RESUMO

Significant decrease in the tone of the rectal mucosa venules was to be seen at the climax of acute Proteus and Klebsiella enterocolitis, as evidenced by examinations with the aid of rheorectograph and an analyzer of intracavitary motor activity, general blood supply to the intestinal segment under study being not compromised. The tone of the rectal mucous membrane arterioles is raised at the climax of acute dysentery caused by a Flexner type of organism in erosive and haemorrhagic proctosigmoiditis. With the clinical recovery being set in, the blood supply to this area fails to return to normal. The excitability of the inner anal sphincter was noted to be on the increase at the climax of acute S. flexneri dysentery, this showing up predominantly in erosive and haemorrhagic proctosigmoiditis, ceasing to reveal itself in the period of reconvalescentia.

RESUMO

In this paper the oil from seeds of Amaranthus cruentus L. (AmO) was shown to be an efficient modulator of the physical chemical properties of artificial lipid and rat hepatocyte plasma membranes. AmO improved the membrane stability, their stress resistance and the adsorption of neurotensin to plasma membranes with the distinct biphasic interactions being observed even after adrenalin stress exposure. The analysis of pro-/antioxidant balance in rat blood revealed a mild prooxidant activity after AmO intake, which was accompanied by accumulation of oxidative destruction products in plasma membranes. This prooxidant action of AmO was corroborated in vitro in an adrenalin autooxidation model. On the other hand, the observed improved resistance to adrenalin stress in AmO supplemented rats was associated with an antioxidant response in blood and plasma membrane studies. The AmO effects can be attributed to the modulation of the metabolic pathways involved into oxygen and free radical homeostasis.

RESUMO

An easy-to-use colorimetric test-system for the efficient detection of creatinine in aqueous samples was developed. The test-system is based on composite molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) membranes with artificial receptor sites capable of creatinine recognition. A thin MIP layer was created on the surface of microfiltration polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes using method of photo-initiated grafting polymerization. The MIP layer was obtained by co-polymerization of a functional monomer (e.g. 2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propanesulfonic acid, itaconic acid or methacrylic acid) with N, N'-methylenebisacrylamide as a cross-linker. The choice of the functional monomer was based on the results of computational modeling. The creatinine-selective composite MIP membranes were used for measuring creatinine in aqueous samples. Creatinine molecules were selectively adsorbed by the MIP membranes and quantified using color reaction with picrates. The intensity of MIP membranes staining was proportional to creatinine concentration in an analyzed sample. The colorimetric test-system based on the composite MIP membranes was characterized with 0.25 mM detection limit and 0.25-2.5mM linear dynamic range. Storage stability of the MIP membranes was estimated as at least 1 year at room temperature. As compared to the traditional methods of creatinine detection the developed test-system is characterized by simplicity of operation, small size and low cost.

RESUMO

This study was aimed to demonstrate the efficacy of interval hypoxic training (IHT) in complex treatment of Helicobacter pylori-associated duodenal peptic ulcer disease (DPUD) by parameters of aerobic metabolism and indexes of heart rate variability (HRV). Eighty patients with H. pylori-associated DPUD were included into the study, mean age 32+/-1.8 yrs, duration of the disease up to 10 years (66.3 %). IHT was modulated using Frolov's hypoxicator (TDI-01) for 30 days after standard eradication therapy. Daily hypoxic sessions consisted of three one-minute sessions, one two-minute, and one three-minute sessions separated by one-minute intervals of room-air breathing. Use of IHT resulted in more efficient elimination of clinical symptoms, histological hallmarks of inflammation and signs of oxidative stress in glandulocytes of the gastric mucosa as determined by 4-hydroxynonenal accumulation. Moderate prooxidant activity of IHT was demonstrated by the increased level of TBARS and oxidatively modified products, normalization of hydroperoxides, middle mass molecules and atherogenic beta-lipoproteins with simultaneous increase in catalase activity and mild decline of SOD activity. Therefore, IHT appeared to be accompanied by higher intensity of redox reactions and enhanced regeneratory processes in cells and tissues. Significant increase in HRV was also noted. Such changes were associated with reduction of inflammation signs and modulation of the autonomic homeostasis in DPUD patients. In general, use of IHT in complex treatment of H. pylori in DPUD patients can be recommended to increase resistance to oxidative stress and to modulate autonomic balance and oxidative homeostasis.
