RESUMO

Pseudorabies virus (PRV) belongs to the alpha herpesvirus family and is responsible for Aujeszky's disease in pigs. Similar to other alpha herpesviruses, PRV establishes a lifelong latent infection in trigeminal ganglion. These latently infected pigs serve as a reservoir for recurrent infections when reactivation is triggered, making the eradication of PRV a challenging task. However, the molecular mechanism underlying PRV latency and reactivation in neurons is still poorly understood due to limitations in the in vitro model. To establish a pseudorabies virus latency and reactivation model in primary neuron cultures, we isolated dorsal root ganglion (DRG) from newborn Kunming mice using a method named epineurium-pulling for DRG collection (EPDC) and cultured primary neurons in vitro. A dual-colour recombinant PRV BAC mRuby-VP16 was constructed and 0.5 multiplicity of infection (MOI) was found as an appropriate dose in the presence of aciclovir to establish latency. Reactivation was induced using UV-inactivated herpesviruses or a series of chemical inhibitors. Interestingly, we found that not only UV-PRV, but also UV-HSV-1 and UV-BHoV-5 were able to induce rapid PRV reactivation. The efficiency of reactivation for LY294002, forskolin, etoposide, dexamethasone, and acetylcholine was found to be dependent on their concentration. In conclusion, we developed a valuable model of PRV latency and reactivation, which provides a basis for future mechanism research.

RESUMO

P2Y receptors are G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) for extracellular nucleotides. The P2Y2 receptor subtype is expressed in a variety of cell types and plays an important role in physiological and pathophysiological processes such as inflammatory responses and neuropathic pain. Based on this, the P2Y2 has been identified as an important drug target. The specificity of current P2Y2 receptor modulators is relatively poor, and currently, specific and efficient P2Y2 receptor modulators and efficient screening strategies are lacking. In this study, a cell model based on calcium-activated chloride channels (CaCCs) was established that can detect changes in intracellular calcium concentrations and can be used to high-throughput screen for P2Y2 receptor-specific regulators. This screening strategy is suitable for screening of most G-protein-coupled receptor regulators that mediate increases in intracellular calcium signals. The cell model consists of three components that include the endogenously expressed P2Y2 receptor protein, the exogenously expressed calcium-activated chloride channel Anoctamin-1 (Ano1), and a yellow fluorescent protein mutant expressed within the cell that is highly sensitive to iodine ions. This model will allow for high-throughput screening of GPCR regulators that mediate increased intracellular calcium signaling using the calcium-activated transport of iodide ions by Ano1. We verified the ability of the model to detect intracellular calcium ion concentration using fluorescence quenching kinetic experiments by applying existing P2Y2 agonists and inhibitors to validate the screening function of the model, and we also evaluated the performance of the model in the context of high-throughput screening studies. The experimental results revealed that the model could sensitively detect intracellular calcium ion concentration changes and that the model was accurate in regard to detecting P2Y2 modulators. The resultant value of the Z-factor was 0.69, thus indicating that the model possesses good sensitivity and specificity.

