RESUMO

Plant trichome development is influenced by diverse developmental and environmental signals, but the molecular mechanisms involved are not well understood in most plant species. Fruit spines (trichomes) are an important trait in cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.), as they affect both fruit smoothness and commercial quality. Spine Base Size1 (CsSBS1) has been identified as essential for regulating fruit spine size in cucumber. Here, we discovered that CsSBS1 controls a season-dependent phenotype of spine base size in wild-type plants. Decreased light intensity led to reduced expression of CsSBS1 and smaller spine base size in wild-type plants, but not in the mutants with CsSBS1 deletion. Additionally, knockout of CsSBS1 resulted in smaller fruit spine base size and eliminated the light-induced expansion of spines. Overexpression of CsSBS1 increased spine base size and rescued the decrease in spine base size under low light conditions. Further analysis revealed that ELONGATED HYPOTCOTYL5 (HY5), a major transcription factor involved in light signaling pathways, directly binds to the promoter of CsSBS1 and activates its expression. Knockout of CsHY5 led to smaller fruit spine base size and abolished the light-induced expansion of spines. Taken together, our study findings have clarified a CsHY5-CsSBS1 regulatory module that mediates light-regulated spine expansion in cucumber. This finding offers a strategy for cucumber breeders to develop fruit with stable appearance quality under changing light conditions.

Heat shock proteins (HSPs) are a group of highly conserved proteins found in a wide range of organisms. In recent years, members of the HSP family were overexpressed in various tumors and widely involved in oncogenesis, tumor development, and therapeutic resistance. In our previous study, DNAJC24, a member of the DNAJ/HSP40 family of HSPs, was found to be closely associated with the malignant phenotype of hepatocellular carcinoma. However, its relationship with other malignancies needs to be further explored. Herein, we demonstrated that DNAJC24 exhibited upregulated expression in LUAD tissue samples and predicted poor survival in LUAD patients. The upregulation of DNAJC24 expression promoted proliferation and invasion of LUAD cells in A549 and NCI-H1299 cell lines. Further studies revealed that DNAJC24 could regulate the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway by affecting AKT phosphorylation. In addition, a series of experiments such as Co-IP and mass spectrometry confirmed that DNAJC24 could directly interact with PCNA and promoted the malignant phenotypic transformation of LUAD. In conclusion, our results suggested that DNAJC24 played an important role in the progression of LUAD and may serve as a specific prognostic biomarker for LUAD patients. The DNAJC24/PCNA/AKT axis may be a potential target for future individualized and precise treatment of LUAD patients.

The adsorption energy of the reaction intermediates has a crucial influence on the electrocatalytic activity. Ni-based materials possess high oxygen evolution reaction (OER) performance in alkaline, however too strong binding of *OH and high energy barrier of the rate-determining step (RDS) severely limit their OER activity. Herein, a facile strategy is shown to fabricate novel vertical nanorod-like arrays hybrid structure with the interface contact of S-doped Ni(OH)2 and CeO2 in situ grown on Ni foam (S-Ni(OH)2 /CeO2 /NF) through a one-pot route. The alcohol molecules oxidation reaction experiments and theoretical calculations demonstrate that S-doping and CeO2 -interfacing significantly modulate the binding energies of OER intermediates toward optimal value and reduce the energy barrier of the RDS, contributing to remarkable OER activity for S-Ni(OH)2 /CeO2 /NF with an ultralow overpotential of 196 mV at 10 mA cm-2 and long-term durability over 150 h for the OER. This work offers an efficient doping and interfacing strategy to tune the binding energy of the OER intermediates for obtaining high-performance electrocatalysts.

