RESUMO

Current knowledge on the hazard of hepatitis in haemodialysis units is reviewed. Its routes of access and spread, and the possibilities of prevention are discussed. The preventive measures employed at the Haemodialysis Unit of the Department of Urology, University Medical School, Pécs, are outlined and the results reflecting three and a half years' experience are presented.

RESUMO

The literature on the incidence of chronic and acute renal insufficiency is reviewed and the results of own investigations in an area with a population of 1,560,000 are presented. Data were collected in questionnaires. The yearly incidence of patients with chronic uraemia requiring active therapy was estimated at 33 per 1 million population. The number of acute cases was 45 per million. The necessity of increasing the dialysis capacity is stressed. The importance of peritoneal dialysis in the therapy of uraemia cases which do not meet the requirements of the acute and chronic dialysis programmes is emphasized.

RESUMO

Fifty-eight patients with urate calculi and 31 patients with other (non-urate) calculi were examined for total-body potassium by means of a total-body counter. The patients with urate calculosis were found to differ significantly in their total-body K from patients with other calculi as well as from normal subjects. The results indicate that total-body potassium deficiency is one of the factors causing urate calculosis.

RESUMO

A review of 910 cases is presented, with regard to the late consequences of pyelonephritis in pregnancy affecting both the mother and the child. Late recurrences of pyelonephritis in the mother and pyelonephritis in the child have been likewise registered. According to statistical figures, pyelonephritis in pregnancy greatly increases the hazard of calculus formation. The necessity for a long-term follow-up of mother and child after pyelonephritis in pregnancy is stressed. The significance of the measures to be taken in case of asymptomatic bacteriuria is pointed out.

RESUMO

Haemocarboperfusion was used with success in two cases for the treatment of hyperbilirubinaemia of newborns with haemolytic disease. The method will be useful in the lack of the necessary amount of blood for exchange transfusion and will successfully prevent the CNS damage.

RESUMO

In 58 patients subjected to urological surgery a statistically significant correlation was found between the repolarization disorder of ischaemic origin on the ECG and the changes in the alpha-HBDH/LDH ratio. After extensive interventions and particularly in aged subjects, the level of the LDH iso-enzyme of myocardial origin may rise without myocardial infarction. The rise is due to myocardial ischaemia, as proved by the ECG.

RESUMO

The essence and clinical aspects of the resection syndrome occurring in association with transuretheral prostate resection and the possiblity of determining the direction of the absorption of the washing solution are discussed. By means of radioisotope tests a direct correlation was detected between the extent of the haemorrhage and the intravasation of the washing solution. Great importance is ascribed to the vesico-renal reflux often occurring during resection, which might have a major role in the development of post-resectional pyelonephritis.