RESUMO

A conventional millimeter-wave stepped frequency continuous wave (SFCW) synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging system generally utilizes IQ modulation technique to acquire the amplitude and phase of the waves scattered from a target object. Due to measure both in-phase signal and quadrature signal, the transceiver of the conventional system is complicate and costly, and the IQ imbalance problem makes the system difficult to calibrate. To reduce hardware complexity and enhance efficiency-cost ratio, a novel SFCW SAR imaging system only measuring in-phase signal is proposed and demonstrated. For lack of quadrature signal measurement, an algorithm based on Fourier transform is proposed to estimate the amplitude and phase. The ultimate images are obtained through an image-reconstruction algorithm, which uses the estimated amplitude and phase as input parameters. The proposed system is verified by both simulation and experiment, where the frequencies are set from 24GHz to 30GHz. The imaging results with high resolution and low noise are demonstrated. Compared to the conventional system, the image quality of the proposed system is almost identical, but the transceiver of the proposed system is greatly simplified.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is involved in regulating cell apoptosis and proliferation. However, The effects and mechanism of H2S on the apoptosis of mammary epithelial cells that suffer from an inflammatory response remain unknown. RESULTS: An inflammatory cell model was used to explore whether exogenous H2S regulates lipopolysaccharides (LPS)-induced cell proliferation and apoptosis. We found that H2S affected cell viability, the inflammatory response and apoptosis in LPS-treated cells in a concentration-dependent manner. Moreover, exogenous H2S rescued LPS-induced cystathionine γ-lyase (CSE) inhibition and cystathionine ß-synthase (CBS) synthesis. Interestingly, in cells undergoing inflammation-induced apoptosis, H2S activated the PI3K/Akt and NFκB signal pathways both tested concentrations. Akt appeared to be a key crosstalk molecule that played a "bridge" role. CONCLUSIONS: H2S regulates LPS-induced inflammation and apoptosis by activating the PI3K/Akt/NFκB signaling pathway. Hence, NaHS may be clinically useful for preventing or treating mastitis.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Periplaneta americana is one of the ancient insect groups with the strongest vitality. Periplaneta americana extract (PAE) has been explored as an alternative remedy for many diseases. Although much progress has been made in the study about PAE, the role of the drug in renal disease is rarely reported, especially in renal fibrosis. This study was designed to evaluate the renoprotective effect of PAE treatment to renal fibrosis. METHOD: An in vivo, unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) mouse model was built. Then the mice were treated with PAE (100 mg/kg body weight) once daily by oral gavage, again starting on the day of UUO and continued for 1 week. At the end of 1 week, the mice were sacrificed; kidney samples were collected for further analysis. In vitro, Boston University mouse proximal tubular cells were plated in 35-mm dishes at a density of 0.3 * 106 cells/dish. Then the cells were treated with 5-ng/mL TGF-ß1 in serum-free DMEM medium for an indicated length of time. The experimental groups were pretreated with the indicated concentrations of PAE (0.3125 mg/mL). The cells were further cultured for 24 h, and then cells were monitored morphologically or collected for biochemical analyses. RESULTS: Both in vivo and vitro PAE inhibits the expression of FN and alpha-smooth muscle actin and suppresses renal fibrosis. Importantly, PAE protects against renal fibrosis by inhibiting Janus tyrosine kinase 2 (JAK)/signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT) tyrosine phosphorylation. CONCLUSION: PAE attenuates renal fibrosis through the suppression of the JAK2/STAT3 pathway.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Transforming growth factor ß 1 (TGFß1) plays a critical role in the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of renal tubular epithelial cells (TECs) during renal injury, a major cause of acute renal failure, renal fibrosis and obstructive nephropathy. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms remain ill-defined. Here, we addressed this question. METHODS: Expression of TGFß1, Snail, and phosphorylated Stat3 was examined by immunohistochemistry in the kidney after induction of unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) in mice. In vitro, primary TECs were purified by flow cytometry, and then challenged with TGFß1 with/without presence of specific inhibitors for phosphorylation of SMAD3 or Stat3. Protein levels were determined by Western blotting. RESULTS: We detected significant increases in Snail and phosphorylated Stat3, an activated form for Stat3, in the kidney after induction of UUO in mice. In vitro, TGFß1-challenged primary TECs upregulated Snail, in a SMAD3/Stat3 dependent manner. CONCLUSION: Our study sheds light on the mechanism underlying the EMT of TECs after renal injury, and suggests Stat3 signaling as a promising innovative therapeutic target for prevention of renal fibrosis.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To investigate the effect of miR-663 on the proliferation of prostate cancer (PCa) cells, and the correlations of miR-663 with pathological grade and clinical stage. METHODS: PC-3 and DU-145 PCa cell lines were transfected by artificially synthesized miR-663 and its antisense plasmid, and cell proliferation was assessed using 5-ethynyl-2'-deoxyuridine and methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium assays. Real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was applied to assess the expression of miR-663 in tissue samples collected from 46 patients who were diagnosed with PCa but did not receive any treatment. Another 20 healthy subjects served as controls. According to morphologic and clinical data of tumor tissues in hematoxylin & eosin stained sections, we investigated the correlations of miR-663 with the pathological grade and clinical stage of PCa. METHODS: miR-663 transfection significantly increased the proliferation of PC-3 and DU-145 cells, while transfection of the miR-663 antisense plasmid inhibited the proliferation of PC-3 and DU-145 cells. This suggested that miR-663 can promote the metastasis of PCa. Through detection of the tissue expression of miR-663, the highest and lowest expression of miR-663 were found in the PCa group and healthy group, respectively. Therefore, increased expression of miR-663 in PCa patients was associated with the grade of malignancy . The expression of miR-663 was positively correlated with pathological stage (p<0.05; r=0.7404), and with the clinical stage (p<0.05;r=0.8610), suggesting that miR-663 is closely correlated with the pathological grade and clinical stage of PCa. RESULTS: PDGFRα and PDGFRß were frequently expressed on malignant PCs. We found that increased PDGFRß expression was strongly associated with advanced disease and adverse prognosis. The expression of PDGFRα and MDV were not correlated with specific features. CONCLUSION: miR-663 can significantly increase the proliferation of PCa cells, and its expression is closely correlated with the pathological grade and clinical stage of PCa. Thus, miR-663 is expected to serve as a key predictor of disease stage progression.

