BACKGROUND: Adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) are recognized for their potential immunomodulatory properties. In the immune system, tolerogenic dendritic cells (DCs), characterized by an immature phenotype, play a crucial role in inducing regulatory T cells (Tregs) and promoting immune tolerance. Notch1 signaling has been identified as a key regulator in the development and function of DCs. However, the precise involvement of Notch1 pathway in ASC-mediated modulation of tolerogenic DCs and its impact on immune modulation remain to be fully elucidated. This study aims to investigate the interplay between ASCs and DCs, focusing the role of Notch1 signaling and downstream pathways in ASC-modulated tolerogenic DCs. METHODS: Rat bone marrow-derived myeloid DCs were directly co-cultured with ASCs to generate ASC-treated DCs (ASC-DCs). Notch signaling was inhibited using DAPT, while NFκB pathways were inhibited by NEMO binding domain peptide and si-NIK. Flow cytometry assessed DC phenotypes. Real-time quantitative PCR, Western blotting and immunofluorescence determined the expression of Notch1, Jagged1 and the p52/RelB complex in ASC- DCs. RESULTS: Notch1 and Jagged1 were highly expressed on both DCs and ASCs. ASC-DCs displayed significantly reduced levels of CD80, CD86 and MHC II compared to mature DCs. Inhibiting the Notch pathway with DAPT reversed the dedifferentiation effects. The percentage of induced CD25+/FOXP3+/CD4+ Tregs decreased when ASC-DCs were treated with DAPT (inhibition of the Notch pathway) and si-NIK (inhibition of the non-canonical NFκB pathway). CONCLUSIONS: ASCs induce DC tolerogenicity by inhibiting maturation and promoting downstream Treg generation, involving the Notch and NFκB pathways. ASC-induced tolerogenic DCs can be a potential immunomodulatory tool for clinical application.

BACKGROUND: Frailty is common in older patients with cancer; however, its clinical impact on the survival outcomes has seldom been examined in these patients. This study aimed to investigate the association of frailty with the survival outcomes and surgical complications in older patients with cancer after elective abdominal surgery in Taiwan. METHODS: We prospectively enrolled 345 consecutive patients aged ≥65 years with newly diagnosed cancer who underwent elective abdominal surgery between 2016 and 2018. They were allocated into the fit, pre-frail, and frail groups according to comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) findings. RESULTS: The fit, pre-frail, and frail groups comprised 62 (18.0%), 181 (52.5%), and 102 (29.5%) patients, respectively. After a median follow-up of 48 (interquartile range, 40-53) months, the mortality rates were 12.9%, 31.5%, and 43.1%, respectively. The adjusted hazard ratio was 1.57 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.73-3.39; p = 0.25) and 2.87 (95% CI, 1.10-5.35; p = 0.028) when the pre-frail and frail groups were compared with the fit group, respectively. The frail group had a significantly increased risk for a prolonged hospital stay (adjusted odds ratio, 2.22; 95% CI, 1.05-4.69; p = 0.022) compared with the fit group. CONCLUSION: Pretreatment frailty was significantly associated with worse survival outcomes and more surgical complications, with prolonged hospital stay, in the older patients with cancer after elective abdominal surgery. Preoperative frailty assessment can assist physicians in identifying patients at a high risk for surgical complications and predicting the survival outcomes of older patients with cancer.

Flexible biochips that enable sensitive detection and simultaneous quantification of biomarkers are of great importance in the field of point-of-care testing. Recently, surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS)-based flexible biochips have attracted a great deal of research attention for disease detection due to their rapid, sensitive, and noninvasive sensing abilities. Phenomenal progress in the synthesis of structure-controlled plasmonic nanomaterials has made SERS a powerful sensing platform for disease diagnosis and trace detection. Here, we demonstrate flexible plasmonic biochips for the SERS-based detection of uric acid (UA). Flexible strips exhibited excellent sensing performance with a detection limit of around 10 µM of UA, which is lower than the average level of UA in tears. This rapid and sensitive detection method enables the noninvasive diagnosis of gouty arthritis.

