RESUMO
BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Variants in ZFYVE19 underlie a disorder characterised by progressive portal fibrosis, portal hypertension and eventual liver decompensation. We aim to create an animal model to elucidate the pathogenic mechanism. METHODS: Zfyve19 knockout (Zfyve19-/- ) mice were generated and exposed to different liver toxins. Their livers were characterised at the tissue, cellular and molecular levels. Findings were compared with those in wild-type mice and in ZFYVE19-deficient patients. ZFYVE19 knockout and knockdown retinal pigment epithelial-1 cells and mouse embryonic fibroblasts were generated to study cell division and cell death. RESULTS: The Zfyve19-/- mice were normal overall, particularly with respect to hepatobiliary features. However, when challenged with α-naphthyl isothiocyanate, Zfyve19-/- mice developed changes resembling those in ZFYVE19-deficient patients, including elevated serum liver injury markers, increased numbers of bile duct profiles with abnormal cholangiocyte polarity and biliary fibrosis. Failure of cell division, centriole and cilia abnormalities, and increased cell death were observed in knockdown/knockout cells. Increased cell death and altered mRNA expression of cell death-related signalling pathways was demonstrated in livers from Zfyve19-/- mice and patients. Transforming growth factor-ß (TGF-ß) and Janus kinase-Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription 3 (JAK-STAT3) signalling pathways were upregulated in vivo, as were chemokines such as C-X-C motif ligands 1, 10 and 12. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings demonstrated that ZFYVE19 deficiency is a ciliopathy with novel histological features. Failure of cell division with ciliary abnormalities and cell death activates macrophages and may thus lead to biliary fibrosis via TGF-ß pathway in the disease.

Gastrodin, an anti-inflammatory herbal agent, is known to suppress microglia activation. Here, we investigated whether it would exert a similar effect in reactive astrocytes and whether it might act through the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) and sirtuin 3 (SIRT3). Angiotensinogen (ATO), angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) and type 2 (AT2) receptor and SIRT3 expression was detected in TNC-1 astrocytes treated with BV-2 microglia conditioned medium (CM) with or without gastrodin and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) pre-treatment by RT-PCR, immunofluorescence and western blotting analysis. Expression of C3 (A1 astrocyte marker), S100A10 (A2 astrocyte marker), proinflammatory cytokines and neurotrophic factors was then evaluated. The results showed a significant increase of ATO, ACE, AT1, SIRT3, C3, proinflammatory cytokines and neurotrophic factors expression in TNC-1 astrocytes incubated in CM + LPS when compared with cells incubated in the CM, but AT2 and S100A10 expression was reduced. TNC-1 astrocytes responded vigorously to BV-2 CM treated with gastrodin + LPS as compared with the control. This was evident by the decreased expression of the abovementioned protein markers, except for AT2 and S100A10. Interestingly, SIRT3, IGF-1 and BDNF expression was enhanced, suggesting that gastrodin inhibited the expression of RAS and proinflammatory mediators but promoted the expression of neurotrophic factors. And gastrodin regulated the phenotypic changes of astrocytes through AT1. Additionally, azilsartan (a specific inhibitor of AT1) inhibited the expression of C3 and S100A10, which remained unaffected in gastrodin and azilsartan combination treatment. These findings provide evidence that gastrodin may have a therapeutic effect via regulating RAS-SIRT3.

The decoherence-free subspace (DFS) serves as a protective shield against certain types of environmental noise, allowing the system to remain coherent for extended periods of time. In this paper, we propose two protocols, i.e., one converts two-logic-qubit Knill-Laflamme-Milburn (KLM) state to two-logic-qubit Bell states, and the other converts three-logic-qubit KLM state to three-logic-qubit Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states, through cavity-assisted interaction in DFS. Especially, our innovative protocols achieve their objectives in a heralded way, thus enhancing experimental accessibility. Moreover, single photon detectors are incorporated into the setup, which can predict potential failures and ensure seamless interaction between the nitrogen-vacancy center and photons. Rigorous analyses and evaluations of two schemes demonstrate their abilities to achieve near-unit fidelities in principle and exceptional efficiencies. Further, our protocols offer progressive solutions to the challenges posed by decoherence, providing a pathway towards practical quantum technologies.
