RESUMO

Histochemical localization of delta5-3beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (delta5-3beta-HSDH), 17beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (17beta-HSDH), 11beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (11beta-HSDH) and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PDH) have been studied in the kidney of white-breasted water hen, Amaurornis phoenicurus chinensis. All these enzyme activities occurred in the proximal and distal convoluted and collecting tubules, however, the intensity of these enzyme activities was more in the proximal convoluted tubules. It is suggested that these enzymes might have a role in converting certain hydroxysteroids to ketosteroids during steroid excretion.

RESUMO

The presence of NADH diaphorase, G-6-PDH, ICDH, delta5-3beta-HSDH, 17beta-HSDH and 11beta-HSDH enzyme activity has been histochemically demonstrated in the renal and the collecting tubules of the kidney of the musk shrew, Crocidura caerulea, a primitive mammal. It is inferred that the kidney is capable of converting delta5-3beta, 17beta- and 11beta-hydroxysteroids to ketosteroids, presumably, during steroid excretion.

RESUMO

PIP: A histochemical study of steroid synthesizing cellular sites in the ovaries of Calotes versicolor (Daud.), Hemidactylus flavivirdes (Ruppel) and Chamaeleon calcaratus (Boulenger) is discussed. THe distribution of delta 5-3beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase, 17beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase, 11beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase, glucose-6phosphate dehydrogenase, isocitrate dehydrogenase, lactate dehydrogenase and reduced nicotinamide-adenine dinucleotide diaphorase enzyme activities was studied in ovaries of the 3 species of lizards. All the enzyme activities occurred in 1) patches of cells of theca interna; 2) granulosa cells of large preovulatory, postovulatory, and atretic follicles; 3) interstitial cells of the ovarian stroma; and in the 4) ooplasm of the growing oocyte, suggesting their steroidogenic capacity. It was observed that following completion of follicular atresia, the phagocytic granulosa cells degenerate and the remaining cells of theca interna contribute to the formation of interstitial gland cells.^ieng

RESUMO

Ovine LH is needed for differentiation of juvenile Leydig cells and for their maintenance and steroidogenic potential, while FSH is necessary for Sertoli cell activity and spermatogonial multiplication suggesting that LH is steroidogenic hormone and FSH is gametogenic in the developing pigeon, C. livia. Homoplastic pituitary extract is more potent than ovine LH + FSH in stimulating gametogenic and endocrine components of the developing testis.

RESUMO

The presence of delta 5-3 beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (delta 5-3 beta-HSDH), 11beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase 11beta-HSDH), 17beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (17beta-HSDH) and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PDH) has been histochemically demonstrated in the zona glomerulosa, fasciculata and reticularis and also in the cortical cells that are found interspersed in the medulla of the adrenal gland of the bat, Vesperugo pipistrellus. The present study indicates that the adrenal cortex of the bat is capable of synthesizing corticosteroids and also sex steroids.