BACKGROUND: Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) can provide detailed coronary anatomic parameters. The purpose of our study was to evaluate the parameters measured by IVUS for the prediction of intermediate coronary lesions function by referencing quantitative fraction ratio (QFR) ≤ 0.80 (vs. > 0.80). METHODS: Eighty four cases with 92 intermediate coronary lesions in vessels with a diameter ≥ 2.50 mm were enrolled. Paired assessment of IVUS and cQFR was available, and vessels with cQFR ≤ 0.8 were considered the positive reference standard. Logistic regression was used to select model variables by a maximum partial likelihood estimation test and receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analysis to evaluate the diagnostic value of different indices. RESULTS: Plaque burden (PB) and lesion length (LL) of IVUS were independent risk factors for the function of coronary lesions. The predictive probability P was derived from the combined PB and LL model. The area under the curve (AUC) of PB, (minimum lumen area) MLA, and LL and the predicted probability P are 0.789,0.732,0731, and 0.863, respectively (P < 0.01). The AUC of the predicted probability P was the biggest among them; the prediction accuracy of cQFR ≤ 0.8 was 84.8%, and the sensitivity of the diagnostic model was 0.826, specificity was 0. 725, and P < 0.01. CONCLUSION: PB and LL of IVUS were independent risk factors influencing the function of intermediate coronary lesions. The model combining the PB and LL may predict coronary artery function better than any other single parameter.

The delayed healing of chronic wounds, such as diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs), is a clinical problem. Few dressings can promote wound healing by satisfying the demands of chronic wound exudate management and tissue granulation. Therefore, the aim of this study was to prepare a high-absorption polyurethane (PU) foam dressing modified by polyethylene glycol (PEG) and triethoxysilane (APTES) to promote wound healing. PEG-modified (PUE) and PEG/APTES-modified (PUESi) dressings were prepared by self-foaming reactions. Gauze and PolyMem were used as controls. Next, Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy, thermomechanical analyses, scanning electron microscopy and tensile strength, water absorption, anti-protein absorption, surface dryness and biocompatibility tests were performed for in vitro characterization. Wound healing effects were further investigated in nondiabetic (non-DM) and diabetes mellitus (DM) rat models. The PUE and PUESi groups exhibited better physicochemical properties than the gauze and PolyMem groups. Moreover, PUESi dressing showed better anti-adhesion properties and absorption capacity with deformation. Furthermore, the PUESi dressing shortened the inflammatory phase and enhanced collagen deposition in both the non-DM and DM animal models. To conclude, the PUESi dressing not only was fabricated with a simple and effective strategy but also enhanced wound healing via micronegative-pressure generation by its high absorption compacity with deformation.

The life cycle of leaves, from sprout to senescence, is the phenomenon of regular changes such as budding, branching, leaf spreading, flowering, fruiting, leaf fall, and dormancy due to seasonal climate changes. It is the effect of temperature and moisture in the life cycle on physiological changes, so the detection of newly grown leaves (NGL) is helpful for the estimation of tree growth and even climate change. This study focused on the detection of NGL based on deep learning convolutional neural network (CNN) models with sparse enhancement (SE). As the NGL areas found in forest images have similar sparse characteristics, we used a sparse image to enhance the signal of the NGL. The difference between the NGL and the background could be further improved. We then proposed hybrid CNN models that combined U-net and SegNet features to perform image segmentation. As the NGL in the image were relatively small and tiny targets, in terms of data characteristics, they also belonged to the problem of imbalanced data. Therefore, this paper further proposed 3-Layer SegNet, 3-Layer U-SegNet, 2-Layer U-SegNet, and 2-Layer Conv-U-SegNet architectures to reduce the pooling degree of traditional semantic segmentation models, and used a loss function to increase the weight of the NGL. According to the experimental results, our proposed algorithms were indeed helpful for the image segmentation of NGL and could achieve better kappa results by 0.743.