OBJECTIVE: We aimed to investigate the outcomes and feasibility of a retroperitoneoscopic clampless, sutureless hybrid technique in the management of renal hilar tumors. METHODS: A retrospective cohort of consecutive patients with renal hilar tumors who received retroperitoneoscopic clampless, sutureless hybrid therapy between January 2017 and April 2021 was included. The hybrid surgical technique involved microwave ablation (MWA), followed by clampless tumor enucleation and sutureless hemostasis. Surgical, pathological, and oncological outcomes were recorded and analyzed. RESULTS: Sixty patients were included in this study. The median tumor size was 3.5 cm (2-5), the median RENAL score was 7 (range 6-10), the median operative time was 110 min (70-130), and the median estimated blood loss was 80 mL (30-130). The median length of postoperative hospital stay was 3 days (2-4), and no warm ischemia time was observed, except in one patient who required conversion to conventional on-clamp laparoscopic partial nephrectomy (LPN) with a 10 min warm ischemia time. Three minor complications (Clavien-Dindo grade I) and one major complication (Clavien-Dindo grade III) were recorded postoperatively. Thus far, no blood transfusions have been required. Renal dysfunction or tumor recurrence did not occur within a median follow-up of 45 months. CONCLUSION: The retroperitoneoscopic hybrid technique involving MWA, clampless tumor enucleation, and sutureless hemostasis is a feasible and safe option for the management of selective renal hilar tumors. Complete tumor removal with maximal renal function preservation can be achieved, with a low complication rate.

Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) is a widely cultivated cucurbitaceae crop appreciated by consumers worldwide. However, the long vine and abundant lateral branches of currently cultivated watermelon varieties hinder light simplification and mechanized cultivation, affecting plant spacing and row spacing requirements. To address this, the development of watermelon with dwarf and branchless traits has become a crucial direction for the industry. In previous studies, the genes controlling dwarf (Cldw-1) and branchless (Clbl) traits were mapped and cloned. Marker-assisted selection markers, dCAPS3 and dCAPS10, were developed for these traits, respectively. In this study, the dwarf germplasm WM102 and the branchless germplasm WCZ were crossed to obtain F1 .Further self-crossing of the F1 individuals resulted in the F2 population. Through multiple generations of self-pollination, a new watermelon germplasm DM with double mutation (dwarf and branchless) was obtained. DM exhibited stable inheritance without segregation. Moreover, DM was used as a donor parent for crossing with commercial watermelon materials, and near-isogenic lines (NILs) with the dwarf and branchless traits were developed. These NILs carry additional desirable agronomic traits and provide valuable genetic resources for future watermelon breeding programs, particularly in improving plant architecture and overall quality. The development and application of DM and NILs hold great potential for advancing the watermelon industry toward industrialization, large-scale cultivation, and enhanced plant architecture.

KEY MESSAGE: A SNP mutation in CmSN, encoding an EamA-like transporter, is responsible for fruit skin netting in melon. In maturing melon (Cucumis melo L.), the rind becomes reticulated or netted, a unique characteristic that dramatically changes the appearance of the fruit. However, little is known about the molecular basis of fruit skin netting formation in this important cucurbit crop. Here, we conducted map-based cloning of a skin netting (CmSN) locus using segregating populations derived from the cross between the smooth-fruit line H906 and the netted-fruit line H581. The results showed that CmSN was controlled by a single dominant gene and was primarily positioned on melon chromosome 2, within a physical interval of ~ 351 kb. Further fine mapping in a large F2 population narrowed this region to a 71-kb region harboring 5 genes. MELO3C010288, which encodes a protein in the EamA-like transporter family, is the best possible candidate gene for the netted phenotype. Two nonsynonymous single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were identified in the third and sixth exons of the CmSN gene and co-segregated with the skin netting (SN) phenotype among the genetic population. A genome-wide association study (GWAS) determined that CmSN is probably a domestication gene under selective pressure during the subspecies C. melo subsp. melo differentiation. The SNP in the third exon of CmSN (the leading SNP in GWAS) revealed a bi-allelic diversity in natural accessions with SN traits. Our results lay a foundation for deciphering the molecular mechanism underlying the formation of fruit skin netting in melon, as well as provide a strategy for genetic improvement of netted fruit using a marker-assisted selection approach.

