RESUMO

Distribution of force was studied for the distal, medial and proximal digits of 60 patients with rheumatoid arthritis during a cylindrical grip before correction of the flattened transverse arch of the hand and after its correction using a felt pad placed under the capitulum of the third metacarpal bone, and also before and after the placing of a wrist band. The cylindrical grip involving 22 degrees of ease of movement is the best indicator of hand function and deteriorates most (in approximately 80-90%) in cases of disease.

RESUMO

The mandibular canal was demonstrated on two stereoscopic radiographs which correspond radiographically to isolated films of the mandible. The central ray forms 20 degrees and a 50 degrees angle with the camperian plane on the radiograph. A reference pointer attached to the teeth is also reproduced on the film. The angle and direction of the central ray is computed on the basis of the diagram of the reference pointer. A defined adjustment therefore is unnecessary when the radiograph is being taken. The coordinates of the mandibular canal and the surrounding root tips are accurately computed with a programmable computer.

RESUMO

Study of the locomotor system shows that form and function interact here as well. This is one of the reasons why functional physiotherapy plays an important role in the conservative treatment of osteoarthrosis. Knowledge of the bio- and pathomechanics of the locomotor system is a prerequisite for useful kinesiotherapy. A special program for treatment is to be developed according to the four types of loading and the stages of joint destruction.

RESUMO

Four different test methods for the determination of the processing time of freshly mixed amalgam pastes were examined with the view to their utility, using 9 commercial powder alloys of different setting speeds. The tests used were a schematised stuffing test, close to the procedure used in practise, the cutting test and the compressive strength test after 10 minutes, both of which are still quoted as alternatives in the provisional standard DIN 13904, as well as a Hg addition test described by Jørgensen. The compressive strength test proved to be the quickest and most accurate. It is therefore best suited for routine examinations and general control and is recommended for inclusion in the DIN. It is necessary to set up calibration curves with the help of the stuffing test in order to estimate the processing time. These have to be separately estimated for filing amalgam and globular amalgam. The cutting test proved to be relatively inaccurate. The Hg addition test, though giving usable values, consumed too much time and material.
