RESUMO

Crop residue management has become more challenging with intensive agricultural operations. Zero tillage and crop residue returns, along with the enhancement of in-situ residue decomposition through microbial intervention, are essential measures for preserving and enhancing soil quality. To address this problem in view of stubble burning, field experiments were conducted in rice-rice (variety Swarna) cropping systems under lowland conditions, wherein the following different residue management practices were adopted viz., conventional cultivation (CC), residue incorporation (RI @ 6 t paddy straw ha-1), residue retention (RR @6 t paddy straw ha-1), and zero tillage (ZT). In this experiment, two microbial products i.e. solid microbial consortium (SMC) at 2.0 kg ha-1) and capsule (10 numbers ha-1), were evaluated in both Rabi (dry) and Kharif (wet) seasons under different residue management practices. The results on soil microbial properties showed that application of either SMC or capsule based formulation could significantly improve the soil organic carbon (SOC) content in ZT (9.51 g/kg), followed by RI (9.36 g/kg), and RR (9.34 g/kg) as compared to CC (7.61 g/kg). There were significant differences in the soil functional properties (AcP, AkP, FDA, and DHA) with microbial interventions across all residue management practices. SOC was significantly positive correlated with cellulase (R2 = 0.64, p < 0.001), ß-glucosidase (R2 = 0.61, p < 0.001), and laccase (R2 = 0.66, p < 0.001) activity; however, the regression coefficients varied significantly with microbial intervention. Moreover, the availability of N, P, and K in soil was significantly (p < 0.05) improved under microbial treatments with either RR or RI practices. Among the different methods of residues management practices, RI with microbial intervention registered a consistent yield improvement (8.4-17.8%) compared to conventional practices with microbial intervention. The present findings prove that the application of decomposing microbial consortia for in-situ rice residue management under field conditions significantly enhances soil quality and crop yield compared to conventional practices.

Cadmium (Cd), a major contaminant of concern, has been extensively reviewed and debated for its anthropogenic global shifts. Cadmium levels in rice grains raise wide food safety concerns. The aim of this review is therefore to capture the dynamics of Cd in paddy soil, translocation pathways of Cd from soil to consumption rice, and assess its bio-accessibility in human consumption. In crop plants, Cd reduces absorption of nutrients and water, triggers oxidative stress, and inhibits plant metabolism. Understanding the mechanisms and behaviour of Cd in paddy soil and rice allows to explain, predict and intervene in Cd transferability from soil to grains and human exposure. Factors affecting Cd movement in soil, and further to rice grain, are elucidated. Recently, physiological and molecular understanding of Cd transport in rice plants have been advanced. Morphological-biochemical characteristics and Cd transporters of plants in such a movement were also highlighted. Ecologically viable remediation approaches, including low input cost agronomic methods, phytoremediation and microbial bioremediation methods, are emerging.

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is an autoimmune disease affecting parts of the skeletal structure in particular. Previously increased levels of the inflammatory cell types Th17, Th22, Tc17 and Tc22 cells have been shown to be associated with AS. Here, we analysed the levels of inflammatory T cell subsets, related cytokines and clinical characteristics of AS patients vs controls from northern Sweden. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) obtained from 50 AS patients and 50 matched controls were short term stimulated with PMA/Ionomycin, stained and analysed by flow cytometry. Plasma levels of Interleukin (IL)-17, IL-22, IL-10 as well as clinically relevant markers were determined. Compared to male controls, male AS patients showed 1.5- to 2-fold increases of Th17 (P = .013), Th22 (P = .003) and Tc22 (P = .024) among CD45+ CD3+ lymphocytes. Plasma IL-22 levels correlated with the Tc17 proportion in male patients (Rs  = 0.499, P = .003) and plasma IL-10 levels were inversely correlated with Tc17 among all patients (Rs  = -0.276, P = .05). Male patients with syndesmophytes showed significantly higher Th17 proportions (P = .038). In female AS patients, Tc22 was negatively correlated with C-reactive protein (high sensitivity) (hsCRP) (Rs  = -0.573, P = .016). We confirmed increased proportions of inflammatory T cells and correlations with relevant cytokines from male AS patients. The correlation between Th17 and syndesmophytes supports a role of Th17 in the pathogenic process.