RESUMO
High-dimensional quantum systems expand quantum channel capacity and information storage space. By implementing high-dimensional quantum logic gates, the speed of quantum computing can be practically enhanced. We propose a deterministic 4 × 4-dimensional controlled-not (CNOT) gate for a hybrid system without ancillary qudits required, where the spatial and polarization states of a single photon serve as a control qudit of four dimensions, whereas two electron-spin states in nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers act as a four-dimensional target qudit. As the control qudits are easily operated employing simple optical elements and the target qudits are available for storage, the CNOT gate works in a deterministic way, and it can be flexibly extended to n × n-dimensional (n > 4) quantum gates for other hybrid systems or different photonic degrees of freedoms. The efficiency and fidelity of the CNOT gate are analyzed aligning with current technological capabilities, finding that they have satisfactory performances.
RESUMO
PURPOSE: To retrospectively investigate the safety and efficacy of radiotherapy combined with chemotherapy for recurrent metastatic renal pelvic and ureteral carcinoma. METHODS: 109 patients were enrolled in this study, including 44 patients in the radiochemotherapy group and 65 patients in the chemotherapy group. Propensity score matching (PSM) was used to balance the baseline characteristics of the two groups by 1:1 matching. Kaplan-Meier method was used to calculate PFS and OS. Cox regression model was used for multivariate analysis. The side effects were evaluated by CTCAE v5.0 RESULTS: The median follow-up time was 14.5 months. Multivariate analysis showed that radiotherapy was a good independent prognostic factor for OS (HR: 0.327, 95% CI 0.157-0.680, P = 0.003). After matching, there were 40 patients in both groups, and the median PFS and OS in the radiochemotherapy group were longer than those in the chemotherapy group (PFS: 10.4 vs. 6.7 months, P = 0.035; OS: 43.5 vs. 18.8 months, P < 0.001). In addition, in the radiochemotherapy group, patients treated with radiotherapy before first-line chemotherapy failure had a longer PFS than those treated with radiotherapy after chemotherapy failure (median PFS: 15.7 vs. 6 months, P = 0.003). There was no significant difference in the incidence of grade 3-4 toxicities between the two groups (52.3% vs. 50.8%, P = 0.878). CONCLUSION: For patients with recurrent metastatic renal pelvic and ureteral carcinoma, radiotherapy combined with chemotherapy is well tolerable and expected to bring long-term survival benefits, and the benefits of early interventional radiotherapy may be more obvious.

INTRODUCTION: Immune factors are important antecedents in the pathophysiology of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). However, studies on the peripheral blood lymphocyte subsets changes in NEC patients among different Bell stages and in patients requiring surgery are scarce. METHODS: 34 infants with NEC and 33 age-matched controls were included. Peripheral blood was collected within 48 h after NEC diagnosis. Peripheral blood B and T lymphocytes subsets were detected by 12-color flow cytometry. Cell ratios were calculated, and their relationship to disease severity and their roles as indicators for surgery were assessed. RESULTS: NEC patients showed elevated percentages of unSwB cells (CD27+IgD+ unswitched memory/activated B cells)/B cells, SwB cells (CD27+IgD-switched memory B cells)/B cells, CD8+ T (CD3+CD8+ T cells)/T cells, Tem (CD45RA-CCR7-effector memory T cells)/CD4+ T cells, Tem/CD8+ T cells and decreased Bn (CD27-IgD+ naïve B cells)/B cells, CD4+T (CD3+CD4+ T cells)/T cells, CD45RA+ CCR7+ naïve T cells (CD45RA+CCR7+ naïve T cells)/CD8+T cells. Compared to NEC patients at BELL stage I + II, patients at BELL stage III showed increased percentages of SwB cells/B cells, antibody secreting cell (ASC, CD3-CD20-CD27high CD38high ASCs)/B cells and Tem/CD4+ T cells, and decreased percentages of CD45RA+CCR7+ naïve T cells/CD4+ T cells. The Receiver Operating Characteristic Curve analysis showed that the sensitivity of ASC/B cells ratio (0.52%) is 86.67% and the specificity of Tem/CD4+T ratio (5.22%) is 100%, indicating that NEC patients required surgery. CONCLUSIONS: The severity of NEC exhibits codirectional changes with the maturation of B and T lymphocytes, especially CD4+ T cells. The increased ASC/B and Tem/CD4+ T cells could serve as potential indicators for NEC patients requiring surgery.

