RESUMO

The external electric field has emerged as a powerful tool for building molecular switches with excellent properties. In this work, we investigate the impact of an external electric field on the transition between lithium salt and electride-like molecule conformations in Li@corannulene. Remarkably, the distance between the Li atom and the corannulene bottom displays a sharp increase under the influence of an external electric field strength of F-z = 110 × 10-4 a.u. As the external electric field strength increases, the Li atom brings about different directions of charge transfer (CT). The natural population analysis (NPA) charge and the molecular electrostatic potential (ESP) results show that the intermolecular CT occurs from the Li atom to the corannulene with the F-z ranging from 0 to 100 × 10-4 a.u. Interestingly, when the external electric field reaches F-z = 110 × 10-4 a.u., the CT is oriented from the corannulene to the Li atom. Moreover, electron localization function (ELF) basins are presented under an F-z of 110 × 10-4 a.u., which indicates that Li@corannulene exhibits electride-like (e-⋯[Li@corannulene]+) molecules and lithiation salt (Li+[corannulene]-) under an F-z of 0 to 100 × 10-4 a.u. Significantly, the differences in charge transfer also contribute to a significant improvement in hyperpolarizabilities (ßtot) during the conformation transition from lithiation salt (Li+[corannulene]-) to electride-like (e-⋯[Li@corannulene]+) molecules. This study explores the potential of Li@corannulene as a promising second-order NLO material, and the external electric field provides an efficient strategy for designing and developing NLO switching devices.

RESUMO

Carbon nanorings have attracted substantial interest from synthetic chemists due to their unique topological structures and distinct physical properties. An intriguing π-conjugated double-nanoring structure, denoted as [8]CPP-[10]cyclacene, was constructed via the integration of [8]cycloparaphenylene ([8]CPP) into [10]cyclacene. Using the external electric field stimuli-responsiveness of [8]CPP-[10]cyclacene, directional charge transfer can be induced, resulting in the emergence of intriguing properties. The effects of the external electric field in three specific directions were explored, vertically in the [8]CPP unit (Fy), vertically in the [10]cyclacene unit (Fz), and horizontally along the double nanorings diameter (Fx). Interestingly, the external electric field vertically to the [10]cyclacene unit significantly enhanced the first hyperpolarizability (ßtot) compared to that vertically to the [8]CPP unit. Notably, [8]CPP-[10]cyclacene under Fx exhibited significantly larger the ßtot values (1.48 × 105 a.u.) than those of vertical Fy and Fz. This work opens up a wide range of nonlinear optics, making it a compelling area to explore in the field of carbon nanomaterials.

