RESUMO

Cytokine release syndrome (CRS), immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome (ICANS) and neutropenia are common toxicities associated with chimeric antigen receptor T (CAR-T) cell therapy. The role of granulocyte colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) in CAR-T-cell-treated patients remains unclear. To explore the efficacy and safety of early G-CSF administration in patients with relapsed/refractory B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (R/R B-ALL) who were receiving autologous anti-CD19 CAR-T cells, we retrospectively collected and summarized clinical data to compare patients receiving G-CSF within 14 days (early G-CSF group) to patients receiving later or no G-CSF (control group) after their CART infusion. The results showed that there was no significant difference in the incidence and duration of neutropenia between the early G-CSF group and the control group (77% vs. 63%, p = 0.65; 8 vs. 4 days, p = 0.37, respectively). However, the incidence and duration of CRS were significantly higher in the early G-CSF group than in the control group (81% vs. 38%, p = 0.03; 3 vs. 0 days, p = 0.004, respectively). Moreover, early G-CSF application had no significant effect on the expansion and efficacy of CAR-T cells. In conclusion, our study suggested that early G-CSF administration did not reduce the incidence and duration of neutropenia but rather increased the incidence and duration of CRS.

RESUMO

Nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) addition, either individually or in combination, has been demonstrated to enhance plant productivity in grassland ecosystems. Soil bacterial community, which is the driver of litter decomposition and nutrient cycling, is assumed to control responses of terrestrial ecosystem structure and function to N and P addition. Using a high-throughput Illumina MiSeq sequencing platform, we conducted a 9-year field experiment of N (0, 5, 10, and 20 g N m-2 yr-1) and P (0 and 10 g P m-2 yr-1) additions in the Inner Mongolian steppes to elucidate long-term effects of N and P addition on soil bacterial richness, diversity and composition. We found that N addition reduced the relative abundance of Acidobacteria, Chloroflexi, and Nitrospirae, while increased that of Bacteroides. The results showed that the bacterial biomarker was enriched in P addition treatments, either individually or combined with N addition. Both N and P addition altered the bacterial community structure, while only N addition greatly decreased bacterial richness and diversity. More importantly, we showed that all of these effects were most significant in N3P treatment (20 g N m-2 yr-1 and 10 g P m-2 yr-1), implying that P coupled with a high-level N addition exerted a great influence on soil bacterial community. Structural equation models revealed that N and P addition had a great direct effect on soil bacterial community and an indirect effect on it mainly by changing the litter biomass. Our findings highlighted that severe niche differentiation was induced by P along with a high-level N, further emphasizing the importance of simultaneously evaluating response of soil bacterial community to N and P addition, especially in the context of increasing anthropogenic nutrient additions.

RESUMO

The allocation of biomass and nutrients in plants is a crucial factor in understanding the process of plant structures and dynamics to different environmental conditions. In this study, we present a comprehensive scaling analysis of data from a desert ecosystem to determine biomass and nutrient (carbon (C), nitrogen (N), and phosphorus (P)) allocation strategies of desert plants from 40 sites in the Hexi Corridor. We found that the biomass and levels of C, N, and P storage were higher in shoots than in roots. Roots biomass and nutrient storage were concentrated at a soil depth of 0-30 cm. Scaling relationships of biomass, C storage, and P storage between shoots and roots were isometric, but that of N storage was allometric. Results of a redundancy analysis (RDA) showed that soil nutrient densities were the primary factors influencing biomass and nutrient allocation, accounting for 94.5% of the explained proportion. However, mean annual precipitation was the primary factor influencing the roots biomass/shoots biomass (R/S) ratio. Furthermore, Pearson's correlations and regression analyses demonstrated that although the biomass and nutrients that associated with functional traits primarily depended on soil conditions, mean annual precipitation and mean annual temperature had greater effects on roots biomass and nutrient storage.

