RESUMO

The main aim of this study is to report basic knowledge on how a protein corona (PC) could affect or modify the way in which multifunctionalized nanoparticles interact with cells. With this purpose, we have firstly optimized the development of a target-specific nanocarrier by coupling a specific fluorescent antibody on the surface of functionalized lipid liquid nanocapsules (LLNCs). Thus, an anti-HER2-FITC antibody (αHER2) has been used, HER2 being a surface receptor that is overexpressed in several tumor cells. Subsequently, the in vitro formation of a PC has been developed using fetal bovine serum supplemented with human fibrinogen. Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), Nanoparticle Tracking Analysis (NTA), Laser Doppler Electrophoresis (LDE), and Gel Chromatography techniques have been used to assure a complete physico-chemical characterization of the nano-complexes with (LLNCs-αHER2-PC) and without (LLNCs-αHER2) the surrounding PC. In addition, cellular assays were performed to study the cellular uptake and the specific cellular-nanocarrier interactions using the SKBR3 (high expression of HER2) breast cancer cell line and human dermal fibroblasts (HDFa) (healthy cell line without expression of HER2 receptors as control), showing that the SKBR3 cell line had a higher transport rate (50-fold) than HDFa at 60 min with LLNCs-αHER2. Moreover, the SKBR3 cell line incubated with LLNCs-αHER2-PC suffered a significant reduction (40%) in the uptake. These results suggest that the formation of a PC onto LLNCs does not prevent specific cell targeting, although it does have an important influence on cell uptake.

RESUMO

Generating high-fidelity, tunable entanglement between qubits is crucial for realizing gate-based quantum computation. In superconducting circuits, tunable interactions are often implemented using flux-tunable qubits or coupling elements, adding control complexity and noise sources. Here, we realize a tunable ZZ interaction between two transmon qubits with fixed frequencies and fixed coupling, induced by driving both transmons off resonantly. We show tunable coupling over 1 order of magnitude larger than the static coupling, and change the sign of the interaction, enabling cancellation of the idle coupling. Further, this interaction is amenable to large quantum processors: the drive frequency can be flexibly chosen to avoid spurious transitions, and because both transmons are driven, it is resilient to microwave cross talk. We apply this interaction to implement a controlled phase (CZ) gate with a gate fidelity of 99.43(1)% as measured by cycle benchmarking, and we find the fidelity is limited by incoherent errors.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Evidence of the association between inorganic arsenic (As) exposure, especially early-life exposure, and blood pressure (BP) in adolescence is limited. We examined the association of As exposure during early childhood, childhood, and adolescence with BP in adolescence. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional study of 726 adolescents aged 14-17 (mean 14.75) years whose mothers were participants in the Bangladesh Health Effects of Arsenic Longitudinal Study (HEALS). Adolescents' BP was measured at the time of their recruitment between December 2012 and December 2016. We considered maternal urinary As (UAs), repeatedly measured during childhood, as proxy measures of early childhood (<5 years old, A1) and childhood (5-12 years old, A2) exposure. Adolescents' current UAs was collected at the time of recruitment (14-17 years of age, A3). RESULTS: Every doubling of UAs at A3 and maternal UAs at A1 was positively associated with a difference of 0.7-mmHg (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.1, 1.3) and a 0.7-mmHg (95% CI: 0.05, 1.4) in SBP, respectively. These associations were stronger in adolescents with a BMI above the median (17.7 kg/m2) than those with a BMI below the median (P for interaction = 0.03 and 0.03, respectively). There was no significant association between any of the exposure measures and DBP. The Weighted Quantile Sum (WQS) regression confirmed that adolescents' UAs at A3 and maternal UAs at A1 contributed the most to the overall effect of As exposure at three life stages on SBP. Mixture analyses using Bayesian Kernel Machine Regression identified UAs at A3 as a significant contributor to SBP and DBP independent of other concurrent blood levels of cadmium, lead, manganese, and selenium. CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest an association of current exposure and early childhood exposure to As with higher BP in adolescents, which may be exacerbated by higher BMI at adolescence.

