RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Hemangiomas are one of the common primary benign tumors of the intraosseous and soft tissue compartments in humans. Vertebral hemangiomas being the most common of all are seen in daily radiological practice. Hemangioma of the rib is rarely seen. CASE REPORT: We reported on a case of a rib lesion which had a classic imaging pattern of hemangioma. We highlighted the use of pre-operative embolization of such a vascular rib lesion before surgically removing the lesion by thoracotomy to reduce the risk of bleeding. CONCLUSIONS: We also emphasized overt complications of overzealous needling of such a vascular lesion for histopathological diagnosis as in our case.

RESUMO

Gum Arabic, a biodegradable natural polymer was used as a matrix to encapsulate endoglucanase from Thermomonospora sp. The modified enzyme retained complete biocatalytic activity and exhibited a shift in the optimum temperature [50-55 degrees C] and considerable increase in the pH and temperature stabilities as compared to the free enzyme. Encapsulation of the enzyme also protected the activity in presence of detergents and enhanced the shelf life. A 3-fold decrease in the initial rate of reaction indicated a controlled release of the enzyme conferring properties preferred for its potential application in the manufacture of detergents.

RESUMO

The incidence of congenital heart disease (CHD) is 2.4-3.8/1000 live births. Up to 70.7 % of all cases of CHD are reported to be benign; complex heart anomalies are extremely rare. Our case is extremely rare, as we report three very rare findings-truncus arteriosus, anomalous origin of the right coronary artery from the pulmonary artery (ARCAPA), and unilateral left pulmonary artery agenesis-in a single patient. Congenital complex cardiac abnormalities are very rare, and two-dimensional echocardiography screening should be supported by cardiac computed tomography (CT). We report a case of truncus arteriosus associated with ARCAPA and left pulmonary artery agenesis diagnosed by cardiac computed tomography; we believe that such an unusual case with all three of these entities has never been reported before.