BACKGROUND: There has been a growing interest in ivermectin ever since it was reported to have an in-vitro activity against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). This trial was conducted to test the efficacy of ivermectin in mild and moderate coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19). METHODS: A double blind, parallel, randomised, placebo-controlled trial conducted among adult COVID-19 patients with mild to moderate disease severity on admission in a COVID dedicated tertiary healthcare of eastern India. Enrolment was done between 1st August and 31st October 2020.  On day 1 and 2 post enrolment, patients in the intervention arm received ivermectin 12 mg while the patients in the non-interventional arm received placebo tablets. RESULTS: About one-fourth (23.6%) of the patients in the intervention arm and one-third (31.6%) in the placebo arm were tested reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RTPCR) negative for SARS-CoV-2 on 6th day. Although this difference was found to be statistically insignificant [rate ratio (RR): 0.8; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.4-1.4; p=0.348]. All patients in the ivermectin group were successfully discharged. In comparison the same for the placebo group was observed to be 93%. This difference was found to be statistically significant (RR: 1.1; 95% CI; 1.0-1.2; p=0.045). CONCLUSIONS: Inclusion of ivermectin in treatment regimen of mild to moderate COVID-19 patients could not be said with certainty based on our study results as it had shown only marginal benefit in successful discharge from the hospital with no other observed benefits.

Context: CVOID-19 induced significant economic and social disruptions in India. Rural households, including smallholders, were affected by loss in migrant income, livelihood and farm and non-farm incomes. During this lockdown, the Indian government enacted several emergency legislations to provide direct and indirect relief to workers and households. India's COVID-19 social assistance package, namely, PM-GKY, announced in March 2020, was designed to provide immediate relief to the vulnerable population. The PM-GKY provided cash direct benefit transfers (DBT) and in-kind supports (IKS) through existing schemes. Objectives: This study examines the impact of India's government assistance package (known as Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana or PM-GKY), announced immediately after the COVID-19 lockdown, on the procurement of agricultural inputs for the upcoming farming season. Methods: The study uses a quasi-experimental method and survey data from 1,789 smallholder households in three northern Indian states (Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh). Results: The result suggests that the fungibility of funds received under the government transfer package was significant in alleviating credit constraints and increasing agricultural investments in agricultural inputs. The farmers who received benefits from the PM-GKY scheme spent significantly more on the procurement of seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides. Conclusions: The disbursement of cash transfers in the three states showed that emergency relief packages had reached the vulnerable sections of Indian society. Overall, 89-94% of households benefited from direct cash transfers. Perhaps lower transaction costs, minimal leakages, and immediate delivery make a strong case for direct cash transfers. The above advantages facilitate the provision of relief to a large proportion of vulnerable sections of Indian society in a short period.

B lymphocytes optimize Ab responses by somatic hypermutation (SH), which introduces point mutations in the variable regions of the Ab genes and by class-switch recombination (CSR), which changes the expressed C region exon of the IgH. These Ab diversification processes are initiated by the deaminating enzyme activation-induced cytidine deaminase followed by many DNA repair enzymes, ultimately leading to deletions and a high mutation rate in the Ab genes, whereas DNA lesions made by activation-induced cytidine deaminase are repaired with low error rate on most other genes. This indicates an advanced regulation of DNA repair. In this study, we show that initiation of Ab diversification in B lymphocytes of mouse spleen leads to formation of a complex between many proteins in DNA repair. We show also that BCR activation, which signals the end of successful SH, reduces interactions between some proteins in the complex and increases other interactions in the complex with varying kinetics. Furthermore, we show increased localization of SH- and CSR-coupled proteins on switch regions of the Igh locus upon initiation of SH/CSR and differential changes in the localization upon BCR signaling, which terminates SH. These findings provide early evidence for a DNA repair complex or complexes that may be of functional significance for carrying out essential roles in SH and/or CSR in B cells.

