RESUMO

Introduction: The epidermoid cysts of the mouth are located on the mid line of the floor of mouth, most likely caused by the retention of the germinal epithelium during the growth of the mandible and hyoid branchial arches. Here, we present a case of large epidermoid cyst involving sublingual region.

RESUMO

Wheat and rice roots have been shown to decarboxylate both the carbon atoms of glycine. Cold formate and serine significantly depressed (14)CO(2) evolution from (2-(14)CO) glycine. It is therefore likely that C(1)-tetrahydrofolate pool is involved in 2-C-glycine metabolism.

RESUMO

The chemical composition and pH of 30 fresh snow samples collected during December 1986 to May 1987 at Gulmarg (34 degrees 03' N, 74 degrees 24' E, 2655 m above mean sea level), a remote place in north India, were studied. The snow samples were, by and large, alkaline in nature and were largely influenced by non-marine aerosols. The concentrations of cations (Ca(2+), K(+) and Mg(2+)) were more than the anions (SO(2-)(4) and NO(-)(3)). Factor analysis indicated that most of the ionic components were transported into the region during the period of measurements. The transport of ionic components could be attributed to the passage of western disturbances over this region. The comparison of concentrations of anions and cations in the snow samples at Gulmarg with those reported from a few countries in the west revealed that the composition of Gulmarg snow largely differs in the concentrations of cations rather than anions. Among the cations, the concentration of Ca(2+) was high at Gulmarg and this could be responsible for buffering the pH of snow in the alkaline range.

RESUMO

Spasmogenic action of histamine, 2-(2-aminoethyl) pyridine (H1 receptor agonist) and 4 methyl-histamine (H2 receptor agonist), have been studied in guinea pig isolated urinary bladder in the presence of mepyramine (H1 antagonist) and metiamide (H2 antagonist) to identify the presence of H1 and H2 receptors. The study suggested the presence of H1 as well as H2 receptors in this preparation.

RESUMO

The redox state of cytochrome alpha 3 during in situ respiration of leaves of 20-day-old rice seedlings was assessed by in vivo aerobic assay of nitrate reductase, after 1 min exposure to carbon monoxide. Different stress treatments like water and salt stresses, disintegration of leaf tissues and darkness modified the redox state of cytochrome c oxidase. The dark treatment altered the redox state of cytochrome oxidase from reduced to the oxidized state, as judged by its reaction with CO in CO-sensitive rice cultivar. The water and salt stresses as well as the disintegration of leaf tissue on the contrary altered cytochrome oxidase from the oxidized to its reduced state in CO-insensitive cultivars; probably by changing the cellular integrity, turgidity and structure of mitochondrial membrane, and also due to decreased mitochondrial energization.