RESUMO

This study presents the synthesis of a novel biobased epoxy monomer derived from vanillin and cystamine, incorporating imine and disulfide exchangeable groups within its structure. A series of epoxy-based vitrimers with two simultaneous exchange relaxation processes have been produced using this monomer. These exchange mechanisms operate without the need for any catalyst. Four different amine curing agents have been employed to achieve vitrimers with glass transition temperatures around 100 °C and excellent thermal stability. Through dynamic-mechanical analyses, thermomechanical properties and vitrimeric characteristics have been investigated, revealing remarkably fast stress relaxation at relatively low temperatures without significant creep below the glass transition temperature. Leveraging the dual exchange mechanism, the chemical degradability of these vitrimers has been explored through two accessible methodologies, and the material's reformation after degradation has been demonstrated in both cases. Furthermore, the material has been mechanically recycled, maintaining almost the same properties. Finally, these materials have been used to fabricate and recycle carbon-fiber-reinforced composite material and reversible adhesives, showcasing their promising potential applications.

RESUMO

High-dimensional quantum information processing has emerged as a promising avenue to transcend hardware limitations and advance the frontiers of quantum technologies. Harnessing the untapped potential of the so-called qudits necessitates the development of quantum protocols beyond the established qubit methodologies. Here, we present a robust, hardware-efficient, and scalable approach for operating multidimensional solid-state systems using Raman-assisted two-photon interactions. We then utilize them to construct extensible multi-qubit operations, realize highly entangled multidimensional states including atomic squeezed states and Schrödinger cat states, and implement programmable entanglement distribution along a qudit array. Our work illuminates the quantum electrodynamics of strongly driven multi-qudit systems and provides the experimental foundation for the future development of high-dimensional quantum applications such as quantum sensing and fault-tolerant quantum computing.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND IMPORTANCE: Cognard type V fistula (CVF) is a rare type of dural arteriovenous fistula characterized by spinal perimedullary venous drainage. Owing to the lack of pathognomonic findings, misdiagnosis is common. Patients often undergo multiple spinal angiograms negative for spinal vascular malformations. Digital subtraction angiography is the gold standard diagnostic tool. The preferred treatment option is endovascular management with embolization through a transarterial, transvenous, or combined approach. Other options include open surgery, stereotactic radiosurgery, or a combination of both. CLINICAL PRESENTATION: The patient from case # 1 presented with progressive weakness and hypoesthesia in the bilateral lower extremities, with urinary and bowel incontinence. The DSA identified a CVF fed by the meningohypophyseal trunk and a draining perimedullary vein. Embolization with 0.1 ccs of Onyx-18 was performed with complete fistula occlusion. The patient from case # 2 developed bilateral lower extremity weakness, diffuse numbness, and urinary incontinence. The DSA showed a CVF fed by tributaries from the ascending pharyngeal artery and posterior meningeal artery branches of the V3 segment, draining into a perimedullary vein. Embolization with 0.3 cc of Onyx-18 was performed with 100% occlusion of the fistula. A 1-year follow-up angiogram confirmed complete fistula occlusion. Both patients consented to the procedure. CONCLUSION: Even if a patient only presents symptoms of myelopathy, CVF should be considered. Herein, we present 2 cases of CVF with direct drainage into the perimedullary veins which presented exclusively with myelopathy syndrome and describe treatment with trasarterial embolization with Onyx.

RESUMO

Cerebral Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are presumed congenital anomalies of the blood vessels, which can increase intracranial pressure by uncertain mechanisms. We report the rare case of a 55-year-old male patient who complained about CSF rhinorrhea. Persisting CSF leakage prompted CT, which evidenced a bone defect in the right middle cranial fossa with protruding brain tissue. The diagnosis of a sphenoidal meningoencephalocele was made. Neuroimaging evidenced an AVM Spetzler Martin V. The lesion was targeted via an endonasal approach with resection of the herniated brain tissue and closure of the bony and dural defects. The postoperative course was uneventful without recurrence of the CSF fistula. Documentation of these cases is essential to come up with standardized therapeutical protocols and follow-up. Nevertheless, conservative management of the AVM and surgical repair of the bone defects is an appropriate approach in the first instance, depending on the morphology and characterization of the AVM.

