RESUMO

Since their discovery, extracellular vesicles (EVs) have changed our view on how organisms interact with their extracellular world. EVs are able to traffic a diverse array of molecules across different species and even domains, facilitating numerous functions. In this study, we investigate EV production in Euryarchaeota, using the model organism Haloferax volcanii. We uncover that EVs enclose RNA, with specific transcripts preferentially enriched, including those with regulatory potential, and conclude that EVs can act as an RNA communication system between haloarchaea. We demonstrate the key role of an EV-associated small GTPase for EV formation in H. volcanii that is also present across other diverse evolutionary branches of Archaea. We propose the name, ArvA, for the identified family of archaeal vesiculating GTPases. Additionally, we show that two genes in the same operon with arvA (arvB and arvC) are also involved in EV formation. Both, arvB and arvC, are closely associated with arvA in the majority of other archaea encoding ArvA. Our work demonstrates that small GTPases involved in membrane deformation and vesiculation, ubiquitous in Eukaryotes, are also present in Archaea and are widely distributed across diverse archaeal phyla.

Ten-Eleven-Translocation-2 (Tet2) is a DNA methylcytosine dioxygenase that functions as a tumor suppressor in hematopoietic malignancies. We examined the role of Tet2 in tumor-tissue myeloid cells and found that Tet2 sustains the immunosuppressive function of these cells. We found that Tet2 expression is increased in intratumoral myeloid cells both in mouse models of melanoma and in melanoma patients and that this increased expression is dependent on an IL-1R-MyD88 pathway. Ablation of Tet2 in myeloid cells suppressed melanoma growth in vivo and shifted the immunosuppressive gene expression program in tumor-associated macrophages to a proinflammatory one, with a concomitant reduction of the immunosuppressive function. This resulted in increased numbers of effector T cells in the tumor, and T cell depletion abolished the reduced tumor growth observed upon myeloid-specific deletion of Tet2. Our findings reveal a non-cell-intrinsic, tumor-promoting function for Tet2 and suggest that Tet2 may present a therapeutic target for the treatment of non-hematologic malignancies.

BACKGROUND: Osteosarcoma is the most common malignant primary bone tumor in infants and adolescents. The lack of understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying osteosarcoma progression and metastasis has contributed to a plateau in the development of current therapies. Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress has emerged as a significant contributor to the malignant progression of tumors, but its potential regulatory mechanisms in osteosarcoma progression remain unknown. METHODS: In this study, we collected RNA sequencing and clinical data of osteosarcoma from The TCGA, GSE21257, and GSE33382 cohorts. Differentially expressed analysis and the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression analysis were conducted to identify prognostic genes and construct an ER stress-related prognostic signature (ERSRPS). Survival analysis and time dependent ROC analysis were performed to evaluate the predictive performance of the constructed prognostic signature. The "ESTIMATE" package and ssGSEA algorithm were utilized to evaluate the differences in immune cells infiltration between the groups. Cell-based assays, including CCK-8, colony formation, and transwell assays and co-culture system were performed to assess the effects of the target gene and small molecular drug in osteosarcoma. Animal models were employed to assess the anti-osteosarcoma effects of small molecular drug. RESULTS: Five genes (BLC2, MAGEA3, MAP3K5, STC2, TXNDC12) were identified to construct an ERSRPS. The ER stress-related gene Stanniocalcin 2 (STC2) was identified as a risk gene in this signature. Additionally, STC2 knockdown significantly inhibited osteosarcoma cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. Furthermore, the ER stress-related gene STC2 was found to downregulate the expression of MHC-I molecules in osteosarcoma cells, and mediate immune responses through influencing the infiltration and modulating the function of CD8+ T cells. Patients categorized by risk scores showed distinct immune status, and immunotherapy response. ISOX was subsequently identified and validated as an effective anti-osteosarcoma drug through a combination of CMap database screening and in vitro and in vivo experiments. CONCLUSION: The ERSRPS may guide personalized treatment decisions for osteosarcoma, and ISOX holds promise for repurposing in osteosarcoma treatment.

