RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: CKD is associated with a reduction of patients' health-related quality of life. Considering the time spent in dialysis, satisfaction with care is essential for patients QOL. OBJECTIVE: Since the possible association between satisfaction with the dialysis care and QOL has never been studied, in this study, we explore this plausible link. METHODS: One hundred three patients on hemodialysis (HD) and peritoneal dialysis (PD) filled-in patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and patient-reported experience measures (PREMs). QOL was assessed by Kidney Disease Quality of Life-36 and satisfaction by Choices for Healthy Outcomes in Caring for End-Stage Renal Disease (CHOICE) questionnaire. The analysis was conducted on patient-level, considering for single patient sociodemographic characteristics and presence of depression/anxiety. One-way ANOVA was used to compare QOL mean scores for patients who answered "excellent" and for those who answered "other ratings" in CHOICE questionnaire and the Pearson χ2 test to compare the patients' characteristics between these 2 groups of patients. RESULTS: The analysis showed a significant positive association between PREM and PROM scores for 8 out of 23 CHOICE items. Six of them were related to the figure of nephrologist, 1 to dialysis access site, and 1 to the social worker support. Significant association (p < 0.05) were between frequency of seeing nephrologist and physical component plus mental component, accuracy of information from nephrologist and burden of disease, accuracy of instructions from nephrologist and burden of disease, coordination between nephrologist and other physicians plus mental component, attention to cleanliness of access site and mental component, amount of dialysis information from staff and burden of disease, information from staff when choosing between HD or PD and physical component plus burden of disease, and ease of seeing social worker and burden of disease. CONCLUSIONS: The study provides support for the relationship between the care satisfaction and QOL, highlighting the central role of the nephrologist-patient communication in the QOL of dialysis patients.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Health information concerns both individuals' engagement and the way services and professionals provide information to facilitate consumers' health decision making. Citizens' and patients' participation in the management of their own health is related to the availability of tools making health information accessible, thus promoting empowerment and making care more inclusive and fairer. A novel instrument was developed (Evaluation Tool of Health Information for Consumers-ETHIC) for assessing the formal quality of health information materials written in Italian language. This study reports ETHIC's content and face validity. METHODS: A convenience sample of 11 experts and 5 potential users was involved. The former were requested to evaluate relevance and exhaustiveness, the latter both readability and understandability of ETHIC. The Content Validity Index (CVI) was calculated for ETHIC's sections and items; experts and potential users' feedback were analyzed by the authors. RESULTS: All sections and most items were evaluated as relevant. A new item was introduced. Potential users provided the researchers with comments that partly confirmed ETHIC's clarity and understandability. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings strongly support the relevance of ETHIC's sections and items. An updated version of the instrument matching exhaustivity, readability, and understandability criteria was obtained, which will be assessed for further steps of the validation process.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND AIM OF THE WORK: The aim of the current study was to explore under-considered psychosocial needs for lymphoma cancer group. A model of the role of psychosocial factors and Stressful Life Events was operationalized. METHOD: We used Discriminant Analysis to test predictive power of the model. 103 oncological patients (gender: 42.7 % vs 49.3 % of females 55.2 ±15.6 vs 53.7±14.9) were matched with 140healthy control groups in the study. The following instruments were utilized to conduct the study: the Florence Psychiatric Interview, Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale, Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, Beck Depression Inventory I, and Sense of Mastery. RESULTS: The model satisfied the assumption criteria and were significant (Ʌ= .665, χ2= 105.83, p< .001). CONCLUSION: Stressful events, depression and anxiety were adequate markers of the psychological status of lymphoma patients. Our results point out the relevance of taking into account psychosocial factors in hematology.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND AIM OF THE WORK: we present in this paper a complete Italian validation version. We show some psychometric properties of the Italian version of the DEMQOL-PROXY: Structural validity (by use Exploratory Factor Analysis), convergent validity and divergent validity in Italian language Method. We enrolled a sample of 182 caregivers of people with mild to moderate Dementia. In particular, we collected 90 questionnaires of professional caregivers and 92 questionnaires of family caregivers. We used Exploratory Factor Analysis (Varimax rotation), to identify the saturation of items on the relevant factors. The internal consistency of the instrument was evaluated by using the Cronbach Alpha coefficient. Finally, referring to the Validity of convergent and Divergent validity, we used Spearman's correlation coefficient by comparing the various instruments of the study. RESULTS: Our result shows that the variance explained by 4 factors corresponds to almost 51% of the total variance. Factors extracted in our Italian version are: Cognition;Negative and Positive emotion; Daily activity and Membership. CONCLUSION: The Italian version of the DEMQOL-PROXY point out very good psychometric properties: factors extracted are similar to the original version and convergent and divergent validity show good proprieties. We consider this paper as a complete Italian Validation.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND AIM OF THE WORK: Psychosocial needs in cancer patients seem to be underestimated and undertreated. The present research was designed to explore under-considered psychosocial needs (e.g., stressful life events, perceived social support, sense of mastery and depressive/anxious symptoms) of a female cancer group. The aim of the study was to test an assessment psycho-oncological model for female cancer patients. An assessment model of psychosocial needs and Stressful Life Events was operationalized and tests its predictive power. METHODS: We used Discriminant Analysis to test predictive power of the model and of the single variables included in it. 236 oncological patients (mean age 55.50 ± 13.09) were matched with 232 healthy control groups in the study. The following instruments were chosen: the Florence Psychiatric Interview, Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale, Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, Beck Depression Inventory I, and Sense of Mastery. RESULTS: The model satisfied the assumption criteria and was significant (Ʌ= .680, X2 = 109.73, p< .001). CONCLUSIONS: Stressful events, depression and anxiety were adequate markers of the assessment psycho-oncological model proposed for female cancer patients. The present study provides contributions in a clinical perspective: the results support the relevance of considering an assessment psychosocial model to use in female oncology for an accurate estimation of the women's needs. Women affected by female cancer with an history of Stressful Early and Recent life events and high level of anxiety and depression could positively benefit from a psychotherapy treatment.

