RESUMO

Coherent terahertz beams with radial polarization of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd orders have been generated with the use of silicon subwavelength diffractive optical elements (DOEs). Silicon elements were fabricated by a technology similar to the technology used before for the fabrication of DOEs forming laser terahertz beams with pre-given mode content. The beam of the terahertz Novosibirsk Free Electron Laser was used as the illuminating beam. The experimental results are in good agreement with the results of the computer simulation.

RESUMO

An increase in the radiation power of terahertz (THz) sources requires the development of new optics working with it. The laser-assisted replication technique is proposed to fabricate the diamond cylindrical diffractive lens with a continuous profile for the THz range. The procedure involves the inverted structuring of a silicon substrate by laser ablation for its further replication to the diamond surface utilizing the chemical vapor deposition process. Testing of the fabricated lens performed with a free-electron laser at the wavelength of 141 µm has demonstrated high diffraction efficiency (95±5%) and a good agreement between the measured and expected intensity distribution in the focal plane.

RESUMO

Terahertz surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensors have been regarded as a promising technology in biomedicine due to their real-time, label-free, and ultrasensitive monitoring features. Different authors have suggested a lot of SPR sensors, including those based on 2D and 3D metamaterials, subwavelength gratings, graphene, and graphene nanotube, as well as others. However, one of the traditional approaches to realize high sensitivity SPR sensors based on metal diffraction gratings has been studied poorly in the terahertz frequency range. In this article, a linear metal rectangular diffraction grating with high aspect ratio is studied. The influence of the grating structure parameters on the sensor sensitivity is simulated. Effects arising from different ratios of depth and width were discovered and explained. The results show that the sensitivity can be increased to 2.26 THz/RIU when the refractive index range of the gas to measure is between 1 and 1.002 with the resolution 5×10-5 RIU.

RESUMO

We study diffraction of Bessel vortex beams with topological charges of ±1 and ±2 and a wavelength of 130 µm on two-dimensional amplitude periodic gratings. Results of simulations and experiments at the Novosibirsk Free Electron Laser facility show that there appear periodic patterns in the planes corresponding to the classical main and fractional Talbot planes, but instead of self-images of the holes, there are observed periodic lattices of annular vortex microbeams with topological charges corresponding to the charge of the beam illuminating the grating. The ring diameters are the same for beams with different topological charges, but they are proportional to the grating period and inversely proportional to the diameter of the beam illuminating the grating.

RESUMO

The paper presents the application of the acousto-optic tunable filter (AOTF) in surface plasmon resonance (SPR) spectroscopy to measure the optical thickness of thin dielectric coatings. The technique presented uses combined angular and spectral interrogation modes to obtain the reflection coefficient under the condition of SPR. Surface electromagnetic waves were excited in the Kretschmann geometry, with the AOTF serving as a monochromator and polarizer of light from a white broadband radiation source. The experiments highlighted the high sensitivity of the method and the lower amount of noise in the resonance curves compared with the laser light source. This optical technique can be implemented for nondestructive testing in the production of thin films in not only the visible, but also the infrared and terahertz ranges.

RESUMO

Reasoning about graphs evolving over time is a challenging concept in many domains, such as bioinformatics, physics, and social networks. We consider a common case in which edges can be short term interactions (e.g., messaging) or long term structural connections (e.g., friendship). In practice, long term edges are often specified by humans. Human-specified edges can be both expensive to produce and suboptimal for the downstream task. To alleviate these issues, we propose a model based on temporal point processes and variational autoencoders that learns to infer temporal attention between nodes by observing node communication. As temporal attention drives between-node feature propagation, using the dynamics of node interactions to learn this key component provides more flexibility while simultaneously avoiding issues associated with human-specified edges. We also propose a bilinear transformation layer for pairs of node features instead of concatenation, typically used in prior work, and demonstrate its superior performance in all cases. In experiments on two datasets in the dynamic link prediction task, our model often outperforms the baseline model that requires a human-specified graph. Moreover, our learned attention is semantically interpretable and infers connections similar to actual graphs.