Corneal alkali burns often occur in industrial production and daily life, combined with infection, and may cause severe eye disease. Oxidative stress and neovascularization (NV) are important factors leading to a poor prognosis. URP20 is an antimicrobial peptide that has been proven to treat bacterial keratitis in rats through antibacterial and anti-NV effects. Therefore, in this study, the protective effect and influence mechanism of URP20 were explored in a rat model of alkali burn together with pathogenic bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli) infection. In addition, human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) and human corneal epithelial cells (HCECs) were selected to verify the effects of URP20 on vascularization and oxidative stress. The results showed that URP20 treatment could protect corneal tissue, reduce corneal turbidity, and reduce the NV pathological score. Furthermore, URP20 significantly inhibited the expression of the vascularization marker proteins VEGFR2 and CD31. URP20 also reduced the migration ability of HUVECs. In terms of oxidative stress, URP20 significantly upregulated SOD and GSH contents in corneal tissue and HCECs (treated with 200 µM H2O2) and promoted the expression of the antioxidant protein Nrf2/HO-1. At the same time, MDA and ROS levels were also inhibited. In conclusion, URP20 could improve corneal injury combined with bacterial infection in rats caused by alkali burns through antibacterial, anti-NV, and antioxidant activities.

BACKGROUND: Cervical cancer (CCa) is the fourth most common cancer among females, with high incidence and mortality rates. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are key regulators of various biological processes in cancer. However, the biological role of circRNAs in cervical cancer (CCa) remains largely unknown. This study aimed to elucidate the role of circMAST1 in CCa. METHODS: CircRNAs related to CCa progression were identified via a circRNA microarray. The relationship between circMAST1 levels and clinicopathological features of CCa was evaluated using the clinical specimens and data of 131 patients with CCa. In vivo and in vitro experiments, including xenograft animal models, cell proliferation assay, transwell assay, RNA pull-down assay, whole-transcriptome sequencing, RIP assay, and RNA-FISH, were performed to investigate the effects of circMAST1 on the malignant behavior of CCa. RESULTS: CircMAST1 was significantly downregulated in CCa tissues, and low expression of CircMAST1 was correlated with a poor prognosis. Moreover, our results demonstrated that circMAST1 inhibited tumor growth and lymph node metastasis of CCa. Mechanistically, circMAST1 competitively sequestered N-acetyltransferase 10 (NAT10) and hindered Yes-associated protein (YAP) mRNA ac4C modification to promote its degradation and inhibit tumor progression in CCa. CONCLUSIONS: CircMAST1 plays a major suppressive role in the tumor growth and metastasis of CCa. In particular, circMAST1 can serve as a potential biomarker and novel target for CCa.

RESUMO

Although malondialdehyde and methylglyoxal have the same molecular formula, they have different chemistry in forming protein adducts. The major lysine adduct of malondialdehyde in hemoglobin is the N-propenal type, while that of methylglyoxal is N6-(1-carboxyethyl)lysine. This Letter provides evidence that the "methylglyoxal-like" hemoglobin adducts are not derived from malondialdehyde. This Letter also discusses the quantification of malondialdehyde-induced post-translational modifications in human hemoglobin by different mass spectrometry-based methods.

The primary underlying contributor for cataract, a leading cause of vision impairment and blindness worldwide, is oxidative stress. Oxidative stress triggers protein damage, cell apoptosis, and subsequent cataract formation. The nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) serves as a principal redox transcriptional factor in the lens, offering a line of defense against oxidative stress. In response to oxidative challenges, Nrf2 dissociates from its inhibitor, Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 (Keap1), moves to the nucleus, and binds to the antioxidant response element (ARE) to activate the Nrf2-dependent antioxidant system. In parallel, oxidative stress also induces endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS). Reactive oxygen species (ROS), generated during oxidative stress, can directly damage proteins, causing them to misfold. Initially, the unfolded protein response (UPR) activates to mitigate excessive misfolded proteins. Yet, under persistent or severe stress, the failure to rectify protein misfolding leads to an accumulation of these aberrant proteins, pushing the UPR towards an apoptotic pathway, further contributing to cataractogenesis. Importantly, there is a dynamic interaction between the Nrf2 antioxidant system and the ERS/UPR mechanism in the lens. This interplay, where ERS/UPR can modulate Nrf2 expression and vice versa, holds potential therapeutic implications for cataract prevention and treatment. This review explores the intricate crosstalk between these systems, aiming to illuminate strategies for future advancements in cataract prevention and intervention. The Nrf2-dependent antioxidant system communicates and cross-talks with the ERS/UPR pathway. Both mechanisms are proposed to play pivotal roles in the onset of cataract formation.