RESUMO

Hyperbranched polymers and multiarm star polymers are a type of dendritic polymers which have attracted substantial interest during the last 30 years because of their unique properties. They can be used to modify epoxy thermosets to increase their toughness and flexibility but without adversely affecting other properties such as reactivity or thermal properties. In addition, the final properties of materials can be tailored by modifying the structure, molecular weight, or type of functional end-groups of the hyperbranched and multiarm star polymers. In this review, we focus on the modification of epoxy-based thermosets with hyperbranched and multiarm star polymers in terms of the effect on the curing process of epoxy formulations, thermal, mechanical, and rheological properties, and their advantages in fire retardancy on the final thermosets.

RESUMO

Ternary quantum information processing in superconducting devices poses a promising alternative to its more popular binary counterpart through larger, more connected computational spaces and proposed advantages in quantum simulation and error correction. Although generally operated as qubits, transmons have readily addressable higher levels, making them natural candidates for operation as quantum three-level systems (qutrits). Recent works in transmon devices have realized high fidelity single qutrit operation. Nonetheless, effectively engineering a high-fidelity two-qutrit entanglement remains a central challenge for realizing qutrit processing in a transmon device. In this work, we apply the differential AC Stark shift to implement a flexible, microwave-activated, and dynamic cross-Kerr entanglement between two fixed-frequency transmon qutrits, expanding on work performed for the ZZ interaction with transmon qubits. We then use this interaction to engineer efficient, high-fidelity qutrit CZ† and CZ gates, with estimated process fidelities of 97.3(1)% and 95.2(3)% respectively, a significant step forward for operating qutrits on a multi-transmon device.

RESUMO

As the number of qubits in nascent quantum processing units increases, the connectorized RF (radio frequency) analog circuits used in first generation experiments become exceedingly complex. The physical size, cost, and electrical failure rate all become limiting factors in the extensibility of control systems. We have developed a series of compact RF mixing boards to address this challenge by integrating I/Q quadrature mixing, intermediate frequency/LO (local oscillator)/RF power level adjustments, and direct current bias fine tuning on a 40 × 80 mm2 four-layer printed circuit board with electromagnetic interference shielding. The RF mixing module is designed to work with RF and LO frequencies between 2.5 and 8.5 GHz. The typical image rejection and adjacent channel isolation are measured to be ∼27 dBc and ∼50 dB. By scanning the drive phase in a loopback test, the module short-term amplitude and phase linearity are typically measured to be 5 ×10-4 (Vpp/Vmean) and 1 ×10-3 radian (pk-pk). The operation of the RF mixing board was validated by integrating it into the room temperature control system of a superconducting quantum processor and executing randomized benchmarking characterization of single and two qubit gates. We measured a single-qubit process infidelity of 9.3(3) × 10-4 and a two-qubit process infidelity of 2.7(1) × 10-2.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Paraoxonase-1 (PON1), a glycoprotein associated with serum high-density lipoprotein (HDL), has a central role in metabolizing lipid peroxides, exhibiting antiatherogenic properties. The polymorphism p.Q192R has been previously associated with coronary artery disease (CAD) susceptibility and clopidogrel response. PURPOSE: We aimed at investigating the association of PON1 p.Q192R with CAD and clopidogrel response in Colombian population. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The study was conducted among 163 patients diagnosed with CAD and treated with clopidogrel. The allele frequencies for the PON1 192Q and 192R alleles were determined in cases and Latin-American controls obtained from the public database gnomAD (n = 17,711). Response to clopidogrel was determined by assessing the platelet function using the INNOVANCE PFA-200 System. We determined the association between PON1 p.Q192R polymorphism, increased susceptibility to CAD and high on-treatment platelet reactivity (HPR) by using odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) on four genetic models. RESULTS: The allele frequencies for the PON1 192Q and 192R alleles were 0.60 and 0.40, respectively. The allele distribution was found to be statistically different from the control group and other ethnic groups. The allele 192R was positively associated with decreased susceptibility to CAD under a dominant model (OR, 0.58; 95% CI, 0.42-0.8; P < 0.01). We found no association between the polymorphism and HPR. CONCLUSION: We propose that PON1 p.Q192R is a potentially useful marker for CAD susceptibility in the Colombian population and lacks association with HPR under clopidogrel treatment.