OBJECTIVES: The tumor microenvironment and immune cell infiltration (ICI) associated with glioblastoma (GBM) play a vital role in cancer development, progression, and prognosis. This study aimed to establish an ICI-related prognostic biomarker and explore the associations between ICI signatures and radiomic features in patients with GBM. METHODS: The gene expression and survival data of patients with GBM were obtained from three databases. Based on the ICI pattern, an individualized ICI score for each GBM patient was developed in the discovery set (n = 400) and independently verified in the validation set (n = 374). A total of 5915 radiomic features were extracted from the intratumoral and peritumoral regions. Recursive feature elimination and support vector machine methods were performed to select the key features and generate a model predictive of low- or high- ICI scores. The prognostic value of the identified radio genomic model was examined in an independent dataset (n = 149) using imaging and survival data. RESULTS: We found that higher ICI scores often indicated worse patient prognosis (multivariable hazard ratio: 0.48 and 0.63 in discovery and validation set, respectively) and higher expression levels of immune checkpoint-related genes. A model that combined 11 radiomic features could well distinguish tumors with different ICI scores (AUC = 0.96, accuracy = 94%). This model was proven to be helpful for noninvasive prognostic stratification in an independent validation cohort. CONCLUSIONS: ICI scores may serve as an effective prognostic biomarker to characterize potential biological processes in patients with GBM. This ICI signature can be evaluated noninvasively through radiogenomic analysis. KEY POINTS: • Immune cell infiltration (ICI) scores can serve as an effective prognostic biomarker in patients with glioblastoma. • The ICI signature can be evaluated noninvasively through radiomic features derived from the intratumoral and peritumoral regions. • The prognostic value of the radiogenomic model can be verified by independent survival and MRI data.

OBJECTIVES: To characterize the structural plasticity of the contralesional hippocampus and its subfields in patients with unilateral glioma. METHODS: 3D T1-weighted MRI images were collected from 55 patients with tumors infiltrating the left (HipL, n = 27) or right (HipR, n = 28) hippocampus, along with 30 age- and sex-matched healthy controls (HC). Gray matter volume differences of the contralesional hippocampal regions and three control regions (superior frontal gyrus, caudate nucleus, and superior occipital gyrus) were evaluated using voxel-based morphometry (VBM) analyses. Volumetric differences in the hippocampus and its subregional volume were measured using the FreeSurfer software. RESULTS: Compared with HC, patients with unilateral hippocampal glioma exhibited significantly larger gray matter volume in the contralesional hippocampus and parahippocampal regions (cluster = 571 voxels for HipL; cluster 1 = 538 voxels and cluster 2 = 88 voxels for HipR; family-wise error corrected p < 0.05). No significant alterations were found in control regions. Volumetric analyses showed the same trend in the contralesional hippocampal subregions for both patient groups, including the CA1 head, CA3 head, hippocampus amygdala transition area (HATA), fimbria, and the granule cell molecular layer of the dentate gyrus head (GC-ML-DG head). Notably, the differences of the contralesional HATA (HipL: η2 = 0.418, corrected p = 0.002; HipR: η2 = 0.313, corrected p = 0.052) and fimbria (HipL: η2 = 0.450, corrected p < 0.001; HipR: η2 = 0.358, corrected p = 0.012) still held after the Bonferroni correction. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings provide evidence for macrostructural plasticity of the contralateral hippocampus in patients with unilateral hippocampal glioma. Specifically, HATA and fimbria exhibit great potential in this process. KEY POINTS: • Glioma infiltration of the hippocampal regions induces a significant increase in gray matter volume on the contralateral side. • Specifically, the HATA and fimbria regions exhibit favorable plastic potential in the process of lesion-induced structural remolding.

OBJECTIVE: Recurrence is a major factor in the poor prognosis of patients with glioma. The aim of this study was to predict glioma recurrence using machine learning based on radiomic features. METHODS: We recruited 77 glioma patients, consisting of 57 newly diagnosed patients and 20 patients with recurrence. After extracting the radiomic features from T2-weighted images, the data set was randomly divided into training (58 patients) and testing (19 patients) cohorts. An automated machine learning method (the Tree-based Pipeline Optimization Tool) was applied to generate 10 independent recurrence prediction models. The final model was determined based on the area under the curve (AUC) and average specificity. Moreover, an independent validation set of 20 patients with glioma was used to verify the model performance. RESULTS: Recurrence in glioma patients was successfully predicting by machine learning using radiomic features. Among the 10 recurrence prediction models, the best model achieved an accuracy of 0.81, an AUC value of 0.85, and a specificity of 0.69 in the testing cohort, but an accuracy of 0.75 and an AUC value of 0.87 in the independent validation set. CONCLUSIONS: Our algorithm that is generated by machine learning exhibits promising power and may predict recurrence noninvasively, thereby offering potential value for the early development of interventions to delay or prevent recurrence in glioma patients.

