RESUMO

The surface structure and its fluctuation of spherical micelles were investigated using a series of density correlation functions newly defined by spherical harmonics and Legendre polynomials based on the molecular dynamics calculations. To investigate the influence of head-group charges on the micelle surface structure, ionic sodium dodecyl sulfate and nonionic octaethyleneglycol monododecylether (C12E8) micelles were investigated as model systems. Large-scale density fluctuations were observed for both micelles in the calculated surface static structure factor. The area compressibility of the micelle surface evaluated by the surface static structure factor was tens-of-times larger than a typical value of a lipid membrane surface. The structural relaxation time, which was evaluated from the surface intermediate scattering function, indicates that the relaxation mechanism of the long-range surface structure can be well described by the hydrostatic approximation. The density fluctuation on the two-dimensional micelle surface has similar characteristics to that of three-dimensional fluids near the critical point.

RESUMO

A 76-year-old woman with multiple coronary risk factors was admitted to our hospital because of episodes of new-onset chest pain that had begun 3 days previously. She underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for severe stenoses in the two high lateral (HL) branches. Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) revealed massive stenotic lesions in the HL branches and tumorous nonstenotic lesions in the left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD) and the left circumflex coronary artery (LCx). iMAP™, optical coherence tomography (OCT), and coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) were performed. iMAP depicted fibrosis in the vessel (green areas) and nonfibrotic tissue change suggestive of inflammation outside the vessel (yellow/red areas). OCT revealed high-intensity homogenous intimal hyperplasia with superficial calcification, and CCTA showed massive periarterial soft lesions in the HL, LAD, and LCx. The serum IgG4 level was high at 252-427 mg/dL (8 measurements) (reference range, 4.8-105.0 mg/dL). We suspected IgG4-related coronary periarteritis on the basis of the comprehensive diagnostic criteria as a possible diagnosis. The clinical course was good after initial and subsequent PCIs for both the HL stenoses and the progressing LCx stenosis, and there was no recurrence of angina pectoris thereafter. Steroids were not administered because the massive lesions did not enlarge during the 16 months of follow-up. iMAP was able to evaluate the tissue characteristics of tumorous lesions in the stenosed HL branches and the nonstenotic LAD and LCx in a patient with an elevated level of IgG4.

RESUMO

AIM: A concept of social capital that accounts for a community's cultural background and incorporates social capital into public health nursing practice are needed. This study aimed to describe the characteristics of social capital in the context of public health nursing in Japan. METHODS: The study interviewed 11 veteran public health nurses from five municipalities across Japan and undertook a qualitative research analysis. A digital voice recorder was used to collect qualitative data by using a background data sheet and semistructured interviews. Trustworthiness in interpreting the data was ensured by conducting 13 additional interviews with residents and collating the two sets of results. RESULTS: All the participants were female: 10 were veterans with ≥15 years' experience. Nine worked in management. The methods yielded six categories: (i) the richness of the interactions among the residents; (ii) the community residents who showed concern for those in need; (iii) community civic activities; (iv) the residents' willingness to contribute to the community; (v) the health promotion volunteers who work alongside the public health nurses; and (vi) an enriched community environment. CONCLUSION: The results contribute to an understanding of social capital in the context of public health nursing activities and further research on social capital. It also is discussed how social capital can be incorporated into public health nursing activities in the future.
