RESUMO

Long-distance transmission between spatially separated microwave cavities is a crucial area of quantum information science and technology. In this work, we present a method for achieving long-distance transmission of arbitrary quantum states between two microwave cavities, by using a hybrid system that comprises two microwave cavities, two nitrogen-vacancy center ensembles (NV ensembles), two optical cavities, and an optical fiber. Each NV ensemble serves as a quantum transducer, dispersively coupling with a microwave cavity and an optical cavity, which enables the conversion of quantum states between a microwave cavity and an optical cavity. The optical fiber acts as a connector between the two optical cavities. Numerical simulations demonstrate that our method allows for the transfer of an arbitrary photonic qubit state between two spatially separated microwave cavities with high fidelity. Furthermore, the method exhibits robustness against environmental decay, parameter fluctuations, and additive white Gaussian noise. Our approach offers a promising way for achieving long-distance transmission of quantum states between two spatially separated microwave cavities, which may have practical applications in networked large-scale quantum information processing and quantum communication.

RESUMO

Plant non-specific lipid transfer proteins (nsLTPs) are small, cysteine-rich proteins that play significant roles in biotic and abiotic stress responses; however, the molecular mechanism of their functions against viral infections remains unclear. In this study, we employed virus-induced gene-silencing and transgenic overexpression to functionally analyse a type-I nsLTP in Nicotiana benthamiana, NbLTP1, in the immunity response against tobacco mosaic virus (TMV). NbLTP1 was inducible by TMV infection, and its silencing increased TMV-induced oxidative damage and the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), compromised local and systemic resistance to TMV, and inactivated the biosynthesis of salicylic acid (SA) and its downstream signaling pathway. The effects of NbLTP1-silencing were partially restored by application of exogenous SA. Overexpressing NbLTP1 activated genes related to ROS scavenging to increase cell membrane stability and maintain redox homeostasis, confirming that an early ROS burst followed by ROS suppression at the later phases of pathogenesis is essential for resistance to TMV infection. The cell-wall localization of NbLTP1 was beneficial to viral resistance. Overall, our results showed that NbLTP1 positively regulates plant immunity against viral infection through up-regulating SA biosynthesis and its downstream signaling component, NONEXPRESSOR OF PATHOGENESIS-RELATED 1 (NPR1), which in turn activates pathogenesis-related genes, and by suppressing ROS accumulation at the later phases of viral pathogenesis.

RESUMO

Grover's search algorithm is a well-known quantum algorithm that has been extensively studied and improved to increase its success rate and enhance its flexibility. However, most improved search algorithms require an adjustment of the oracle, which may not be feasible in practical problem-solving scenarios. In this work, we report an experimental demonstration of a deterministic quantum search for multiple marked states without adjusting the oracle. A linear optical setup is designed to search for two marked states, one in a 16-state database with an initial equal-superposition state and the other in an 8-state database with different initial nonequal-superposition states. The evolution of the probability of finding each state in the database is also measured and displayed. Our experimental results agree well with the theoretical predictions, thereby proving the feasibility of the search protocol and the implementation scheme. This work is a pioneering experimental demonstration of deterministic quantum search for multiple marked states without adjusting the oracle.

RESUMO

Mono-2-ethylhexyl phthalic acid (MEHP) is the most toxic metabolite of plasticizer di-2-ethylhexyl phthalic acid (DEHP), and there is limited information available on the effects of MEHP on neurotoxicity. This study aims to examine the neurotoxicity of MEHP and preliminarily explore its potential molecular mechanisms. We found that MEHP impeded the growth of zebrafish embryos and the neurodevelopmental-related gene expression at environmentally relevant concentrations. MEHP exposure also induces oxidative stress response and brain cell apoptosis accompanied by a decrease in acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity in zebrafish larvae. RNA-Seq and bioinformatics analysis showed that MEHP treatment altered the nervous system, neurogenic diseases, and visual perception pathways. The locomotor activity in dark-to-light cycles and phototaxis test confirmed the abnormal neural behavior of zebrafish larvae. Besides, the immune system has produced a large number of differentially expressed genes related to neural regulation. Inflammatory factor IL1ß and IL-17 signaling pathways highly respond to MEHP, indicating that inflammation caused by immune system imbalance is a potential mechanism of MEHP-induced neurotoxicity. This study expands the understanding of the toxicity and molecular mechanisms of MEHP, providing a new perspective for in-depth neurotoxicity exploration of similar compounds.

