BACKGROUND: Multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria particularly Klebsiella, Pseudomonas and Acinetobacter species are recognized as a major health concern worldwide. As a result, the World Health Organization listed these bacteria in the critical priority pathogens group. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of carbapenem and multidrug-resistant Klebsiella, Pseudomonas, and Acinetobacter species at the University of Gondar Comprehensive Specialized Hospital. METHODS: A five-year hospital based retrospective study was conducted from July to September 2021. Socio-demographic and laboratory data were collected from medical records in microbiology laboratory. The quality of the extracted data was assured through cross checking. The data were entered through Epi-data version 4.4.3.1, exported and analyzed using SPSS version 20. The variables were analyzed and presented through tables and graphics. RESULTS: In this study, the frequencies of male participants and neonates under the age of one week were 585 (62.8%) and 210 (22.6%), respectively. Approximately half (436; 46.8%) of the bacterial isolates were recovered from blood specimen. A total of 931 isolates were recorded, where 576 (61.9%) of these isolates were multidrug-resistant. More than two-third of Klebsiella ozaenae (87; 68.5%) and Klebsiella pneumoniae (398; 63.3%) were multidrug-resistant. Of the total bacterial isolates, 24 (13.1%) and 82 (22.9%) were resistant to imipenem and meropenem, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: The proportion of multidrug and carbapenem resistance in Klebsiella, Pseudomonas and Acinetobacter species were high. Therefore, urgent intervention including prevention of the spread of antimicrobial resistant strains and infection prevention practices is required. Treatment should also be guided with antimicrobial susceptibility testing.

BACKGROUND: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and extended spectrum beta lactamase (ESBL) producing Enterobacteriaceae infections are the major challenges in sub-Saharan Africa. Data on the carriage rate of ESBL producing Enterobacteriaceae among HIV infected children is lacking in Ethiopia. Hence this study was aimed to investigate fecal carriage of ESBL producing Enterobacteriaceae among HIV infected children at the University of Gondar comprehensive Specialized Hospital. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted among HIV infected children from January to April 2020. Stool specimens were collected from 161 study participants by convenient sampling and cultured on MacConkey agar. Biochemical identification, antimicrobial susceptibility testing including ESBL production were carried out. Data were analyzed by SPSS version-20 and P-value < 0.05 on multivariate logistic regression analysis was regarded as statistically significant. RESULTS: From a total of 161 study participants male to female ratio was 1:1.1. Moreover; 96.3% of participants were in HIV stage-I and 90.1% had at least a year highly active antiretroviral therapy exposure. A total of 186 Enterobacteriaceae, with E. coli 60% and K. pneumonia 16.13% predominance were isolated from 161 participants. Majority of isolates were most resistant to amoxicillin (95.1%) and sensitive to CHL (94.1%), CXT (91.4%) and CAZ (91.4%). There were 71(38.17%) multidrug resistant isolates, 13 of which were also ESBL producers. The overall ESBL carriage rate was 32/161 (19.9%). History of antibiotic use was the independent factor associated with ESBL carriage (AOR 3.23 (95% CI 1.054-9.88)) and P-value of 0.04. CONCLUSION: ESBL carriage rate of HIV infected children was considerable. Previous antibiotic use was the independent factor. Regular screening for antibiotic resistance on HIV patients before prescription and large-scale antibiotic resistance survey including healthy community may be important.