ZnSeTe quantum dots (QDs) attract growing interest owing to their low threats to health and the environment. They are widely applied as emitters in displays and lighting devices. Previous findings have indicated that inorganic halides are excellent candidates for surface ligands on QDs. By incorporating inorganic halides during the synthesis process, the photoluminescence (PL) intensity and quantum yield (QY) of QDs can be significantly enhanced. However, the alteration of surface states in QDs induced by zinc halide modification and the mechanism of formation of trap-state radiative recombination processes have been less discussed. Herein, we proposed a synthesis strategy for ZnSeTe/ZnSe/ZnSeS/ZnS core/shell/shell/shell QDs modified with ZnCl2, and by comparing the morphology and elemental composition of QDs with different amounts of ZnCl2 added, we revealed the regulatory mechanism of nanocrystal growth in the presence of ZnCl2. QDs with modification of ZnCl2 exhibited broad yellow fluorescence, distinct from the intrinsic blue emission. Through spectroscopic and surface ligand analyses, we attributed this yellow emission to the intermediate state energy levels caused by the defects on the surface. Finally, we used the QDs with broad linewidth emission to fabricate a simple white-light-emitting diode (WLED). This work provided new insights into the role of inorganic ligands and the use of a single emitting material in solid-state lighting devices.
RESUMO
Dinuclear metal complexes are a promising class of compounds applicable to photoluminescence and catalysis. However, an understanding of the mechanism of the nonradiative decay process of dinuclear metal complexes remains very limited. Herein, the mechanism of the nonradiative decay process of dinuclear iridium(III) complexes (D1 and D2) and their mononuclear iridium(III) complex (M1) is elucidated by using density functional theory (DFT). Our results reveal that the nonradiative decay process occurs on a weak Ir-N bond and therefore results in metal-centered triplet excited (3MC) states. The deactivation pathways connecting the Franck-Condon region and the minimum energy seam of crossing (MESX) were further identified to be the determining step, which is the thermal deactivation pathways of 3MLCT â TS â 3MCâ MESX. The smaller energy barrier from the T1 minimum to the MESX state for D1 (9.48 kcal mol-1) and D2 (8.64 kcal mol-1) relative to that for M1 (10.95 kcal mol-1) plays a key role in observed weak emissions of D1 and D2 in the red region compared to that of M1. Moreover, by introducing the electron-withdrawing Cl atom at the para- or meta-position of the 2-phenylpyrimidine (ppd) moiety, a large energy barrier between the 3MC state and the T1 minimum is obtained. Our work not only provides the possibility of the nonradiative decay process of dinuclear iridium(III) materials, but also paves a promising way for reducing the nonradiative process and developing saturated efficient red dinuclear iridium(III) materials for broader potential application.