RESUMO

Anthropogenic eutrophication is known to impair the diversity and stability of aboveground community, but its effects on the diversity, composition and stability of belowground ecosystems are not yet fully understood. In this study, we conducted a 9-year nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) addition experiment in a semi-arid grassland of Northern China to elucidate the impacts of nutrients addition on soil fungal diversity, functional guilds, and co-occurrence networks. The results showed that N addition significantly decreased soil fungal diversity and altered fungal community composition, whereas P addition had no impact on them. The relative abundance of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and leaf_saprotroph were reduced by N and P addition, but P addition enhanced the abundance of saprotrophic fungi. Co-occurrence network analysis revealed that N addition destabilized fungal network complexity and stability, while P addition slightly increased the network complexity. Additionally, the network analysis of N × P interaction revealed that P addition mitigated negative effects of N addition on network complexity and stability. Structural equation modeling (SEM) results suggested that nutrients addition directly or indirectly influenced the fungal community structure through the loss of plant richness and the increase of perennial grass biomass. These findings indicate that in comparison to P addition, N addition exhibits a pronounced negative effect on soil fungal communities. Our findings also suggest that changes in plant functional groups under nutrients deposition are pivotal in shaping soil fungal community structure in semi-arid grassland and highlight the need for a better understanding of the belowground ecosystem dynamics.

RESUMO

In acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), hemorrhage, particularly intracranial hemorrhage, is the most common cause of early death. A central venous catheter (CVC) may provide a greater guarantee of safety and comfort to APL patients. However, CVCs have seldom been attempted in APL patients during induction therapy because of concerns about increasing the risk of hemorrhagic complications after this invasive procedure. To evaluate the hemorrhagic risk after CVC placement in APL patients during induction therapy, we retrospectively analyzed 95 newly diagnosed patients with APL from January 2010 to December 2022. Among these patients, 39 patients in the CVC group and 56 patients in the non-CVC group were included. Laboratory and clinical parameters of the two groups were collected and compared. There were no significant differences in median platelet, fibrinogen (Fbg), D-dimer, prothrombin time (PT), white blood count (WBC) and hemoglobin (Hb) between the CVC and non-CVC groups on the first day of the visit (day 0) and the following days (day 4, day 7, day 11, day 14, day 18 and day 21) (p = 0.382, p = 0.805, p = 0.456, p = 0.902, p = 0.901 and p = 0.097, respectively). The consumption of transfused platelets and Fbg was not significantly different between the CVC group and non-CVC group (5.0 vs. 4.5 units, p = 0.34, and 6.8 vs. 6.0, p = 0.36, respectively). The last day of platelet and Fbg transfusion was also not significantly different (21 vs. 19, p = 0.238 and 7.5 vs. 8.5, p = 0.684, respectively). The incidences of total hemorrhagic events and hemorrhagic death were lower in the CVC group than in the non-CVC group (17.9% vs. 37.5%, p = 0.04 and 0% vs. 16.1%, p = 0.01, respectively). The 30-day survival rate was not significantly different (92.3% vs. 82.1%, respectively, p = 0.145) for the CVC group compared with the non-CVC group. Our study suggested that CVCs did not increase the hemorrhagic risk in APL patients during induction therapy and that a CVC should be considered in this type of clinical situation.

RESUMO

The long-term physicochemical responses of aeolian sandy soil aggregates to different crop rotation patterns are poorly understood. Here, we collected soil samples from the 0 to 20 cm tillage layer of continuous maize crop and alfalfa-maize rotation plots situated on the edge of the Zhangye Oasis, Northwest China. These samples were analyzed to quantify the influence of both cropping patterns on the structure, carbon content, and nitrogen content of aeolian sandy soils. When compared with long-term continuous maize cropping, planting alfalfa-maize rotation system significantly increased the mass fraction of macro-aggregates with sizes of > 2 mm and 0.25-2 mm from 8.7 to 12.1% and 19.1 to 21.2%, respectively, but decreased the mass fraction of micro-aggregates (0.053-0.25 mm) from 8.1 to 6.2%. Further, there was no significant difference in the content of silt and clay particles between each system. The alfalfa-maize rotation increased the stability of aggregates from 32 to 37%, representing an increase of 15.6%. Soil organic carbon, inorganic carbon, and total nitrogen were mainly enriched in macro-aggregates with sizes of > 2 mm, and silt and clay fractions for both cropping patterns. Implementation of a rotation pattern increased organic carbon contents by 27.2%, 25.6%, 26.7%, and 27.6%, inorganic carbon contents by 14.4%, 4.5%, 53.3%, and 21.0%, and total nitrogen contents by 29.7%, 7.0%, 4.2%, and 50.0% in aggregate particle sizes of > 2 mm, 0.25-2 mm, 0.053-0.25 mm, and < 0.053 mm, respectively, when compared to continuous maize cropping. The alfalfa-maize crop rotation can therefore effectively improve soil aggregate composition and aggregate stability, alongside organic carbon content, inorganic carbon content, total nitrogen content, and their storage capacity. This system thus represents a soil cultivation technique that can increase the soil carbon sequestration capacity in the oasis zone of Northwest China.