We assessed the efficacy and safety of sintilimab [an anti-programmed death (PD-1)] plus bevacizumab biosimilar (IBI305), and hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy (HAIC) in patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The patients received sintilimab (200 mg) plus IBI305 (7.5 mg/kg) and HAIC (FOLFOX for 23 h) and were treated every 3 weeks. The primary endpoint was the objective response rate (ORR) assessed by an independent review committee (IRC) per mRECIST v1.1. Twenty-nine patients were enrolled in our clinical trial (1 patient voluntarily withdrew due to adverse events after the initial treatment). Objective response was reached in 17/29 (58.6%) patients per mRECIST. A total of 19/29 (65.5%) patients became eligible for further treatment; 14 of them completed surgical resection; 1 (5.3%) achieved pathological complete response (pCR); and 5 (26.3%) reached major partial response (mPR). The 1-year OS rate was better in the PR or pCR+mPR+PR group than in the PD+SD group by either mRECIST or pathological assessment (p=0.039 and 0.006). The 1-year EFS rate was better in the PR group than in the PD+SD group by pathological assessment (p=0.007). The most common treatment-related adverse events (TEAEs) in 30 HCC patients included thrombocytopenia (40.0%), hypertension (23.3%), and leukopenia (23.3%). The grade 3-5 TEAEs that were observed were hypertension (10%), diarrhea (6.7%), asthenia (3.3%), and ascites (3.3%). Sintilimab plus IBI305 and HAIC showed promising efficacy and manageable safety in patients with unresectable HCC. It might represent a novel treatment option for these patients.

The phenomena of variability and interference in the natural frequencies of weight-sensing structures applied in complex working conditions must solve the problem of reducing or eliminating resonance under low-frequency vibrations to maximize stability, accuracy and reliability. The influence laws of the additional mass with relevant characteristics on the natural frequencies, which include the components of mass, stiffness and center-of-mass distribution, etc. Firstly, the theoretical formulas of the mathematical model are given based on different characteristics of the weight-sensing structure, and various combinations of additional masses on the weight-sensing structures are adjusted in the X-, Y-, and Z-directions. The key factors to be specifically considered in the theoretical formulas are discussed through simulation analysis and experimental validation. Secondly, the locking strength of the fastening screws of some components was changed, and another component was placed on the experimental platform in the experiment. The results show that the mass, center-of-mass, stiffness distribution and other factors of the additional mass have different effects on the natural frequencies, which are important for the demand for high-precision, high-stability weighing measurement. The results of this research can provide an effective scientific evaluation basis for the reliable prediction of natural frequencies.

Cordia subcordata trees or shrubs, belonging to the Boraginaceae family, have strong resistance and have adapted to their habitat on a tropical coral island in China, but the lack of genome information regarding its genetic background is unclear. In this study, the genome was assembled using both short/long whole genome sequencing reads and Hi-C reads. The assembled genome was 475.3 Mb, with 468.7 Mb (99.22%) of the sequences assembled into 16 chromosomes. Repeat sequences accounted for 54.41% of the assembled genome. A total of 26,615 genes were predicted, and 25,730 genes were functionally annotated using different annotation databases. Based on its genome and the other 17 species, phylogenetic analysis using 336 single-copy genes obtained from ortholog analysis showed that C. subcordata was a sister to Coffea eugenioides, and the divergence time was estimated to be 77 MYA between the two species. Gene family evolution analysis indicated that the significantly expanded gene families were functionally related to chemical defenses against diseases. These results can provide a reference to a deeper understanding of the genetic background of C. subcordata and can be helpful in exploring its adaptation mechanism on tropical coral islands in the future.

Fruit spine is an important trait in cucumber, affecting not only commercial quality, but also fruit smoothness, transportation and storage. Spine size is determined by a multi-cellular base. However, the molecular mechanism underlying the regulation of cucumber spine base remains largely unknown. Here, we report map-based cloning and characterization of a spine base size 1 (SBS1) gene, encoding a C2H2 zinc-finger transcription factor. Near-isogenic lines of cucumber were used to map, identify and quantify cucumber spine base size 1 (CsSBS1). Yeast-hybrid, bimolecular fluorescence complementation (BiFC), co-immunoprecipitation (Co-IP) and RNA-sequencing assays were used to explore the molecular mechanism of CsSBS1 in regulating spine base size development. CsSBS1 was specifically expressed in cucumber ovaries with particularly high expression in fruit spines. Overexpression of CsSBS1 resulted in large fruit spine base, while RNA-interference silencing of CsSBS1 inhibited the expansion of fruit spine base. Sequence analysis of natural cucumber accessions revealed that CsSBS1 was lost in small spine base accessions, resulting from a 4895 bp fragment deletion in CsSBS1 locus. CsSBS1 can form a trimeric complex with two positive regulators CsTTG1 and CsGL1 to regulate spine base development through ethylene signaling. A novel regulator network is proposed that the CsGL1/CsSBS1/CsTTG1 complex plays a significant role in regulating spine base formation and size, which offers a strategy for cucumber breeders to develop smooth fruit.

