RESUMO

Urbanization, particularly in peri-urban areas, often results in critically transforming the regional land use and land cover (LULC). The increased built-up in peri-urban areas affects the regional accessibility of residents of urban clusters to requisite amenities and severely affects the regional environment, as observed in the case of Jammu district situated in the foothills of the Indian Himalayas. The present study is aimed at assessing the rise of urban sprawls in Jammu district over the past two decades and how the urbanization has affected the lag in the number of amenities corresponding to the urban growth based on qualitative parameters. Further, a parameterization scheme is developed to assess the amenities quality. A comparison is made with Indore, a planned smart city, to assess the status of urbanization and residential quality based on an amenity index. The study also investigates the indifferences observed in some of the climate variables in the urban and sub-urban settings of the Jammu district. The investigation is conducted through a multi-ring buffer analysis approach utilizing the land use land cover (LULC) products based on Landsat 8/7 satellite imagery of 2002, 2013, and 2021. The indifferences in the settings are analyzed using MODIS aerosol optical depth (AOD) and land surface temperature (LST) products. The analysis leads to determination of critical urban parameters including the urban area, density, and growth rate, revealing significant urbanization at 25-27 km from the city center. Significant indifferences are observed in urban and sub-urban areas indicating higher rise in LST and AOD, particularly in the recent decade. These investigations provide critical information to urban and climate solution authorities for planning and management, particularly in critically endangered areas.

RESUMO

In the present study, an investigation of the electronic excitation energy transfer between two p-type fluorescent semiconductors, F8BT [poly(9,9-dioctylfluorene-alcohol-benzothiadiazole] and TIPS-P [6,13-bis(triisopropylsilylethynyl)pentacene], has been carried out in a chloroform solution using steady-state and time-domain fluorescence techniques. The spectral overlap integral between donor (F8BT) emission and acceptor (TIPS-P) absorption is 2.04 × 1015 nm4/(M cm), and the corresponding critical transfer distance is 53.12 Å. In donor decay dynamics, at the lower acceptor concentrations, the observed results deviate from the Förster theory due to the combined effect of diffusion and energy migration. However, it does not exhibit energy migration and distribution for higher acceptor concentrations, and the system follows the Förster model of resonance excitation energy transfer (FRET). The higher value of the donor-acceptor interaction strength than self-interaction (donor-donor interaction) appears to be responsible for this behavior. Further, in acceptor decay, the appearance of the rise time and its decrease with the acceptor concentration confirms FRET from F8BT to TIPS-P.

RESUMO

A study of the electronic structure and magnetic properties of Co doped ZnO thin films synthesized by ion implantation followed by swift heavy ion irradiation is presented using near-edge x-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) and x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) measurements. The spectral features of NEXAFS at the Co L(3,2)-edge show entirely different features than that of metallic Co clusters and other Co oxide phases. The atomic multiplet calculations are performed to determine the valence state, symmetry and the crystal field splitting, which show that in the present system Co is in the 2+ state and substituted at the Zn site in tetrahedral symmetry with 10Dq = -0.6 eV. The ferromagnetic character of these materials is confirmed through XMCD spectra. To rule out the possibilities of defect induced magnetism, the results are compared with Ar annealed and Ar-ion implanted pure ZnO thin films. The presented results confirm the substitution of Co at the Zn site in the ZnO matrix, which is responsible for room temperature ferromagnetism.

RESUMO

Nasolabial cyst is a non-odontogenic, extraosseous, soft tissue cyst, commonly unilateral, located in the nasolabial fold. Bilateral nasolabial cysts are of rare occurrence. This case report describes the multimodality imaging appearance of bilateral nasolabial cysts with a review of literature.