BACKGROUND: The urinary stone and urinary tract infection (UTI) are invariably associated and are frequent causes of morbidity. Date on burden of UTI among urinary stone patients is lacking in Ethiopia. This study was aimed to assess bacterial profile, antimicrobial susceptibility and associated factors among urinary stone patients at the University of Gondar Comprehensive Specialized Hospital. METHODS: An institution based cross sectional study was conducted. Basic sociodemographic data were collected using a structured questionnaire. Bacterial identification of uropathogens and drug susceptibility testing were done following standard microbiological techniques. The data were entered and analyzed using SPSS version-23. Bivariate and multivariate logistic regressions were used to identify possible associated risk factors. Results with P value < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. RESULT: A total of 300 urinary stone patients were enrolled. Of these, 153 (51%) were male and 261(87%) were urban residents. The overall prevalence of urinary tract infection was 49 (16.3%) (95% CI 12-21%). A high level of resistance was observed to ampicillin, penicillin and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole while majority of isolates were most sensitive to nitrofurantoin and ciprofloxacin. Multi-drug resistant isolates were 16/49 (32.7%), 75% of them being Enterobacteriaceae isolates. More than one-third 9/26 (34.6%) of Gram-negative isolates were Extended Spectrum Beta-Lactamase (ESBL) producing E. coli and K. pneumoniae. Being female, history of urinary tract infection and history of drug use were the independent risk factors. CONCLUSION: Most of the bacterial isolates from urinary stone patients were resistant to ampicillin, penicillin and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole. E. coli and K. pneumoniae were the most common extended spectrum beta-lactamase producing isolates. Sex, history of urinary tract infection and previous drug use were found to be risk factors. Routine diagnosis of urinary stone patients for urinary tract infection should be promoted and further researches are encouraged.

Background: In developing countries, intestinal parasitic infections (IPIs) and tuberculosis (TB) coinfections have been perceived to be high. The geographic distributions of helminths and TB overlap substantially. Parasitic infections affect the outcome of TB by changing the cell-mediated immune response to a humoral response, while Mycobacterium infection favors the immune escape of helminths. There are limited studies on the epidemiology of intestinal parasites among presumptive pulmonary TB (PTB) patients in Ethiopia. Therefore, this study is aimed at determining the prevalence of intestinal parasitic infections and associated factors among patients with presumptive pulmonary tuberculosis at Debre Tabor Referral Hospital. Methods and Materials: A hospital-based cross-sectional study was conducted from March to June 2021. The sociodemographic data and associated factors were collected using a structured questionnaire, and stool samples were collected by convenient sampling technique and processed for the detection of intestinal parasites using a direct wet mount saline preparation and formal ether concentration technique. The data was coded, cleaned, and analyzed by SPSS version 23. Bivariate and multivariable analyses were conducted to determine an adjusted odds ratio (AOR). p value < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Result: The overall prevalence of intestinal parasitosis was 25.6% (81/316); of these, 12.9% (41/316) were protozoan infections and 12.7% (40/316) were helminth infections. Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that being older than 36 years (AOR: 4.35; 95% CI: 1.26, 13.91; p = 0.001), rural residence (AOR: 3.46; 95% CI: 1.18, 9.97; p < 0.001), unable to read and write (AOR = 2.62; 95%CI = 2.15, 8.43; p = 0.004), and use of river water (AOR: 3.47; 95% CI: 1.62, 8.21; p < 0.001) were associated with intestinal parasitic infections. Conclusion: The present study showed that the prevalence of intestinal parasitosis among presumptive pulmonary tuberculosis patients was high in the study area. Age, residence, educational status, and source of water were significant factors in IPIs among presumptive TB patients. Moreover, our findings suggest a proper health education program for good personal hygiene habits, the coloration of water, avoiding open-field defecation, and also preventative measures to avoid the acquisition of IPIs in patients with TB. Presumptive tuberculosis patients should be screened and treated accordingly. Additionally, it needs further research and recommends more assessment for intestinal parasitic infection in PTB patients.

