RESUMO

Purpose: To report the application of a refined total capsular bag suspension technique for lens subluxation from Cystathionine beta-synthase (CBS) deficiency. Observations: A 15-year-old CBS deficiency male patient with a history of intracranial venous thrombosis presented to our clinic due to bilateral vision loss. The patient was treated with lens aspiration, intraocular lens (IOL) implantation, and total capsular bag suspension in both eyes respectively. During the six months postoperative follow-up, the patient exhibited improved visual acuity and minor refractive error. Conclusions and importance: The refined total capsular bag suspension technique is recommended for CBS deficiency patients with lens subluxation as a safe and effective surgical approach.

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to explore the influence of the interaction between parental myopia and lifestyle on myopia among school-age children. DESIGN: Cross-sectional study. SETTING: This study used data from the Tianjin Child and Adolescent Research of Eye between August and October 2022. PARTICIPANTS: A total of 49 035 participants between 6 and 18 years of age were eligible for this study. PRIMARY AND SECONDARY OUTCOME MEASURES: The primary outcome was the interaction between eye-healthy lifestyle and parental myopia on myopia. Parental myopia and eye-healthy lifestyle were ascertained by a Child and Adolescent Behavior Questionnaire. The lifestyle risk score (LRS) of eye health was calculated based on beta-coefficient in the backward regression model. The interaction between LRS and parental myopia was analysed by multivariate logistic regression. The predictive value of different predicted models was estimated using receiver operating characteristic curves. Multiple linear regression was used to evaluate the associations of lifestyle risk factors and parental myopia with spherical equivalent refraction, which were defined as the secondary outcomes. RESULTS: A total of 31 839 participants aged 6-18 years were included, and the myopia prevalence was 55.46%. Eye-healthy lifestyle and parental myopia were significantly associated with myopia, as was interaction. The predictive value for LRS & parental myopia was 0.714 (95% CI: 0.709 to 0.720), which was higher than LRS (0.693, 95% CI: 0.687 to 0.699) and parental myopia (0.710, 95% CI: 0.704 to 0.716) separately. CONCLUSIONS: High-risk lifestyles of myopia and parental myopia were significantly associated with a higher risk of myopia, and the combination had the strongest effect. For children, lifestyle adjustment should be prioritised in preventing myopia, especially for those with parental myopia.

AIM: To evaluate the role of intravitreal ranubizumab (IVR) in the treatment of familial exudative vitreoretinopathy (FEVR) of stage 2 or greater either as primary or an ajunct to conventional treatments. METHODS: Retrospective, non-controlled clinical study. Thirty patients (37 eyes) diagnosed with FEVR were enrolled. Twenty patients (66.67%) were male and 10 patients (33.33%) were female. Age ranged from 0.4 to 35 years old (median 3y). IVR was used either as primary or as a combined therapy according to the retinal neovasuclar activities. The follow up ranged from 1 to 57mo with mean 16.73±15.73 (median 11)mo. The treatment effect of retinal neovasuclar activites were recorded as well as the ocular and systemic side effects. RESULTS: Among 30 patients (37 eyes), 10 eyes received single IVR, 1 eye received 2 injections. Three eyes were treated with IVR and simutanous laser photocoagulation. Laser indirect ophthalmoscopy (LIO) was applied in 5 eyes 1mo after the primary IVR. Seven eyes were treated surgically following the primary IVR due to persistent retinal neovasuclar activities and retinal traction. IVR was used as combined treatment with vitrectomy in 11 eyes. Retinal neovascular regression was notified 1mo following the primary IVR in all eyes. Neither systemic nor ocular complications were recorded. CONCLUSION: IVR may be an effective modality in the treatment of FEVR either as primary or as an ajunct to the conventional therapies. The long term effect and safty of IVR still need further research.