KEY MESSAGE: A SNP mutation in Clbl gene encoding TERMINAL FLOWER 1 protein is responsible for watermelon branchless. Lateral branching is one of the most important traits, which directly determines plant architecture and crop productivity. Commercial watermelon has the characteristics of multiple lateral branches, and it is time-consuming and labor-costing to manually remove the lateral branches in traditional watermelon cultivation. In our present study, a lateral branchless trait was identified in watermelon material WCZ, and genetic analysis revealed that it was controlled by a single recessive gene, which named as Clbl (Citrullus lanatus branchless). A bulked segregant sequencing (BSA-seq) and linkage analysis was conducted to primarily map Clbl on watermelon chromosome 4. Next-generation sequencing-aided marker discovery and a large mapping population consisting of 1406 F2 plants were used to further map Clbl locus into a 9011-bp candidate region, which harbored only one candidate gene Cla018392 encoding a TERMINAL FLOWER 1 protein. Sequence comparison of Cla018392 between two parental lines revealed that there was a SNP detected from C to A in the coding region in the branchless inbred line WCZ, which resulted in a mutation from alanine (GCA) to glutamate (GAA) at the fourth exon. A dCAPS marker was developed from the SNP locus, which was co-segregated with the branchless phenotype in both BC1 and F2 population, and it was further validated in 152 natural watermelon accessions. qRT-PCR and in situ hybridization showed that the expression level of Cla018392 was significantly reduced in the axillary bud and apical bud in branchless line WCZ. Ectopic expression of ClTFL1 in Arabidopsis showed an increased number of lateral branches. The results of this study will be helpful for better understanding the molecular mechanism of lateral branch development in watermelon and for the development of marker-assisted selection (MAS) for new branchless watermelon cultivars.

In the area of public safety and crime prevention, some research based on deep learning has achieved success in the detection of prohibited items for x-ray security inspection. However, the number of parameters and computational consumption of most object detection methods based on deep learning are huge, which makes the hardware requirements of these methods extremely high and limits their applications. In this paper, a lightweight prohibited item detection method based on YOLOV4 is proposed for x-ray security inspection. First, the MobilenetV3 is used to replace the backbone network of YOLOV4, and the depthwise separable convolution is used to optimize the neck and head of YOLOV4 to reduce the number of parameters and computational consumption. Second, an adaptive spatial-and-channel attention block is designed to optimize the neck of YOLOV4 in order to improve the feature extraction capability of our method and maintain the detection accuracy. Third, the focal loss is utilized to avoid the class imbalance problem during the training process. Finally, the method is evaluated on our real x-ray pseudocolor image dataset with YOLOV4 and YOLOV4-tiny. For the overall performance, the mean average precision of our method is 4.98% higher than YOLOV4-tiny and 0.07% lower than YOLOV4. The number of parameters and computational consumption of our method are slightly higher than YOLOV4-tiny and much lower than YOLOV4.

BACKGROUND: Epilepsy is one of the most common glioma complications, and the two may be connected in more ways than we understand. We aimed to investigate the clinical features of glioma-associated epilepsy and explore the risk factors associated with it. METHODS: We collected clinical information from 485 glioma patients in the Nanjing Brain Hospital and conducted 4 periodic follow-up visits. Based on the collected data, we analyzed the clinical characteristics of glioma patients with or without epilepsy and their relationship with survival. RESULTS: Among glioma patients, younger people were more likely to have epilepsy. However, epilepsy incidence was independent of gender. Patients with grade II gliomas were most likely to develop epilepsy, while those with grade IV gliomas were least likely. There was no difference in Karnofsky Performance Status scores between patients with glioma-associated epilepsy and those without epilepsy. Additionally, epilepsy was independently associated with longer survival in the World Health Organization grade IV glioma patients. For grades II, III, and IV tumors, the 1-year survival rate of the epilepsy group was higher than that of the non-epilepsy group. CONCLUSIONS: Epilepsy did not lead to worse admission performance and correlated with a better prognosis for patients with grade IV glioma.