RESUMO

Background: Patients with relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM) usually have dismal prognostic outcomes. Venetoclax, a selective inhibitor of antiapoptotic protein B-cell lymphoma-2 (BCL-2), demonstrates antimyeloma activity in plasma cells with t(11;14) or high BCL-2 expression. Objectives: This meta-analysis aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of venetoclax-based therapy in RRMM. Design: This is a meta-analysis study. Data Sources and Methods: PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane were searched for studies published up to 20 December 2021. Overall response rate (ORR), rate of very good partial response or better (≧VGPR), and complete response (CR) rate were pooled with the random-effects model. Safety was evaluated by the incidences of grade ≧3 adverse events. Subgroup analysis and meta-regression were performed to identify the causes of heterogeneities. All the analyses were conducted by STATA 15.0 software. Results: A total of 14 studies with 713 patients were included for analysis. The pooled ORR, rate of ≧VGPR, and CR for all patients were 59% [95% confidence interval (CI) = 45-71%], 38% (95% CI = 26-51%), and 17% (95% CI = 10-26%), respectively. The median progression-free survival (PFS) ranged from 2.0 months to not reached (NR), and the median overall survival (OS) ranged from 12.0 months to NR. Meta-regression showed that patients treated with more drugs combined or less heavily pretreated had higher response rates. Patients with t(11;14) had superior ORR [relative risk (RR) = 1.47, 95% CI = 1.05-2.07], ≧VGPR (RR = 1.71, 95% CI = 1.12-2.60), CR (RR = 1.86, 95% CI = 1.34-2.57), PFS [hazard ratio (HR) = 0.47, 95% CI = 0.30-0.65], and OS (HR = 0.30, 95% CI = 0.08-0.52) compared with patients without t(11;14). Most grade ≧3 adverse events were hematologic, gastrointestinal, and infectious related and were manageable. Conclusion: Venetoclax-based therapy is an effective and safe option for RRMM patients, especially those with t(11;14).

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Turner syndrome (TS) with leukemia is a complicated clinical condition. The clinical course and outcome of these patients are poor, so the treatment and prognosis of TS with hematological malignancies deserve our attention. CASE SUMMARY: Here, we report a case of a 20-year-old woman diagnosed with TS, primary myelofibrosis (PMF), cirrhosis, and an ovarian cystic mass. This is the first report on the coexistence of TS and PMF with the MPL and SH2B3 mutations. The patient was diagnosed with cirrhosis of unknown cause, splenomegaly and severe gastroesophageal varices. Additionally, an ovarian cystic mass caused the patient to appear pregnant. The patient was treated with the JAK2 inhibitor-ruxolitinib according to peripheral blood cells, although myelofibrosis was improved, the splenomegaly did not reduce. Moreover, hematemesis and melena occasionally occurred. CONCLUSION: Ruxolitinib may clearly reduce splenomegaly. Though myelofibrosis was improved, cirrhosis and splenomegaly in this case continued to worsen. Effective treatment should be discussed.