Low-dimensional tin selenide nanoribbons (SnSe NRs) show a wide range of applications in optoelectronics fields such as optical switches, photodetectors, and photovoltaic devices due to the suitable band gap, strong light-matter interaction, and high carrier mobility. However, it is still challenging to grow high-quality SnSe NRs for high-performance photodetectors so far. In this work, we successfully synthesized high-quality p-type SnSe NRs by chemical vapor deposition and then fabricated near-infrared photodetectors. The SnSe NR photodetectors show a high responsivity of 376.71 A W-1, external quantum efficiency of 5.65 × 104%, and detectivity of 8.66 × 1011Jones. In addition, the devices show a fast response time with rise and fall time of up to 43µs and 57µs, respectively. Furthermore, the spatially resolved scanning photocurrent mapping shows very strong photocurrent at the metal-semiconductor contact regions, as well as fast generation-recombination photocurrent signals. This work demonstrated that p-type SnSe NRs are promising material candidates for broad-spectrum and fast-response optoelectronic devices.

BACKGROUND: Fruit, vegetable, and fruit juice intake is associated with the risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). However, the conclusion is limited and conflicted. The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to investigate the association between fruit, vegetable, and fruit juice consumption and the risk of GDM. METHODS: To find relevant studies, we searched PubMed, The Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Embase, ScienceDirect, PsycINFO, CINAHL, Ovid, EBSCO, CBM, CNKI, Wanfang Data, and VIP for the report on prospective cohort studies published from inception to April 8, 2022. Summary relative risks (RR) and 95% confidence intervals (Cis) were estimated using a random-effects model. RESULTS: A total of 12 studies with 32,794 participants were included in the meta-analysis. Total fruit consumption was associated with a lower risk of GDM (RR = 0.92, 95% CI = 0.86-0.99). Whereas an increasing the consumption of vegetable, including all vegetable (RR = 0.95, 95% CI = 0.87-1.03), starchy vegetable (RR = 1.01, 95% CI = 0.82-1.26), and fruit juice (RR = 0.97, 95% CI = 0.91-1.04) was not associated with a reduction in the risk of GDM. In a dose‒response analysis of eight studies, a 3% reduction in risk of GDM for a 100 g/d increase in fruit consumption (RR = 0.97, 95% CI = 0.96-0.99). CONCLUSIONS: The findings suggest that higher fruit consumption may reduce the risk of GDM, with a 3% reduction in the risk of GDM for every 100 g/d increase in fruit intake. Higher-quality prospective studies or randomized clinical trials are required to validate the effect of different variations of fruits, vegetables, and fruit juice consumption on the risk of GDM.

Bacterial infection has been a major threat to worldwide human health, in particular with the ever-increasing level of antimicrobial resistance. Given the complex microenvironment of bacterial infections, conventional use of antibiotics typically renders a low efficacy in infection control, thus calling for novel strategies for effective antibacterial therapies. As an excellent candidate for antibiotics delivery, mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) demonstrate unique physicochemical advantages in antibacterial therapies. Beyond the delivery capability, extensive efforts have been devoted in engineering MSNs to be bioactive to further synergize the therapeutic effect in infection control. In this review, we critically reviewed the essential properties of MSNs that benefit their antibacterial application, followed by a themed summary of strategies in manipulating MSNs into bioactive nanoplatforms for enhanced antibacterial therapies. The chemically functionalized platform, photo-synergized platform, physical antibacterial platform and targeting-directed platform are introduced in details, where the clinical translation challenges of these MSNs-based antibacterial nanoplatforms are briefly discussed afterwards. This review provides critical information of the emerging trend in turning bioinert MSNs into bioactive antibacterial agents, paving the way to inspire and translate novel MSNs-based nanotherapies in combating bacterial infection diseases.