BACKGROUND: Determining survival outcome in advanced pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (aPDAC) patients receiving second-line (L2) chemotherapy is important for clinical decision-making. The Besançon group from France recently proposed a prognostic nomogram to predict overall survival (OS) for aPDAC patients receiving L2 chemotherapy. The present study aimed to externally validate the performance of the Besançon nomogram in predicting OS in an Asian cohort. METHODS: We retrospectively enrolled 349 patients who received L2 chemotherapy for aPDAC between 2010 and 2016â¯at four institutes in Taiwan. The performance of the Besançon model in this cohort was evaluated with C-index and calibration plots. RESULTS: The median OS time in our patient cohort was 4.5 months (95% confidence interval [CI], 3.0-5.0). Using the Besançon nomogram-predicted risk groups, the median OS times in the low, intermediate, and high-risk groups were 6.7 (95% CI, 5.3-8.2), 3.2 (95% CI, 2.4-3.9), and 1.7 months (95% CI, 0.6-2.7), respectively. The C-index of the predicted six- and 12-month survival probabilities for the Besançon nomogram were 0.766 (95% CI, 0.715-0.816) and 0.698 (95% CI, 0.641-0.754), respectively. The calibration plot showed that the observed six-month survival probability was close to the diagonal line, while that for 12-month survival deviated below the diagonal line compared to the survival probability predicted by the Besançon nomogram. CONCLUSIONS: Although the Besançon nomogram tended to over-estimate the 12-month survival probability, our study demonstrated that the nomogram is a reliable and readily applicable model to estimate survival outcomes of aPDAC patients receiving L2 chemotherapy.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Given that a wide variation in tumor response rates and survival times suggests heterogeneity among the patients with advanced pancreatic cancer (APC) who underwent second-line (L2) chemotherapy, it is a challenge in clinical practice to identify patients who will receive the most benefit from L2 treatment. METHODS: We selected 183 APC patients who received L2 palliative chemotherapy between 2010 and 2016 from a medical center as the development cohort. A Cox proportional hazard model was used to identify the prognostic factors and construct the nomogram. An independent cohort of 166 patients from three other hospitals was selected for external validation. RESULTS: The nomogram was based on eight independent prognostic factors from the multivariate Cox model: sex, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status, reason for first-line treatment discontinuation, duration of first-line treatment, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, tumor stage, body mass index, and serum carbohydrate antigen 19-9 levels at the beginning of L2 treatment. The model exhibited good discrimination ability, with a C-index of 0.733 (95% confidence interval, 0.681-0.785) and 0.724 (95% confidence interval, 0.661-0.787) in the development and validation cohorts, respectively. The calibration plots of the development and validation cohorts showed optimal agreement between model prediction and actual observation in predicting survival probability at 6 months, 1 year, and 2 years. CONCLUSIONS: This study developed and externally validated a prognostic model that accurately predicts the survival outcome of APC patients before L2 palliative chemotherapy, which could assist in clinical decision-making, counseling for treatment, and most importantly, prognostic stratification of patients.