RESUMO

How the bacterial community structure and potential metabolic functions will change after revegetation in arid desert ecosystems is still unknown. We used high-throughput pyrosequencing to explore changes in soil bacterial diversity, structure and metabolic pathways, and the key driving factors along a chronosequence of 46-year Haloxylon ammodendron revegetation in an oasis-desert ecotone in the northwestern China. Our results indicated that establishment of H. ammodendron on shifting sand dunes significantly changed the structure of bacterial communities and increased their diversity and richness. The main dominant phyla were Actinobacteria (32.1-41.3%) and Proteobacteria (19.2-27.0%); in that, α-Proteobacteria (16.4-20.7%) were the most abundant Proteobacteria. Kocuria coexisted at different succession stage after year 0, and their relative abundance ranged from 3.8-9.0%. Principal coordinates analysis (PCoA) showed that bacterial community from the same revegetation site grouped together and generally separated from each other, indicating that significant shifts in bacterial community structure occurred after revegetation. LEfSe analysis identified unique biomarkers in the soil samples from seven sites. Moreover, PICRUSt analysis indicated similar overall patterns of metabolic pathways in different succession stage. Redundancy analysis (RDA) showed that total carbon, pH and total phosphorus were major abiotic factors driving the structure of bacterial communities, which explained 57.5% of the variation in bacterial communities. Our findings advance the current understanding of plant-soil interactions in the processes of ecological restoration and desertification reversal.

RESUMO

Soil aggregates are the material basis of soil structure and important carriers of nutrients. Long-term application of organic and inorganic fertilizers can affect the composition of soil aggregates to varying degrees, which in turn affects the distribution and storage of soil nutrients. We report the results of a 15-year long-term field-based test of aeolian sandy soil and used the wet sieve method to analyze the stability of water-stable aggregates, as well as the distribution characteristics of nutrients in different particle size aggregates. Our results show that long-term application of organic fertilizer (M3) and combined organic−inorganic treatments (NPK1-M1, NPK1-M2, and NPK1-M3) help to increase the amount of organic carbon, inorganic carbon, and cation exchange in the macro-aggregates, and the improvement rates are 92−103%, 8−28%, and 74−85%, respectively. The organic content of the fertilizers also promotes the formation of macro-aggregates, and the stability of aggregates increase from 0.24 to 0.45. In contrast, the application of inorganic fertilizers (NPK1, NPK2, and NPK3) has no marked effect on the formation and stability of macro-aggregates; the application of inorganic fertilizers can merely maintain the organic carbon content of the soil. Correlation analysis shows that the application of organic fertilizers and chemical (inorganic) fertilizers containing phosphorus and potassium can markedly increase the content and reserves of available phosphorus and potassium across all aggregate sizes, and there is a significant positive correlation between these parameters and the amount of applied fertilizer (p < 0.05). Aggregates of various sizes in aeolian sandy soils in arid areas have the potential for greater nutrient storage. Therefore, organic fertilizers can be used in the agricultural production process to improve soil structure and fertility.

RESUMO

Immunoglobulin light chain amyloidosis (AL) is an indolent plasma cell disorder characterized by free immunoglobulin light chain (FLC) misfolding and amyloid fibril deposition. The cytogenetic pattern of AL shows profound similarity with that of other plasma cell disorders but harbors distinct features. AL can be classified into two primary subtypes: non-hyperdiploidy and hyperdiploidy. Non-hyperdiploidy usually involves immunoglobulin heavy chain translocations, and t(11;14) is the hallmark of this disease. T(11;14) is associated with low plasma cell count but high FLC level and displays distinct response outcomes to different treatment modalities. Hyperdiploidy is associated with plasmacytosis and subclone formation, and it generally confers a neutral or inferior prognostic outcome. Other chromosome abnormalities and driver gene mutations are considered as secondary cytogenetic aberrations that occur during disease evolution. These genetic aberrations contribute to the proliferation of plasma cells, which secrete excess FLC for amyloid deposition. Other genetic factors, such as specific usage of immunoglobulin light chain germline genes and light chain somatic mutations, also play an essential role in amyloid fibril deposition in AL. This paper will propose a framework of AL classification based on genetic aberrations and discuss the amyloid formation of AL from a genetic aspect.