RESUMO

The occurrence of Giardia and Cryptosporidium (oo)cysts in drinking source water poses a serious public health risk. Here, we established a method that combines membrane concentration and real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to quantify Giardia and Cryptosporidium in drinking water. The water samples were filtered through a cellulose membrane to collect Giardia and Cryptosporidium, and then nucleic acids were extracted. Specific primers and probes were designed and synthesized according to the gph gene sequence of Giardia and 18S rRNA gene sequence of Cryptosporidium. The concentrations of the two targets were determined using real-time PCR technology. The sensitivity, specificity, and stability of the method were evaluated. Our findings revealed that the detection limits of real-time PCR method for detecting Giardia and Cryptosporidium were 0.926 and 0.65 copy/µL, respectively; the spiked recovery rates were above 60% and 38%, respectively, and relative standard deviations were under 0.95% and 2.26%, respectively. Therefore, this effective procedure based on the membrane concentration method and real-time PCR will be useful for detecting Giardia and Cryptosporidium in drinking water for purpose of continuous environmental monitoring.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Triclosan, an antimicrobial agent in personal care products, could be absorbed into the human body through the digestive tract. This animal experiment aimed to clarify the effects of triclosan exposure on the microbiome and intestinal immune functions in healthy and ulcerative colitis models. METHODS: Balb/c mice were maintained on an AIN-93G diet containing 80ppm triclosan dissolved in polyethylene as vehicle or vehicle alone for 1 week or 4 weeks. In the end, the mice were sacrificed, blood samples and colon tissues were collected for analysis of inflammation, and fecal samples were collected for 16 S rRNA sequencing of gut microbiota. To establish ulcerative colitis mice model, at the beginning of the 4th week, mice maintained on the diet with or without triclosan were treated with 2% Dextran sulfate sodium(DSS) in drinking water for 1 week. Then mice were sacrificed for analysis of colitis and gut microbiota. RESULTS: Triclosan exposure to common mice enhanced the levels of p-NF-κb and Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), and decreased the Occludin in the colon. Triclosan exposure to DSS-induced mice increased the level of inflammatory cytokines, reduced the levels of Occludin, and exacerbated the degree of damage to intestinal mucosa and crypt, infiltration of inflammatory cells and atypia of glandular cells. Low-grade intraepithelial neoplasia appeared. Both in common and DSS-induced mice, triclosan exposure changed the diversity and composition of gut microbiota. Fecal samples showed higher enrichment of sulfate-reducing bacteria and Bacteroides, and less butyrate-producing bacteria. CONCLUSION: Triclosan exposure induced disturbance of gut microbiota and exaggerated experimental colitis in mice. And changes in the composition of gut microbiota were characterized by the increase of harmful bacteria, including sulfate-reducing bacteria and Bacteroides, and the reduction of protective probiotics, butyrate-producing bacteria.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To identify the risk factors of ESKAPE pathogens infection and related death in cancer patients, and to supply evidence for clinical precaution and diagnosis. METHODS: A retrospective study of clinical and experimental data of cancer patients with bloodstream infection were carried out in Sichuan Cancer Hospital from 2013 to 2018. The clinical feature, predisposing factors and risk factors of death in ESKAPE group and non-ESKAPE group were analyzed by univariate analysis and multivariate logistic regression. RESULTS: A total of 753 patients were enrolled in the study. Totally 795 pathogenic bacteria strains were isolated from blood culture and there were 278 ESKAPE strains, which took up 34.97% of isolated strains. Univariate analysis and multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that gender of male, multiple pathogens, history of exposure to enzyme inhibitors and agranulocytosis were independent risk factors of ESKAPE pathogens bloodstream infection. Peritoneal infection and combined fungal infection were independent risk factors of ESKAPE bloodstream infection related death. CONCLUSION: The bloodstream infection of ESKAPE pathogens is a problem worthy of clinical attention for cancer patients with neutrophil deficiency, previous antibiotic exposure, and fungal infection and peritoneal infection.

RESUMO

We report the formal synthesis of (±)-pentalenolactone A methyl ester from simple 2-methoxyphenol. The key features of our route are as follows: a Diels-Alder reaction of masked o-benzoquinone to assemble the functionalized bicyclo[2.2.2]octenone, a continuous-flow oxa-di-π-methane rearrangement for building the diquinane core (AB ring), and an oxidative cleavage/oxidation sequence for annulation of the δ-lactone (C ring).

RESUMO

RNA is a functionally versatile polymer but suffers from susceptibility to spontaneous and RNase-catalyzed degradation. This vulnerability makes it difficult to preserve RNA for extended periods of time, thus limiting its use in various contexts, including practical applications as functional nucleic acids. Here we present a simple method to preserve RNA by pullulan (a complex sugar produced by Aureobasidium pullulans fungus) film formation. This strategy can markedly suppress both spontaneous and RNase degradation. Importantly, the pullulan film readily dissolves in aqueous solution, thus allowing retrieval of fully functional RNA species. In order to illustrate the advantage of this protective method in a practical application, we engineered a simple paper sensor containing a bacteria-detecting RNA-cleaving DNAzyme. This detection capability of the device was unchanged after storage at room temperature for six months.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Synonymous codon usage bias (SCUB) is an inevitable phenomenon in organismic taxa, generally referring to differences in the occurrence frequency of codons across different species or within the genome of the same species. SCUB happens in various degrees under pressure from nature selection, mutation bias and other factors in different ways. It also attaches great significance to gene expression and species evolution, however, a systematic investigation towards the codon usage in Bombyx mori (B. mori) has not been reported yet. Moreover, it is still indistinct about the reasons contributing to the bias or the relationship between the bias and the evolution of B. mori. RESULTS: The comparison of the codon usage pattern between the genomic DNA (gDNA) and the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) from B. mori suggests that mtDNA has a higher level of codon bias. Furthermore, the correspondence analysis suggests that natural selection, such as gene length, gene function and translational selection, dominates the codon preference of mtDNA, while the composition constraints for mutation bias only plays a minor role. Additionally, the clustering results of the silkworm superfamily suggest a lack of explicitness in the relationship between the codon usage of mitogenome and species evolution. CONCLUSIONS: Among the complicated influence factors leading to codon bias, natural selection is found to play a major role in shaping the high bias in the mtDNA of B. mori from our current data. Although the cluster analysis reveals that codon bias correlates little with the species evolution, furthermore, a detailed analysis of codon usage of mitogenome provides better insight into the evolutionary relationships in Lepidoptera. However, more new methods and data are needed to investigate the relationship between the mtDNA bias and evolution.