B lymphocytes optimize antibody responses by class switch recombination (CSR), which changes the expressed constant region exon of the immunoglobulin heavy chain (IgH), and by somatic hypermutation (SH) that introduces point mutations in the variable regions of the antibody genes. Activation-induced cytidine deaminase (AID) is the key mutagenic enzyme that initiates both these antibody diversification processes by deaminating cytosine to uracil. Here we asked the question if transcription factors can mediate the specific targeting of the antibody diversification by recruiting AID. We have recently reported that AID is together with the transcription factors E2A, PAX5 and IRF4 in a complex on key sequences of the Igh locus. Here we report that also ETS1 is together with AID in this complex on key sequences of the Igh locus in splenic B cells of mice. Furthermore, we show that both ETS1 and PAX5 can directly recruit AID to DNA sequences from the Igh locus with the specific binding site for the transcription factor. Taken together, our findings support the notion of a targeting mechanism for the selective diversification of antibody genes with limited genome wide mutagenesis by recruitment of AID by PAX5 and ETS1 in a transcription factor complex.

MAIN CONCLUSION: Illumina-Miseq®-based cyanobiont diversity and biomass were analyzed in six Azolla spp. Results revealed that 93-98% of total operational taxonomic units (OTUs) belong to Nostacaceae followed by Cylindrospermopsis with about 1-6% OTUs. The taxonomy of Azolla-cyanobiont is a long-term debate within the scientific community. Morphological and biochemical-based reports indicated the presence of Anabaena, Nostoc and/or Trichormus azollae as abundant Azolla-cyanobionts, however, molecular data did not support the abundance of Anabaena and/or Nostoc. To understand furthermore, the cyanobiont diversity in six species of Azolla (A. microphylla, A. mexicana, A. filiculoides, A. caroliniana, A. pinnata and A. rubra) was analyzed based on 16S rRNA Illumina-MiSeq sequencing. Additionally, biomass and nutrient profiling of Azolla spp. were analyzed and correlated with cyanobiont diversity. Illumina-MiSeq data revealed that 99.6-99.9% of total operational taxonomic units (OTUs) belonged to Nostocophycideae (class), Nostocales (order) and Nostacaceae (family). At genus level, the unassigned affiliation (93.4-97.9%) under Nostacaceae family was abundant followed by Cylindrospermopsis OTUs (1.1-6.0%). Interestingly, A. pinnata harboured maximum Cylindrospermopsis OTUs and also recorded higher biomass (40.67 g m-2 day-1), whereas crude protein (25.9%) and antioxidants (76.9%) were recorded to be higher in A. microphylla. Biplot analysis revealed that A. pinnata and its cyanobiont abundance were positively correlated with neutral and acid detergent fibers. Overall, the present findings deepened the understanding about cyanobiont in Azolla and its relations with Azolla nutrient profiling.

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), particularly the Glomerales group, play a paramount role in plant nutrient uptake, and abiotic and biotic stress management in rice, but recent evidence revealed that elevated CO2 concentration considerably reduces the Glomerales group in soil. In view of this, the present study was initiated to understand the interaction effect of native Glomerales species application in rice plants (cv. Naveen) under elevated CO2 concentrations (400 ± 10, 550 ± 20, and 700 ± 20 ppm) in open-top chambers. Three different modes of application of the AMF inoculum were evaluated, of which, combined application of AMF at the seedling production and transplanting stages showed increased AMF colonization, which significantly improved grain yield by 25.08% and also increased uptake of phosphorus by 18.2% and nitrogen by 49.5%, as observed at 700-ppm CO2 concentration. Organic acids secretion in rice root increased in AMF-inoculated plants exposed to 700-ppm CO2 concentration. To understand the overall effect of CO2 elevation on AMF interaction with the rice plant, principal component and partial least square regression analysis were performed, which found both positive and negative responses under elevated CO2 concentration.

The diversity of cellulolytic bacteria from the rice-pulse system can be sourced for identification of efficient cellulose decomposing microbial strains. In the present study, the abundance, structural diversity, and cellulolytic potential of the culturable bacterial community were studied in 5-year old rice-pulse system under different resource conservation technologies. Higher cellulose (68% more) and xylanase (35% more) activities were observed under zero tilled soil. The populations of cellulolytic bacteria were significantly higher (44%) in zero tillage (ZT) treatment than those of conventional practice. Results revealed that the cellulolytic bacterial diversity was found to be significantly higher under ZT practice, but the present population may not be sufficient for effective recycling of organic wastes in this system. Out of 290 bacterial isolates, 20 isolates had significantly higher cellulolytic activities, of which the top three superior isolates were received from ZT practice. The cellulolytic bacterial diversity based on 16S rDNA sequencing data revealed that the Firmicutes was the most dominant phyla and the Bacillus spp. were the common genus, the observation also showed that there were 17 different haplotypes were recorded among 20 isolates of cellulolytic bacteria. The present findings indicated that long-term ZT in the rice-pulse system could be a unique source for efficient cellulose decomposing bacteria and further the efficient bacterial strains isolated from this system can be used as efficient bioinoculants for in situ as well as ex-situ decomposition of rice straw particularly in conservation agriculture.

