4 pH and 6 pH solutions were applied, but obtained Kd values were not correlated with initial soil pH due to high buffering capacity of soils. This study shows a very significant influence (r = 0.98) of organic matter content on the Pu distribution coefficient. The Kd of Pu for the fine fraction of peat soil with high organic matter content (67%) reached maximum values of 6597 L/kg and 6200 L/kg when tracer solution was applied of pH = 4 and pH = 6, respectively. In comparison, the minimum Kd value of 3.9 L/kg was obtained for the coarse silty sand fraction with the lowest organic matter content of 1.3% at tracer pH = 1.6. A statistically reliable high correlations of r = 0.95 and 0.94 were also observed between Kd and specific soil elements Mg and Pb content in soils, respectively. The content of Fe in soils was significantly correlated (r = 0.67) with the Kd values of plutonium as well. However, the organic matter content in soils appeared to be the governing factor determining good correlations and causing the highest Kd of Pu values.

In this study, sodium borohydride oxidation has been investigated on the platinum nanoparticles modified copper/titanium catalysts (PtNPsCu/Ti), which were fabricated by employing the electroless copper plating and galvanic displacement technique. ICP-OES, XRD, FESEM, and EDX have been used to characterize PtNPsCu/Ti catalysts' composition, structure, and surface morphology. The oxidation of sodium borohydride was examined on the PtNPsCu/Ti catalysts using cyclic voltammetry and chrono-techniques.
RESUMO
Niobium-doped titanium dioxide (Ti1-xNbxO2) films were grown on p-type Si substrates at low temperature (170 °C) using an atomic layer deposition technique. The as-deposited films were amorphous and showed low electrical conductivity. The films became electrically well-conducting and crystallized into the an anatase structure upon reductive post-deposition annealing at 600 °C in an H2 atmosphere for 30 min. It was shown that the Ti0.72Nb0.28O2/p+-Si heterojunction fabricated on low resistivity silicon (10-3 Ω cm) had linear current-voltage characteristic with a specific contact resistivity as low as 23 mΩ·cm2. As the resistance dependence on temperature revealed, the current across the Ti0.72Nb0.28O2/p+-Si heterojunction was mainly determined by the band-to-band charge carrier tunneling through the junction.
RESUMO
There are several key requirements that a very good LED phosphor should meet, i.e., strong absorption, high quantum efficiency, high colour purity, and high luminescence quenching temperature. The reported Rb2Bi(PO4)(MoO4):Eu3+ phosphors have all these properties. The Rb2Bi(PO4)(MoO4):Eu3+ phosphors emit bright red light if excited with near-UV radiation. The calculated colour coordinates show good stability in the 77-500 K temperature range. Moreover, sample doped with 50% Eu3+ possesses quantum efficiency close to unity. Besides the powder samples, ceramic disks of Rb2Eu(PO4)(MoO4) specimen were also prepared, and the red light sources from these disks in combination with near-UV emitting LED were fabricated. The obtained results indicated that ceramic disks efficiently absorb the emission of 375 and 400 nm LED and could be applied as a red component in phosphor-converted white LEDs.