RESUMO

The intestinal flora plays an important role in the occurrence and development of liver cancer, affecting the efficacy and side effects of conventional antitumor therapy. Recently, immunotherapy for liver cancer has been a palliative treatment for patients with advanced liver cancer lacking surgical indications. Representative drugs include immune checkpoint inhibitors, regulators, tumor vaccines, and cellular immunotherapies. The effects of immunotherapy on liver cancer vary because of the heterogeneity of the tumors. Intestinal flora can affect the efficacy and side effects of immunotherapy for liver cancer by regulating host immunity. Therefore, applying probiotics, prebiotics, antibiotics, and fecal transplantation to interfere with the intestinal flora is expected to become an important means of assisting immunotherapy for liver cancer. This article reviews publications that discuss the relationship between intestinal flora and immunotherapy for liver cancer and further clarifies the potential relationship between intestinal flora and immunotherapy for liver cancer.

RESUMO

Microblood perfusion of isolated single umbilical artery (ISUA) foetus placenta was evaluated using three-dimensional power Doppler ultrasound (3D-PDU). Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) protein expression in the placenta was also semi-quantitative and qualitatively analysed. Differences between ISUA and control groups were compared. 3D-PDU was used to detect placental blood flow parameters, including vascularity index (VI), flow index, and vascularity flow index (VFI), in 58 foetuses in the ISUA group and 77 normal foetuses in the control group. Immunohistochemistry and polymerase chain reaction were employed to analyse the VEGF expression in placental tissues of 26 foetuses in the ISUA group and 26 foetuses in the control group. The control group exhibited higher VI and VFI than the ISUA group (p < 0.05). Meanwhile, the ISUA group showed a higher positivity rate of VEGF protein expression than the control group (χ2=28.013, p˂0.001). The ISUA group also presented a higher VEGF mRNA protein expression than the control group (p˂0.001). 3D-PDU can be used to quantitatively analyse microblood perfusion of the placenta and provide an objective assessment of ISUA foetuses.Impact statementWhat is already known on this subject? Colour Doppler flow can be used to evaluate placental and maternal circulation and remains an ideal method for evaluating high-risk placental function. Three-dimensional power Doppler ultrasound (3D-PDU) can be used to quantify blood vessels and blood flow in placental parenchyma via the measurement of the amplitude of blood vessels and blood flow in normal foetuses, respectively. What do the results of this study add? 3D-PDU can be used to quantitatively analyse micro blood perfusion of the placenta and conduct an objective assessment of isolated single umbilical artery foetuses. The isolated single umbilical artery foetuses exhibited a higher positivity rate of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) protein expression and higher VEGF mRNA protein expression than the normal foetuses. What are the implication of these findings for clinical practice and/or further research? The study provides a reliable basis for maternal-foetal monitoring during pregnancy in the isolated single umbilical artery foetuses. Objective assessment of the occurrence and development of foetuses with isolated single umbilical artery was performed.

RESUMO

To explore the quality consistency evaluation method for multi-component traditional Chinese medicine and establish a dissolution evaluation method suitable for the characteristics of multi-component Chinese patent medicine, this study discussed the characteristics and advantages of the flow-through cell method in the dissolution evaluation of Chinese patent medicine by comparing the impact of the small cup method and the flow-through cell method on the dissolution behavior of water-soluble and lipid-soluble major active components of Danshen Tablets. Dissolution tests were performed using the small cup method as described in the 2020 edition of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia and the newly introduced flow-through cell method(closed-loop method) with water solution containing 0.5% SDS as dissolution medium. Cumulative dissolution curves of the water-soluble component salvianolic acid B and the lipid-soluble component tanshinone Ⅱ_A in Danshen Tablets were plotted, and fitting and similarity analysis of the dissolution models was conducted to identify the characteristics and advantages of the flow-through cell method. For the small cup method, 150 mL of water containing 0.5% SDS was used as the dissolution medium, with a rotation speed of 75 r·min~(-1) and a temperature of(37±0.5) ℃, and 3 mL of samples were taken at 15, 30 min, 1, 2, and 4 h, with fresh dissolution medium added at the same temperature and volume. For the flow-through cell method, a closed-loop system was used. Danshen Tablets were placed in the flow-through cell with approximately 6.7 g of glass beads, and 150 mL of water containing 0.5% SDS was used as the dissolution medium. The flow rate was set at 20 mL·min~(-1), and the temperature and sampling were the same as the small cup method. The results showed that compared with the small cup method, the flow-through cell method had stronger discriminative power and higher sensitivity in distinguishing the dissolution behavior of the two components, and could better reflect the differences in formulation quality, especially for water-insoluble lipid-soluble components. Given that there were no essential differences in the in vitro release kinetics between the two methods, the flow-through cell method could not only replace the traditional small cup method but also better guide the formulation development and identify quality issues of formulations.

