RESUMO

We report the case of a 56-year-old man who underwent removal of an intracranial epidermoid cyst 16 years ago. The cyst recurred 12 years later and was once again almost completely removed. A new recurrence 4 years later proved to be due to malignant change in the form of squamous cell carcinoma. Only 17 other cases of malignant change in an intracranial epidermoid cyst have been reported. Moreover, three other cases presented as primary intracranial squamous carcinoma.

RESUMO

The authors present statistics of 40 acoustic neuromas operated upon by micro-surgical technique in co-operation with oto-neuro-surgery. As regards clinical picture, all persons presenting with unilateral progressive sensoryneural deafness should be subjected to cochlear vestibular and radiologic examination. They advocated essentially two routes:--translabyrinthine approach for the tumours within the internal auditory meatus, --posterior fossa approach for the other tumours. They reported their results and analysed the major advantages of the microsurgical technique which diminish considerably the risk of this surgery, so that the functional result should be of first importance.

RESUMO

A 28 year old woman presented a syndrome of slow spinal compression evolving over four and a half years at the level C1--C2 vertebrae due to a solitary osteochondroma of the posterior arch of the atlas which was excised by laminectomy. Radiographys of the skeleton did not show the presence of other osteogenic tumours. This is the fifth case of solitary osteochondroma to be published. Elsewhere, in six cases out of 14, the vertebral lesion formed part of generalised exostoses.

RESUMO

A progressive paraplegia appeared in a 54 years old patient during a chronic eosinophilic leukemia. Myelography revealed a block of the spinal canal at T3. Laminectomy discovered an extramedullary hematopoiesis in the epidural space. The published literature is reviewed.

RESUMO

Three cases of painful ophthalmoplegia have been described in which symptoms suggesting a tumor of the orbit justified neuroradiological assessment. Phlebography in each case revealed stenosis of the superior ophthalmic vein in its third portion, and non-opicification of the cavernous sinus. Hirtz incidences revealed contralateral cavernous sinus opacification and venous drainage through the coronary sinus. These neuradiological findings helped to differentiate this syndrome from other affections which have similar signs and symptoms.