RESUMO
Chronic itch is a maladaptive and debilitating symptom in patients with allergic contact dermatitis (ACD), adversely affecting their quality of life. There is a lack of effective treatments for ACD-associated uncontrollable itch. In this study, we explored the antipruritic effects of baicalein (BE), a bioactive flavonoid extracted from the root of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi, and the underlying mechanisms in alleviating chronic itch triggered by diphenylcyclopropenone (DCP) in a mouse model of ACD. The ACD mice were intraperitoneally injected with BE (5, 30, and 60 mg·kg-1·d-1) for 7 days during the DCP challenge phase. The results showed that DCP-treated mice exhibited severe spontaneous scratching behaviors that was reduced after BE injections in a dose-dependent manner accompanied by inhibition of spinal astrocyte activation. We observed that the spinal astrocytic STAT3-LCN2 cascade plays a crucial role in controlling the activation of astrocytes in chronic itch. Intrathecal injection of the STAT3 inhibitor AG490 or Lcn2 siRNA significantly reduced scratching behavior and astrocyte activation in ACD mice. Moreover, BE markedly attenuated the increased phosphorylation of STAT3 (p-STAT3) and LCN2 expression in the spinal cords of ACD mice and in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated primary spinal astrocytes. Altogether, BE relieved chronic itch by suppressing the spinal astrocytic STAT3-LCN2 cascade. These findings provide a potential avenue for the management of chronic itch. Schematic summary of the main findings illustrating that BE alleviates chronic itch through suppressing the spinal astrocytic STAT3-LCN2 cascade. Specifically, BE suppresses the expression of p-STAT3 to inhibit the reactive state of astrocytes in spinal dorsal horn, and then decreases the expression of astrocytic LCN2 to alleviate chronic itch in ACD mice.
RESUMO
The interaction between microplastics (MPs) and cadmium (Cd) poses a threat to agricultural soil environments, and their effects on plant growth and rhizosphere microbial community functions are not yet clear. In this study, energy sorghum was used as a test plant to investigate the effects of two types of MPs, polystyrene (PS) and polyethylene (PE), at different particle sizes (13 µm, 550 µm) and concentrations (0.1%, 1% w/w), and Cd, as well as their interactions, on the growth of sorghum in a soil-cultivation pot experiment. The results showed that the combined effects of MP and Cd pollution on the dry weight and Cd accumulation rate in sorghum varied depending on the type, concentration, and particle size of the MPs, with an overall trend of increasing stress from combined pollution with increasing Cd content and accumulation. High-throughput sequencing analysis revealed that combined MP and Cd pollution increased bacterial diversity, and the most significant increase was observed in the abundance-based coverage estimator (ACE), Shannon, and Sobs indices in the 13 µm 1% PS+Cd treatment group. Metagenomic analysis based on the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) metabolic pathways revealed that 19 groups of metabolic pathways, including microbial metabolism and methane metabolism, differed significantly under combined MP and Cd pollution. Hierarchical clustering results indicated that Cd treatment and combined MP and Cd treatment affected the abundances of sorghum rhizosphere soil nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) cycling genes and that the type of MP present was an important factor affecting N and P cycling genes. The results of this study provide a basis for exploring the toxic effects of combined MP and Cd pollution and for conducting soil environmental risk assessments.

BACKGROUND: Lotus corniculatus is a widely distributed perennial legume whose great adaptability to different environments and resistance to barrenness make it an excellent forage and ecological restoration plant. However, its molecular genetics and genomic relationships among populations are yet to be uncovered. RESULT: Here we report on a genomic variation map from worldwide 272 L. corniculatus accessions by genome resequencing. Our analysis suggests that L. corniculatus accessions have high genetic diversity and could be further divided into three subgroups, with the genetic diversity centers were located in Transcaucasia. Several candidate genes and SNP site associated with CNglcs content and growth traits were identified by genome-wide associated study (GWAS). A non-synonymous in LjMTR was responsible for the decreased expression of CNglcs synthesis genes and LjZCD was verified to positively regulate CNglcs synthesis gene CYP79D3. The LjZCB and an SNP in LjZCA promoter were confirmed to be involved in plant growth. CONCLUSION: This study provided a large number of genomic resources and described genetic relationship and population structure among different accessions. Moreover, we attempt to provide insights into the molecular studies and breeding of CNglcs and growth traits in L. corniculatus.