RESUMO

Although the voice-sensitive neural system emerges very early in development, it has yet to be demonstrated whether the neonatal brain is sensitive to voice perception. We measured the EEG mismatch response (MMR) elicited by emotionally spoken syllables "dada" along with correspondingly synthesized nonvocal sounds, whose fundamental frequency contours were matched, in 98 full-term newborns aged 1-5 days. In Experiment 1, happy syllables relative to nonvocal sounds elicited an MMR lateralized to the right hemisphere. In Experiment 2, fearful syllables elicited stronger amplitudes than happy or neutral syllables, and this response had no sex differences. In Experiment 3, angry versus happy syllables elicited an MMR, although their corresponding nonvocal sounds did not. Here, we show that affective discrimination is selectively driven by voice processing per se rather than low-level acoustical features and that the cerebral specialization for human voice and emotion processing emerges over the right hemisphere during the first days of life.

RESUMO

BackgroundTo date, pharmacologic therapy is considered the standard first-line treatment for insomnia disorder, but there are still some concerns over the adverse reactions. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) and cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) as an alternative to pharmacologic therapy have the advantages of fewer side effects and better patient tolerance in the treatment of chronic insomnia disorder. ObjectiveTo explore the clinical efficacy of rTMS and CBT-I on chronic insomnia disorder, so as to provide a novel therapeutic option for the treatment of chronic insomnia disorder. MethodsA total of 50 patients with chronic insomnia disorder attending the outpatient clinic of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Mental Health Center or community hospital from September 21, 2020 to December 16, 2021 and fulfilling the International Classification of Sleep Disorders, third edition (ICSD-3) diagnostic criteria were enrolled. Additionally, 16 age- and sex-matched healthy controls recruited from the community were set as control group. Patients were randomly divided into rTMS group and CBT-I group, 25 cases in each group, and received rTMS or CBT-I intervention for 6 weeks respectively. At enrollment and completion of intervention, patients were subjected to Polysomnography (PSG), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) and Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status (RBANS). All participants underwent resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) scans, and amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF) was calculated. The brain regions with statistically different ALFF values between patient group and control group were chosen as regions of interest (ROIs), and whole-brain seed-based functional connectivity analyses were conducted. ResultsAfter a 6-week intervention in the two groups, the main effect of time was significant for PSQI (F=41.160, P<0.05), ISI (F=69.615, P<0.05) and RBANS immediate memory (F=47.923, P<0.05), language (F=12.090, P<0.05) and delayed memory indices (F=28.193, P<0.05). A significant main effect of time for total sleep time (F=8.995, P<0.05), a significant main effect of time for sleep efficiency (F=12.414, P<0.05), a significant main effect of group for sleep efficiency (F=4.342, P<0.05) and a significant main effect of time for N1% (F=7.806, P<0.05) were observed. Sleep efficacy in CBT-I group improved significantly from pre- to post-test (t=-2.785, P<0.05). Patients in rTMS group showed increased functional connectivity between the orbital superior frontal gyrus and other regions including left lentiform nucleus putamen (t=4.991, P<0.05), right median cingulate and paracingulate gyri (t=4.471, P<0.05) and right postcentral gyrus (t=4.922, P<0.05), and increased functional connectivity between the orbital superior frontal gyrus and left middle frontal gyrus was found in CBT-I group (t=6.586, P<0.05). ConclusionrTMS and CBT-I may help alleviate insomnia and improve cognitive function of patients with chronic insomnia disorder. RESUMO

