ACR white paper on teleradiology practice: a report from the Task Force on Teleradiology Practice.

Teleradiology services are now embedded into the workflow of many radiology practices in the United States, driven largely by an expanding corporate model of services. This has brought opportunities and challenges to both providers and recipients of teleradiology services and has heightened the need to create best-practice guidelines for teleradiology to ensure patient primacy. To this end, the ACR Task Force on Teleradiology Practice has created this white paper to update the prior ACR communication on teleradiology and discuss the current and possible future state of teleradiology in the United States. This white paper proposes comprehensive best-practice guidelines for the practice of teleradiology, with recommendations offered regarding future actions.

The task force proposes a new model of multispecialty radiologists as an exciting and viable option to help build robust future academic and private radiology practices.

Managing hospital-radiologist relationships: proceedings of the Tenth Annual ACR Forum.

The annual ACR Forum brings together a multidisciplinary group to discuss a topic of present and future importance to radiologists. The 2010 gathering was dedicated to radiologist-hospital relationships. This article summarizes the conversations and details the advice of attendees to the ACR as to what actions might best benefit radiologists and the specialty.

The vast majority of US radiologists are affiliated with hospital-based group practices, making professional relationships between radiologists and hospitals one of the most crucial factors for a successful practice. However, tensions between radiology groups and hospitals have been increasing and have led to some well-publicized breakdowns. The ACR Task Force on Relationships Between Radiology Groups and Hospitals and Other Healthcare Organizations was charged to identify key factors affecting these relationships and to make recommendations and propose positive steps that could improve relationships and benefit radiologists, hospitals, and patients.