RESUMO

All-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) and pre-upfront arsenic trioxide (ATO) have revolutionized the therapy of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL). However, internal tandem duplication of FMS-like tyrosine kinase 3 (FLT3-ITD) mutations is associated with increased risk of relapse. The aim of this study was to analyze the prognostic impact of FLT3-ITD on APL patients who received remission induction with ATRA, idarubicin (IDA) and/or ATO, followed by ATRA plus ATO along with anthracycline, as consolidation therapy. A total of 72 patients newly diagnosed with APL were included in this study. 83.3% of the patients achieved complete remission (CR) after induction therapy. FLT3-ITD mutations were detected in 16 (22.2%) patients and closely related to bcr-3 PML-RARa transcript (P<0.001). The 5-year overall survival (OS) rate was 100% in both FLT3-ITDpositive and FLT3-ITDnegative groups, and there was no significant difference in 5-year event-free survival (EFS) between the two groups (78.3% vs. 83.3%, P=0.85). ATRA plus ATO and anthracycline-based chemotherapy achieved great outcome in newly diagnosed APL regardless of the FLT3-ITD mutation status.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the overview of thrombosis in myeloproliferative neoplasms(MPN) patients, and to explore the risk factors of thrombosis at diagnosis and during follow-up. METHODS: The clinical data of 388 MPN patients treated in our hospital were collected. The patients were followed up by outpatient and phone. The risk factors of thrombosis were analyzed by statistical methods. RESULTS: Among 388 MPN patients, 161 patients (41.49%) showed thromboses at diagnosis or during follow-up. Among them, 92.55% were arterial thromboses, 146 cases (96.27%) were complicated with thromboses at diagnosis, and 36 cases (11.46%) showed newly thromboses or progression of previous thromboses among the 314 received full follow-up patients. Age (P<0.001, HR:1.033, 95%CI:1.016-1.051), JAK2V617F mutation (P=0.037, HR:1.72, 95%CI: 1.033-2.862), hypertension (P<0.001, HR:2.639, 95%CI:1.659-4.197) and hyperlipidemia (P<0.001, HR:2.659, 95%CI:1.626-4.347) were the independent risk factors affecting thrombosis at diagnosis of the patients. During the follow-up, age (P=0.016, HR:1.032, 95%CI: 1.006-1.059) and previous thrombosis history (P=0.019, HR:2.194, 95%CI: 1.135-4.242) were the independent risk factors affecting the progression of thrombosis at different sites or on the basis of the previous thrombosis in the patients. CONCLUSION: Patients with advanced age, JAK2V617F mutation or complicated with hypertension and hyperlipidemia shows a higher risk of thrombosis at diagnosis, while the patients with advanced age or previous thrombosis history shows a higher risk of progression of thrombosis during the follow-up.

RESUMO

Long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) forkhead box P4 antisense RNA 1 (FOXP4AS1) has been determined to function as an oncogene in various types of cancer. However, the biological function and the underlying mechanisms of FOXP4AS1 in mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) remain to be uncovered. The expression and the associated clinicopathological characteristics and prognostic significance of FOXP4AS1 were explored in MCL clinical samples. The effects of FOXP4AS1 on MCL cellular behaviors, including proliferation, migration and invasion were analyzed using CCK8, crystal violet and Transwell assays. The downstream molecules of FOXP4AS1 were explored using bioinformatics analysis and dual luciferase assay. Our results showed that FOXP4AS1 expression was upregulated in MCL patients, and that the high expression of FOXP4AS1 was correlated with the unfavorable prognosis of patients. Functionally, while FOXP4AS1 downregulation inhibited proliferation, migration and invasion of MCL cells, FOXP4AS1 overexpression had promotive effects on these cellular processes. Mechanistically, FOXP4AS1 was found to act as a competing endogenous (ce)RNA for miR4235p to regulate the expression of nucleus accumbensassociated 1 (NACC1). The negative regulation of FOXP4AS1 on miR4235p compared to that of miR4235p on NACC1 was determined at the mRNA or protein levels in MCL cells. Moreover, an inverse expression correlation between FOXP4AS1 and miR4235p, and that between miR4235p and NACC1 was confirmed in MCL clinical samples. In addition, rescue assay showed that miR4235p upregulation or NACC1 knockdown abolished the promoting effects of FOXP4AS1 on MCL cell proliferation, migration and invasion. In conclusion, FOXP4AS1 promotes MCL progression through the upregulation of NACC1 expression by inhibiting miR4235p. FOXP4AS1 may serve as a novel therapeutic target for patients with MCL.