Background: Food-borne infections continue to be a major public health problem at the international level. The issue becomes more serious in developing countries like Ethiopia. Objective: This study aimed to examine the prevalence of Salmonella and Shigella species and intestinal parasites, as well as antimicrobial resistance patterns and associated factors among food handlers at the University of Gondar cafeteria in northwest Ethiopia. Methods: An institutional-based cross-sectional study was conducted from February to June 2021 in the University of Gondar cafeterias. Data related to the socio-demographic characteristics and hygienic practices of study participants were collected using structured questionnaires. A total of 290 stool samples were collected from food handlers. Culture and conventional biochemical tests were used to isolate the Salmonella and the Shigella species. Wet mount, Formol-ether concentration, and Kato Katz techniques were applied to identify intestinal parasites. Additionally, drug susceptibility tests were performed using the disk diffusion method. Statistical analysis was done using SPSS version 26. Results: Of 290 food handlers' stool samples analyzed, Twenty-seven 27 (9.3%) were positive for both Salmonella and Shigella species. The prevalence of Salmonella and Shigella species was 16 (5.5%) and 11 (3.8%), respectively. Most of the isolated pathogens were resistant to tetracycline 19 (70.4%), and trimethoprim/sulphamethoxazole 19 (70.4%). The overall rate of multi-drug resistant Shigella and Salmonella isolate was 59.3%. Besides, Fifty-seven 57 (19.7%) of the participants were positive for one or more intestinal parasites. The most prevalent intestinal Parasitosis was E. histolytica/dispar 22 (7.6%), followed by G. lamblia 13 (4.5%), and Ascaris lumbricoides 11 (3.8) not washing hands after using the toilet (AOR: 4.42, 95% CI: 1.57, 10.56), and consuming unpasteurized milk (AOR: 3.14, 95% CI: 1.65, 3.96), were factors significantly associated with the prevalence of Salmonella, and Shigella infection. Similarly, not washing hands after using the toilet (AOR: 2.19, 95% CI: 1.0, 1.4), and consuming unpasteurized milk (AOR: 10.4, 95% CI: 3.8, 28.8), were factors significantly associated with the prevalence of intestinal parasites infection. Conclusion: The prevalence of intestinal parasites, Salmonella, and Shigella species was high. Therefore, it is imperative to implement a public health policy that includes ongoing microbiological surveillance.

Background: Bacterial bloodstream infections (BSIs) are the leading cause of sepsis-related morbidity and mortality worldwide. The emergence and spread of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in bacteria is also a growing global concern. As a result, data on bacterial profile and their antibiogram are essential for strategies to contain drug resistance, improve the quality of patient care, and strengthen health systems. Methods: Retrospective data from bacteriological results of blood samples of BSI-suspected patients from 2018 to 2021 were collected using a data collection sheet. Standard bacteriological techniques were followed during sample collection, culture preparation, bacterial identification, and antibiotic susceptibility testing (AST). We used Epi Info version 7 to enter and clean the data and then exported it to SPSS version 26 for analysis. Logistic regression models were used to measure the association between variables. A p value <0.05 with a 95% confidence interval was considered as statistically significant. Result: Of the total 2,795 blood culture records, 455 (16.3%) were culture positive for bacteria, with Klebsiella pneumoniae (26%) and Staphylococcus aureus (24.6%) being the leading isolates. The isolates were highly resistant to common antibiotics, with more than 80% of them being resistant to ceftriaxone and penicillin. Moreover, about 43% of isolates were multidrug resistant (MDR), with Klebsiella pneumoniae (65.5%), Acinetobacter species (56.7%), and Citrobacter species (53.8%) being the most common MDR isolates. Age and diagnosis year were significantly associated with the presence of bacterial BSIs (p value <0.05). Conclusion: Bacterial BSI and AMR were growing concerns in the study area. Bacteremia was more common in children under the age of five, and it decreased as the patient's age increased. The alarming rate of AMR, such as MDR blood isolates, calls for periodic and continuous monitoring of antibiotic usage in the study area.

BACKGROUND: Globally, chronic viral hepatitis is the cause of mortality alongside human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome and tuberculosis. Published reports on the seroprevalence of hepatitis B and C viruses among HIV-infected children are lacking in sub-Saharan Africa. Hence, this study aimed to determine the seroprevalence of hepatitis B and C viruses among highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART)-experienced children at the University of Gondar Comprehensive Specialized Hospital. METHODS: We conducted a hospital-based cross-sectional study to determine the seroprevalence of hepatitis B and C viruses among HAART-experienced children from January to May 2020. We collected the socio-demographic characteristics of study participants with pretested questioners and clinical data from medical records. We performed enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay-based laboratory test for serum hepatitis B surface antigens and anti-hepatitis C virus antibodies. Finally, we analyzed the frequency of all variables, determined the association of independent variables with hepatitis B and C viruses by using univariable and then multivariable logistic regression. RESULTS: A total of 241 HAART-experienced children were enrolled, 49.8% of whom were girls. The median age of participants was 13 years (interquartile range 11-14). The seroprevalence of hepatitis B and C virus infection among HAART-experienced children were 9.5% and 2.9%, respectively. Being underweight was significantly associated with both hepatitis B virus (AOR = 3.87: 95% CI; 1.04-14.46, P = 0.044) and hepatitis C virus infections (AOR = 4.54: 95% CI; 1.21-17.04, P = 0.025). CONCLUSIONS: This study showed that the magnitude of hepatitis B and C viruses was high among HIV-infected children who were under HAART and did not know their hepatitis B and C infection status before. Being underweight was associated with both hepatitis viruses. Therefore, screening for hepatitis B and C viruses should be a routine measure for all HIV-infected children.