RESUMO

The loss of bone integrity can significantly compromise the aesthetics and mobility of patients and can be treated using orthopaedic implants. Over the past decades; various orthopaedic implants; such as allografts; xenografts and synthetic materials; have been developed and widely used in clinical practice. However; most of these materials lack intrinsic osteoinductivity and thus cannot induce bone formation. Consequently; osteoinductive functionalisation of orthopaedic implants is needed to promote local osteogenesis and implant osteointegration. For this purpose; bone morphogenetic protein (BMP)-functionalised coatings have proven to be a simple and effective strategy. In this review; we summarise the current knowledge and recent advances regarding BMP-functionalised coatings for orthopaedic implants.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Esophageal cancer is a prevalent malignant tumor of the upper gastrointestinal tract. The aim of this study was to examine the impact of surgical adherence on the prognosis of patients with locally advanced lower esophageal cancer and to analyze the factors that affect surgical adherence. METHODS: Patients diagnosed with locally advanced (IIA-IVA) lower esophageal cancer between 2004 and 2015 were screened from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. We utilized multifactorial logistic regression to analyze the correlates affecting surgical adherence. Furthermore, we employed Kaplan-Meier curves and Cox regression to determine the impact of surgical adherence on cancer-specific survival (CSS) and overall survival (OS). RESULTS: Of the 4922 patients screened, 2372 individuals were advised to undergo surgery, out of which 2025 ultimately underwent the procedure while the remaining 347 refused. Lower surgical adherence was associated with older age, unmarried, SEER classification of "distant," and squamous cell carcinoma. Adherence to surgery proved to be an independent factor affecting OS and CSS. The Cox regression analysis showed that patients who refused surgery had lower OS (OR: 1.657; 95% CI: 1.429∼1.927; P < .001) and CSS (OR: 1.487; 95% CI: 1.309∼1.690; P < .001) than those who underwent surgery. Kaplan-Meier curves showed that patients who underwent surgical treatment had a better prognosis. DISCUSSION: Good surgical adherence can improve the prognosis of patients with locally advanced (IIA-IVA) lower esophageal cancer, while poor surgical adherence is associated with older age, unmarried, SEER classification of "distant," and squamous cell carcinoma.

RESUMO

Noble metal nanomaterials with a localized surface plasmon resonance effect exhibit outstanding advantages in areas such as photothermal therapy and photocatalysis. As a unique plasmonic metal nanostructure, gold nanobipyramids have been attracting much interest due to their strong specific local electric field intensity, large optical cross sections, and high refractive index sensitivity. In this study, we propose a novel three-component hetero-nanostructure composed of rough gold nanobipyramids (R-Au NBPs), Pt, and CdS. Initially, purified gold nanobipyramids are regrown to form R-Au NBPs that have a certain degree of roughness. These R-Au NBP substrates with a rough surface provide more hotspots and strengthen the intensity of localized electric fields. Subsequently, Pt and CdS nanoparticles are selectively deposited onto the surface of R-Au NBPs. Pt nanoparticles can provide more active sites. Each component of this hetero-nanostructure directly contacts others, creating multiple electron transfer channels. This novel design allows for tunable localized plasmon resonance wavelengths ranging from the visible to near-infrared regions. These factors contribute to the final superior photothermal conversion performance of the R-Au/Pt-CdS nanohybrids. Under the irradiation of near-infrared light (1064 nm), the photothermal conversion efficiency of R-Au/Pt-CdS reached 38.88%, which is 4.49, 1.5, and 1.22 times higher than that of Au NBPs, R-Au NBPs, and R-Au NBPs/Pt, respectively.