Electrical control of magnetic properties is crucial for low-energy memory and logic spintronic devices. We find that the magnetic properties of ferrimagnetic CoGd can be altered through ionic liquid gating. Gate voltages manipulate the opposite magnetic moments in Co and Gd sublattices and induce a giant magnetic compensation temperature change of more than 200 K in Pt/CoGd/Pt heterostructures. The electrically controlled dominant magnetic sublattice allows voltage-induced magnetization switching. Both experiments and theoretical calculations demonstrate that the significant modulations of compensation temperature are relevant to the reduced Gd moments due to the presence of hydrogen ions at positive voltages as well as the enhanced Co moments and reduced Gd moments due to the injection of oxygen ions at negative voltages. These findings expand the possibilities for all-electric and reversible magnetization control in the field of spintronics.
RESUMO
PURPOSE: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is one of the most common functional injuries observed in trauma patients. However, certain trauma medications may exacerbate renal injury. Therefore, the early detection of trauma-related AKI holds paramount importance in improving trauma prognosis. METHODS: Qualified datasets were selected from public databases, and common differentially expressed genes related to trauma-induced AKI and hub genes were identified through enrichment analysis and the establishment of protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks. Additionally, the specificity of these hub genes was investigated using the sepsis dataset and conducted a comprehensive literature review to assess their plausibility. The raw data from both datasets were downloaded using R software (version 4.2.1) and processed with the "affy" package19 for correction and normalization. RESULTS: Our analysis revealed 585 upregulated and 629 downregulated differentially expressed genes in the AKI dataset, along with 586 upregulated and 948 downregulated differentially expressed genes in the trauma dataset. Concurrently, the establishment of the PPI network and subsequent topological analysis highlighted key hub genes, including CD44, CD163, TIMP metallopeptidase inhibitor 1, cytochrome b-245 beta chain, versican, membrane spanning 4-domains A4A, mitogen-activated protein kinase 14, and early growth response 1. Notably, their receiver operating characteristic curves displayed areas exceeding 75%, indicating good diagnostic performance. Moreover, our findings postulated a unique molecular mechanism underlying trauma-related AKI. CONCLUSION: This study presents an alternative strategy for the early diagnosis and treatment of trauma-related AKI, based on the identification of potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets. Additionally, this study provides theoretical references for elucidating the mechanisms of trauma-related AKI.

DNA variants represent an important source of genetic variations among individuals. Next- generation sequencing (NGS) is the most popular technology for genome-wide variant calling. Third-generation sequencing (TGS) has also recently been used in genetic studies. Although many variant callers are available, no single caller can call both types of variants on NGS or TGS data with high sensitivity and specificity. In this study, we systematically evaluated 11 variant callers on 12 NGS and TGS datasets. For germline variant calling, we tested DNAseq and DNAscope modes from Sentieon, HaplotypeCaller mode from GATK and WGS mode from DeepVariant. All the four callers had comparable performance on NGS data and 30× coverage of WGS data was recommended. For germline variant calling on TGS data, we tested DNAseq mode from Sentieon, HaplotypeCaller mode from GATK and PACBIO mode from DeepVariant. All the three callers had similar performance in SNP calling, while DeepVariant outperformed the others in InDel calling. TGS detected more variants than NGS, particularly in complex and repetitive regions. For somatic variant calling on NGS, we tested TNscope and TNseq modes from Sentieon, MuTect2 mode from GATK, NeuSomatic, VarScan2, and Strelka2. TNscope and Mutect2 outperformed the other callers. A higher proportion of tumor sample purity (from 10 to 20%) significantly increased the recall value of calling. Finally, computational costs of the callers were compared and Sentieon required the least computational cost. These results suggest that careful selection of a tool and parameters is needed for accurate SNP or InDel calling under different scenarios.