BACKGROUND: Submucosal tumors (SMTs) of different etiologies exist from esophagus to rectum. Esophagogastric junction (EGJ) is one of the known difficult locations for tumor resection. Although minimally invasive surgery (MIS) is a well-established approach for gastrointestinal surgery, there is no consensus that MIS for resection of SMTs around EGJ is superior to laparotomy. We tried to clarify the factors that determine the surgeons' choices between these two approaches. METHODS: From January 2002 to June 2016, 909 patients with SMTs underwent resection in our department. Among them, 119 patients (13%) had SMTs around EGJ were enrolled by retrospective review. The clinicopathological features and tumor-related parameters were reviewed and analyzed. RESULTS: The cohort was stratified into three groups according to the extent of gastrectomy and surgical approaches. The three groups are as following: major gastrectomy (n = 13), minor gastrectomy by laparotomy (n = 51), and minor gastrectomy with MIS (n = 55). The average tumor size was significantly larger in the major gastrectomy group than in the two minor gastrectomy groups; however, there was no difference between the two minor gastrectomy groups (5.33 cm, 4.07 cm, and 3.69 cm, respectively). The minor gastrectomy with MIS required least hospital stay and operation duration also. We re-stratify the two minor gastrectomy groups (n = 106) according to the orientation of SMTs around the EGJ into 4 zones. Most of SMTs located on the greater curvature side of the EGJ were resected with MIS (82% versus 18%), whereas SMTs in the other zones were resected more often by laparotomy (59% versus 41%). There was no surgical mortality within the cohort, while minor gastrectomy with MIS yielded least number of leakages among the three groups. CONCLUSIONS: For SMTs around the EGJ, larger tumors (diameter of more than 5 cm) are more likely to be resected with major gastrectomy. To resect SMTs around the EGJ in a wedge-like (minor gastrectomy) fashion, tumors located other than the greater curvature side were more often resected by laparotomy. However, MIS yielded acceptable safety and surgical outcomes compared to conventional laparotomy for SMTs around the EGJ of the same size.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Asprosin is a novel fasting-induced glucogenic and orexigenic protein hormone. The clinical function of asprosin in obesity is currently unknown. This study investigated the association between asprosin abundance and the outcome of bariatric surgery. SUBJECTS/METHODS: Patients with body mass index more than 35 kg/m2 were recruited for the Obesity and Clock for Elegant Aging Registry in 2011-2016. Body weight changes, blood sugar, and asprosin were assessed in 117 patients receiving bariatric surgery and 57 non-obese subjects as normal control. Primary outcomes of excess weight loss percentage at 6 months after bariatric surgery were determined at follow-up. RESULTS: Asprosin levels were significantly higher in obese patients than in non-obese subjects (2360 ± 5094 vs. 307 ± 832 ng/ml, p < 0.0001). Multivariate analyses showed a significant association of asprosin abundance with excess body weight loss percentage at 6 months after surgery (p < 0.0001). After adjusted for age, sex, smoking, HbA1c, cholesterol, and triglyceride, serum asprosin level was the only independent predictor of 6 months excess weight loss percentage after bariatric surgery. Asprosin levels decreased significantly 6 months after bariatric surgery (162.2 ± 169.1 ng/ml). Furthermore, there was no association between asprosin and serum glucose levels in our study. CONCLUSION: This study provides novel evidence that higher asprosin concentrations before bariatric surgery were associated with the weight reduction magnitude at 6 months after surgery. Further studies are warranted to investigate whether asprosin has direct functions to modulate body weight regulation in humans after bariatric surgery.

Biofouling poses one of the most serious challenges to membrane technologies by severely decreasing water flux and driving up operational costs. Here, we introduce a novel anti-biofouling ultrafiltration membrane based on reduced graphene oxide (RGO) and bacterial nanocellulose (BNC), which incoporates GO flakes into BNC in situ during its growth. In contrast to previously reported GO-based membranes for water treatment, the RGO/BNC membrane exhibited excellent aqueous stability under environmentally relevant pH conditions, vigorous mechanical agitation/sonication, and even high pressure. Importantly, due to its excellent photothermal property, under light illumination, the membrane exhibited effective bactericidal activity, obviating the need for any treatment of the feedwater or external energy. The novel design and in situ incorporation of the membranes developed in this study present a proof-of-concept for realizing new, highly efficient, and environmental-friendly anti-biofouling membranes for water purification.

Garlic (Allium sativum L.) has been used extensively as a food ingredient and medicinally, but the effect on asthmatic airway inflammation has not been studied in detail. We accordingly explored the protective effects exerted by various garlic fraction extracts against airway inflammation with Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (Der p)-induced allergic asthma in vivo and in vitro. Garlic extraction was realized using n-hexane, dichloromethane, ethylacetate, n-butanol, and water in sequence to obtain different fraction extracts. Mice were orally administered different fractions (80 mg/kg) daily for four weeks. The histological results showed that the water fraction could ameliorate lung-based goblet cell hyperplasia, inflammatory cell infiltration, and mucus hypersecretion. The water fraction extracts decreased IgE and IgG1, and they decreased inflammatory cells as quantified in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF); however, they increased IgG2a in serum. Moreover, the water fraction extracts increased IFN-γ and IL-12 (both constituting Th1 cytokines) in BALF, but they reduced IL-13, -4, and -5 (all constituting Th2 cytokines), and also inhibited the expression of IL-1ß, IL-6, and TNF-α. The water fraction also inhibited the PI3K/Akt/NF-κB signal pathways in A549 cells. These findings suggest that water fraction extracts of garlic have a clear anti-inflammatory effect on Der p-induced allergic asthma.