RESUMO

To explore the stability characteristics of ß-nicotinamide mononucleotide(NMN) and provide data support for NMN production, preparation, and related product development, this study established a simple HPLC content determination method for NMN in simple substrate and investigated the degradation behavior, degradation products, and degradation kinetics of NMN under various chemical, physical, and biological conditions. The HPLC method employed a Welch Xtimate AQ-C_(18) column(4.6 mm×250 mm, 5 µm), a detection wavelength of 266 nm, a column temperature of 30 ℃, a flow rate of 1.0 mL·min~(-1), an injection volume of 5 µL, and a mobile phase consisting of methanol(A) and a 10 mmol·L~(-1) ammonium formate aqueous solution(B) with a gradient elution(0-6.7 min, 0-4% A; 6.7-13 min, 4%-18% A; 13-14.2 min, 18% A; 14.2-15 min, 18%-0 A; 15-22 min, 0 A). This method provided good separation between NMN and potential impurities and degradation products, and had a wide linear range, short analysis time, good durability, high accuracy, an average sample recovery rate of 98.71%, and an RSD of 1.2%. The instrument precision had an RSD of 0.26%, and the linearity within the examined range was excellent(R~2≥0.999 9). This method can be applied for NMN content determination in simple substrate. The degradation process of NMN in aqueous solution followed apparent first-order kinetics, with the degradation rate primarily influenced by high temperature and pH. NMN was more stable in low-temperature, neutral, or weakly acidic/alkaline environments. Strong acids or strong alkalis could accelerate its degradation, and its degradation rate was less affected by pepsin and trypsin. In an aqueous solution at room temperature, it followed the kinetic equation lg C_t=0.005 7t + 4.817 2, with t_(0.9) and t_(1/2) values of 95.58, 860.26 h, respectively. The results suggest that pH and temperature are the main factors affecting the stability of NMN in aqueous solution, and low temperature, moisture protection, and a weakly acidic environment are more conducive to the storage and application of NMN and its products.

RESUMO

Herein we report an adaptive, achiral trithiourea molecular cage and its conformational and stereodynamics toward tricarboxylate anion binding. The cage was readily synthesized in four steps with a 44% yield for the irreversible cage-forming reaction. It possesses a flexible conformation and strongly binds 1,3,5-benzene tricarboxylate by forming a sandwich-like inclusion complex, with an affinity up to 106 M-1 in acetonitrile. Upon binding, the cage is locked in a twisted helical conformation. By incorporation of three chiral arms on the guest, a gear-like complex dominant in one given helical sense was produced. Due to the steric crowding in the helical grooves, a small change of methyl to ethyl on guest caused a striking difference on binding and chiral induction. The system thus represents a rare example of chiral induction on a flexible, achiral host and provides a decoupled model that the generation of a racemate and following chiral discrimination can be individually probed.

RESUMO

The insect pathogenic fungus, Metarhizium anisopliae is a commercialized microbial agent used in biological control efforts targeting a diverse range of agricultural and other insect pests. The second step in the synthesis of a group of M. anisopliae α-pyrone diterpenoids (termed subglutinols) involves the activity of a prenyltransferase family geranylgeranyl diphosphate synthase (product of the subD/MaGGPPS5 gene). Here, we show that targeted gene disruption of MaGGPPS5 results in earlier conidial germination and faster greater vegetative growth compared to the wild type (WT) parent and complemented strains. In addition, insect bioassays revealed that the ΔMaGGPPS5 mutant strain displayed significantly increased virulence, with a ~50% decrease in the mean lethal time (LT50 , from 6 to 3 days) to kill (50% of) target insects, and an ~15-40-fold decrease in the mean lethal dose (LC50 ). Metabolite profiling indicated increased accumulation in the ΔMaGGPPS5 mutant of select subglutinols (A, B and C) and destruxins (A, A2, B and B2), the latter a set of fungal secondary metabolites that act as insect toxins, with a concomitant loss of production of subglutinol 'analogue 45'. These data suggest that the increased virulence phenotype seen for the ΔMaGGPPS5 strain can, at least in part, be attributed to a combination of faster growth and increased insect toxin production, linking the production of two different secondary metabolite pathways, and represent a novel approach for the screening of isolates with enhanced virulence via modulation of terpenoid secondary metabolite biosynthesis.