RESUMO

The pure trifunctional glycidyl monomer from phloroglucinol (3EPO-Ph) was synthesized and used as feedstock in the preparation of novel bio-based thermosets by thiol-epoxy curing. The monomer was crosslinked with different commercially available thiols: tetrafunctional thiol (PETMP), trifunctional thiol (TTMP) and an aromatic dithiol (TBBT) as curing agents in the presence of a base. As catalyst, two different commercial catalysts: LC-80 and 4-(N,N-dimethylamino) pyridine (DMAP) and a synthetic catalyst, imidazolium tetraphenylborate (base generator, BG) were employed. The curing of the reactive mixtures was studied by using DSC and the obtained materials by means of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA). The results revealed that only the formulations catalyzed by BG showed a latent character. Already prepared thermosetting materials showed excellent thermal, thermomechanical and mechanical properties, with a high transparency. In addition to that, when compared with the diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA)/PETMP material, the thermosets prepared from the triglycidyl derivative of phloroglucinol have better final characteristics and therefore this derivative can be considered as a partial or total renewable substitute of DGEBA in technological applications.

RESUMO

A series of bio-based epoxy shape-memory thermosetting polymers were synthesized starting from a triglycidyl phloroglucinol (3EPOPh) and trimethylolpropane triglycidyl ether (TPTE) as epoxy monomers and a polyetheramine (JEF) as crosslinking agent. The evolution of the curing process was studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and the materials obtained were characterized by means of DSC, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), stress-strain tests, and microindentation. Shape-memory properties were evaluated under free and totally constrained conditions. All results were compared with an industrial epoxy thermoset prepared from standard diglycidyl ether of Bisphenol A (DGEBA). Results revealed that materials prepared from 3EPOPh were more reactive and showed a tighter network with higher crosslinking density and glass transition temperatures than the prepared from DGEBA. The partial substitution of 3EPOPh by TPTE as epoxy comonomer caused an increase in the molecular mobility of the materials but without worsening the thermal stability. The shape-memory polymers (SMPs) prepared from 3EPOPh showed good mechanical properties as well as an excellent shape-memory performance. They showed almost complete shape-recovery and shape-fixation, fast shape-recovery rates, and recovery stress up to 7 MPa. The results obtained in this study allow us to conclude that the triglycidyl phloroglucinol derivative of eugenol is a safe and environmentally friendly alternative to DGEBA for preparing thermosetting shape-memory polymers.

RESUMO

New thermosets from a triglycidyl eugenol derivative (3EPOEU) as a renewable epoxy monomer were obtained by an epoxy-amine curing process. A commercially-available Jeffamine® and isophorone diamine, both obtained from renewable resources, were used as crosslinking agents, and the materials obtained were compared with those obtained from a standard diglycidylether of bisphenol A (DGEBA). The evolution of the curing process was studied by differential scanning calorimetry and the materials obtained were characterized by means of calorimetry, thermogravimetry, thermodynamomechanical analysis, stress-strain tests and microindentation. 3EPOEU formulations were slightly less reactive, and the thermosets obtained showed higher Tgs than those prepared from DGEBA, since they had higher crosslinking density than formulations with DGEBA because of the more compact structure and higher functionality of the eugenol derivative. 3EPOEU thermosets showed good thermal stability and mechanical properties. The results obtained in this study allow us to conclude that the triglycidyl derivative of eugenol, 3EPOEU, is a safe and environmentally friendly alternative to DGEBA.