The mechanism of hepatoprotective compounds is usually related to its antioxidant or anti-inflammatory effects. Black garlic is produced from garlic by heat treatment and its anti-inflammatory activity has been previously reported. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the hepatoprotective effect of five different extracts of black garlic against carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced acute hepatic injury (AHI). In this study, mice in the control, CCl4, silymarin, and black garlic groups were orally administered distilled water, silymarin, and different fraction extracts of black garlic, respectively, after CCl4 was injected intraperitoneally to induce AHI. The results revealed that the n-butanol layer extract (BA) and water layer extract (WS) demonstrated a hepatoprotective effect by reducing the levels of alanine aminotransferase (AST), alanine transaminase (ALT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and hepatic malondialdehyde (MDA). Furthermore, the BA and WS fractions of black garlic extract increased the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), glutathione reductase (GSH-Rd), tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), and the interleukin-1 (IL-1ß) level in liver. It was concluded that black garlic exhibited significant protective effects on CCl4-induced acute hepatic injury.

Large quantities of highly toxic organic dyes in industrial wastewater is a persistent challenge in wastewater treatment processes. Here, for highly efficient wastewater treatment, a novel membrane based on bacterial nanocellulose (BNC) loaded with graphene oxide (GO) and palladium (Pd) nanoparticles is demonstrated. This Pd/GO/BNC membrane is realized through the in situ incorporation of GO flakes into BNC matrix during its growth followed by the in situ formation of palladium nanoparticles. The Pd/GO/BNC membrane exhibits highly efficient methylene orange (MO) degradation during filtration (up to 99.3% over a wide range of MO concentrations, pH, and multiple cycles of reuse). Multiple contaminants (a cocktail of 4-nitrophenol, methylene blue, and rhodamine 6G) can also be effectively treated by Pd/GO/BNC membrane simultaneously during filtration. Furthermore, the Pd/GO/BNC membrane demonstrates stable flux (33.1 L m-2 h-1 ) under 58 psi over long duration. The novel and robust membrane demonstrated here is highly scalable and holds a great promise for wastewater treatment.

Nanoantennas offer the ultimate spatial control over light by concentrating optical energy well below the diffraction limit, whereas their quality factor (Q) is constrained by large radiative and dissipative losses. Dielectric microcavities, on the other hand, are capable of generating a high Q-factor through an extended photon storage time but have a diffraction-limited optical mode volume. Here we bridge the two worlds, by studying an exemplary hybrid system integrating plasmonic gold nanorods acting as nanoantennas with an on-resonance dielectric photonic crystal (PC) slab acting as a low-loss microcavity and, more importantly, by synergistically combining their advantages to produce a much stronger local field enhancement than that of the separate entities. To achieve this synergy between the two polar opposite types of nanophotonic resonant elements, we show that it is crucial to coordinate both the dissipative loss of the nanoantenna and the Q-factor of the low-loss cavity. In comparison to the antenna-cavity coupling approach using a Fabry-Perot resonator, which has proved successful for resonant amplification of the antenna's local field intensity, we theoretically and experimentally show that coupling to a modest-Q PC guided resonance can produce a greater amplification by at least an order of magnitude. The synergistic nanoantenna-microcavity hybrid strategy opens new opportunities for further enhancing nanoscale light-matter interactions to benefit numerous areas such as nonlinear optics, nanolasers, plasmonic hot carrier technology, and surface-enhanced Raman and infrared absorption spectroscopies.