RESUMO

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a serious traumatic disease of the central nervous system and leads to incomplete or complete loss of the body's autonomous motor and sensory functions, seriously endangering human health. Recently, exosomes have been proposed as important substances in cell-to-cell interactions. Mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)-derived exosomes exert good therapeutic effects and play a crucial role in neurological damage repair. However, the detailed mechanisms underlying their effects remain unknown. Herein, we found that compared to SCI rats, those subjected to umbilical cord MSC (UC-MSC)-derived exosomes injection showed an improved motor ability. Nevertheless, the transcriptome of BV2 microglia in different treatment groups indicated that the action pathway of exosomes might be the NF-κB/MAPK pathway. Additionally, exosomes from UC-MSCs could inhibit P38, JNK, ERK, and P65 phosphorylation in BV2 microglia and SCI rat tissues. Moreover, exosomes could inhibit apoptosis and inflammatory reaction and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production of BV2 microglia in vitro and in vivo. In conclusion, UC-MSCs-derived exosomes might protect SCI in rats by inhibiting inflammatory response via the NF-κB/MAPK signaling pathway, representing novel treatment targets or approaches for SCI.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in cancer patients has attracted increasing attention, which may be associated with self-rated health (SRH), anxiety, and depression. However, limited studies have focused on the mediating role of anxiety and depression in the relationship between SRH and HRQOL among cancer patients. Therefore, this study aims to explore the serial multiple mediating effects of anxiety and depression between SRH and HRQOL in cancer patients. METHODS: This cross-sectional study investigated a total of 565 hospitalized cancer patients in Anhui province in China from November 2020 to October 2021. SRH was assessed using a single-item measure, anxiety and depression were assessed using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and HRQOL was assessed using the EuroQol-5 Dimension (EQ-5D, three-level version). Socio-demographic and clinical characteristics were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The relationships between SRH, anxiety, depression, and HRQOL were evaluated by Pearson correlation analysis. The serial multiple mediation of anxiety and depression was assessed by SPSS PROCESS macro. RESULTS: SRH, anxiety, depression and HRQOL were significantly correlated(P < 0.001). In comparison to the fair SRH, the good SRH exhibited a significantly positive direct effect (Effect = 0.2366, Bootstrap 95%CI: 0.0642 ~ 0.4090) and total effect on HRQOL (Effect = 0.4761, Bootstrap 95%CI: 0.2975 ~ 0.6546). Conversely, the poor SRH demonstrated a significantly negative total effect on HRQOL (Effect= -0.4321, Bootstrap 95%CI: -0.7544~ -0.1099). When considering the fair SRH as the reference group, the poor SRH displayed a negative indirect effect on HRQOL through the single mediation of anxiety (Effect= -0.1058, Bootstrap 95%CI: -0.2217~ -0.0107) and the serial mediation of anxiety and depression (Effect= -0.0528, Bootstrap 95%CI: -0.1233~ -0.0035). Conversely, the good SRH had a positive indirect impact on HRQOL through the single mediation of anxiety (Effect = 0.1153, Bootstrap 95%CI: 0.0583 ~ 0.1900) and depression (Effect = 0.0667, Bootstrap 95%CI: 0.0206 ~ 0.1234), as well as the serial mediation of anxiety and depression (Effect = 0.0575, Bootstrap 95%CI: 0.0192 ~ 0.1030). CONCLUSION: SRH can improve HRQOL through the decrease of anxiety and depression in cancer patients. Focusing on SRH would be beneficial for their mental health and HRQOL in cancer patients.