In the present study, subcritical water extraction (SWE) assisted with deep eutectic solvent (DES) is used to extract Lentinus edodes polysaccharides (LEP). In addition, the antioxidant activity of the polysaccharide samples was also investigated. Based on a single factor test and response surface test, the optimal extraction factors were a liquid-solid solvent of 40:1 mL/g, extraction temperature of 147.23 °C, water content of 39.76% and extraction time of 17.58 min. Under these extraction conditions, the yield of LEP was 6.26 ± 0.08%. Compared with the SWE and hot water extraction (HWE), it improved by 19.24% and 17.01%, respectively. In addition, the results of monosaccharide composition, molecular weight, FT-IR, UV and SEM confirmed that the extracts had the features of polysaccharides. Interestingly, the polysaccharides obtained with the SWE assisted with the DES procedure showed a higher DPPH scavenging activity, hydroxyl radical scavenging activity and hydrogen peroxide scavenging activity, which indicated that the polysaccharides with this method had a stronger antioxidant activity. These findings demonstrated that the SWE-assisted DES is a strong method to obtain polysaccharides from Lentinus edodes for food, biopharmaceutical and other industrial production.

Pickering emulsions are particle-stabilized surfactant-free dispersions composed of two immiscible liquid phases, and emerge as attractive catalysis platform to surpass traditional technique barrier in some cases. In this review, we have comprehensively summarized the development and the catalysis applications of Pickering emulsions since the pioneering work in 2010. The explicit mechanism for Pickering emulsions will be initially discussed and clarified. Then, summarization is given to the design strategy of amphiphilic emulsion catalysts in two categories of intrinsic and extrinsic amphiphilicity. The progress of the unconventional catalytic reactions in Pickering emulsion is further described, especially for the polarity/solubility difference-driven phase segregation, "smart" emulsion reaction system, continuous flow catalysis, and Pickering interfacial biocatalysis. Challenges and future trends for the development of Pickering emulsion catalysis are finally outlined.

Cervical cancer stem cells (CCSCs) are considered major causes of chemoresistance/radioresistance and metastasis. Although several cell surface antigens have been identified in CCSCs, these markers vary among tumors because of CSC heterogeneity. However, whether these markers specifically distinguish CCSCs with different functions is unclear. Here, we demonstrated that CCSCs exist in two biologically distinct phenotypes characterized by different levels of cytosolic phospholipase A2α (cPLA2α) expression. Overexpression of cPLA2α results in a CD44+ CD24- phenotype associated with mesenchymal traits, including increased invasive and migration abilities, whereas CCSCs with cPLA2α downregulation express CD133 and show quiescent epithelial characteristics. In addition, cPLA2α regulates the reversible transition between mesenchymal and epithelial CCSC states through PKCζ, an atypical protein kinase C, which governs cancer cell state changes and the maintenance of various embryonic stem cell characteristics, further inhibiting ß-catenin-E-cadherin interaction in membrane and promoting ß-catenin translocation into the nucleus to affect the transcriptional regulation of stemness signals. We propose that reversible transitions between mesenchymal and epithelial CCSC states regulated by cPLA2α are necessary for cervical cancer metastasis and recurrence. Thus, cPLA2α might be an attractive therapeutic target for eradicating different states of CCSCs to eliminate tumors more effectively.

We reported an efficient multicomponent polyannulation for in situ generation of heteroaromatic hyperbranched polyelectrolytes by using readily accessible internal diynes and low-cost, commercially available arylnitriles, NaSbF6 , and H2 O/AcOH. The polymers were obtained in excellent yields (up to 99 %) with extraordinary high molecular weights (Mw up to 1.011×106 ) and low polydispersity indices. The resulting polymers showed good processibility and high quantum yields with tunable emission in the solid state, making them ideal materials for highly ordered fluorescent photopatterning. These hyperbranched polyelectrolytes also possessed strong ability to generate reactive oxygen species, which allowed their applications in efficient bacterial killing and customizable photodynamic patterning of living organisms in a simple and cost-effective way.