Dysmenorrhea is associated with epilepsy. Existing evidence is mostly limited to observational studies, which are liable to confounding and bias. This study investigated the causal relevance of dysmenorrhea on epilepsy using Mendelian randomization (MR). We extracted instrumental variants for dysmenorrhea and epilepsy from published genomewide association study data, focusing on individuals of East Asian descent. A comprehensive suite of MR estimations and sensitivity analyses was performed to ensure the robustness of the findings. Each outcome database was analyzed separately in both directions. For dysmenorrhea and epilepsy, 7 and 3 genetic variants respectively were selectively extracted as instrumental variants. The results suggest that dysmenorrhea is causally associated with an elevated risk of epilepsy (inverse variance weighted [IVW]: OR = 1.26; 95% CI [1.07, 1.47]; p = 4.42 × 10-3); conversely, no strong evidence was found to corroborate that epilepsy exerts a causal effect on the incidence of dysmenorrhea (IVW: OR = 1.04; 95% CI [0.82, 1.33]; p = .72). These findings provide novel insights into the causal relationship between dysmenorrhea and epilepsy, which may have implications for clinical decision-making in patients with epilepsy and dysmenorrhea.

BACKGROUND: Residual neuromuscular block after using neuromuscular blocking agents is a common and potentially harmful complication of general anesthesia. Neostigmine is a widely used antagonist, but its optimal dose for elderly patients is unclear. OBJECTIVES: To compare the optimal dosage and safety of neostigmine for reversing shallow residual block in elderly patients after cisatracurium-induced neuromuscular block. METHODS: A randomized controlled trial was conducted in 196 elderly patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery under general anesthesia with cisatracurium. Patients were assigned to receive either no neostigmine (control group) or neostigmine at 20 µg/kg, 40 µg/kg or 50 µg/kg when train-of-four (TOF) ratio reached 0.2 at the end of surgery. The primary outcome was the time to reach TOF ratio of 0.9 after administration. Secondary outcomes included TOF ratio at 10 min after administration, postoperative nausea and vomiting, postoperative cognitive impairment and post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) stay time. RESULTS: The time to reach TOF ratio of 0.9 in the 20 µg/kg, 40 µg/kg and 50 µg/kg groups was significantly shorter than the control group (H = 104.257, P < 0.01), and the time of 40 µg/kg group and 50 µg/kg group was significantly shorter than the 20 µg/kg group (P < 0.001). There was no significant difference between 40 µg/kg and 50 µg/kg groups (P = 0.249). The TOF ratio at 10 min after administration showed similar results. There were no significant differences among groups in postoperative nausea and vomiting, postoperative cognitive impairment or post-operation hospital stay. CONCLUSIONS: Timely use of neostigmine after general anesthesia in elderly patients can significantly shorten time of TOF value reaching 0.9, among which 40 µg/kg dosage may be a more optimized choice. Mono-2-ethylhexyl phthalic acid (MEHP) is the most toxic metabolite of plasticizer di-2-ethylhexyl phthalic acid (DEHP), and there is limited information available on the effects of MEHP on neurotoxicity. This study aims to examine the neurotoxicity of MEHP and preliminarily explore its potential molecular mechanisms. We found that MEHP impeded the growth of zebrafish embryos and the neurodevelopmental-related gene expression at environmentally relevant concentrations. MEHP exposure also induces oxidative stress response and brain cell apoptosis accompanied by a decrease in acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity in zebrafish larvae. RNA-Seq and bioinformatics analysis showed that MEHP treatment altered the nervous system, neurogenic diseases, and visual perception pathways. The locomotor activity in dark-to-light cycles and phototaxis test confirmed the abnormal neural behavior of zebrafish larvae. Besides, the immune system has produced a large number of differentially expressed genes related to neural regulation. Inflammatory factor IL1ß and IL-17 signaling pathways highly respond to MEHP, indicating that inflammation caused by immune system imbalance is a potential mechanism of MEHP-induced neurotoxicity. This study expands the understanding of the toxicity and molecular mechanisms of MEHP, providing a new perspective for in-depth neurotoxicity exploration of similar compounds.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the current situation and related factors of adults environmental health knowledge-attitude-practice(KAP)in four cities. METHODS: From March to April 2021, 1252 permanent residents in Mianyang City, Ya'an City in Sichuan Province, Suzhou City and Yangzhou City in Jiangsu Province were investigated on environmental health KAP by using a self-made electronic questionnaire. Analysis of variance, multiple linear regression and Person rank correlation were used to analyze the difference of public environmental KAP level, related factors, and the correlation of knowledge, attitude and behavior scores. RESULTS: There were significant differences in the level of environmental health KAP among people in different cities(F=47.632, P<0.001), age group(F=34.676, P<0.001), education level(F=49.574, P<0.001), BMI(F=4.560, P=0.003), total annual family income(F=27.977, P<0.001), smoking status(t=11.121, P=0.001)and ways of ingesting environmental health knowledge(F=88.405, P<0.001), and except BMI, other items were the related factors of environmental health KAP. The score of environmental health attitude was higher than that of behavior and knowledge(F=154.34, P<0.001). The scores of knowledge and behavior, knowledge and attitude, attitude and behavior were correlated, and the correlation coefficients were 0.667, 0.414 and 0.450 respectively(P<0.01). CONCLUSION: The number of ways to acquire environmental health knowledge, total annual family income, education level, age and smoking status are all related factors of the adults environmental knowledge-attitude-practice level in four cities in 2021.