RESUMO

Certifying quantum measurements is increasingly important for foundational insights in quantum information science. Here, we report an experimental certification of unknown quantum measurements in a semi-device-independent setting. For the first time, we experimentally demonstrate that genuine three-outcome positive operator-valued measures (POVMs) can be certified under the assumption of a limited overlap between the prepared quantum states. The generalized quantum measurements are realized through discrete-time quantum walk and our experimental results clearly show that three-outcome POVMs can be certified even in the presence of noise. Finally, we experimentally investigate that optimal POVMs for performing unambiguous state discrimination can be self-tested. Our work opens new avenues for robust certification of quantum systems in the prepare-and-measure scenario.

RESUMO

As one of the natural nucleobases, guanine has attracted increasing interest in molecular self-assembly science because of its abundant interaction sites and high electron cloud density. Guanines, guanine derivatives, and guanine-rich DNA sequence are able to self-assemble into versatile aggregate structures by the means of hydrogen bonds and π-π, ion-dipole, solvophobic, and electrostatic interactions. Recent advances have shown that many guanine analogue-based (G-based) luminescent aggregates exhibit promising applications for fluorescent and chemiluminescent sensing and circularly polarized luminescence (CPL). This perspective summarizes the state-of-art strategies for constructing G-based assemblies and presents representative examples for luminescence functions. Finally, the inspirations are provided for exploiting unique G-based systems and luminescent G-based assemblies.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Hypertension is the fifth chronic disease causing death worldwide. The early prognosis and diagnosis are critical in the hypertension care process. Inspired by human philosophy, CBR is an empirical knowledge reasoning method for early detection and intervention of hypertension by only reusing electronic health records. However, the traditional similarity calculation method often ignores the internal characteristics and potential information of medical examination data. METHODS: In this paper, we first calculate the weights of input attributes by a random forest algorithm. Then, the risk value of hypertension from each medical examination can be evaluated according to the input data and the attribute weights. By fitting the risk values into a risk curve of hypertension, we calculate the similarity between different community residents, and obtain the most similar case according to the similarity. Finally, the diagnosis and treatment protocol of the new case can be given. RESULTS: The experiment data comes from the medical examination of Tianqiao Community (Tongling City, Anhui Province, China) from 2012 to 2021. It contains 4143 community residents and 43,676 medical examination records. We first discuss the effect of the influence factor and the decay factor on similarity calculation. Then we evaluate the performance of the proposed FDA-CBR algorithm against the GRA-CBR algorithm and the CS-CBR algorithm. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm is highly efficient and accurate. CONCLUSIONS: The experiment results show that the proposed FDA-CBR algorithm can effectively describe the variation tendency of the risk value and always find the most similar case. The accuracy of FDA-CBR algorithm is higher than GRA-CBR algorithm and CS-CBR algorithm, increasing by 9.94 and 16.41%, respectively.

RESUMO

The extraordinary properties of biological materials often result from their sophisticated hierarchical structures. Through multilevel and cross-scale structural designs, biological materials offset the weakness of their individual building blocks and enhance performance at multiple length scales to match the multifunctional needs of organisms. One essential merit of hierarchical structure is that it can optimize the interfacial features of the "building blocks" at different length scales, from the molecular level to the macroscale. Understanding the roles of biological material interfaces (BMIs) on the determination of properties and functions of biological materials has become a growing interdisciplinary research area in recent years. A pivotal aim of these studies is to use BMIs as inspiration for developing bioinspired and biomimetic materials and devices with advanced structures and functions. Given these considerations, this review aims to comprehensively discuss the structure-property-function relationships of BMIs in nature. We particularly focus on the discussion of BMIs and their inspired materials from mechanical and optical perspectives because these two directions are the most well-investigated and closely related. The challenges and directions of design and fabrication of BMI-inspired mechanical and optical materials are also discussed. This review is expected to garner interest from advanced material communities as well as environmental, nanotechnology, food processing, and engineering fields.