BACKGROUND: Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) are important biological indicators of the lung cancer prognosis, and CTC counting and typing may provide helpful biological information for the diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer. METHODS: The CTC count in blood before and after radiotherapy was detected by the CanPatrol™ CTC analysis system, and the CTC subtypes and the expression of hTERT before and after radiotherapy were detected by multiple in situ hybridization. The CTC count was calculated as the number of cells per 5 mL of blood. RESULTS: The CTC positivity rate in patients with tumors before radiotherapy was 98.44%. Epithelial-mesenchymal CTCs (EMCTCs) were more common in patients with lung adenocarcinoma and squamous carcinoma than in patients with small cell lung cancer (P = 0.027). The total CTCs (TCTCs), EMCTCs, and mesenchymal CTCs (MCTCs) counts were significantly higher in patients with TNM stage III and IV tumors (P < 0.001, P = 0.005, and P < 0.001, respectively). The TCTCs and MCTCs counts were significantly higher in patients with an ECOG score of > 1 (P = 0.022 and P = 0.024, respectively). The TCTCs and EMCTCs counts before and after radiotherapy affected the overall response rate (ORR) (P < 0.05). TCTCs and ECTCs with positive hTERT expression were associated with the ORR of radiotherapy (P = 0.002 and P = 0.038, respectively), as were TCTCs with high hTERT expression (P = 0.012). ECOG score (P = 0.006) and post-radiation TCTCs count (P = 0.011) were independent factors for progression-free survival (PFS) and TNM stage (P = 0.054) and pre-radiation EMCTCs count (P = 0.009) were independent factors of overall survival (OS). CONCLUSION: This study showed a high rate of positive CTC detection in patients with lung cancer, and the number, subtype, and hTERT-positive expression of CTCs were closely related to patients' ORR, PFS, and OS with radiotherapy. EMCTCs, hTERT-positive expression of CTCs are expected to be important biological indicators for predicting radiotherapy efficacy and the prognosis in patients with lung cancer. These results may be useful in improving disease stratification for future clinical trials and may help in clinical decision-making.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the feasibility of using noninvasive neuroimaging methods in visualizing and evaluating the clearance of the glymphatic-meningeal lymphatic system (GMLS) in patients with arteriosclerotic cerebral small-vessel disease (CSVD) and controls. METHODS: This observational study recruited patients with high-burden CSVD and controls (age 50-80 years). At multiple time points before and after intravenous administration of a contrast agent, three-dimensional (3D) brain volume T1-weighted imaging and 3D Cube T2-fluid attenuated inversion recovery imaging were performed to visualize and assess the clearance of the glymphatics and meningeal lymphatic vessels (mLVs). We measured the signal intensity ratio (SIR) of four regions of interest representing the glymphatics and mLVs at each time point. The clearance rate at 24 h (CR24h) and changes in the SIR from baseline to 24 h (∆SIR) were defined as the clearance function. The analysis of variance was used to evaluate the group differences after adjusting for hypertension. RESULTS: A total of 20 CSVD patients and 15 controls were included. Cortical periarterial enhancement and the enhancement of enlarged perivascular spaces in the basal ganglia were respectively observed in 11 (55.00%) and 16 (80.00%) CSVD patients, but in none of controls. All CSVD patients and most of controls (80.00%) showed cortical perivenous enhancement. Para-sinus enhancement was observed in all participants. CSVD patients showed lower CR24h and higher ∆SIR of the glymphatics and mLVs (all p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The impaired drainage of the GMLS in patients with high-burden CSVD could be visually evaluated using noninvasive neuroimaging methods with intravenous gadolinium-based contrast-enhancement. CLINICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT: Dynamic intravenous contrast-enhanced MRI could visually evaluate the impaired drainage of the glymphatic-meningeal lymphatic system in patients with high-burden cerebral small-vessel disease and could help to explore a new therapeutic target. KEY POINTS: ⢠Signal intensity changes in regions representing the glymphatic-meningeal lymphatic system (GMLS) can reflect the drainage function based on contrast-enhanced 3D-FLAIR and 3D T1-weighted MRI. ⢠Impaired drainage of the GMLS in patients with high-burden CSVD can be visually evaluated using dynamic intravenous contrast-enhanced MRI. ⢠This direct, noninvasive technique could serve as a basis for further GMLS studies and could help to explore a new therapeutic target in CSVD patients.