RESUMO

In this paper, we propose an adaptation of a protocol for a tool's validation. We have utilized this phases-theory to validate in Italian language an instrument to assess Quality of Life for people with moderate or mild dementia. We will explain the example of our Italian validation of DEMQoL-Proxy considering each De Vellis's phase. We will explain our application of De Vellis's model to Italian example described. For the first three phases, we reproduced the original validating study in which authors (Smith et al., 2005) defined what to measure, how generate a set of items and the structure of the scale. Indeed, for the last five phases we explained the adaptation of De Vellis's model to Italian validation. We hope that this model could be effective to validating goals, for researchers and in particular for all professionals who deal with caregivers and patients with moderate and mild dementia. Furthermore, the measurement of the Quality of Life makes the scale widely useful within the various professional specialties and setting. Finally, thanks to the methodological assumptions adopted following the De Vellis's eight-phase model, we can affirm that this first Italian pre-validation of the DEMQoL-Proxy seems to be an excellent forerunner for its effective validation in the Italian context.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND AIM OF THE WORK: The present research explores Concurrent Validity of two depression measures the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and the Depression Subscale of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS- Depression subscale) in specific oncological groups (female cancer and onco-hematological patients). METHOD: A correlational study was designed and took place at Careggi Universitary Hospital in Florence, including 339 oncological patients, in particular 103 (59 Women and 44 men) patients suffering from lymphoma, and 236 patients suffering from female cancer. We estimated, by Pearson's r, Concurrent Validity between BDI and HADS depression's subscale. RESULTS: Correlations failed to reach the 0.55 cut-off in the female cancer group (r=.34, p<.001) but not in the onco-hematological patients (r= 0.56, p<.001). CONCLUSION: The results stressing the need to develop and validate assessing tools that are specifically devoted to different groups of oncological patients. (www.actabiomedica.it).

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND AIM OF THE WORK: The assessment of Quality of Life through validated tools allow to improve level of assistance for people suffering from Dementia. To our Knowledge in Italian language seem to be absent a tool to evaluate mild and moderate dementia, consequently underestimating and underrating needs of this specific target. We show an Italian pilot version of the DEMQOL-PROXY (specific for mild and moderate Dementia) testing some psychometric properties as: back-translation, content validity and face validity in Italian language. METHOD: A back-translation by two bilingual authors was presented. Was enrolled an expert panel to test Content Validity composed by eight Medical Doctor and a panel of six participants was recruited to assess Face Validity (three professional caregivers and three family caregivers) related to patients with moderate Dementia (with 10 to 20 MMSE, mild and moderate Dementia). RESULTS: Each item has a degree of agreement between experts of more than 70% and the Total CVI score is .90 (90% of agreement). So, in line with these results we can accept the version of items proposed. As regard Face Validity, the items of the instrument seem to be clear, without difficulty and there are no questions consiedered offensive or irritating. CONCLUSION: The Italian version of the DEMQOL-PROXY showed good psychometric properties: its structure and the results it leads to are similar to the original version and to the other translations produced so far. For this reason, we consider this paper as a methodological bridge for a future complete Italian Validation.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND AIM OF THE WORK: The Chiba Inter-professional Competency Scale (CICS29) validated in several languages, it is a self-report instrument that investigates the degree of interprofessional collaboration in six areas: attitudes and beliefs of the professional; ability to manage a work group; actions to achieve goals; providing assistance that respects the patient; attitudes and behaviours that improve the cohesion of the working group; fulfilling or performing the own professional role. In addition to being recent, the scale investigates collaboration among all health professionals, and is not limited to specific professionals. The aim of the study was to validate the Italian version of CICS29. METHOD: A questionnaire-based study was conducted with an Italian sample consisting of 530 health professionals (419 women¸ mean age = 40 years, SD = 10.7; range 23- 58 years). The internal validity was measured using factor analysis. To verify the convergent validity, the Italian Version of Interprofessional Collaborative Competency Attainment Survey (ICCAS) was correlated with the CICS29; Results: The reliability and the internal validity of the CICS29 revealed 6 factors corresponding to the original subscales. The analysis presents an excellent sample adequacy measure (KMO = .933) with the scores ranging from 0.62 to 0.78 for the interclass correlation coefficients of the 6 domains. A significant level of correlation was found between the subscales of the CICS29 and the ICCAS. CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, the Italian version of CICS29 has a satisfactory level of reliability and validity and it is recommended for measuring interprofessional collaboration of the health professionals. RESUMO

The goal of this paper was to test Construct Validity of the Amsterdam Preoperative Anxiety and Information Scale (Italian Version) in women undergoing Breast Biopsy. To answer this purpose we have utilized Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) in a sample of 80 women undergoing Breast Biopsy at the Breast Unit of the Careggi University Hospital in Florence from January to February 2015. Overall the results support the construct validity of the Italian version of the APAIS for the population of women undergoing Breast Biopsy suggesting that the Italian version of APAIS can be useful to detect this clinically very relevant dimension.