RESUMO

Biodegradable (Bio) plastic films are widely viewed as promising alternative products of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) films to minimize plastic debris accumulation and pollution in agroecosystems. Yet, this speculation indeed lacks of sufficient evidences. We conducted a landfill investigation on the aging characteristics of Bio and LDPE plastic films in maize field, and the effects on soil aggregate composition and carbon & nitrogen stocks. The degradation rate of Bio film was up to 41.1% while that of LDPE film was zero. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) showed that the crack formation of Bio film had a pronounced domino effect, and FTIR showed that old Bio film displayed an extra wide peak threshold ranging from 3000 to 3500 cm-1. Particularly, the abundance of microplastics was elevated with the increased plastic residues, and the increment mostly resulted from Bio residues. Critically, plastic residues significantly lowered the soil macro-aggregates (>0.25 mm) proportion, while increasing that of micro-aggregates (0.1-0.25 mm) in LDPE, and silt/clay fraction (<0.1 mm) in Bio respectively. They significantly promoted total nitrogen content of the aggregates with the same size, but decreased the organic carbon content, dramatically lowering the C/N. Therefore, we first identified the fate of plastic film residues in agroecosystems and revealed the serious deficiencies of Bio plastic film.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Prediction models for acute myeloid leukemia (AML) are useful, but have considerable inaccuracy and imprecision. No current model includes covariates related to immune cells in the AML microenvironment. Here, an immune risk score was explored to predict the survival of patients with AML. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: We evaluated the predictive accuracy of several in silico algorithms for immune composition in AML based on a reference of multi-parameter flow cytometry. CIBERSORTx was chosen to enumerate immune cells from public datasets and develop an immune risk score for survival in a training cohort using least absolute shrinkage and selection operator Cox regression model. RESULTS: Six flow cytometry-validated immune cell features were informative. The model had high predictive accuracy in the training and four external validation cohorts. Subjects in the training cohort with low scores had prolonged survival compared with subjects with high scores, with 5-year survival rates of 46% versus 19% (P < 0.001). Parallel survival rates in validation cohorts-1, -2, -3, and -4 were 46% versus 6% (P < 0.001), 44% versus 18% (P = 0.041), 44% versus 24% (P = 0.004), and 62% versus 32% (P < 0.001). Gene set enrichment analysis indicated significant enrichment of immune relation pathways in the low-score cohort. In multivariable analyses, high-risk score independently predicted shorter survival with HRs of 1.45 (P = 0.005), 2.12 (P = 0.004), 2.02 (P = 0.034), 1.66 (P = 0.019), and 1.59 (P = 0.001) in the training and validation cohorts, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Our immune risk score complements current AML prediction models.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the difference of clinical characteristics between young patients(age≤40 years old) and middle-older patients(age>40 years old) with the myeloproliferative neoplasms(MPN). METHODS: The clinical data (gene mutations, peripheral blood routine examinations, imaging examination and past history) of 269 MPN patients was collected and analyzed. RESULTS: In essential thrombocythemia (ET) group, the proportion of triple-negative type in young patients was higher than that in middle-older group, while the peripheral white blood cell(WBC) and platelets(PLT) counts in the first visit were lower. In polycythemia vera (PV) group, the total detection rate of JAK2V617F (80.65%) was lower than that of other research reports. Young patients with PV showed the lower JAK2V617F rate and lower WBC count, compared with the middle-older aged patients. Both CALR and MPL mutations were not found in PV patients. There was only 1 primary myelofibrosis (PMF) patient aged <40 years old. 91.67% of the patients merged splenomegaly and this rate was higher than that of ET or PV patients. It was found that there were a diagnosed familial MPN family and an undiagnosed family, and the youngest patient was only 8 years old. The second-generation gene sequencing detection for them was not carried out. CONCLUSION: Age is an important reference index in the assessment of risks. The MPN patients with different age and types show much difference in gene mutations, peripheral blood cell counts, thrombotic events and sizes of spleen. The onset ages of patients with familial MPN trends to be generational younger.