A field experiment was conducted at Indian Council of Agricultural Research-National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack, Odisha, India in the dry seasons of 2015 and 2016 to assess the water vapor flux (FH2O) and its relationship with other climatic variables. The FH2O and climatic variables were measured by an eddy covariance system and a micrometeorological observatory. Daily mean FH2O during the dry seasons of 2015 and 2016 were 0.009-0.092 g m-2 s-1 and 0.014-0.101 g m-2 s-1, respectively. Seasonal average FH2O was 14.6% higher in 2016 than that in 2015. Diurnal variation for FH2O showed a bell-shaped curve with its peak at 13:30-14:00 Indian Standard Time (IST) in both the years. Carbon dioxide flux was found higher with rise in FH2O. This relationship was stronger at higher vapor pressure deficit (VPD) (20 ≤ VPD ≤ 40 and VPD > 40 hPa). The FH2O showed significant positive correlation with latent heat flux, net radiation flux, photosynthatically active radiation, air, water and soil temperatures, shortwave down and upwell radiations, maximum and minimum temperatures, evaporation, and relative humidity in both the years. Principal component analysis showed that FH2O was very close to latent heat flux in both the years (Pearson correlation coefficient close to 1). The two-dimensional observation map of the principal component F1 and F2 showed the observations taken during the vegetative stage and panicle initiation stage, and flowering stage and maturity stage were closer to each other. It can be concluded that the most important climatic variables controlling the FH2O were latent heat of vaporization, net radiation, air temperature, soil temperatures, and water temperature.

In the present study, de novo transcriptome analysis of Selaginella bryopteris in frond and root was performed to understand the regulation of flavonoid (FL) biosynthesis. High-quality data of 5.84 and 5.86 Gb was generated for frond and root, respectively, that assembled into 94,713 and 81,567 transcripts. A total of 87,471 and 73,395 unigenes were obtained from frond and root, respectively. A total of 41,267 and 31,048 CDS of frond and root, respectively, were annotated by BLASTX, which showed maximum hits against S. moellendorffii. Out of 11,285 differentially expressed genes, a total of 5639 genes were found to be down-regulated and 5628 genes up-regulated in frond as compared to those in root. In silico analysis of expression of genes in frond as compared to that in root was done for those related to phenylpropanoid (PP)/FL biosynthesis along with transcription factors (TFs) after DESeq and MapMan-based information. Results showed that genes of PP/FL biosynthesis pathway namely SbCHS, SbCHI, SbF3H, SbF3'H, SbDFR, SbUF3GT, SbCCOAMT, and SbCATOMT and TFs (SbMYB1, SbMYB2, SbMYB3, SbBHLH1, and SbWD40-5) were up-regulated in frond in comparison to those in root. Further, this in silico expression data was validated by RT-PCR analysis which showed predominant expression of most of these genes in frond and indicated their importance in the biosynthesis of flavonoids in S. bryopteris. A total of 9074 simple sequence repeats (SSRs) were also identified for frond and 3811 SSRs for root; these can be used for experimental validation.

Eleven pigmented rice genotypes were evaluated to estimate genetic parameters, heritability and association. The results indicated that, genotypic variation was high among the lines. The distinct seasonal effect on plant performance for antioxidant capacity, anthocyanin, flavonoids, head rice recovery and test weights was also observed. Wet season favoured the crop performance in all genotypes as compared to drought conditions. The differential accumulation of different quality traits such as AOA, anthocyanin content, flavonoids content, etc showed high heritability, which would be transfer to high yeilding popular rice cultivars through conventional or geneticaly modification techniques. The line Mamihunger was chosen as donor of the high-quality rice grain and Annapurna for high yield. Further, Mamihunger are foreseen to be good in nutritional quality and industry use.

Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB), an intracellular pathogen, still represents a major global health challenge. A number of mycobacterial macromolecules have been shown to target biological processes within host macrophages; however, the exact mechanism for the majority of these host pathogen interactions is still poorly understood. Moreover, the lipid metabolic pathway is one of the most important physiologic pathways that plays a vital role in the survival and infection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. In present study, we investigated the effect of rLipQ from Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv on macrophage functions in vitro.Our results demonstrate that rLipQ significantly lowers the expression level of pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α& IFN-γ) and augments the level of anti inflammatory cytokines such as IL-4 & IL-10as compared to LPS stimulated macrophages. An up-regulation of anti-inflammatory and down-regulation of pro-inflammatory cytokines levels in rLipQ pretreated macrophages implies immuno-modulatory functions in TB patients. Interestingly, rLipQ also inhibited the expression of iNOS, TLR-2 and transcription factor NF-kB in LPS stimulated macrophages whereas the expression of TLR-4 remains unchanged. The inhibition in the expression of these signaling molecules has been correlated to the inhibition of NO production in macrophages. Taken together, these studies demonstrate that rLipQ is a novel lipase that is highly immunogenic and may play an important role in the virulence and pathogenesis of M. tuberculosis infection, by altering the balance of cytokines, which might help to assess prognosis and contribute to a better understanding against host-pathogen interactions.

Application of pesticide in agricultural fields is "unnecessary evil" for non-target microflora and fauna. Hence, to identify the safer pesticide molecules against non-target microbes, a long-term pesticide experiment was initiated at National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack, India. In the present study, the effect of continuous application of chlorpyrifos (0.5kgha-1) in rice fields on non-target groups of soil microbes and nematodes was studied for seven seasons (four wet and three dry seasons) during 2009-2013. Treatments were arranged in a randomized complete block design with four replications of chlorpyrifos-treated (0.5kg a.i. ha-1) (CT) and untreated control (UT) plots. During seven seasons of experimentation, regular application of chlorpyrifos had no significant effect on population of heterotrophic aerobic, anaerobic, oligotrophic and copiotrophic bacteria in CT compared to UT, whereas, population of asymbiotic aerobic nitrogen fixer, nitrifiers, denitrifiers, gram positive and spore-forming bacteria were significantly reduced by nearly 0.25-2 fold in CT than UT. However, comparatively less deviation in population of actinomycetes, fungi, phosphate solubilizing and sulfur oxidizing bacteria were observed in CT than UT. Significant interactions were found between effects of chlorpyrifos with time in population dynamics of microbes. In plant parasitic nematode species, Meloidogyne graminicola (RRKN) and Hirschmanniella spp. (RRN), were significantly lower (p<0.01) in CT compared to UT after first year onwards. The overall observation of five years data indicated that the RRKN population showed a decreasing trend (R2=0.644) whereas RRN showed increasing trend (R2=0.932) in CT. The drastic chlorpyrifos dissipation was noticed after 15 days of application from the initial residue of 0.25mgkg-1 soil, which indicated that chlorpyrifos residue in rice field soil was not persistent and its half-life was found to be 4.02 days. Overall, the present findings revealed that non-target effect of repetitive application of chloropyrifos (0.5kgha-1) on soil microbes and nematodes was found less under rice-rice cropping system.

Fly ash (FA), a byproduct of coal combustion in thermal power plants, has been considered as a problematic solid waste and its safe disposal is a cause of concern. Several studies proposed that FA can be used as a soil additive; however its effect on microbial response, soil enzymatic activities and heavy metal accumulation in soil and grain of rice (cv. Naveen) to fly ash (FA) application was studied in a pot experiment during dry season 2011 in an Inceptisol. Fly ash was applied at a rate of zero per cent (FS), five per cent (FA5), ten per cent (FA10), twenty per cent (FA20), 40 per cent (FA40) and 100 per cent (FA100) on soil volume basis with nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) (40:20:20mg N:P:Kkg(-1) soil) with six replications. Heavy metals contents in soil and plant parts were analysed after harvest of crop. On the other hand, microbial population and soil enzymatic activities were analysed at panicle initiation stage (PI, 65 days after transplanting) of rice. There was no significant change in the concentration of zinc (Zn), iron (Fe), copper (Cu), manganese (Mn), cadmium (Cd) and chromium (Cr) with application of fly ash up to FA10. However, at FA100 there was significant increase of all metals concentration in soil than other treatments. Microorganisms differed in their response to the rate of FA application. Population of both fungi and actinomycetes decreased with the application of fly ash, while aerobic heterotrophic bacterial population did not change significantly up to FA40. On the other hand, total microbial activity measured in terms of Fluorescein diacetate (FDA) assay, and denitrifiers showed an increased trend up to FA40. However, activities of both alkaline and acid phosphatase were decreased with the application of FA. Application of FA at lower levels (ten to twenty per cent on soil volume basis) in soil enhanced micronutrients content, microbial activities and crop yield.