RESUMO

The heat-induced self-assembly of silk fibroin (SF) is studied by combing fluorescence assessment, infrared nanospectroscopy, wide-angle X-ray scattering, and Derjaguin-Muller-Toporov coupled with atomic force microscopy. Several fundamental issues regarding the formation, structure, and mechanical performance of silk nanofibrils (SNFs) under heat-induced self-assembly are discussed. Accordingly, SF in aqueous solution is rod-like in shape and not micellar. The formation of SNFs occurs through nucleation-dependent aggregation, but the assembly period is variable and irregular. SF shows inherent fractal growth, and this trend is critical for the short-term assembly. The long-term assembly of SF, however, mainly involves an elongation growth process. SNFs produced by different methods, such as ethanol treatment and heat incubation, have similar secondary structure and mechanical properties. These investigations improve the in-depth understanding of fundamental issues related to self-assembly of SNFs, and thus provide inspiration and guidance in designing of silk nanomaterials.

RESUMO

The marine phycosphere harbors unique cross-kingdom associations with ecological relevance. During investigating the diversity of phycosphere microbiota of marine harmful algal blooms dinoflagellates, a faint yellow-pigmented bacterium, designated as strain LZ-8, was isolated from paralytic shellfish poisoning toxin-producing dinoflagellate Alexandrium catenella LZT09. The new isolate appeared to have growth-promoting potential toward its algal host. Molecular analysis using 16S rRNA gene, housekeeping rpoD gene and whole-genome sequence comparison indicated that strain LZ-8T was a novel gammaproteobacterium of the family Alteromonadaceae. The major fatty acids of strain LZ-8T were C16:0, C18:1 ω9c, C12:0 3-OH, summed feature 3, C16:1 ω9c, C12:0 and summed feature 9. The major isoprenoid quinone was Q-9. Polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, unidentified phospholipid, two unidentified aminolipids and six unidentified polar lipids. The genomic DNA G+C content was 57.36 mol%. Based on genome sequencing, several biosynthetic gene clusters responsible for bacterial biosynthesis of carotenoids and siderophores that may involve in algae-bacterial interactions were identified in the genome of strain LZ-8T. The polyphasic characterization indicated that strain LZ-8T represents a novel Marinobacter species. The name Marinobacter alexandrii sp. nov., type strain LZ-8T (= CCTCC AB 2018386T = KCTC 72198T) is proposed.

RESUMO

Vascular rings (VRs) are defined as congenital abnormalities of the aortic arch and its branches. VR can form a ring that may compress the esophagus and trachea, which likely result in feeding difficulties and respiratory distress. Physicians performing fetal echocardiography are knowledgeable about VRS and can provide this information to pediatric cardiothoracic surgeons. However, VRs are rare and can be missed. The three vessels and trachea (3VT) view used to diagnose VRs has been reported in the literature multiple times but in a small series. We diagnosed three cases of VRs using high-definition (HD) flow render mode and spatiotemporal image correlation (STIC). The composition of the VRs and vessel connections were shown more intuitively. This article reports our experience of the following related cases. In addition, postnatal imaging features of VRs were also evaluated.

RESUMO

In this study, a magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) method coupled with High-Performance Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) for the determination of illegal basic dyes in food samples was developed and validated. This method was based on Magnetic sulfonated reduced graphene oxide (M-S-RGO), which was sensitive and selective to analytes with structure of multiaromatic rings and negatively charged ions. Several factors affecting MSPE efficiency such as pH and adsorption time were optimized. Under the optimum conditions, the calibration curves exhibited good linearity, ranging from 5 to 60 µg/g with correlation coefficients >0.9950. The limits of detection of 16 basic dyes were in the range of 0.01-0.2 µg/L. The recoveries ranged from 70% to 110% with RSD% < 10%. The results indicate that M-S-RGO is an efficient and selective adsorbent for the extraction and cleanup of basic dyes. Due to the MSPE procedures, matrix effect and interference were eliminated in the analysis of HPLC-MS/MS without the matrix-matched standards. Thus, validation data showed that the proposed MSPE-HPLC-MS/MS method was rapid, efficient, selective, and sensitive for the determination of illegal basic dyes in foods.