Chemosensory cells are specialized epithelial cells that act as sentinels near body entry sites. The majority of these cells express a cholinergic phenotype and utilize the taste signaling system to monitor the mucosal environment for potentially harmful substances, triggering protective reflexes. We report the identification of cells with a putative chemosensory role in the uterus. Presumptive chemosensory cells were immunoreactive to key components of the taste transduction, including the transient receptor potential channel M5 (TRPM5) and the phospholipase Cß2 (PLCB2). These cells localized to endometrial glandular and luminal epithelia, while absent from myometrium and perimetrium. Double immunofluorescence revealed co-expression of chemosensory cell markers with the acetylcholine (ACh) synthesizing enzyme, choline acetyltransferase (ChAT). Further, we investigated the regional distribution and expression of chemosensory cells at different stages of the estrous cycle. Uteri were collected postmortem from gilts and stages of the ovarian cycle were determined macroscopically. The uteri were classified into three groups: prepubertal (PB), follicular (FOL), or luteal (LUT). The number of ChAT-immunoreactive cells was increased in the luminal epithelium in the caudal compartment compared to the cranial region of the uterine horn, and at the LUT compared to PB and FOL stages. An increase in ChAT protein abundance in LUT uterine homogenates was noted, although not followed by an increase in ACh content. In summary, our study has identified a hitherto unrecognized cholinergic cell in the uterus that has chemosensory traits and may be involved in a multitude of biological processes.

We propose a lithography-free wide-angle polarization-insensitive ultra-broadband absorber by using three pairs of tungsten (W) and calcium fluoride (CaF2) films. The simulation results show that the absorptivity is larger than 0.9 with normal incidence in the wavelength range from 400 nm to 1529 nm. By adding a pair of CaF2-W films, we can get a broader absorption bandwidth with absorptivity larger than 0.9 over the wavelength of 400-1639 nm. In addition, the absorption performance is insensitive to the polarization and angle of incidence. The electric field distributions at the absorption peaks show that the absorption is originated from the destructive interference between the reflection waves from the top and bottom interfaces of the multilayer CaF2-W films. Furthermore, the ultra-broad bandwidth is attributed to the anti-reflection effect from the increased effective refractive index from top to down of the proposed absorber. Such physical mechanism of broadening bandwidth based on anti-reflection effect provides a new idea for the design of broadband absorber. Meanwhile, this broadband absorber is a good candidate for potential applications such as detection and energy harvesting.