RESUMO

The restricted energy density in dielectric ceramic capacitors is challenging for their integration with advanced electronic systems. Numerous strategies have been proposed to boost the energy density at different scales or combine those multiscale effects. Herein, guided by all-scale synergistic design, we fabricated Sr0.7Bi0.2TiO3 ceramics doped with (Bi0.5Na0.5)(Zr0.5Ti0.5)O3 by sintering the nanopowders by solution combustion synthesis, which demonstrate exceptional energy storage performance (ESP). Notably, an ultrahigh recoverable energy density of 11.33 J cm-3, accompanied by an impressive energy efficiency of 89.30%, was achieved at an extremely high critical electric field of 961 kV cm-1. These primary energy storage parameters outperform those of previously reported ceramic capacitors based on SrTiO3. Additionally, an excellent comprehensive performance is also realized, including a substantial power density of 156.21 MW cm-3 (at 300 kV cm-1), an extraordinarily short discharge time of 97 ns, a high Vickers hardness rating of approximately 8.23 GPa, and outstanding thermal and frequency stability. This enhancement can be attributed to the synergistic effect at all scales from atomic substitution, polar nano regions, submicrometer grain, and sample thickness. Consequently, this panoscopic approach has effectively demonstrated the potential to enhance the ESP of dielectric ceramics.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Evidence has demonstrated that Chinese medicine formula Xuefu Zhuyu decoction can markedly promote the formation of new hair in patients and mice with alopecia areata (AA). Amygdalin is one of the active components of Xuefu Zhuyu decoction, but its therapeutic effects and the underlying mechanisms on AA remains largely unrevealed. PURPOSE: Therefore, this study aims to investigate the therapeutic effects and to probe its molecular mechanisms of inflammation and immune regulation on AA model of C3H/HeJ mice. STUDY DESIGN: The C3H/HeJ female mice were divided into control, AA, rusolitinib (60 mg/kg), and amygdalin groups (60, 90, and 120 mg/kg, 0.2 ml/10 g, i.g.). METHODS: The optical microscope was used to observe the feature of the local skin, and the number of lanugo and terminal hair. H&E staining was performed to determine the degree of pathological damage to the skin. ELISA was performed to detect levels of interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interferon-γ (IFN-γ) in mice serum. Flow cytometry was carried out to analyze the CD4+CD25+FOXP3+, CD4+ and CD8+ of skin tissue. And the levels of CD4+ and CD8+, p-JAK/JAK2, p-STAT3/STAT, and SOCS3 were detected by immunohistochemistry. Western blot and qRT-PCR were employed to examine the expression levels of IL-6, TNF-α, IFN-γ, JAK2, p-JAK, STAT, p-STAT3 and SOCS3 proteins and genes in skin tissues. RESULTS: Compared with AA group, amygdalin immensely increased the number of vellus hairs and decreased the number of terminal hairs determined by skin microscopy and H&E staining. ELISA, Western blot and qRT-PCR data showed that the levels of IL-6, TNF-α and IFN-γ in serum and skin tissues of AA mice were significantly increased, while amygdalin administration dramatically restrained the contents of the three pro-inflammatory factors. Flow cytometry and immunohistochemistry hinted that amygdalin observably enhanced the number of CD4+CD25+FOXP3+ and CD4+ cells, while inhibited the number of CD8+ positive cells in mice with AA. Moreover, amygdalin signally reduced JAK2/STAT3 pathway-related protein and gene levels in AA mice. CONCLUSION: Amygdalin could inhibit inflammatory response and improve immune function in the treatment of AA. The underlying molecular mechanism may be related to inhibition of JAK2/STAT3 pathway.

RESUMO

A new, stable and scalable reagent based on a sulfoxide skeleton for direct deuteriodifluoromethylthiolation has been developed. The reagent displays excellent reactivities toward Tf2O promoted C-H deuteriodifluoromethylthiolation of electron-rich arenes, indoles, alkenes, and intramolecular lactonization of 2-alkynylbenzoates. Moreover, high deuteration rates and good to excellent yields were achieved under metal-free reaction conditions. As a result, a wide range of deuteriodifluoromethylthilolated compounds were prepared, enabling further applications in drug discovery.

RESUMO

Previously, several studies have shown that, for a set of structurally related nitrile compounds, there could be a linear relationship between the total charge on the nitrile group (qCN) and its stretching frequency (νCN). However, it is unclear whether the corresponding frequency and charge properties of structurally different nitrile compounds can be described by a single linear νCN-qCN relationship. Herein, we compute the qCN magnitudes of a large number of nitrile-containing molecules whose νCN values cover a spectral range of ca. 200 cm-1 and are measured under different experimental conditions. Our results reveal that νCN indeed exhibits a linear dependence on qCN, with a slope of 637 ± 30 cm-1/charge. Because the nitrile moiety is a commonly used building block in electronic donor-acceptor (D-A) molecular systems, we believe that this linear relationship will find utility in a wide range of applications where such D-A constructs are used, such as in organic photovoltaic assemblies. In addition, we apply this linear relationship to characterize the degree of charge transfer upon photoexcitation of two indole derivatives, 5-cyanoindole and 6-cyanoindole, and are able to show that in both cases, the fluorescence emission arises from a charge-transfer or La state.