Objective:To investigate the current status of endoscopic treatment for gastroesophageal varices in portal hypertension in China, and to provide supporting data and reference for the development of endoscopic treatment. Methods:In this study, initiated by the Liver Health Consortium in China (CHESS), a questionnaire was designed and distributed online to investigate the basic condition of endoscopic treatment for gastroesophageal varices in portal hypertension in 2022 in China. Questions included annual number and indication of endoscopic procedures, adherence to guideline for preventing esophagogastric variceal bleeding (EGVB), management and timing of emergent EGVB, management of gastric and isolated varices, and improvement of endoscopic treatment. Proportions of hospitals concerning therapeutic choices to all participant hospitals were calculated. Guideline adherence between secondary and tertiary hospitals were compared by using Chi-square test. Results:A total of 836 hospitals from 31 provinces (anotomous regions and municipalities) participated in the survey. According to the survey, the control of acute EGVB (49.3%, 412/836) and the prevention of recurrent bleeding (38.3%, 320/836) were major indications of endoscopic treatment. For primary [non-selective β-blocker (NSBB) or endoscopic therapies] and secondary prophylaxis (NSBB and endoscopic therapies) of EGVB, adherence to domestic guideline was 72.5% (606/836) and 39.2% (328/836), respectively. There were significant differences in the adherence between secondary and tertiary hospitals in primary prophylaxis of EGVB [71.0% (495/697) VS 79.9% (111/139), χ2=4.11, P=0.033] and secondary prophylaxis of EGVB [41.6% (290/697) VS 27.3% (38/139), χ2=9.31, P=0.002]. A total of 78.2% (654/836) hospitals preferred endoscopic therapies treating acute EGVB, and endoscopic therapy was more likely to be the first choice for treating acute EGVB in tertiary hospitals (82.6%, 576/697) than secondary hospitals [56.1% (78/139), χ2=46.33, P<0.001]. The optimal timing was usually within 12 hours (48.5%, 317/654) and 12-24 hours (36.9%, 241/654) after the bleeding. Regarding the management of gastroesophageal varices type 2 and isolated gastric varices type 1, most hospitals used cyanoacrylate injection in combination with sclerotherapy [48.2% (403/836) and 29.9% (250/836), respectively], but substantial proportions of hospitals preferred clip-assisted therapies [12.4% (104/836) and 26.4% (221/836), respectively]. Improving the skills of endoscopic doctors (84.2%, 704/836), and enhancing the precision of pre-procedure evaluation and quality of multidisciplinary team (78.9%, 660/836) were considered urgent needs in the development of endoscopic treatment. Conclusion:A variety of endoscopic treatments for gastroesophageal varices in portal hypertension are implemented nationwide. Participant hospitals are active to perform emergent endoscopy for acute EGVB, but are inadequate in following recommendations regarding primary and secondary prophylaxis of EGVB. Moreover, the selection of endoscopic procedures for gastric varices differs greatly among hospitals.

RESUMO

The tumor suppressor LKB1 is an evolutionarily conserved serine/threonine kinase. In humans, LKB1 can be inactivated either by germ-line mutations resulting in Peutz-Jeghers syndrome or by somatic mutations causing predisposition to multiple sporadic cancers. LKB1 has wide-ranging functions involved in tumor suppression and cell homeostasis, including establishing cell polarity, setting energy metabolic balance (via phosphorylation of AMP-dependent kinase), regulating the cell cycle, and promoting apoptosis. LKB1 function was previously linked to the tumor suppressor p53 and shown to activate the p53 target gene p21/WAF1. In this study, we further investigated LKB1 activation of the p21/WAF1 gene and addressed whether LKB1 is directly involved at the gene promoter. We find that, consistent with previous studies, LKB1 stabilizes p53 in vivo, correlating with activation of p21/WAF1. We show that LKB1 physically associates with p53 in the nucleus and directly or indirectly phosphorylates p53 Ser15 (previously shown to be phosphorylated by AMP-dependent kinase) and p53 Ser392. Further, these two p53 residues are required for LKB1-dependent cell cycle G(1) arrest. Chromatin immunoprecipitation analyses show that LKB1 is recruited directly to the p21/WAF1 promoter, as well as to other p53 activated promoters, in a p53-dependent fashion. Finally, a genetic fusion of LKB1 to defective p53, deleted for its activation domains, promotes activation of p21/WAF1. These results indicate that LKB1 has a direct role in activation of p21/WAF1 gene.