BACKGROUND: The present study assessed the impact of the retrieval of >25 lymph nodes (LNs) on the survival outcome of patients with advanced gastric cancer after curative-intent gastrectomy. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of 5,386 patients who had undergone curative gastrectomy for gastric cancer from 1994 to 2011 were enrolled. The clinicopathological parameters and overall survival (OS) were analyzed according to the number of LNs examined (≤15, n = 916; 16-25, n = 1,458; and >25, n = 3,012). RESULTS: The percentage of patients with >25 LNs retrieved increased from 1994 to 2011. Patients in the LN >25 group were more likely to have undergone total gastrectomy and to have a larger tumor size, poorer tumor differentiation, and advanced T and N stages. Hospital mortality among the LN ≤15, LN 16-25, and LN >25 groups was 6.1%, 2.7%, and 1.7%, respectively (p < .0001). The LN >25 group consistently exhibited the most favorable OS, in particular, with stage II disease (p = .011) when OS was stratified according to tumor stage. Similarly, the LN >25 group had significantly better OS in all nodal stages (from N1 to N3b). The discrimination power of the lymph node ratio (LNR) for the LN ≤15, LN 16-25, and LN >25 groups was 483, 766, and 1,560, respectively. Multivariate analysis demonstrated that the LNR was the most important prognostic factor in the LN >25 group. CONCLUSION: Retrieving more than 25 lymph nodes during curative-intent gastrectomy substantially improved survival and survival stratification of advanced gastric cancer without compromising patient safety. The present study, one of the largest surgical series worldwide, has shown that the traditionally recognized retrieval of ≥16 LNs during curative-intent gastrectomy might not be adequate in regions in which locally advanced gastric cancers predominate. The presented data show that retrieval of >25 LNs, which more greatly mimics D2 dissection, improves long-term outcomes and survival stratification without compromising patient safety.

The physicochemical properties of abiotic nanostructures determine the structure and function of biological counterparts in biotic-abiotic nanohybrids. A comprehensive understanding of the interfacial interactions and the predictive capability of their structure and function is paramount for virtually all fields of bionanotechnology. In this study, using plasmonic nanostructures as a model abiotic system, we investigate the effect of the surface charge of nanostructures on the biocatalytic reaction kinetics of a bound enzyme. We found that the surface charge of nanostructures profoundly influences the structure, orientation, and activity of the bound enzyme. Furthermore, the interactions of the enzyme with nanoparticles result in stable conjugates that retain their functionality at elevated temperatures, unlike their free counterparts that lose their secondary structure and biocatalytic activity.

Hollow plasmonic nanostructures with built-in and accessible electromagnetic hotspots such as nanorattles, obtained through a galvanic replacement reaction, have received wide attention in chemical and biological sensing and targeted drug delivery. In this study, we investigate the surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) activity of plasmonic nanorattles obtained through different degrees of galvanic replacement of Au@Ag nanocubes. We found that the SERS efficacy of the nanorattles is governed by the plasmon extinction intensity, localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) wavelength of the nanostructures with respect to the excitation source and intensity of the electromagnetic field at the hotspot, with the latter playing a determining role. Finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulations showed excellent agreement with the experimental findings that an optimal degree of galvanic replacement is critical for maximum SERS enhancement. The rational design and synthesis of the plasmonic nanorattles based on these findings can make these nanostructures highly attractive for SERS-based chemical and biological sensing and bioimaging.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is suggested to actively utilize its ebv-microRNAs (miRNAs) to manipulate viral and cellular functions during neoplasia transformation. A systemic profiling of ebv-miRNAs expressed in EBV-associated gastric carcinoma (EBVa GC) helps understand its epigenetic regulation of carcinogenesis. METHODS: A total of 1039 patients with gastric cancer were screened for EBVa GC using EBV-encoded RNAs in situ hybridization. A comprehensive profiling of ebv-miRNAs expressed in EBVa GC was constructed using stem-loop quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Functional assay of specific ebv-miRNA was conducted. Expression of epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) markers among EBVa GC and non-EBVa GC was compared. RESULTS: The prevalence of EBVa GC was 5.0% (52 out of 1039) in our series. The most abundant ebv-miRNAs of EBVa GC were Bart4, followed by Bart11, Bart2, Bart6, Bart9, and Bart18, in the decreasing order. Of them, Bart9 exhibited the same seed sequence as to hsa miR-200a and miR-141. Expression of E-cadherin of EBV-positive SNU-719 was increased after BART9 knockdown. Depleting endogenous Bart9 of SNU-719 induced a surged expression of miR-200a and miR-141, accompanied by decreased proliferative and invasive ability. Expression of mesenchymal markers in EBVa GC was increased compared with those of non-EBVa GC, albeit the two cohorts exhibited a comparable long-term survival. CONCLUSIONS: We constructed a comprehensive profiling of ebv-miRNAs in EBVa GC. BART9 plays an important role during carcinogenesis through EMT. Inherent mesenchymal phenotype of EBVa GC represents a unique virus-induced morphology and microenvironment rather than being able to predict the prognosis.