RESUMO

In the newly cultivated oases of northwestern China, the soil properties of farmlands with different cultivation periods show a high degree of spatial heterogeneity on the field scale. However, the irrigation water allocation at the irrigation district scale was based mainly on cultivated area but soil conditions were not considered, which resulted in the shortage or super abound of the irrigation water in the farmlands with different soils. A deeper understanding of the effects of soils on crop IWP and irrigation water requirement is an essential prerequisite to accurately assessing regional irrigation water needs and water-saving potential. Therefore, measurements were taken of the yield, irrigation water productivity (IWP), and nitrogen (N) uptake of maize grown in sandy soils (S1, S2), loamy sand soil (S3), and sandy loam soils (S4, S5) and subjected to three irrigation treatments (full, medium, and low irrigation) in an arid oasis farming system in northwestern China. The results show that the highest yield was obtained under full irrigation in sandy loam. Medium and low irrigation reduced the maize yield by 12.5-21.8% and 13.5-20.6%, respectively, relative to full irrigation, with the greatest decrease in sandy loam. Maize IWP ranged from 1.06-1.20 kg m-3 for sand to 2.27-2.58 kg m-3 for sandy loam and was influenced by soil properties but not irrigation treatments. Soil properties also influenced crop N uptake, with sandy loam having a significantly higher such uptake than loamy sand or sand. Under a conventional flooding irrigation pattern, reduced irrigation does not appear to increase IWP in well-drained sandy soils. Crop irrigation water requirement and IWP were mainly influenced by soil texture and fertility. Soil management to improving water productivity should be addressed. In agricultural water management, reasonable irrigation water allocation based on soil conditions should be considered.

RESUMO

Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. BCL2 apoptosis regulator (BCL2) and marker of proliferation Ki-67 (Ki-67) are established prognostic markers, which have traditionally been assessed separately in DLBCL. However, no studies have evaluated the prognostic value of the combination of BCL2 and Ki-67 index. Thus, the present study aimed to analyze the prognostic value of combination of these two markers. Immunohistochemical analysis was used to assess the expression of BCL2 and Ki-67 in 274 cases of DLBCL. The BCL2/Ki-67 index demonstrated a significant association with decreased overall and progression free survival of patients with DLBCL, particularly for the germinal center B-cell-like subtype of DLBCL. Following multivariate analysis, the BCL2/Ki-67 index retained prognostic significance. Patients with coexpression of BCL2 and Ki-67 constituted a unique group with poor survival, thus novel therapies targeting BCL2 protein and high proliferative activity may improve the outcome of these patients.

RESUMO

Knowledge of the distribution patterns of soil organic carbon (SOC) and factors that influence these patterns is crucial for understanding the carbon cycle. The objectives of this study were to determine the spatial distribution pattern of soil organic carbon density (SOCD) and the controlling factors in arid desert grasslands of northwest China. The above- and belowground biomass and SOCD in 260 soil profiles from 52 sites over 2.7×10(4) km2 were investigated. Combined with a satellite-based dataset of an enhanced vegetation index during 2011-2012 and climatic factors at different sites, the relationships between SOCD and biotic and abiotic factors were identified. The results indicated that the mean SOCD was 1.20 (SD:+/- 0.85), 1.73 (SD:+/- 1.20), and 2.69 (SD:+/- 1.91) kg m(-2) at soil depths of 0-30 cm, 0-50 cm, and 0-100 cm, respectively, which was smaller than other estimates in temperate grassland, steppe, and desert-grassland ecosystems. The spatial distribution of SOCD gradually decreased from the southeast to the northwest, corresponding to the precipitation gradient. SOCD increased significantly with vegetation biomass, annual precipitation, soil moisture, clay and silt content, and decreased with mean annual temperature and sand content. The correlation between BGB and SOCD was closer than the correlation between AGB and SOCD. Variables could together explain about 69.8%, 74.4%, and 78.9% of total variation in SOCD at 0-30 cm, 0-50 cm, and 0-100 cm, respectively. In addition, we found that mean annual temperature is more important than other abiotic factors in determining SOCD in arid desert grasslands in our study area. The information obtained in this study provides a basis for accurately estimating SOC stocks and assessing carbon (C) sequestration potential in the desert grasslands of northwest China.