RESUMO

Objective:To evaluate the correlation between inflammatory diet and reflux esophagitis (RE) with the dietary inflammatory index (DII), and to provide scientific evidence for the prevention and treatment of RE at the level of dietary guidance. Methods:From December 2021 to September 2022, 145 RE patients (RE group) who visited the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University were recruited. During the same period, 145 subjects who underwent check-ups at the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University were selected as the healthy control group, and age and gender were matched according to the ratio of 1 to 1. The baseline data of the 2 groups, including body mass index, the history of smoking and drinking, poor dietary habits, and physical activity intensity were collected. Dietary intake of the patients was assessed by a semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire, and the overall DII was calculated to evaluate the potential anti-inflammatory or pro-inflammatory effects of diet. According to the tertiles of the DII of the healthy control group (33.3% and 66.7% as the cut-off), dietary inflammatory potential was divided into low (<-0.06), moderate (-0.06 to 1.11) and high pro-inflammatory potential diet (>1.11). Logistic regression model was performed to analyze the correlation between DII and RE risk. Linear trend test was used to compare the overall change trend of RE risk OR value along with the increase of DII. Independent sample t test, Mann-Whitney U test and chi-square test were used for statistical analysis. Results:The body mass index of RE group was higher than that of healthy control group( (24.11±2.57) kg/m 2 vs. (23.38 ±2.60) kg/m 2), and the difference was statistically significant ( t=-2.41, P=0.017). The proportions of smoking, drinking, over-eating, and eating within 3 h before bedtime of RE group was higher than those of the healthy control group (42.8%, 62/145 vs. 31.0%, 45/145; 31.0%, 45/145 vs. 16.6%, 24/145; 33.1%, 48/145 vs. 17.9%, 26/145; 52.4%, 76/145 vs. 13.1%, 19/145), and the differences were statistically significant ( χ2=4.28, 8.39, 8.78 and 50.86, P=0.039, 0.004, 0.003 and<0.001). While the proportions of night snacking and moderate to severe physical activity of RE group were lower than those of the healthy control group (14.5%, 21/145 vs. 24.1%, 35/145; 22.8%, 33/145 vs.37.2%, 54/145), and the differences were statistically significant ( χ2=4.34 and 7.24, P=0.037 and 0.007). The DII of RE group was higher than that of the healthy control group (1.05 (0.03, 1.62) vs. 0.34(-0.61, 1.35)), and the difference was statistically significant ( Z=8 661.50, P=0.010). Compared with the low pro-inflammatory potential diet, high pro-inflammatory potential diet had a 1.30-fold increased the risk of RE ( OR=2.30, 95% confidence interval (95% CI) 1.29 to 4.09, P=0.005). After adjusting for total energy intake, age, gender, ethnicity, body mass index, education level, and physical activity intensity, the high pro-inflammatory potential diet was still positively correlated with the risk of RE ( OR=2.58, 95% CI 1.16 to 5.76, P=0.020). In the continuous DII, the risk of RE increased by 36% for each 1 increase in DII ( OR=1.36, 95% CI 1.11 to 1.68, P=0.003). After adjusting for major confounding factors, the continuous DII was still positively correlated with the risk of RE ( OR=1.41, 95% CI 1.08 to 1.85, P=0.012; OR=1.42, 95% CI 1.05 to 1.93, P=0.023). The results of trend test showed that the higher the DII, the greater the risk of RE ( P=0.039). Conclusions:Pro-inflammatory diet is correlated with the increased risk of RE, and there is a certain dose-response relationship. Reasonable reduction of the intake of pro-inflammatory food may be beneficial to reduce the risk of RE.

RESUMO

Objective:To learn about the iodine nutrition level and its spatial distribution status in key populations in Hubei Province, so as to provide a basis for adjustment of iodine supplementation policy and the realization of scientific and accurate iodine supplementation. Methods:In 2020, a sampling was carried out in Hubei Province according to the "National Iodine Deficiency Disorders Monitoring Plan (2016 Edition)" to monitor the concentration of salt iodine and urinary iodine of key populations (children ages 8 - 10 years old and pregnant women). The spatial distribution of iodine nutrition levels was analyzed by spatial epidemiology. Results:The median salt iodine of 17 263 children's family salt samples was 25.0 mg/kg, and the median urinary iodine (MUI) was 217.0 μg/L. There was significant spatial aggregation in the distribution of urinary iodine level in children at the county level ( Moran's Index = 0.36, P < 0.001). The significant hot spot areas with high urinary iodine level among children were located in Shiyan City and Xiangyang City, while the significant cold spot areas with low urinary iodine level were mainly concentrated in Yichang City. The median salt iodine of 8 618 pregnant women's family salt samples was 25.1 mg/kg, the MUI was 176.3 μg/L. The urinary iodine level among pregnant women at the county level was spatially clustered ( Moran's Index = 0.22, P = 0.003) . The significant hot spot areas with high urinary iodine level among pregnant women were mainly in Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, the significant cold spot areas were mainly concentrated in Yichang City. Conclusions:In 2020, the iodine nutrition of children in Hubei Province is at a super appropriate level (200 - 299 μg/L), and the iodine nutrition status of pregnant women is more sensitive, which is close to the lower limit of the appropriate level (150 μg/L). The urinary iodine level of children and pregnant women has significant spatial aggregation at the county level. Targeted intervention will be needed in counties (dictricts) where the urinary iodine level is lower or higher than the normal range, to achieve accurate and scientific iodine supplementation.