InP quantum dots (QDs) attract growing interest in recent years, owing to their environmental advantages upon applications in display and lighting. However, compared to Cd-based QDs and Pb-based perovskites, the synthesis of InP QDs with high optical quality is relatively more difficult. Here, we established a mid-synthetic modification approach to improve the optical properties of InP-based QDs. Tris(dimethylamino)phosphine ((DMA)3P) and indium iodide were used to prepare InP QDs with a green emission (â¼527 nm). By introducing zinc halides (ZnX2) during the mid-synthetic process, the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of the resulting InP/ZnSeS/ZnS core/shell/shell QDs was increased to >70%, and the full-width-at-half-maximum (FWHM) could be narrowed to â¼40 nm. Transmission electron microscopy clearly showed the improvement of the QDs particle size distribution after introducing ZnX2. It was speculated that ZnX2 was bound to the surface of QDs as a Z-type ligand, which not only passivated surface defects and suppressed the emission of defect states but also prevented Ostwald ripening. The InP cores were also activated by ZnX2, which made the growth of the ZnSeS shell more favorable. The photoluminescence properties started to be improved significantly only when the amount of ZnX2 exceeded 0.5 mmol. As the amount increased, more ZnX2 was distributed around the QDs to form a ligand layer, which prevented the shell precursor from crossing the ligand layer to the surface of the InP core, thus reducing the size of the InP/ZnSeS/ZnS QDs. This work revealed a new role of ZnX2 and found a method for InP QDs with high brightness and low FWHM by the mid-synthetic modification, which would inspire the synthesis of even better InP QDs.

BACKGROUND: Lymphomas involving the gastrointestinal tract may be manifested as anti-inflammatory tract bleeding, abdominal lymph node enlargement, or even perforation of the gastrointestinal tract. After organ transplantation, the likelihood of post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorders increases, and some rare infections may also appear. CASE PRESENTATION: Herein, we report a living transplant patient with talaromycosis marneffei (TSM) or Talaromyces marneffei (TM) infection with gastrointestinal hemorrhage and systemic lymph node enlargement, which presented clinically as lymphoma. CONCLUSION: This case is TSM in a kidney transplant patient, confirmed by lymph node biopsy and blood culture. The patient discharged from hospital successfully under the treatment of antifungal therapy and immunosuppressive therapy. Physicians should be aware that TSM can mimic lymphoma, and early diagnosis and treatment can benefit the outcomes.

Carbon dots (CDs) have emerged as an extremely promising platform for biological imaging, owing to their optical properties and low toxicity. However, one of the major challenges in utilizing CDs for in vivo imaging is their high immunogenicity and rapid clearance, which limits their potential. Herein, a novel approach for mitigating these issues is presented through the development of carbon dot nanocapsules (nCDs). Specifically, CDs are encapsulated within a zwitterionic polymer shell composed of 2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine (MPC) to create nCDs with a size of ≈40 nm. Notably, the nCDs exhibit excitation-dependent photoluminescence behavior in the range of 550-600 nm, with tunability based on the excitation wavelength. In confocal imaging, CDs display a strong fluorescence signal after 8 h of incubation with phagocytes, while nCDs show minimal signal, suggesting that nCDs may be capable of evading phagocyte uptake. Furthermore, imaging studies in zebrafish demonstrate that nCDs exhibit a retention time >10 times longer than that of CDs, with fluorescence intensity remaining at 81% after 10 h compared to only 8% for CDs. Taken together, the study presents a novel approach for enhancing the performance of CDs in in vivo imaging applications, offering significant potential for clinical translation.