BACKGROUND: Fecal carriage of extended-spectrum beta-lactamase and Carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae is a potential risk for the transmission of infection with resistant strains. Understanding the burden of these resistant strains in asymptomatic people is essential to reduce the chain of infection transmission. However, data on the fecal carriage of Extended-spectrum Beta-lactamase and Carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae among food handlers were limited in developing countries especially in Ethiopia. The aim of the present study is, therefore, to assess fecal carriage rate, associated factors, and antimicrobial resistance patterns of Extended-spectrum Beta-lactamase and Carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae among food handlers at the University of Gondar Cafeterias, Northwest Ethiopia. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An institution-based cross-sectional study was conducted from February to June 2021 at the University of Gondar cafeterias. A total of 290 stool samples were collected, transported using Cary Blair transport medium, and processed. All isolates were cultured and identified by using MacConkey agar, and routine biochemical tests. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing was done to each isolate following the Kirby Bauer disk diffusion method. If the zone of inhibition was ≤ 22 mm for ceftazidime, ≤25 mm for ceftriaxone, and ≤27 for cefotaxime they were considered as potential ESBL strain and selected for a further phenotypic confirmatory. Moreover, the double-disc diffusion test and the modified carbapenem inactivation method were used for confirmations of Extended-spectrum ß-lactamase and Carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae respectively. If a ≥5mm difference in zone diameter for either antimicrobial agent in combination with clavulanic acid versus the zone diameter of the agent when tested alone (without B-lactamase inhibitor), was confirmed as ESBL-PE and if the zone of inhibition diameter between 6-15mm and 16- 18mm with a pinpoint colony, it was considered as carbapenem resistance Enterobacteriaceae. Data were entered using Epi-data version 4.6 and then exported to SPSS version 26 for analysis. Potential risk factors were assessed using multivariable logistic regression and a p-value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. RESULTS: Out of 290 stool samples, 63 (21.7%) and 7 (2.4%) were confirmed as Extended-spectrum ß-lactamase and Carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae. The most predominant ESBL-PE was E. coli 43 (14.8%) followed by K. pneumoniae 17 (5.9%). Most of the Extended-spectrum ß-lactamase and Carbapenemase-producing isolates were resistant to tetracycline, cefotaxime, ceftazidime, and ceftriaxone (100% each). In contrast, a low resistance level was recorded for Meropenem and cefoxitin. The overall Multi-drug resistant Enterobacteriaceae (MDR) was 147 (42.3%). Antibiotics usage in the last 3 months and drinking unpasteurized milk were associated with the carriage of the Extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-Producing Enterobacteriaceae. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS: The high fecal carriage rate of Multi-drug resistance isolate, Extended-spectrum ß-lactamase, and Carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae were recorded among food handlers. Therefore, this study gives signals in the spread of drug-resistant bacteria easily to the community. Hence, the need for adjusting and promotion of infection prevention measures to prevent the spread of drug-resistant bacteria should not be underestimated.