OBJECTIVES@#To investigate the difference in intestinal microbiota between preterm infants with neurodevelopmental impairment (NDI) and those without NDI.@*METHODS@#In this prospective cohort study, the preterm infants who were admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit of Maternal and Child Health Hospital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region from September 1, 2019 to September 30, 2021 were enrolled as subjects. According to the assessment results of Gesell Developmental Scale at the corrected gestational age of 1.5-2 years, they were divided into two groups: normal (n=115) and NDI (n=100). Fecal samples were collected one day before discharge, one day before introducing solid food, and at the corrected gestational age of 1 year. High-throughput sequencing was used to compare the composition of intestinal microbiota between groups.@*RESULTS@#Compared with the normal group, the NDI group had a significantly higher Shannon diversity index at the corrected gestational age of 1 year (P<0.05). The principal coordinate analysis showed a significant difference in the composition of intestinal microbiota between the two groups one day before introducing solid food and at the corrected gestational age of 1 year (P<0.05). Compared with the normal group, the NDI group had a significantly higher abundance of Bifidobacterium in the intestine at all three time points, a significantly higher abundance of Enterococcus one day before introducing solid food and at the corrected gestational age of 1 year, and a significantly lower abundance of Akkermansia one day before introducing solid food (P<0.05).@*CONCLUSIONS@#There are significant differences in the composition of intestinal microbiota between preterm infants with NDI and those without NDI. This study enriches the data on the characteristics of intestinal microbiota in preterm infants with NDI and provides reference for the microbiota therapy and intervention for NDI in preterm infants.

RESUMO

Objective To explore the relationship between different obesity indicators and carotid intima-media thickness(CIMT)in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).Methods A total of 1762 T2DM patients who visited the Endocrinology Department of Changzhou Second People's Hospital Affiliated with Nanjing Medical University and the Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Hospital Affiliated with Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January 2019 to February 2022 were enrolled in this study. They were divided into youth group(18~44 years old,n=402),middle aged group(45~59 years old,n=1032),and elderly group(≥60 years old,n=328)according to WHO age classification criteria. The influencing factors for CIMT thickening in T2DM patients were analyzed using binary logistic regression, and the evaluation of the predictive effect of different obesity indicators on CIMT thickening was evaluated by receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curves. Results The subcuta-neous fat area, visceral fat area(VFA),neck circumference(NC),BMI,WC,cardiac metabolic index(CMI),Chinese visceral fat index(CAVI),visceral fat index, triglyceride glucose index, body roundness index, lipid aggregation index,HbA1c,DBP,TC,TG,HDL-C,LDL-C were lower in the middle aged and elderly groups than in youth group(P<0.05).Binary logistic regression showed that VFA,NC,CMI in young T2DM patients,CAVI in middle aged T2DM patients, and NC in elderly T2DM patients were influ-encing factors for CIMT thickening.ROC curve analysis showed that VFA in young T2DM patients,CAVI in middle aged T2DM patients, and NC in elderly T2DM patients had a better predictive effect on CIMT thickening, with areas under the ROC curve of 0.567,0.574,and 0.573 respectively. Conclusion VFA,CAVI,and NC have a certain predictive effect on CIMT thickening in young, middle aged, and elderly T2DM patients.

