RESUMO
BACKGROUND: Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are the most common mesenchymal tumors of the gastrointestinal tract. Rectal locations are very rare, and minimally invasive surgery is a good choice for the treatment of rectal GISTs. CASE PRESENTATION: Two women each had a mass located on the lower vaginal-rectal space as determined by transvaginal ultrasound (TV-US), pelvis MR imaging, and colonoscopy. The patients successfully underwent transvaginal excision. The spindle-shaped cells were found in pathological test. The immunohistochemical analysis showed that CD117 and Dog-1 were stained positively. These results confirmed the masses as GISTs. The postoperative period was uneventful without anal dysfunction. Two patients were received adjuvant treatment with imatinib after surgery. CONCLUSION: Transvaginal excision could be a minimally invasive and safe alternative treatment in the management of rectal GISTs in lower locations.

The aim of this study was to investigate the presence and prognostic value of Dickkopf-1 (DKK1) in epithelia ovarian carcinoma. The expression of DKK1 was determined in 56 epithelial ovarian carcinoma tissues, 35 benign ovarian cystadenoma tissues, and 12 normal ovarian tissues by quantitative real-time PCR and immunohistochemistry. The DKK1 mRNA level in the carcinoma tissues was upregulated (5.5+/-2.7-fold increase) compared with that in the normal tissues (p<0.0001). The mRNA level of DKK1 in the cystadenoma tissues (1.1+/-0.4-fold increase) was not statistically different from that in the normal tissues (p=0.486). DKK1 protein expression in the carcinoma tissues was also higher (89.29%) than in cystadenoma (65.71%) and normal tissues (58.33%) (p=0.006 and p=0.009, respectively). In epithelial ovarian carcinoma, DKK1 gene and protein overexpression was associated with advanced FIGO stage (p=0.007, p=0.004) and poor differentiation grade (p=0.027, p=0.010). Elevated DKK1 protein levels in ovarian carcinoma samples were associated with a poor outcome in univariate and multivariate analysis (p<0.0001 and p<0.0001, respectively). The study indicated that DKK1 maymbe a useful prognostic and diagnostic indicator for epithelial ovarian carcinoma.

Objective To investigate the association of interferon (IFN) γ gene polymorphisms and risk and prognosis of HPV cervical infection. Methods PCR-ASP was used for detectiug IFN-γ rs2430561 polymorphism in 179 HPV positive patients and 328 HPV negative normal controls. Results The frequency of A allele of 63.7% (228/358) was significantly higher than the frequency of T allele of 36.3% (130/358) in HPV positive group (P =0.045).The frequencies were 41.3% (74/179) in AA genotype and 14.0% (25/179) in TT genotype, women carrying AA genotype increased the risk of HPV infection compare with those with TT genotype (OR =1.784,95% CI:1.031-3.088,P =0.039).During follow-up,the rate of HPV positive again in AA genotype was 83.8% (62/74),while TT genotype was 20.0% (5/25).In the analysis of Kaplan-Meier,the cumulative HPV negative rates of AA,TA and TT genotype exhibited significantly different (P =0.008).The cumulative HPV negative rate of AA genotype was the lowest (1.1%-5.9%).Conclusions IFN-γ rs2430561 polymorphisms confer the susceptibility to HPV infection.Women with AA genotype exhibited higher risk of infection and inclined to be continuous status and recurrence after HPV infection.