RESUMO

For the purpose of searching for new biological fluorophore, we assess the photophysical properties of two indole derivatives, 4-cyano-7-azaindole (4CN7AI) and 1-methyl-4-cyano-7-azaindole (1M4CN7AI), in a series of solvents. We find that (1) the absorption spectra of both derivatives are insensitive to solvents and are red-shifted from that of indole, having a maximum absorption wavelength of ca. 318 nm and a broad profile that extends beyond 370 nm; (2) both derivatives emit in the blue to green spectral range with a large Stokes shift, for example, in H2O, the maximum emission wavelength of 4CN7AI (1M4CN7AI) is at ca. 455 nm (470 nm); (3) 4CN7AI has a higher fluorescence quantum yield (QY) and a longer fluorescence lifetime (τF) in aprotic solvents than in protic solvents, for example, QY (τF) = 0.72 ± 0.04 (7.6 ± 0.8 ns) in tetrahydrofuran and QY (τF) = 0.29 ± 0.03 (6.2 ± 0.6 ns) in H2O; (4) in all of the solvents used except H2O, the fluorescence QY (τF) of 1M4CN7AI is equal to or higher (longer) than 0.69 ± 0.03 (11.2 ± 0.7 ns). Taken together, these results suggest that the corresponding non-natural amino acids, 4-cyano-7-azatryptophan and 1-methyl-4-cyano-7-azatryptophan, could be useful as biological fluorophores.

RESUMO

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a devastating trauma of the central nervous system, with high levels of morbidity, disability, and mortality. To explore the underlying mechanism of SCI, we analyzed the proteome and phosphoproteome of rats at one week after SCI. We identified 465 up-regulated and 129 down-regulated differentially expressed proteins (DEPs), as well as 184 up-regulated and 40 down-regulated differentially expressed phosphoproteins (DEPPs). Using Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes enrichment analysis, we identified the biological characteristics of these proteins from the perspectives of cell component, biological process, and molecular function. We also found a lot of enriched functional pathways such as GABAergic synapse pathway, ErbB signaling pathway, tight junction, adherens junction. The integrated analysis of proteomics and phosphoproteomics yielded 22 differently expressed co-identified proteins of DEPs and DEPPs, which revealed strongly correlative patterns. These findings may help clarify the potential mechanisms of trauma and repair in SCI and may guide the development of novel treatments.

RESUMO

BaTiO3/CeO2 nanoparticles with heterogeneous structure were successfully synthesized via a gel-assisted hydrothermal method. The molar ratio of Ti/Ce was set as 1 : 0, 0.925 : 0.075, 0.9 : 0.1; 0.875 : 0.125, and 0.85 : 0.15 in the dried gels. Affected by the values of Ti/Ce, the particle sizes of hydrothermal products decreased obviously, and the surface of nanoparticles became rough and even had small protrusions. XRD, SEM, HRTEM, XPS, DRS, ESR, and PFM were used to characterize the nanoparticle textures. We speculated that the main body and surface of nanoparticles were BaTiO3 and CeO2 protrusions, respectively. The catalytic performance of BaTiO3/CeO2 nanoparticles was characterized by their abilities to degrade RhB in water under different external conditions (light irradiation, ultrasonic oscillation, or both). In all test groups, BaTiO3/CeO2 nanoparticles with a Ti/Ce molar ratio of 0.875 : 0.125 in the initial dried gel exhibited the strongest catalytic ability when light irradiation and ultrasonication were applied simultaneously owing to the appropriate amount of Ce3+ and oxygen vacancies.

RESUMO

Retinal surgery is widely considered to be a complicated and challenging task even for specialists. Image-guided robot-assisted intervention is among the novel and promising solutions that may enhance human capabilities therein. In this paper, we demonstrate the possibility of using spotlights for 5D guidance of a microsurgical instrument. The theoretical basis of the localization for the instrument based on the projection of a single spotlight is analyzed to deduce the position and orientation of the spotlight source. The usage of multiple spotlights is also proposed to check the possibility of further improvements for the performance boundaries. The proposed method is verified within a high-fidelity simulation environment using the 3D creation suite Blender. Experimental results show that the average positioning error is 0.029 mm using a single spotlight and 0.025 mm with three spotlights, respectively, while the rotational errors are 0.124 and 0.101, which shows the application to be promising in instrument localization for retinal surgery.