RESUMO

An experimental study was carried out to determine the minimum wet thickness of slot die coating for low-viscosity solutions. There exist three distinct coating regions (I, II, and III), depending on the physical properties of the coating fluid, die geometry, and flow conditions. A critical Reynolds number was found, below which viscous and surface tension effects are important. In Region I, the minimum wet thickness increases with increasing capillary number and becomes independent of capillary number in Region II. Region III exists above the critical Reynolds number where fluid inertia is dominant. In this region, the minimum wet thickness decreases as Reynolds number increases. Flow visualization on the coating bead reveals that the position of the downstream meniscus of the coating bead determines the types of coating region, whereas the shape and position of the upstream meniscus determine the type of coating defects. It was also observed that the downstream meniscus was not located at the die lip corner and both the static and dynamic contact angles varied under different conditions. These findings are critical for realistic theoretical study of slot die coating.

RESUMO

Harlequin ichthyosis (HI) is the most devastating form of skin disorder, which is inherited as autosomal recessive trait related to consanguineous marriage. Although prenatal examination has become scheduled and convenient throughout Taiwan, an unexpected case of HI in a male premature infant born at 32 weeks of gestation was presented. The parents were healthy, neither relatives nor having history of congenital abnormality. We report our management and the massive impact left on both parents. We believe this is an extremely rare case in Taiwan.

RESUMO

Objective:To analyze the independent risk factors of ulcerative colitis (UC) with thromboembolism (TE), in order to diagnose UC with TE as early as possible and take corresponding preventive measures, so as to improve the prognosis and reduce the mortality of UC with TE.Methods:From January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2020, at the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University, from January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2020, at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University, from January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2020, at the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University, during hospitalization 46 patients diagnosed with UC with TE were enrolled. According to the ratio of 1∶2, at same period 92 simple UC patients were selected as control. The condition of embolization of UC patients with TE was analyzed. The clinical data(hypertension history, length of hospital stay, etc.), the degree of disease activity, laboratory test indicators (prothrombin time (PT), D-dimer, fibrin degradation product(FDP), hemoglobin(Hb), mean platelet volume(MPV), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), C-reactive protein (CRP), etc.)of the patients of UC with TE and UC without comorbidities were compared. Multivariate logistic regression was used to analyze the independent risk factors of UC with TE. Independent sample t test, Mann-Whitney U test, Chi-square test or Fisher′s exact probability method were used for statistical analysis. Results:Among the 46 cases of UC with TE, 14 cases (30.4%) had single site venous TE, mainly venous thrombosis of lower limbs; 20 cases (43.5%) had single site arterial TE, mainly myocardial infarction and cerebral infarction; 12 cases (26.1%) had multi-site TE. The proportion of patients with hypertension history and with severe active period of UC, and the levels of D-dimer, FDP, ESR and CRP in patients with UC with TE were all higher than those in patients without comorbidities(52.2%, 24/46 vs.33.7%, 31/92, 45.7%, 21/46 vs.19.6%, 18/92, (822.03±654.33) μg/L vs.(230.28±225.62) μg/L, 5.77 mg/L(6.87 mg/L) vs. 2.10 mg/L(1.55 mg/L), (46.32±28.27) mm/1 h vs.(33.08±24.30) mm/1 h, 22.05 mg/L(46.42 mg/L) vs. 5.58 mg/L(11.58 mg/L)); the hospital stay and PT were longer than those in patients without comorbidities ((12.76±10.18) d vs.(8.66±4.89) d, (14.13±6.06) s vs.(11.86±1.42) s); the Hb and MPV were lower than those in patients without comorbidities ((110.91±31.38) g/L vs.(123.83±27.67) g/L, (9.60±0.94) fL vs.(10.04±1.16) fL; and the differences were statistically significant( χ2=4.37 and 10.29, t=-5.96, Z=-5.78, t=-2.85, Z=-3.87, t=-2.58, -2.50, 2.47 and 2.47; all P<0.05). The results of multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that severe activity period of UC ( OR=3.079, 95% confidence interval (95% CI) 1.100 to 8.615), hypertension history ( OR=4.454, 95% CI 1.467 to 13.519), and D-dimer level( OR=1.003, 95% CI 1.001 to 1.005) were all independent risk factors of UC with TE(all P<0.05). Conclusions:Lower extremity venous, myocardial infarction and cerebral infarction are common in UC with TE. Severe activity period of UC, history of hypertension and D-dimer level are independent risk factors of UC with TE. These above factors should be paid attention to and corresponding prevention should be taken.