Background: Despite ongoing intensive public health intervention efforts, intestinal parasitic infections (IPIs) remain a major public health problem in developing countries, including Ethiopia. Having updated epidemiological data focusing on the top common IPIs that cause emergency visits is crucial for implementing area-specific and evidence-based intervention strategies. Hence, this study aimed to determine the prevalence of IPIs in Woldia Comprehensive Specialized Hospital's (WCSH) emergency laboratory over a six-year period. Methods: An institutional-based retrospective study was conducted to assess the prevalence of IPIs over a six-year period (2014-2019) using a recorded saline wet-mount stool sample examination result in the laboratory logbook at WCSH's emergency department. Results: In this study, of the total of 11,281 clinically suspected individuals who were requested for stool sample examination, 3908 (34.6%) individuals were diagnosed with IPs. The majority of confirmed cases were caused by protozoan parasites (32.9%), followed by helminth infections (1.7%). A slight fluctuating trend in the prevalence of IPs was observed in the six-year study period, with the highest prevalence documented in the year of 2014 (41.3%) and the lowest in 2017 (28.0%). Entamoeba histolytica/dispar and Giardia lamblia accounts for 95% of the IPs. The prevalence of protozoan infection was significantly higher in females (p-value = 0.0101), while H. nana (p-value =0.0138) and E. vermicularis (p-value = 0.0201) infections were higher in males. The highest and the lowest IP prevalence were reported in the age groups of 45-54 years (40%) and under five years (25.6%), respectively. Conclusion and Recommendations: In the study area, nearly one-third of patients with emergency visits due to gastrointestinal symptoms were infected with IPs. This underlines the severity of the problem in the study area, which requires a collaborative effort of concerned bodies to minimize the burden of IP to the level where it is no longer a public health threat.

Urinary tract infection and antimicrobial resistance remains the major problem, with significant health and socioeconomic burden, particularly in developing countries. This infection is commonly caused by Gram-negative bacteria, principally by Escherichia coli. So, this study aimed to determine bacterial isolates and antimicrobial resistance trend among patients with urinary tract infection at the University of Gondar Comprehensive Specialized Hospital, Northwest Ethiopia. A retrospective study was conducted from January 1st to February 28th. A ten years (2010-2019) record of urine culture results, the biochemical test and antimicrobial susceptibility test results of isolates were collected from the medical microbiology laboratory register using a checklist. Data quality was checked, entered, and analyzed using SPSS version 23. We have presented results through descriptive tables and graphs. The overall prevalence of urinary tract infection among 4441 patients was 24.1%. Escherichia coli (37.7%), Klebsiella pneumoniae (11.4%), and Staphylococcus aureus (9.1%) were the predominant uropathogens. The infection rate was nearly similar across both sexes but highest in the age group above 60 years. Above 75% of Gram-negative isolates were resistant to ampicillin (92.5%), amoxicillin-clavulanate (80.1%), tetracycline (79.3%), cefuroxime (79.2%), and Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (78.3%). Over 2/3 of Gram-positive isolates also showed increased resistance to tetracycline (84.8%) and penicillin (71.6%). Moreover, more than 44% of the isolates were multidrug-resistant (MDR). We have seen an inconsistent trend of antimicrobial resistance, with an overall resistance rate of above 50%. In conclusion, the overall prevalence of urinary tract infection was high and elderly patients were most affected. More than 70% of both Gram positive and gram-negative isolates were resistant to penicillin, ampicillin, amoxicillin-clavulanate, tetracycline, cefuroxime, Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole. Above than 44% of the isolates were multidrug-resistant (MDR). The increasing rate of antimicrobial resistance calls for routine diagnosis and antimicrobial susceptibility testing. A prospective multicenter study indicating the status of resistance should be encouraged.

BACKGROUND: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and intestinal parasites co-infections are the most common causes of clinical illness and death, especially for children living in resource constrained setting. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and associated factors of intestinal parasites among highly active anti-retroviral therapy (HAART) initiated children. METHODS: Cross-sectional study was conducted among 255 HAART initiated HIV-infected children at the University of Gondar Comprehensive Specialized Hospital from January to April 2020. Socio-demographic characteristics were collected using a structured questionnaire via a face-to-face interview. Clinical data of the children were collected by reviewing the medical records. Venous blood was collected for complete blood counts, viral load determination, and blood film examination. Flotation concentration technique was done in addition to direct wet mount for parasitological examination. Bi-variable and multi-variable logistic regression analysis were used to check the presence of significant association, and P-value<0.05 was considered as statistically significant. RESULTS: The overall prevalence of intestinal parasite infection (IPI) among the study participants was 22.4% (95% CI=17-28%). The presence of opportunistic infection (AOR=2.09 95% CI=1.81-5.43), no eating under-cooked animal products (AOR=0.38 95% CI=0.16-0.94), male sex (AOR=0.45 95% CI=0.22-0.90), viral load rate >1,000 copies/mL (AOR=1.80 95% CI=1.67-4.19), and cytopenia (AOR=2.71 95% CI=1.59-12.25) showed significant association with the prevalence of IPI. CONCLUSION: Entamoeba histolytica and Ascaris lumbricoides were the most prevalent intestinal parasites among HAART initiated children. Among HAART initiated children, IPI were associated with gender, cytopenia, viral load, undercooked animal products, and the presence of opportunistic infections. Therefore, health education, prompt treatment, and regular deworming should be implemented to alleviate the burden of intestinal parasites in HIV-infected children.