The microbial biomass carbon (MBC) and carbon mineralization of fly ash (FA) amended soil at (0 %, 1.25 %, 2.5 %, 5 %, 10 % and 20 % FA; v/v) was investigated under laboratory conditions for 120 days at 60 % soil water-holding capacity and 25 ± 1°C temperature. The results demonstrated that soil respiration and microbial activities were not suppressed up to 2.5 % FA amendment and these activities decreased significantly at 10 % and 20 % FA treatment with respect to control. Application of 10 % and 20 % FA treated soils showed a decreasing trend of soil MBC with time; and the decrease was significant throughout the period of incubation. The study concluded that application of FA up to 2.5 % can thus be safely used without affecting the soil biological activity and thereby improve nutrient cycling in agricultural soils.

An experiment was conducted to assess the effect of fly ash deposition without and with (0.25, 0.50, 1.0 and 1.5 g m(-2 )day(-1)) foliar dusting on the photosynthesis, stomatal conductance, transpiration, leaf temperature, albedo and productivity of rice. Dusting of 0.5 g m(-2 )day(-1) fly ash and above significantly reduced the photosynthesis, stomatal conductance, transpiration and albedo. Panicle initiation and flowering stages were more influenced by the fly ash deposition as compared to active tillering stage. At higher rates of fly ash deposition, all growth and yield parameters were significantly influenced due to increased heat load and reduced intercellular CO2 concentration. A significant reduction of 12.3, 15.7 and 20.2 % in grain yield was recorded over control when fly ash was dusted at 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 g m(-2 )day(-1), respectively.

OBJECTIVE: The aims of the study are to assess the quality of sleep in recently recovered COVID-19 and long-COVID cases and to determine its associations with fatigue and pain. METHODS: Post-COVID-19 cases ( n = 201) and controls ( n = 206) were assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index questionnaire for sleep quality, Fatigue Severity Scale for fatigue, and Numeric Pain Rating Scale for pain in this observational study. RESULTS: Global Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index score was higher ( P ≤ 0.001) among cases (5.7 ± 5.1; 95% confidence interval, 5.0-6.4) than controls (2.1 ± 2.0; 95% confidence interval, 1.8-2.4). Normal sleep latency was observed in 56 (27.9%) patients and 164 (79.6%) controls ( P < 0.001). Fatigue Severity Scale score was higher ( P ≤ 0.001) among cases (16.8 ± 10.2; 95% confidence interval, 15.4, 18.2) against controls (10.9 ± 4.1; 95% confidence interval, 10.3-11.4). The Fatigue Severity Scale scores in mild, moderate, and severe COVID-19 were 14.3 ± 8.1, 22.1 ± 10.8, and 22.8 ± 13, respectively ( P < 0.001) and higher in the older (20.7 ± 12.1) and middle-aged (19.6 ± 10.3) than in younger (13.9 ± 8.3) ( P ≤ 0.001) cases. The global Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index score was positively correlated with the Fatigue Severity Scale ( r = 0.755, P < 0.001) and Numeric Pain Rating Scale scores ( r = 0.657, P < 0.001). Numeric Pain Rating Scale score correlated with Fatigue Severity Scale score ( r = 0.710, P < 0.001). Fatigue Severity Scale and global Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index scores were higher in the long-COVID group ( P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Significantly poor sleep quality was observed in post-COVID-19 individuals including long COVID being positively associated with fatigue and pain.