RESUMO

Conductive wires of sub-micrometer width made from platinum-carbonyl clusters have been fabricated by solution-infilling of microchannels as in microinject molding in capillaries (MIMIC). The process is driven by the liquid surface tension within the micrometric channels followed by the precipitation of the solute. Orientation of supramolecular crystalline domains is imparted by the solution confinement combined with unidirectional flow. The wires exhibit ohmic conductivity with a value of 0.2 S/cm that increases, after thermal decomposition of the platinum-carbonyl cluster precursor to Pt, to 35 S/cm.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Exposure to inorganic arsenic (As) from drinking water is associated with modest deficits in intellectual function in young children; it is unclear whether deficits occur during adolescence, when key brain functions are more fully developed. OBJECTIVES: We sought to determine the degree to which As exposure is associated with adolescent intelligence, and the contributory roles of lead, cadmium, manganese and selenium. METHODS: We recruited a cross-section of 726 14-16 year olds (mean age = 14.8 years) whose mothers are participants in the Bangladesh Health Effects of Arsenic Longitudinal Study (HEALS), and whose household well water As levels, which varied widely, were well characterized. Using a culturally modified version of the WISC-IV, we examined raw Full Scale scores, and Verbal Comprehension, Perceptual Reasoning, Working Memory and Processing Speed Indices. Blood levels of As (BAs), Mn, Pb, Cd and Se were assessed at the time of the visit, as was creatinine-adjusted urinary As (UAs/Cr). RESULTS: Linear regression analyses revealed that BAs was significantly negatively associated with all WISC-IV scores except for Perceptual Reasoning. With UAs/Cr as the exposure variable, we observed significantly negative associations for all WISC-IV scores. Except for Se, blood levels of other metals, were also associated with lower WISC-IV scores. Controlling for covariates, doubling BAs, or UAs/Cr, was associated with a mean decrement (95% CI) of 3.3 (1.1, 5.5), or 3.0 (1.2, 4.5) points, respectively, in raw Full scale scores with a sample mean of 177.6 (SD = 36.8). Confirmatory analyses using Bayesian Kernel Machine Regression, which identifies important mixture members, supported these findings; the primary contributor of the mixture was BAs, followed by BCd. CONCLUSIONS: Our data indicate that the adverse consequences of As exposure on neurodevelopment observed in other cross-sectional studies of younger children are also apparent during adolescence. They also implicate Cd as a neurotoxic element that deserves more attention.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Identified the polymorphisms of CYP2D6, CYP2C9, CYP2C19 and CYP3A4, within a rigorously selected population of pediatric patients with drug-resistant epilepsy. METHOD: The genomic DNA of 23 drug-resistant epilepsy patients and 7 patients with good responses were analyzed. Ten exons in these four genes were genotyped, and the drug concentrations in saliva and plasma were determined. RESULTS: The relevant SNPs with pharmacogenomics relations were CYP2D6*2 (rs16947) decreased your activity and CYP2D6*4 (rs1065852), CYP2C19*2 (rs4244285) and CYP3A4*1B (rs2740574) by association with poor metabolizer. The strongest risk factors were found in the AA genotype and allele of SNP rs3892097 from the CYP2D6 gene, followed by the alleles A and T of SNPs rs2740574 and rs2687116, respectively from CYP3A4. The most important concomitance was between homozygous genotype AA of rs3892097 and genotype AA of rs2740574 with 78.3% in drug-resistant epilepsy patients as compared to 14.3% in control patients. CONCLUSION: The results demonstrated the important role of the CYP 3A4*1B allelic variant as risk factor for developing drug resistance and CYP2D6, CYP2C19 SNPs and haplotypes may affect the response to antiepileptic drugs.

Results: Until 2016, there were 9 centers to perform EEG but this number increased to 18 in 2019. The number of EEGs performed was 858 until 2016 and 12,139 until 2019. There was an increase in requests for remote assistance and available equipment, covering more regions and a greater number of patients. There were 60% normal and 22.8% pathological findings where focal findings with secondary generalization represented the majority. In 17%, the results were returned for being incomplete and unspecific. Conclusions: One hundred eighty-eight pathological results were found up to 2016 and 2,747 until 2019. In the pathological findings, the most frequent in both periods was partial epilepsy with secondary generalization. There were no differences regarding sex and age groups in both periods. The challenges are the identification of epilepsy as an independent nosological entity, implementation of a teleconsultation system and further expansion of the coverage area.