BACKGROUND: Meningitis, which is mostly caused by infectious agents, occurs more commonly during the first month of life. Bacterial meningitis is an important source of mortality and morbidity, especially in neonates of resource-limited countries. We aimed to determine the prevalence and etiological agents of bacterial meningitis and their antibiotic susceptibility pattern in neonates at the University of Gondar Comprehensive Specialized Hospital. METHODS: We collected retrospective data from bacteriological results of cerebrospinal fluid of meningitis suspected neonates from 2013 to 2019. Sample collection, culture preparation, bacterial identification, and susceptibility testing were performed using standard microbiological techniques. We extracted data on socio-demographic characteristics and culture and antibiotic susceptibility testing results. We inputted the data using Epi-info version 7 and exported it to SPSS version 20 for analysis. RESULTS: In this study, 1101 cerebrospinal fluid samples, 595 (54%) male and 506 (46%) female neonates, were cultured to look for meningitis-causing bacteria. Of 1101 cerebrospinal fluid, 19 (1.73%) were culture positive for meningitis-causing bacteria. The common etiological agents were Klebsiella pneumoniae 36.8% (7), non-lactose-fermenter Gram-negative rods 21% (4), and Group B streptococcus 15.8% (3). The overall resistance rate among cephalosporin, cotrimoxazole, penicillin, and aminoglycosides classes were 90%, 88.9%, 77.3%, and 54.54%, respectively. Of all isolates, 58% (11) were multidrug-resistant, including all the non-lactose-fermenter Gram-negative rods and 71.4% of the Klebsiella pneumonia isolates. CONCLUSION: The prevalence of neonatal bacterial meningitis was 1.73%. Klebsiella pneumonia and other Gram-negative rods, with a high multidrug-resistant rate, were the leading cause of neonatal bacterial meningitis. Further studies are needed to explore the source of infection, incidence, and risk factors of neonatal bacterial meningitis.

BACKGROUND: Helicobacter pylori (H.pylori) infection is predominantly acquired in childhood from family members. The infection can cause dypepepsia, chronic and acute gastritis and gastric cancer. Dyspepsia is the most common illness in the Ethiopian population visiting outpatient department of health facilities, and it has also been associated with H.pylori infection. The aim of this study was to assess the magnitude of H.pylori and its associated factors among dyspeptic patients who visited University of Gondar Hospital Outpatient Department. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An institutional-based cross-sectional study was conducted on 354 dyspeptic patients. A systematic random sampling technique was employed to select study participants. Data were collected by using structured questionnaire via face-to-face interview. H.pylori infection was diagnosed using stool antigen test method. The data were entered into Epi info version 3.5.3 and transferred to Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 20. Both Bivariable and multivariable binary logistic regression analyses were performed to see the effect of independent variables on the dependent variable. RESULT: Of the total study participants, 201(56.8%), 195(55.1%) and 182(51.4%) were married, urban residents and females, respectively. The overall magnitude of H.pylori infection was 37.6%. In bivariable logistic regression analysis, sex and marital status were significantly associated with H.pylori infection, but in multivariable logistic regression analysis only marital status was significantly associated with H.pylori infection. CONCLUSION: The magnitude of H.pylori infection is high indicating that it is a public health problem in the study to area. According to this study, none of the variables were significantly associated with H.pylori infection. Hence, effective preventive, control and screening strategies need to be designed to reduce the burden of the disease.