Atherosclerosis (AS) is a leading cause of vascular diseases that severely threats the human health due to the lack of efficient therapeutic methods. During the development and progress of AS, macrophages play critical roles, which are polarized into pro-inflammatory M1 phenotype to excrete abundant cytokines and overproduce reactive oxygen species (ROS), and take up excess amount of lipid to form foam cells. In this work, we developed a MnO2-based nanomedicine to re-educate macrophages for targeting AS therapy. The MnO2 was one-pot synthesized under mild condition, showing intrinsic catalase-mimic activity for self-oxygenation by using endogenous H2O2 as substrate. Moreover, the mesoporous structure as well as the abundant metal coordination sites in MnO2 structure facilitated the loading of an anti-AS drug of curcumin (Cur), achieving extraordinarily high drug loading capacity of 54%. Cur displayed a broad spectrum of anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory capabilities to repolarize M1 macrophages into M2 phenotype, and the catalytic MnO2 recovered the function of lipid efflux transporter to remove lipid from cells by suppressing HIF-1α. Collectively, the nanocarrier and the payload drug functioned as an all-active nanoplatform to synergistically alleviate the syndromes of AS. In ApoE-/- mice model, the nanosystem could significantly prolong the circulation half-life of Cur by sixfold, and enhance drug accumulation in atherosclerotic lesion by 3.5-fold after intravenous injection by virtue of surface hyaluronic acid (HA) modification. As a result, a robust anti-AS efficacy was achieved as evidenced by the decrease of atherosclerotic lesion, plaque area, lipid level.

OBJECTIVE: The systemic inflammation response index (SIRI) is an independent prognostic factor for many malignant tumors. However, the value of this factor in patients with clinical T1-2N0 (cT1-2N0) oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is still unclear. METHODS: We calculated SIRI of 235 cT1-2N0 OSCC patients from 2013 to 2017. Multivariate cox regression analysis was applied to verify the prognostic significance of SIRI. Kaplan-Meier curves were plotted to analyze the overall survival (OS) and disease-specific survival (DSS) for cT1-2N0 OSCC patients. RESULTS: According to the optimal cutoff point of SIRI, we divided cT1-2N0 OSCC patients into high SIRI group (SIRI ≥ 1.3) and low SIRI group (SIRI < 1.3). SIRI was an independent prognostic indicator for OS (HR = 2.87; 95% CI = 1.35-6.10; p = .006) and DSS (HR = 2.17; 95% CI = 1.10-4.27; p = .025). High SIRI had a significantly poorer OS (p = .001) and DSS (p = .007) in survival analysis than the low SIRI. Moreover, the prognostic value of SIRI was significantly stronger than neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR). CONCLUSIONS: Preoperative SIRI can be regarded as a meaningful indicator for poor survival of cT1-2N0 OSCC patients, and it is a promising tool to formulate the best individualized treatment for high-risk patients.

Obesity, closely related to systematic metabolic disorders, has become a major public health problem in recent decades. Here, we aimed to study the function of Parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP) on high fat diet (HFD) induced murine obesity. Male C57BL/6J mice were transduced with adeno-associated virus vector encoding PTHrP (AAV-PTHrP) or adeno-associated virus control vector (AAV-Vehicle), following with HFD for 8 weeks. In addition, mice without transduction were fed on normal diet or HFD, respectively. Histological, metabolic and biochemical changes were detected. At the endpoint of experiment, body weight of mice treated with AAV-PTHrP did not increase as much as mice with AAV-Vehicle, but similar as mice with normal diet. Food efficiency ratio and weight of interscapular brown adipose tissue and epididymal white adipose tissue in mice overexpressed PTHrP were also lower than mice transducted with AAV-Vehicle. Besides, administration of AAV-PTHrP inhibited HFD-induced adipocyte hypertrophy. Protein level of PKA signaling pathway and thermogenic gene in adipose tissue exhibited a significant raise in HFD + AAV-PTHrP group, whereas transcription of inflammatory gene were decreased. Additionally, PTHrP overexpression ameliorated HFD-induced dyslipidemia, hepatic steatosis and insulin sensitivity. In HFD-induced murine obesity model, PTHrP is crucial to maintain metabolic homeostasis. PTHrP drives white adipose tissue browning and inhibits whitening of brown adipose tissue. Most importantly, PTHrP prevented HFD-induced obesity, hepatic steatosis and insulin resistance.

OBJECTIVES: The establishment of cut-offs for normal amniotic fluid volume (AFV) is valuable to predict perinatal outcomes. However, the most common methods to measure AFV are not accurate enough. It is important to understand factors that may be able to increase the accuracy of the calculation of AFV cut-off values. The objective of this study was to verify the correlation between AFV and estimated fetal weight (EFW). METHODS: Records from almost 7,000 patients between 2012 and 2017 were accessed through hospital databases. The AFV measurements included in our analysis were obtained using the maximum vertical pocket technique.
