RESUMO

Though there are studies to show protective effect of glutathione against neurotoxicity and nephrotoxicity, the present study was designed to investigate the cardio protective effect of glutathione against isoproterenol induced myocardial infarction in rats by demonstrating the changes in serum cardiac markers, antioxidant enzymes and ECG changes. Wistar male rats were randomly divided into four groups namely control (GI), glutathione (GII), isoproterenol (GIII) and glutathione + isoproterenol treated (GIV). Glutathione treated group-received glutathione (200 mg/kg body wt) orally for 30 days. Myocardial infarction was induced in rats by isoproterenol administration (100 mg/kg) subcutaneously (sc) at an interval of 24 hrs on 31st and 32nd day cardiac marker enzymes, ECG, lipid peroxidation and antioxidant enzymes were assessed 24 hrs after the last dose of isoproterenol. Isoproterenol showed changes in ECG pattern, increase in serum level of cardiac marker, increased lipid per oxidation and decreased antioxidant defense system in heart. Glutathione pretreatment brings almost all the parameters to near normal level in isoproterenol-induced myocardial infarction in rats. The present study revealed that glutathione ameliorates cardiac damage in isoproterenol induced myocardial infarction in rats due to potent antioxidant, free radical scavenging effect, myocardial adaptation at cellular and organ levels.

RESUMO

The gas sensing characteristics of magnesium (Mg)-doped titanium dioxide (TiO2) films were investigated using a spray pyrolysis method. TiO2Thin films with varying Mg doping concentrations (0, 2.5, and 5 weight percentages) were deposited and tested for their gas detection ability to organic compounds such as ethanol, butanol, toluene, xylene, and formaldehyde at room temperature. Results disclosed that introducing Mg into TiO2enhanced the gas sensing characteristics, particularly for formaldehyde. Mg-doped TiO2film improved the change in electrical resistance during gas adsorption, leading to an increased response in formaldehyde detection. Additionally, XRD revealed the crystal structure, while Raman spectroscopy provided insights into molecular vibrational modes of the fabricated films. FESEM allowed for high-resolution imaging of surface morphology, and atomic force microscope assessed surface roughness and other properties of the as deposited samples. UV-Vis spectroscopy was utilized to examine the optical characteristics. The collective results strongly indicated that the introduction of Mg significantly improved the gas-sensing capabilities of TiO2films, making them highly promising for various gas-sensing applications.

RESUMO

The CD6 membrane-proximal scavenger receptor cysteine-rich domain (SRCR3) includes the activated leucocyte cell adhesion molecule (ALCAM) binding site. CD6-ALCAM mediates a low-affinity interaction and their long-term engagement contributes to the immunological synapse. Their ligation may play a dual function, facilitating stable adhesion between the antigen-presenting cells and T cells during the early activation phase and later in the proliferative phase of the immune response. This study explored the strength of the CD6 co-stimulatory effect and whether CD6 co-stimulation with its natural ligand ALCAM also contributes to the lymphocyte effector differentiation. It was found that CD6-ALCAM interaction in vitro induced a synergistic co-stimulation of normal human peripheral blood mononuclear cells, defined by Bliss analysis. CD6 co-stimulation enhanced the CD3 proliferative efficacy by 23-34%. Moreover, a fivefold increment in the CD25 molecules number with a distinct gene transcription profile associated with cell activation, differentiation, survival and adhesion molecules was observed over CD3 single activation. Additionally, CD6 co-stimulation in excess interleukin (IL)-2 promotes a preferentially proinflammatory response. Besides, a CD6 membrane-distal domain (SRCR1)-specific non-depleting monoclonal antibody (mAb) inhibited the induced proliferation in the presence of ALCAM, reducing interferon-γ, IL-6 and tumour necrosis factor-α production. These results suggest that CD6 co-stimulation enhances the intrinsic activity of the CD3 activation pathway and contributes to the T helper type 1 subset commitment, enhancing the IL-2 sensitivity of recent activated human lymphocytes. It supports the role of CD6 as a susceptibility gene for pathological autoimmunity leading to tissue inflammation, and its relevance for targeted therapy.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The principles of minimally invasive dentistry clearly tells us the need for clinically effective measures to remineralize the early enamel caries lesions. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to evaluate the remineralisation potential of four different remineralisation agents used quantitatively by surface microhardness and qualitatively by energy dispersive X ray analysis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Artificial enamel lesions were created on the buccal surfaces of 60 extracted mandibular second premolar. Specimens were randomly assigned to four groups (n=15) according to the remineralisation agents used: Group 1-Nano Hydroxyapatite, Group 2-Fluoride, Group 3-CPP ACP, Group 4-Chitosan 5mg. All products were applied according to the manufacturer's instructions and specimens were stored in daily renewed artificial saliva. Surface microhardness was assessed using Rockwell hardness test and change in mineral content was evaluated using Energy Dispersive X ray analysis. STATISTICAL ANALYSIS: One way analysis of Variance test and post-hoc Tukey test were conducted for multiple group comparison. RESULTS: There was remarkable remineralisation in Hydroxyapatite treated comparatively to the other three groups. CONCLUSION: All remineralising agents showed improved surface remineralisation. However complete remineralisation did not occur within 7 days. Nanohydroxyapatite showed the highest potential for remineralisation followed by CPP-ACP, Chitosan and Fluoride.

RESUMO

The experiment was carried out on 120 female white Wistar rats, to study the endothelio- and osteoprotective action of the combination of rosuvastatin with L-norvaline in the model of experimental osteoporosis. It was found that, after ovariectomy in rats, endothelial dysfunction of the vessels of the microcirculatory bed of bone tissue develops, leading to the appearance of osteoporosis, but the combination of the studied drugs prevents the decrease in the level of microcirculation in the bone tissue, thereby preventing the thinning of bone trabeculae and preventing the occurrence of microfractures in them.

RESUMO

The present investigation revealed that all the reactive dyes were degraded in chlorine mediated electrochemical oxidation. Titanium based dimensionally stable anode (DSA) was used for in situ generation of chlorine in the dye solution. All classes of reactive dyes (100 mg/L) showed a complete color removal at a supporting electrolyte concentration of 1.5 g/L NaCl and 36.1 mA/cm(2) current density. The chemical oxygen demand (COD) and total organic carbon (TOC) removals were from 39.5 to 82.8% and from 11.3 to 44.7%, respectively, for different reactive dyes. It can be concluded in general that the triazine containing higher molecular weight diazo compounds takes more time for complete de-colorization than the mono azo or anthraquinone containing dye compounds. The degradation rate of mixed dye compounds was affected by reaction temperature, current density, NaCl concentration and initial dye concentration. However, the initial pH of the dye solution ranging from 4.3 to 9.4 did not show significant effect on de-colorization. A complete color removal with 73.5% COD and 32.8% TOC removals were obtained for mixed reactive dyes (200 mg/L) at the end of 120 min of electrolysis under the optimum operating conditions of 4 g/L NaCl concentration and 72.2 mA/cm(2) current density.

RESUMO

This paper presents the results of the treatment of phenolic compounds containing wastewater generated from phenol-formaldehyde resin manufacturing, oil refinery and bulk drug manufacturing industries by electrochemical method. Experiments were conducted at a fixed current density of 5.4 A/dm2 using Ti/TiO2-RuO2-IrO2 electrode and an undivided reactor. During the various stages of electrolysis, parameters such as COD and TOC concentrations were determined in order to know the feasibility of electrochemical treatment. Adsorbable organic halogens (AOX) were detected at high concentrations during the electrolytic treatment of the effluents. However, it was observed that increasing the electrolysis time bring down the AOX concentration to lower levels. Energy consumption and current efficiency during the electrolysis were calculated and presented. The present study proves the effectiveness of electrochemical treatment for highly concentrated bio-refractory organic pollutants present in the industrial wastewater.

RESUMO

Primary adenosquamous carcinoma of the colon is an aggressive entity. We report a 41-year-old man with a combination of adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma of the cecum, treated by right hemicolectomy and ileo-transverse anastomosis. Postoperatively he received adjuvant chemotherapy. However, the tumor recurred at the original site within two months and thereafter the patient was lost to follow up.

RESUMO

In the experiment on the white Wistar female rats (222 animals), the osteoprotective effect of enalapril and losartan was studied on experimental models of osteoporosis and osteoporotic fractures. It was revealed that in rats after ovariectomy, the endothelial dysfunction of microcirculation vessels of osteal tissue develops, resulting in occurrence of osteoporosis and delay of consolidation of experimental fractures. Enalapril and losartan prevented the reduction of microcirculation in bone, which was reflected in slowing the thinning of bone trabeculae and in preventing the occurrence of these microfractures, as well as increasing quality of experimental fractures healing.

RESUMO

Colorectal cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer related deaths in Western countries and is becoming increasingly common in Asia. Rosmarinic acid (RA), one of the major components of polyphenol possesses attractive remedial features. The purpose of this study is to investigate the possible chemopreventive mechanism of action of RA against 1,2-dimethylhydrazine (DMH) induced rat colon carcinogenesis by evaluating the circulatory antioxidant status and colonic bacterial enzymes activities. Additionally, we analyzed the aberrant crypt foci (ACF) formation and multiplicity in the colon of experimental groups. Wistar male rats were divided into six groups. Group 1 was control rats, group 2 rats received RA (10 mg/kg b.w., p.o. everyday), rats in groups 3-6 received DMH (20 mg/kg b.w., s.c.) for the first 4 weeks. In addition to DMH, groups 4-6 received 2.5, 5, and 10 mg/kg b.w. RA respectively. The results revealed that supplementation with RA significantly reduced the formation of ACF and ACF multiplicity in DMH treated rats. Moreover RA supplementation prevented the alterations in circulatory antioxidant enzymes and colonic bacterial enzymes activities. Overall, our results showed that all three doses of RA inhibited carcinogenesis, though the effect of the intermediary dose of 5 mg/kg b.w. was more pronounced.

RESUMO

Germ cell tumors of ovary with elements of two or more subtypes are relatively uncommon. Sarcoid-like granulomas are seen in rare association with dysgerminomas, a subgroup of germ cell tumors of ovary, which are again less common. Fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) of the gonadal germ cell tumor, though not performed frequently, is of help when a gonadal mass does not require resection as in lymphoma which can be treated by chemotherapy. FNAC helps to diagnose this tumor and to rule out other lesions, including germ cell tumors. It is also an effective, rapid and reliable procedure for the diagnosis of germ cell tumors.

RESUMO

Electrochemical oxidation of resorcinol for wastewater treatment in the presence of chloride was investigated. Titanium Substrate Insoluble Anode (TSIA) coated with TiO2-RuO2-IrO2 was used as an anode and graphite carbon sheet was used as a cathode. The extent of resorcinol electrochemical oxidation was determined in terms of COD removal. The Box-Behnken second order composite design was used to study the effect of operating parameters such as initial pH, chloride concentration, initial concentration of resorcinol and charge input. The experimental values were in good correlation with predicted values, and the correlation coefficient was found to be good. The effect of current density on resorcinol oxidation, the AOX level during the electrochemical treatment and TOC removal were also studied for selected conditions. It has been observed that the extended electrolysis brings down the AOX concentration to lower levels. The maximum current efficiency was observed at higher resorcinol concentration, higher chloride concentration and increasing current density.
